I had a scheduled appointment and arrived 20 minutes early. After waiting an hour and 20 minutes, my vehicle had not even been brought into the garage for the hitch installation. During that entire time, there was only one employee working, and they were still on the same vehicle they had been working on when I arrived. I asked if I would be notified when my vehicle was ready, and was told I would receive a text. An hour and 20 minutes later, I had not received any communication--only to realize work on my vehicle had not even begun. Had I known this, I would have rescheduled and returned later. Due to the lack of communication and poor time management, I canceled the appointment. Overall, the customer service was disappointing and not well-managed. Very disappointing experience. I originally asked to rent a 10' truck, but the representative convinced me to take a van instead, claiming I'd only pay $0.49 per mile for the first 100 miles, which would save money. I agreed based on that info. When I got the contract, the total was $89, even though it should've been $69 ($49 for mileage + $20 for the van). I questioned it right away, and the rep admitted I was right but said he couldn't fix it now and would handle it with his manager later. In the end, I was charged $194 for two days and 170 miles -- far more than what was discussed. When I returned the van and explained the situation to the site manager, he was rude, impatient, and completely unwilling to listen or acknowledge the mistake. He seemed more interested in shutting down the conversation than resolving the issue. I felt misled, overcharged, and disrespected. I expected more transparency and basic professionalism from U-Haul. Don't rent from this uhaul location, they are terrible. Rented a truck for an 8am pickup and got confirmation emails etc for 8am mobile pickup as part of the 24/7 mobile pick up option. Arrived a few minutes before 8am ready to get the truck i rented. When I arrived and went through the mobile check in the screen tells me I have to wait for hand delivery when the store opens. I called and spoke to customer service (a process that took half an hour to even get to a person), they told us that likely someone forgot to put the key in truck so we're just out of luck and have to wait for them to open. I am so frustrated, I have someone waiting on me to arrive to pick up the item that requires the truck in the first place, feel duped that my reservation told me and confirmed 8am, annoyed that I've been sitting here waiting for an hour and can't get the truck and am just out of luck because this location didn't put the keys in the car. I've been renting from uhaul for years without issue, I cannot recommend this location and would urge everyone to use just about any other uhaul location besides this one. This one sucks. read more

Be very careful when renting from his location using mobile pickup. It took about an hour to complete the check in, verification, taking photos, etc. Extremely complicated process despite me already completed the pre-check in online the day before pickup. The truck is parked on the curb (not close to the Postal Annex) next to a busy and fast street. Asking people to take pictures of the driver side is a terrible idea. A majority of the wasted time was spent on the terrible U-Haul website that doesn't work properly, then downloading their bad app that's unintuitive and slow. Overall, it was a huge pain doing the "easy" mobile pickup. The truck itself was fine except the "tow" light never turned off. I tried turning off the towing mode many times but it didn't work. I'm old and remember what driving a moving truck was like 30 years ago. It's still the same. Is that a good thing? A bad thing? I stopped here to get a hitch installed. I believe the gentleman that installed the hitch is named Angel. He also was the person who greeted me and checked me in. Prior to meeting Angel, I was around the corner at this location and headed up to some random sliding door that was for uhaul but perhaps a different department. Some kind guy pointed me in the right direction! Thank you! Angel did an amazing job on the install. I had made an appointment and was in and out on time. It also is functional! I used the hitch immediately afterwards and it worked well with my bike rack (primary purpose of hitch). Calling and making an appointment is easy, but know what you need. I told the gal I needed the hitch for a bike rack and I was still going to originally be charged for a hitch that was used for towing--my Prius is not towing anything! Haha, plus that is $100 more. The gal that called me to set up my appointment thankfully confirmed the details and I told her I was only using this for a bike rack and she took off all the extra stuff for towing and it went down in price. Rented a 10-footer for 3 days drove it 11 miles. Filled it to where it was before taking the truck. Checked the level at the return location of the lot. It was right at 1/4, where it was supposed to be. Get my receipt a couple hours later with the gas gauge drawn half way between 1/4 and 1/8 and I'm charged almost $70 for a fuel service fee and 2 gallons of gas. What a scam! read more

I show up at the U-Haul location only to be told that they don't install hitches on Saturdays. I showed them the e-mail with the reservation number. After spending a lot of time staring at their computer all they could say was that the reservation should have been cancelled. No apology, no offer to try to address, nothing. Lame. Rented a truck that was ok - check engine light was on and the truck was pretty old, but I got the keys somewhat quickly. They don't charge your card until you return the truck. At which point I noticed they had charged me for insurance which I had failed to notice on the paperwork. When I complained two separate employees told me the transaction was final and there was nothing to be done. If you do rent from U Haul, check your paperwork very carefully before you leave, they might not charge your card until you return but the charges are fixed. My fiancé and I have rented from U-Haul a handful of times in the past with no issues. Our latest rental experience, the employee gave us our keys and told us to do a walk around inspection of the vehicle ourselves. I took photos throughout on my phone as proof but, I do prefer protocol which is when the employee walks around the vehicle with us, right? Then, we weren't familiar with the particular vehicle model so we wanted to ask some questions and then that's when the employee finally came out to assist us with our questions. Upon returning, we had no issues though. Minus 1 star, because I felt like someone should do a walk around inspection with us and show the basic overview of the vehicle or at least ask if we have any questions. On moving day two hours before truck pickup, U-Haul Miramar texted, directing us to pickup in Escondido instead of Miramar, as reserved. (33 miles one way from Pacific Beach to Escondido, with Saturday traffic, on moving day.) After calling three times, on prolonged hold, then disconnected, we reached the "reservations manager." He was a comedian of sorts. For example, when we asked where he was located, he said he was driving. When first asked if there were other vehicles available, he played a little game, faulting our failure to say that we would consider something other than a 10'. When asked again if there were larger/smaller trucks available he said yes, of course, in Escondido. He "couldn't be responsible for another customer returning late" and U-Haul Miramar apparently does not anticipate that circumstance. He was unable to check availability at the nearby Copley Drive location, as "he doesn't cover that area." He did give us $50 as per U Haul policy when they fail a reservation, but $50 is not what we needed that day. Out of decency, I will not name him here, but I hope someone who oversees these operations will take note or that calls are actually monitored for quality of service. First time renting a vehicle from U-Haul. My overall experience went by really well. We came in wanting to rent a van, but they had run out, so we opted for the next one up, which was the same base cost ($20), but just a little more expensive for gas. We were helped at the front by an extremely nice and helpful lady who walked us through the entire process, from when to return the car, how long we could have it, how the gasing up process works, how to check the vehicle for damage prior to renting, etc. It was extremely straight-forward, and we had no problems at all. The return process was also very simple, no problems at all. They took care of the return inspection very quickly, told me the overall price (we paid more up front for the mileage we thought we would use, and ended up using less = refund! :D), and I was in and out in less than 5 minutes! Would definitely rent again when I need to move large items. NOTE: They take reservations, so you can claim the moving van of your size preference in advanced. read more

I'm new to the military lifestyle being married to soldier, I expect to visit a u-haul fairly often. This location is the first one I've done business with for our storage needs. They offer military discounts and because we rented a trailer prior to renting their storage, we were given the first month free on top of the military discount! The lady who helped us at the counter was so kind and welcoming...she even had jokes to compliment our day! It was a day in the hottest weather of the week that my husband and I moved furniture from one county to another along with the long ride, I must say that the experience at the u-haul made the miserably hot day so much tolerable!! There is a loading dock where you can park and unload or load items to/from your rented storage. The second floor units are cooled, elevator is easily accessible, loading dock is fully secured requiring you to slide an access card after checking in, cameras at every angle, carts of different sizes available to help transport your belongings from loading dock to storage bin. I get a call THE DAY BEFORE MY MOVE that the closest UHaul location that has the equipment I need to tow my car is in a city TWO HOURS AWAY. This is in less than 24 hours of me needing to take an 8 hour drive up north. I didn't have the time or even a person to drive me to this city with all the packing I had to do. Both the customer service at this local location and their main line was useless. To me, this company's reputation has been thoroughly ruined. Completely unprofessional and literally made me livid with anger and anxiety. This is the WORST UHAUL in all of San Diego. We came here to pick up a truck for our move to Arizona. The girl working the front office was nice but the guy working the lot was TERRIBLE. We needed a car hauler to attach to the back of the truck so we could bring our car with us during our move. First of all the guy was standing on the lot smoking a cigarette and clearly didn't want to be bothered with attaching any car hauler to any truck. But then somehow we get the hauler attached and get our car on it. Fast forward when we arrive at our new home, we head over to the local U-Haul shop and the guy starts unhooking our car from the hauler. When we back the car off the hauler, THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE CAR GETS RIPPED APART. The idiot that attached it didn't hook up our car to the hauler correctly and we paid the price and UHAUL placed all the blame on us. If you need to use a hauler for your move make sure it's not that idiot that wears a wallet chain. I need to also leave a review for the U-Haul place that unhooked our car from the hauler since they should've seen that it wasn't hooked correctly before allowing us to back our car off of it. read more

I have been using U-haul for years for my business and these last couple times I have made a reservation for the miramar location it always gets changed to another location that is way out of my way to pick up and with gas prices so high its a huge inconvenience. What's the point of making a reservation if its not what I was promised. When I called the corp office to ask for an explanation she was less then helpful and basically told me its a gamble when you make a reservation your not guaranteed what you want that's not customer service at all. The Miramar location then tells me I have to go to Poway to pick up the trailer because Miramar didn't have what I needed, I then proceed to call Poway and demand they get a trailer over to the Mira mar location and she said I cant do that and that I will have to go to Poway. We get off the phone and then Miramar calls me and says that they have a trailer. Why did I have to go through so many hoops of one person saying they don't have what I needed and then calls me and says they do, I spend forever on the phone waisted time, this company doesn't communicate with each other and or else I wouldn't have been bounced around so many times. They installed a trailer hitch and wiring for my SUV today. Did a great job, very professional. I purchased the parts and paid for it online and made my appt for a few days later. When I arrived this morning, the lady checking me in saved me $100 off the original amount paid because there was an upgrade on the wiring, but it was less money! They didn't have to pass along this savings, and they did. I would highly recommend using them for your hitch and wiring! Did a wonderful job. I encountered 4 different people there today during drop off and pick up and everyone was very nice and pleasant. I am sure they deal with a lot of rude people (moving can be very stressful), but yet, everyone was still nice. Good job, staff! read more
