Found a new favorite! Imelda & her staff really helped me out with some last minute alterations. I was in a panic, was calling around trying to find someone, anyone who could hem my pants within 24hrs. I was desperate. I called at 9am on the dot, and explained my situation. Imelda said "no problem, I'm here all day. Bring your pants." I showed up at her place in downtown Napa (it's in a professional office building) and there were 2 other people there working away. The place is tiny, and they are very busy. I tried on the pants, they pinned them for me, talked to me about the right length I needed, and asked me what time I wanted to come back for them. When I returned for my pants the next day, they fit perfectly & the seams all matched. Best part? The price! They were extremely reasonable, and could have totally ripped me off, or worse. She does good alterations work but she takes a long time to get things done. I have had to leave items there for 3 weeks to get fairly simple alterations done. She takes too many silly emergencies of people who fail to plan ahead and insist things are done NOW and doesn't have enough help. I'm so happy I found her! I've recently lost a lot of weight but had spent a good deal of money on my wardrobe and love so many of my items I couldn't bear to part with them. I went to Imelda's after work and got to her place at 5:30pm. She sounded very inconvenienced and told me she didn't know how long my alterations would take because she had a lot of work to do. She said if I had more than 1 item, she would give me a better deal. I had 4 pairs of pants that needed hemmed and the waist taken in. She again stated she was very busy and she was about to close. I asked her if I should come back and she said no, but that I would be her last customer for the day. I went back a couple of weeks later to pick up my pants, and she charged me $112 dollars to alter 4 pairs of slacks! That's $28 for each pair! Then when I put the slacks on to go to work, the length was still too long and touching the floor. Now I have to get it altered again, but I'm definitely not going back to Imelda. read more

My husband and I have been to Imelda's twice now, and are gathering items to bring in for a third trip! The first time, we had only a week before a Vegas trip and my husband had bought a $90 pair of Lacoste swim trunks for $17. They were too big in the waist and she was able to completely take apart the back side and make them fit. For myself, I've had her take in the straps on a couple of dresses, and she did a great job. I bought a dress 5 days before my wedding that needed to be hemmed for my rehearsal dinner. They fit me in with no problem and no stress. Other alteration shops I chatted with gave me a hard time and made me feel guilty. I've heard great things about Imelda, but I had a different experience. I brought in my chef jackets because the hems were too long. She charged me $20 for each, she was very rude when I came in to pick them up (because she was oh so very swamped and I was taking up her time), AND she cut the sleeves even though I didn't ask her to! So now I have to work with too short sleeves, and the hem's still too long. Perhaps she's slipping? I see that someone else had a similar experience but it's under the "unrecommended" reviews which I find very interesting...In any event, I will NOT be returning to Imelda! read more

Imelda is amazing. I brought in a dissassembled leather dress, and asked if she could make a shirt out of it. I showed her an example of what I wanted. She not only made it work, she added precise detailing on the seams and zipper that were above and beyond my expecatations. She is very timely, and has excellent communication. She delivered the shirt 2 days before I needed it. She's very reasonably priced and has wonderful customer service! First time there. Walked in and wasn't greeted OR acknowledged by the lady who works/owns? this place, but actually by the customer she was with who turned around with a big smile and said hello. After the customer was finished and walked away, the lady still didn't look at me with any sort of acknowledgement. Walked up to the counter and asked about my the items I needed altered. The whole time this woman was cold and very unfriendly. My husband picked up my items for me when they were ready and without having known of my experience when dropping off....he said, man that place isn't friendly at all!!! I knew then that I wasn't wrong! I had super high hopes for this place given the other reviews but I'm afraid its a no go for me. i walked in the door and i told the lady that i had a long dress and wanted to cut it short so i go measure my dress and tell her up to where i want it, she puts the pins and im like ok thats good enough then i ask her "when will you have the dress ready" (in a nice voice) then she replies "no no no no dont tell me when can i have it ready because i am very very busy and your not the only customer that comes in i have other stuff to take care of first so dont you tell me when it will be ready" and i didnt even tell her when i wanted it i just asked how long it was going to take then i changed back to my clothes and she was talking to her coworker about me in spanish so so rude!!! will never go here again hope she gets fired. even her coworker looked shocked by the way she replied to me.... read more
