I was moving from Renton, WA to Chicago, IL, a trip that is over 2000 miles. This trip should have…read moretaken three days. The Penske office in Tukwila, WA sent us out on the 2000 mile road trip with a trailer we towed by a 16 foot truck. My husband's car was on the trailer. Two of the tires were bald. My husband called out one of the bald tires prior to leaving the Tukwila location with the truck and the trailer. The shop told him the trailer was 'fine' for a 2000 trip. As my husband drove he became more and more nervous as he checked the tire at each gas stop and the tire was getting worse and worse. He stopped in Wyoming and decided he was not brave enough to chance it any longer. He called Penske, who directed him to roadside assistance. After 4 hours roadside assistance came and came with the wrong size tire for the trailer (info given to them by Penske). He also told my husband that not one but two tires were bald. The roadside assistance driver had to drive back 70 miles from where he came and get two new tires and drive 70 miles back to replace the bald tires. This process delayed us one full overnight. My husband was in Wyoming and I was in my car in South Dakota. I had to wait in SD for him to catch up to me. When I called Penske in Tukwila they did not care that they sent my husband out on a 2000 mile road trip with two bald tires nor did they care that he could have had a serious accident and could have been seriously injured. I emailed the main Penske office who did call me and told me they would pay for the extra night's motel stay and another $300.00 for my 'trouble". I got the motel fee and they seem to have reneged on the $300.00. As far as I am concerned they should have refunded the entire fee of $3200.00 for potentially sending my husband to his death. I will never use Penske again and I urge you to boycott them as well. They do not care about your safety!!!! I promise you they do not and to top it off they are liars and cheats when they promise refunds and then do not issue them.

I was…read moreincorrectly charged for refueling, and even when I provided documentation that the truck was returned refueled, they still refused to fully correct the bill. I was quoted an estimated total of $43.07 for a local truck rental, but after returning the truck I was charged $93.34. The charge included 24 miles and 2 gallons of gas, despite only driving 22 miles and returning the truck fueled above the full marker. When I presented my drop-off photos and fuel transaction, instead of simply correcting the bill, they offered a partial correction. They refused to remove the 2-gallon fuel charge and acted like they were doing me a favor only partially overcharging me. If you rent here document everything and do not assume that they will correct the bill willingly.

Handy Andy gets bonus points for being able to accommodate me without an advance reservation. They also got us checked out quickly and charged the same rental fee as the other "big boys." The subtraction point is because the truck was an absolute junker. There was a hole in the driver's seat so big I could put my whole arm through it all the way to the floor. The truck cab was filthy. The cargo area floor was ripping up and there was no ramp. The truck was making a horrible noise - as if a belt was about to go. It felt like the suspension and shocks were totally shot. We had to be extra careful about using enough furniture padding and tie-downs. The place itself is an absolute dump. A literal junkyard. We left there wondering about the company's worker's comp history. There are tools hanging hap-hazardly all over the walls, multiple story shelves and an enormous crazy-hot totally open space heater that would have caught my pants on fire if I had been unfortunate enough to back into it while in line. The guys were nice enough and I did get a last-minute truck. But yeesh - what a rundown dump.
