Heidi and Megan were lifesavers on my wedding day and my day would not have gone as perfectly if I didn't have their help. If you are considering them, book them! They perfectly steamed the thousands of layers of tulle on my wedding gown as well as all our robes and bridesmaids dresses. They also took care of last minute alterations - sewing a long line corset bra (which they had with them) into one of the bridesmaids dresses so it would be more supportive and stay up. They hemmed the mother of the brides dress. They also let out the straps on a dress that had been too tight. We first heard of The Wedding DeTailor through our wedding planner since we were having a Napa Valley destination wedding and are originally from Boston. I knew I would be flying with my dress and given the uniqueness of the material, that it would need to be professionally pressed/steamed before the big day. I spoke with Violet about different packages and ended up booking them for my dress and my husband's tuxedo since we were also flying with that. I also was going back and forth for months on what my "something blue" could be and Violet suggested a small monogram on the inside of my dress. It was perfect! We decided on a font and she sent me a sketch of it and we decided to do my new initials so I had my something new and my something blue! We flew into Napa on Monday and our wedding was on a Friday. The original plan was to drop off the dress and tux on Wednesday and pick up on Thursday afternoon. When we got to our hotel on Monday my sister and MOH had a little meltdown because her bridesmaid dress was altered terribly. I asked her to put it on for me and I agreed that it has been altered too tight and it bunched up in the front which made the dress look very unflattering even though my sister is tiny! I immediately called The Wedding DeTailor and Heidi said she would be able to squeeze us in on Tuesday to take a look at what was going on with my sister's dress. We showed up on Tuesday and Heidi worked her magic on my sister and started undoing (right in front of us) a lot of the stitching the former tailor had done! She is highly recommended and so we knew we were in good hands. As I went to show her my dress for the scheduled pressing and monogram I noticed that during the transport my dress had ripped and the front of it got all bunched. She had me put on the dress and she again started to work her magic and undoing all of the terrible work my Boston tailor had done. You would think as a bride, 3 days away from her wedding, and seeing someone completely undo previous alterations, that I would be a complete wreck - wrong! I was suddenly so calm and knew that she would do everything she could to make my dress look perfect. My sister and I came back on Thursday as planned to pick up both dresses and were blown away by the outcome. Both dresses (and the tux) were perfect! Heidi of SewHeidi Wedding De-Tailor is a complete lifesaver and a gem! I had a very disappointing experience with my wedding dress. The designer's production house made my dress incorrectly twice! I'm talking completely wrong fabric the first time, and then adding Crinoline between the liner to a dress that was meant to drape on the body; it was actually quite alarming. There wasn't enough time for them to make a third, so the end results were I was given the sample dress of the one I ordered at a discounted price, which was 2 sizes too big. The bridal salon, with only a week to turnaround alterations before I left for my wedding, had done an okay job, but I still had many concerns with the way my dress when I left (to tight here, too loose there, bunching around the waist, pulling of fabric). It was disappointing and stressful! Thankfully, I knew of Heidi and her good reputation as I was referred and had engaged her services for the day of the wedding. SO with a little hope, I called her up when I arrived to California (with only 4 days before my wedding!) to see if she had time to possibly fix my dress. I can't tell you how fortunate I was that she was available! She had me try on my dress, accessed the issues, said to come back in 1 hour, and presto... in a little under 2 hours of seeing her, I came back to try it on again and it fit like a glove! I felt so relieved, beautiful and COMFORTABLE in my dress for the first time! Heidi saved us numerous of times the day of the wedding as well. Some examples: The boys had forgotten cuff links... she made them some. My mom's wrap was too clunky... she fixed it... My father-in-laws shirt was too tight around the neck...she moved the button. My bridesmaid's bra straps were sticking out from her dress... she built in straps to hold them in place. This was in addition to the steaming and pressing of all of our bridal party's attire the she and Violet did, assisting at the shoots, and just being so great to me and my family! Violet was even so kind to bring me a glass of champagne after seeing how nervous I was after a few bridal portraits, before heading out to do our first look. Not only is she a true miracle worker, she and her daughter, Violet, have such beautiful and welcoming spirits; I felt instantly comfortable with both of them the instant I meet them. Okay I would have been an absolute nut job on my wedding day if it had not been for Heidi! She is so very talented and so much fun to be around and completely takes the stress out of pressing expensive dresses and tuxedos. Heidi came to our house and transported all of the dresses and tuxes to Beaulieu Garden and when we arrived she was ready to dress The Bride, my daughter. It was wonderful to just watch and not have to tie bows and adjust the train....Heidi also makes beautiful pocket scarves...she is incredibly creative in making up individual monograms, but in our case she recreated the monogram my daughter and her now husband had designed. This review is LONG overdue. Last September I received my wedding dress in the mail that I had purchased from a beautiful boutique in New York City. I was so excited to have finally received my dress and to try it on! Unfortunately when I did, I was less than impressed and did not feel beautiful at all. I was swimming in it. I thought, this must just be what it's like; you go to a wedding dress boutique, pick out your dress, and they order you a size larger than you really are so that the tailor can fit it to you. Well, it's not, and I learned that from Heidi Johnson. Heidi and the Wedding DeTailor was recommended to me through a dear friend of mine. When I had my initial fitting with her she told me that my dress was so extremely large that she would have to take the entire dress apart in order to make it fit. As it turns out, this commonly happens when brides go to get their wedding dress. The Sales Associate will recommend a size larger than what's appropriate, and it ends up costing the bride so much money in tailoring fees. Instead of settling to take a part my dress, she made a phone call to the boutique with my measurements, which had not changed since I had initially purchased my dress, and proved that I should have received the size smaller. She told them that this would have saved me on tailoring fees. We ended up on a Skype conference with the designer (in New Zealand!). Eventually, I was sent the correct size, and only a bit of tailoring was needed. Heidi Johnson is not only a fantastic tailor, but she is an amazing consultant for wedding dress shopping. Heidi and Violet are the best!! After being turned away from three other places due to it being so last minute, I stumbled upon Heidi, and thought I'd give her a call. When I first called her, she informed me that she only did alterations on wedding dresses, not bridesmaids dresses and proceeded to recommend another place. It just so happened that I was in the exact parking lot of the place she suggested. I let her know they had turned me away and she said "come on over". Heidi said that my dress looked and fit beautifully, and did not recommend any major alterations.However, she suggested the side slit needed to be evened out just a bit and to give her 30 minutes to fix it. Since my wedding was in Napa, I thought it would be best to have my alterations done in Napa, but I didn't realize what a treat I was about to get! Heidi altered both my dress and my mother's dress. My dress was too big from the start (the dress shop recommended the wrong size), and I was one of those crazy brides who lost as much weight as I could, but Heidi made the dress look like it was made for me. We had Heidi do the alterations on our dresses as well as attend the wedding (I'm the mother of the bride). Heidi was wonderful through the whole process. My daughter's train was asymmetrical, but Heidi did a fabulous job of bustling the dress. My daughter lost 10 lbs, and it changed the way the dress fit, but Heidi did a great job of making her dress look like it was made for her.
