I made a reservation for a U-Haul truck specifically with the West Athens location in Athens, Georgia. One day before pick up I was informed that I now had to use a UHaul neighborhood dealer on Lexington Avenue named Oglesby Automotive. When I arrived, I found that the business was closed and I had to use the mobile app in order to check in and pick up the key. But of course There was no key Weir in the lock box. So I had to access Uhaul customer service then spent 20 minutes, confirming that the dealer had not put the key in the lock box to which I was being directed, but instead, I put it in the drop off box for people returning trucks. Of course I had no Lock code access to get into that. So we spent another 20 minutes trying to track down the code so that I could then open the dropbox pull out all of the keys in there to find the one for the truck which I had rented. On top of all of that the customer service rep told me I was gonna get a $50 credit and of course when I received my bill this morning I had no $50 credit and had to go back through you all customer service in order to get that secured. Terrible experience with Uhaul and specifically with this Neighborhood dealer in an awful part of town for which I never would've signed up for but I know Uhaul reassigned it over there because I was a one-way trip and they didn't want to give up any trucks from their larger dealers. read more

TERRIBLE. Would give 0 stars if possible. Use U-Haul only if you're prepared to have your confirmed reservation disregarded, be sent on a wild goose chase to locations within a 45 mile radius, have your trip delayed 7+ hours, and receive the rudest possible interactions throughout. Booked a month ahead, specifically for pickup at 2900 Atlanta Hwy. There is a pop up warning that you may have to pick up at a different location in the vicinity. OK, Athens area has dozens of locations. Day before, I get a call to pick up 40 miles away. Morning of pick up, new location calls saying they have no trucks available. I go to Atlanta Hwy for help & receive insanely rude treatment (eye rolling, told they have no obligation). Finally locate a gas guzzler of a truck 2x the size I need, 45 miles away. Uber to get it & the 1st truck has brake problems, the 2nd truck has "check engine" light on. Let me also note that every U-HAUL location I passed had many trucks on site. And that I encountered multiple customers also experiencing the same saga of events & treatment. read more

We have used this facility for a storage unit and for rental of a cargo van on several occasions. handled a very awkward situation with aplomb and grace and put everyone at ease. Looking back, I still don't know quite how he did it. He maintained his dignity and managed a difficult and very public situation in a way that should be taught in business management classes. I don't know where to begin, with the amount of anger and disrespect that I now have for Uhaul and this specific location! I spent over $4000.00 total on my cross country move to GA, done in 2 moves. As a result, I had 2 free months of storage...from the truck rentals etc... When my niece, who goes to UGA, was going to need a storage unit for less than a month...I decided to give her my free unit time. We called and verified that I could give her my unit time and verified an actual unit. We got the name of the person at this Uhaul location, that took down all of our information and everything. Then 2 days before her scheduled move, she calls Uhaul to verify everything. They told her that because it was a free unit, that they sold it out from under us...to someone else that was actually paying money! They didn't bother to call her. She had to call them! Please tell me HOW this happens??? Does Uhaul have this much unprofessionalism and disregard for customers? I will be calling corporate and demanding that they look in to this! These people that they hire, that make promises to customers, should be FIRED! I have always preferred Uhaul for my moving experiences. However, after this experience, I have changed my opinion. If I had the option to give 0 stars, I would. We waited in line for 45 minutes for our reserved truck and were told they rented it out at 11:15. Our reservation time was 11:00. We called customer service and they said the location should have 2 trucks available in the size we need. The staff told us they did not know where the keys were for either truck. This was all after the manager Dawn yelled at my husband over the phone and then refused to speak to us when she returned to the store. The customers behind us also had a reservation and were told they did not have their truck available either. Horrible service. Horrible attitude from the manager. So, I purchased a hitch online for in-store installation on May 25th. The store called back but I missed the call. I then called the store and my reservation was confirmed for 7am on the 25th. So, I get up early in the morning and drive the roughly 25 miles from my house to Athens to discover that the store isn't even open until 9pm. I call the number for the store, and it is answered by a sleepy sounding individual who essentially treats me as if I'm a liar. After informing me over and over that they don't open until 9am so my reservation is impossible, he agrees to look up my order number. He says I'm scheduled for 11:30am on May 26th. Well, I'll be out of town that day and at NO point was I ever given this information by the store. I don't know whether to assume incompetence or carelessness, but I just wasted 50 miles worth of gas for nothing. read more

I have a mixed review. The first part is regarding the actual UHaul moving experience and the second part deals with their storage facility. I used this location 3 times total. Two in-town moves and one out of state move. Each time, as long as I booked in advance, everything went smoothly. The staff is accommodating and they had all the supplies I needed - 5 stars, hands down. Sadly, I used their storage facility for about a year. I paid extra for an indoor unit and didn't buy insurance (stupid me). Then again, storage units aren't cheap. When you're spending $100 a month for a tiny room, insurance seems absurd. Anyway, I had an indoor unit. When we came back to move things out of it, we found that the ceilings leaked. Everything was soaked and generally ruined. Well, it was usable still, but not visually appealing. I thought that was pretty cheap. Of course, they aren't liable for keeping their facilities maintained. Just a heads up if you plan on renting a storage locker. read more

Save yourself the trouble folx. This location shipped my UBox to Portland, OR without my permission and did not notify me that my belongings were across the country. The only reason I found out was because the other customer in Oregon was thoughtful enough to snap a picture of my belongings with my contact info and touch base with me about what was happening. Corporate and regional UHaul have been SILENT about my belongings, despite my calls and email about my UBox's location and condition. The company has, at this point, still not acknowledged that my UBox was not where I left it or that they transported it across the country without informing me of their error. Their silence is deception and multiple employees' efforts to remain silent indicates the company's poor practices around communication and action are far pervasive and entrenched. I will not be trusting UHaul with any storage or relocation needs in the future, as this incident has me disgusted and unable to trust the brand, locally or nationally. read more

I made a reservation and paid online two weeks in advance to have a hitch installed on my car. This morning I arrived at U-Haul and was told that the person installing my hitch didn't know I had scheduled anything today and wasn't even going to be in the building. After looking in the computer they found my reservation & asked me to reschedule to another day; I am moving out of Athens at the end of the week and stated that I needed it done today. After trying several times to get me to reschedule the man at the desk told me they would get the guy to come in and install it today and call me when it's done. I left my car there and about five hours later, they called me to tell me that they ordered the wrong part for my car and couldn't install my hitch today after all and that they needed me to reschedule. I'm fairly certain they never even ordered the part to begin with if they didn't even realize I was coming in today. The manager wasn't on duty today but the store team stated they would give me a full refund if I called the manager tomorrow. The store clerks were apologetic and I'm sure it's not their fault, but overall this was a completely unprofessional experience and I will not be going back nor would I recommend this place to anyone. read more

I would rather haul my entire house in my kid's toy wagon than rent from this U-Haul again. They overcharged us by $600, blatantly lied to our faces about the charges, and were completely unhelpful when we tried to resolve the issue. We moved 3 miles in the same town, and paid $700 for one day. They are essentially con artists. More details: We moved two weeks ago and rented a U-Haul truck. The store in Watkinsville/Bishop, GA (20 minutes from us) was the only location that had the size we needed, so we drove there to pick it up. The employee said that we could just drop it off at the location on Atlanta Hwy. (which was less than a mile from our house) instead of driving it back, and that we wouldn't get a fee. We dropped it off after we moved, and the manager checked it, said everything looked good, checked the gas-tank (which we had re-filled and have a receipt from), but then said that he could not give us a receipt because the computer system turned off at 7 PM. (Another employee later told us that this was not true.) The next day we check our bank account, and instead of approximately $100, which is what we were quoted, they charged us $695. $695 to move 3 miles down the street. We would have happily returned the truck to it's original location, if the original employee had not told us that it would be no problem. A "one-way" truck fee is double the fee (so charging us for not driving it 20 minutes back to Bishop even though we were told we didn't have to), and they are charging us $80 for not re-filling the tank even though we have a receipt and 3 witnesses to us re-filling the tank, and only drove it 30 miles TOTAL. My husband has visited the U-Haul store multiple times, talked to the district manager and the corporate office, and we are now consulting with our lawyer and submitting a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General. I really hope that this was one bad apple, and not the way all of U-Haul does business. I have several friends who have cancelled their reservations this very week though, just to be safe. Don't believe what people say, is evidently the moral of our U-Haul experience. read more

After spending hours trying to buy boxes on a few occasions previously, I knew that my most recent trip to uhaul, which was to install new wiring and a new trailer hitch, would be time consuming. What I didn't realize was that I would spend two and a half hours sitting in a uhaul store waiting for not one, not two, but three employees try to fix the wiring in my car. This came after my initially being told that there was nothing wrong with the hitch or wiring my car already had and then being told an hour later that my wiring hook up was completely corroded. They didn't charge me for the extra time, which was thoughtful, but this was still an insane amount of time to spend waiting for something that I paid for and had assessed a week ago! Ugh! read more
