Taste: I heard her mention the name "Chris" when some customers excitedly ask about the name of the cook. Well! Chris deserved the recognition especially that day because everything was so good. Often times, Memphis BBQ spots have similar models but not this one. It has a pleasantly unique taste. Also, I found out that they make their own bbq sauces in house. My family tried the BBQ Spaghetti, brisket, beans, & corn nuggets. They were all on point! Cost: 9/10 Typical for a BBQ spot Ambience: 10/10 The atmosphere made you feel like family. We frequently order take out from Ty's on Friday's at work. I always get the chicken tender lunch special (4 tenders, fries, and a drink for $7.99). Not a fancy restaurant by any means but the food is solid! The tenders are hand breaded and soooo good! Always fresh and by far the best tenders I have ever eaten. The fries are just so so. If they would step up their fry game and offer hand cut fries, they would have lines of people out the door! Good food, service, and price point! read more

Today 8/15/25 was the worst experience I've had at TY's. My wife and I went for lunch and was disappointed with both our meals. She had the 1/2 spaghetti and it was served with very little sauce and a lot of noodles. It wasn't acceptable as a meal. I had the two piece catfish platter and it was questionable if it was actually catfish. The filet's were at least an inch thick with an awful seasoned coating. The texture wasn't that of catfish at all. It was flaky, unlike real catfish. I asked one of the servers where it came from and she claimed not to know. I'm personally convinced that it was Sway or some other imported fish they're passing off as catfish. Just be aware if you order this, whatever it is. read more

I've been wanting to try Ty's BBQ for the longest time, and I'm so glad I finally did! I ordered to-go because I was craving some BBQ nachos, and they were phenomenal. I have been waiting to try this place since August. I finally visit Ty's Smokehouse on November 10th, 2023. The first thing I noticed was the good BBQ smell. I also noticed how clean the restaurant was. I also know it was going to be a good visit with the trophy display. I decided to get the Smokehouse Burger with pulled pork. I also got fries. Stopped in here on our way out of town and grabbed some to-go. I ordered a 2 meat meal with a 1/2 slab of ribs. Everything was pretty good but the cashier who took our order was so over being there. I felt like she was annoyed to take my order and her patronizing way of talking to me was beyond rude. I come to Tennessee every year to see my cousins and had planned on hiring this place to cater next year. Definitely not now. If the food is good it but service is rude, we don't return. I think this place could be incredible but the people there need to find their passion again or they'll find themselves out of business. I have become somewhat of a regular here. I've had everything from the Smokehouse burger to rib tips. The smokehouse Cuban is so huge. The Iowa tenderloin, the bbq salad, the and the chicken sandwich. I love the hamburger steak, but that fried chicken was out of this world. They appear to have added a new selection for lunch and dinner. The Hungry Man Special. It's a meat of the day, Texas toast, mashed taters and gravy, a side and a drink. All for $8.99! It was hamburger steak day Wednesday and it was excellent. I had Mac & Cheese as my additional side. It was made with velveta but had an additional cheese in it as well. I liked it. The plate suited it's name well. It was a good sized portion for sure. I probably would have chosen the mashed taters and gravy anyway, but my only criticism is that they should allow the choice of two sides instead of choosing that one for the customer. 11/16/17. Recently visited Ty's smokehouse for the first time. Staff member was friendly & patient with all the questions we had during our visit. The food was just alright. The BBQ was okay, it just wasn't very hot. The mac & cheese was bland, cold, and greasy. However, the fried okra I ordered was piping hot & very yummy. My quest ordered a bbq salad - the salad consisted of lettuce & meat. I feel like with a little more effort that this place could really rise to the challenge. We had happened upon Ty's quite some time ago and and had been more than satisfied with the service and the food. I was especially happy to find what I always called a breaded tenderloin, their I believe Iowa tenderloin. They are currently the only place in the greater Memphis area that still offers this sandwich. A few months ago we stopped and got a takeout order of tenderloin sandwiches. Upon returning home we discovered that neither of our sandwiches had been dressed as requested. I called and mentioned this to the day who answered the phone and she apologized and offered to fix it if I would bring it back. Having already gotten home and sat down for dinner I wasn't interested in that so she offered me $5 off our next order. Tonight was the first time I'd been back since and I didn't even mention the the $5 off offer I'd got last time as I didn't figure the staff who were there tonight would know anything about it. After the customer in front of me had placed her order and stepped aside I advanced to the counter. Anna, the girl behind the counter, looked tired and was not exactly welcoming. We placed our order and inquired about one of the listed desserts. She seemed confused and the somewhat annoyed and walked over the the cooler and said no we don't have any of that left. The lady who'd ordered before me suggested an alternate and they did have that one and I requested it instead. We've all been a bit stressed lately so I initially didn't think much of it. I struck up a conversation with the lady who had suggested the alternate and we chatted about some of the food we'd had there. Another lady came in and was standing and waiting for someone to welcome her and ask her to step up and place her order. Anna comes out of the back and answers the phone without acknowledging the lady who had just come in. All of a sudden Anna snaps, "That was me" to whomever she was talking to, lays down the phone and spins and goes into the back. I looked at the lady who had just come in and she rolled her eyes. Anna only came out and took another call in order and disappeared in to the back again. By this time another customer had entered and was waiting behind the lady who was waiting to have have order taken, or to be acknowledged by someone who worked there or something... After few more minutes she let out an exasperated sigh turned and walked out. When Anna came back out front he placed his order. At some point there were a couple others that came to pick up a take out order. They got their orders and finally we got ours delivered to the table without the waters we'd asked for nor the dessert we'd ordered. I'd not been directed to get our waters myself and I had not as some places had told me that we couldn't use the drink machine out in the restaurant. After Anna left our table and didn't bring waters and after it was clear that she wasn't bring any I got up and got them myself. After checking the receipt and seeing that we had indeed been charged for the dessert I got up and asked for it. There were a couple more customers that came in and placed to go orders and they both had to ask to get the drinks that were supposed to come with them. My Iowa tenderloin was substandard and my companion didn't even eat all of his chicken. He said he didn't like it. Not a positive experience. It will probably more than a few months before I return to Ty's if ever. read more

The newly designed interior is well executed, even though the soulless strip center location is a hard obstacle to overcome IMO. Furnishings are new of course, and the atmosphere is a little better than most of these shopping center eateries. The smoky flavor of the meat is true to the name of this place and I highly recommend it. Even though I usually order the pulled pork, I have been trying to eat less pork so I reluctantly ordered the brisket. I was very surprised to find it was easily the best brisket I have ever eaten, rivaling many pulled pork efforts for rich smokiness. Sandwich had plenty of meat too. Although everything tasted good together, the slaw by itself, was not inspiring to me, though everyone seems to rave about it. Onion rings were good, but they seemed to be nothing unusual...probably a good frozen variety. I wish every restauranteur would make almost everything they serve, but not everybody can be Elwood's Shack... so we celebrate the good where we find it and the brisket here at Ty's is the best! Sauces: Tried them all. The hot is not hot, the regular is sweet as pancake syrup. The smoky was their best by far, but none can compare with Central's. The meat however was truly exceptional and elevated what would have been a barely three star experience. Yes, the brisket was that good. read more

Giving this place a shot for lunch at 12:45 on a Monday since I work on the area. Clean and well laid out. Friendly staff. An assortment of MIM and similar trophies are promising. Right off the bat we hit a wall as I'm informed by Ty that they won't have any ribs for 30-45 more minutes. The place doesn't seem terribly busy so it's doubtful they sold out. Somewhat of an unforgivable sin not having ribs for lunch rush. I opt for the brisket/shoulder combo with beans and slaw. The generous portion of Shoulder is chopped instead of pulled and somewhat fatty. They've got a good bit too heavy on the sauce. Nice bark chunks and a above average smoke flavor. Id give it a 3.5. The brisket is dark... Cooked to medium well perhaps? Nice spice on the rub and nice thick slices, but it's just too tough. Can't cut with the plastic fork they provide. It too arrived with a puddle of sauce on it. 2.5 here. Beans are basic beans with a little pork in there. a little mushy but not bad. The slaw is very wet with a very creamy sauce. Not my favorite style, but for this type it's not bad. To test the sauces I had trouble finding meat that wasn't heavily pre-sauced, but I did my best. Spicy has a nice vinegar bite with a touch of background heat. The bold is a bit thinner and has a good smokey vinegar taste to it. Both are solid but unspectacular. With the lack of ribs, overcooked brisket, fatty shoulder and oversauced meat across the board I've got to give them a 3 for this trip. May come back again and give them another shot. read more
