I recently started renting a storage unit here at Public Storage! To be completely honest, I had spent a lot of time looking at reviews for Storage Units here in San Diego that were climate controlled and a lot of the recent reviews for this particular Public Storage are what ultimately led me to renting here - reading how great the new manager Matt was, was what helped sell me - you never know how it will be but Matt was super helpful, informative and quick to answer my questions. I did not move in right away and he even followed up to ensure all was well and provided me instructions on how to access my storage unit when I did decide to arrive - coming and going was easy and so far it has been a great experience - thank you Matt! read more

Matt is extremely professional, courteous, helpful and a genuinely nice person. I'm not sure when he arrived, but he is a head and shoulders above the previous female. I had my unit in the building for nearly 20 years and saw mgrs. come and go; Matt is by far the best on-site manager yet. The facility is spotless, and not even a hint of rodent traffic. When I combined the contents of my smaller unit (5x5) with my daughter's stuff in a 10x5, Matt checked me out, closed the account and issued me a refund for the prepayment I made for September--on the spot. The worst establishment do not recommend! All my personal property stolen! Purchased unit The sales associate discussed I had to purchase their insurance for the unit. I then received a text for my storage unit #, a unique code to enter the facility and its elevator. Later that night I dropped my personal belongings in the unit I payed for and locked the storage unit. I received a phone from an associate that worked there not even 24 hours stating they were making lock check rounds and noticed my unit was unlocked. That evening someone used my code to enter the building, used my code to access the elevator, and found my specific unit, cut the lock and remove all the contents in it. According to their partial surveillance footage. When I confronted the district manager he told me specifically that this happens but not here at this establishment. As he combed through the surveillance footage he told me I couldn't watch any footage because It was against policy. He informed me to contact the police. Which I did. As the police arrived they asked me what happened. I explained and he commented to me you are the third victim of this in the last two weeks here at this establishment. instantly raged reflecting what the district management told me prior. I then discovered that the insurance only cover 5k worth of personal belongings and is not required to provide any other services or responsibilities after that. Even the money that I spent on the unit is non refundable. This business has no reason to be preying on people when they are relying upon their services. Clearly I didn't give my code out, clearly I didn't let anyone in the facility, clearly the responsibility of this business is outright disgusting and dishonorable. Do not let your guard down this establishment are predators! read more

Mike is wonderful!! Huge help with move in. I had some other issues with another public storage down the street. He went above and beyond to help fix them even thought they are completely separate entities it seems. Been a customer for 10 years but had to move out this week. Wanted to thank Mike for all his help in making this final transition. Gave great advice and is quite knowledgeable in the move and shipping industry. On the other hand, I didn't like the fact that I found out, from other renters in the area, that I could get a similar-sized unit today, for half the price. Rent shot up considerably over the last 5 years. I started around $78/ month, back in 2014, to $163, right before I vacated the space. Glad I did it now before they raised it again. I understand why the rates would go up but not in a short time, especially when there are others in the area for half! Part of the reason for leaving really is the constant rate hikes. Service, environment and convenience-5 stars but lowered it to 3 for the rate hikes. read more

All of the Public Storage units are rated low because none of them give a crap about its customers!!! I have held a storage unit for over 10 yrs at the Miramar location after having to go through a divorce and down size my living space. I have made my payments every month like clock work and today when I went to pay my payment they had increased it $68!!!!! Without no notice!!!! And there is no way I can afford that increase!!! There response was "you need to make the payment today and you can have all month to move out because we don't prorate the month so if you move out early you don't get any money back. But you can't wait until you move out to pay and just pay for the days you are there either because they will put another lock on your unit!!! What business treats long term customers like this and stays in business!! Run from this place! Go anywhere but here! read more

I have used this climate controlled storage on and off for years - whenever I've needed it. And recently I needed it again. Clean, with available wheeled carts, secure and well controlled climate (air con or heating), so all my things will be good as new when I retrieve them again. The storage manager, Mike, is totally awesome - from the moment you reserve online (he gives you a personal "welcome" call) to questions and moving in, he is very helpful and knowledgeable about the various systems - like auto payments and access codes - and with good advice generally for the facility and moving. Super nice guy with awesome customer service! And he works super hard always walking around the facility and keeping everything ship-shape. No task will escape Mike's keen eye! read more

Every time I go to my storage unit Mike is making his rounds, checking locks, cleaning and professional. Not sure what his pay is but whatever it is he earns every penny. Give that man a raise! Can you be robbed not once but twice ? Yes you can in this storage . Security is zero and surveillance cameras are jokes . Homeless people are renting units and sleeping inside . First time the whole sliding mechanism was hanging loose and second time public storage's own lock was open . Police can't do anything , according to detective storage management refuse to go through hours of camera recording. Basically you are storing you stuff and paying the highest rent with no security. No one cares and refuse to help you . They barely check units . I'm waiting for insurance adjuster's approval to move my stuff since thieves are trying to cut my lock for the third time . I asked if the manager can at least change my lock but the answer was no . read more

When I arrived at the location, she was very friendly, professional and helpful, showed me the space I was renting and got me all signed up. Please beware. My sister's storage was broken in, thousands of dollars worth of stuff was stolen. "24 hour surveillance" and you have to have a code to enter elevators to get to your floor but there were no surveillance footages. Large items were taken. Washer, dryer, Craftmans tool chest & many more items. How can large items like that be stolen that easily? Inside job? Customer service was awful. My family had a house fire & had to have their stuff stored until they found another home. Do you understand how difficult it is to go through a house fire and then have your stuff stolen but they showed no sympathy. Lady at the desk was nonchalant & could careless. Had so many excuses when asked about surveillance footages. They also had insurance on their unit but it turned out to be useless. Things like this do happen but how they handled it was horrible. read more

This review is specifically towards the district manager David Khadija how unprofessional he is towards his customers. On 09/01/2020, i visited the store to rent a unit. I did not check any online prices at the time because this was all a sudden decision. Went in and rented a 8x10 unit for $109. Next day, checked their website, they offered a 10x12 unit for $110 dollars. Called the store and asked if they can switch my unit to the bigger unit. Employee at the store told me she would need district manager "David's" approval. Waited until 4:40 PM till i called the store again to ask if the request was approved. I called David and emailed him as I needed to get this finalized for moving my belongings to the unit. David called me back and told me he was in the meeting, which i understand but points out and said you called me 5 times and gives me an attitude. I explained the situation as this was urgent and he comes back saying "what do you want me to do". I told him I want this 10x12 unit for $110 dollars as they honor their online prices. Told me he can't honor the price so I head to the store. Told the same employee that helped me rent the unit and explained the situation again. Now David calls the store and The employee answers his call in front of me. She said that he will adjust the regular price of $134 dollars "in the back end". After finalizing the paper work again, She tells me now I have to pay around $55 dollars in October and I asked why because I already paid in full for September and October and she is unsure and will get more information after I go see the unit. I follow the employee to the unit and there is a huge AC Vent in the middle of the unit wall! Nowhere in their website mentioned about this unit having a AC Vent right against the middle back wall that goes up to the ceiling. Was annoyed already but it was 5 minutes before they closed so I left. Checked the online website again and now this time, they have a 10x10 unit for $104 dollars. Put in a reservation that night and I went i to the store again the next day 09/03/2020. Told employee that I can't have that AC Vent inside the unit. Explained my situation again and this time, I went to check out the 10x10 unit before finalizing anything. Once back into the store, he was able to waive the initiation fee after calling a different manager and now they are unable to honor the online price of $104 dollars for a 10x10. Doesn't explain why and I told him to check again and proceeds to tell me the previous person who helped me with the unit did not click a check box onto their system before transferring my unit. Now the 10x10 unit is being charged for $130. I called the manager who reached out to me this morning about the reservation that I had put for a 10x10 unit so they can honor the online price. Explained everything again and now David calls me immediately. This is exact words from his mouth. "What do you want me to do? You're being a difficult customer, I am not going to honor the online price". I told him about the AC Vent inside the unit how it was not advertised in their website. Proceeds to tell me the units are approximate measurement and will not state if THERE IS A AC VENT inside the unit. He now tells me, "Look, you're being a difficult customer and if you don't like the price, you should find a different storage". Who says things like that to the customer? Especially a DISTRICT MANAGER. Now that I'm furious, I told him to give me the POC for his upper manager. He brushes it off and said he doesn't have one and that he is responsible for San Diego Public Storage. I told him where in the sign document states that I cannot switch the unit and he completely ignores the question. Gave me two options. If i want the online price of $104 dollars, I cannot get a refund of $245 dollars that I already paid for September and October for the now 8x12 unit to get the 10x10 unit. Second option was I take the 10x10 unit with now $130 dollars. He doesn't say anything after that and later said "thanks". I ended up taking the 10x10 unit for $130 dollars and I got scammed from their website since I have movers moving things this week to the unit. Keep this in mind, I've been their exact location customer for now over 3 1/2 years with one of their biggest units. David, if you are the district manager, act like one and set examples to your employee. Don't raise your voice to YOUR customer and tell them that they are a difficult customer and should take their business elsewhere. That's just poor management. read more

I did their e-rental, which was easy to navigate. Once I paid, I was notified my keys would be inside my unit, and was texted my codes and location of my unit. Overall was very easy knowing I could do all without going into the office. Very satisfying. read more

Our unit was burglarized 24 HOURS after we signed the contract and placed our belongings inside. Someone used our "personalized" code to enter the property and they cleared out our storage unit 1 day after we moved our items there. I thought this property is under 24 hour surveillance? How was someone able to gain access to our code, cut the lock, enter the unit, and remove our items all without being seen? Clearly an inside job. When the cop showed up he told us that the same thing happened to another person just the week prior. Same EXACT scenario. But when we were called to the storage unit initially after being told the lock was missing, the staff looked befuddled and as if they were so surprised this robbery had happened. Smh. The manager on shift was very nice and helpful. But he's helpless and cannot do much. This "business" is nothing but a scam. The insurance is a joke. Do not store your things here or at any Public Storage!!! read more

The place always seemed clean and the people at the front desk were helpful when I moved in. I did not like having to enter a code for the elevator every time I needed to go upstairs (maybe put it inside the elevator to make it easier?). It's also unfortunate that they don't have a restroom. What made me want to move out though was that they had two 20% increases in a year. What will keep me from ever going back is that they do not give pro-rated returns on the rent you've paid. RODENT DAMAGE! Client from August 2016 through January 2018. We were originally happy with second story / climate controlled for our items - everything was professionally packed and moved into the unit. The units are not entirely sealed from the outside and, consequently, our items had RODENT DAMAGE when I unpacked them in our new house. I found two fist-sized holes chewed through a rug when I unrolled it as well as teeth marks and significant damage to a bookshelf/wine-rack. Unacceptable on any account especially given the high price-tag (over $200/month) for the unit. I cannot recommend this facility to friends/family and would recommend current tenants check up on their items. First of all let me say if I could give this facility a ZERO star rating, I would - no hesitation. The representative that was assisting me, Chris was very unhelpful. This company has no regard for customers or clients and all they are looking for is to capitalize on any money that they can collect from you in any way. Customer service is not a standard here, I needed him to work with me to resolve an outstanding bill for a unit that was vacant but mistakenly not left unlocked and would not budge on the price. I was willing to pay but wanted a little bit of a break and understanding from this company as a fellow business operator. $500 is an unfair amount to pay for a vacant unit. Instead, he claimed that they are sold out of those units and need to charge me to make up their money. I had someone secretly shop the storage location and said that they had plenty units vacant at this size. What a joke. I work with many different storage companies on a daily basis and needed this one in a flash so that is why I tried them out, BIG MISTAKE. I am beyond upset. All they seem to care about is finding ways to add fees and get to your pocketbook. Don't just avoid this Public Storage. Avoid them all. I was finally given the number of the Regional Manager yesterday from the store and when I called. It's now crystal clear, if it wasn't the first time, that taking as much of their renter's hard earned money whenever possible is much more of a priority than customer service or building relationship for longterm customer loyalty. They will not work with you. They want your money and they want as much of it as they can squeeze out of you. I feel cheated and lured in by their $1 move-in special; they are almost downright crooked. In my opinion, 3 strikes and they are out. If i could rate lower i would. Ive never been this disrespected and wrongfully treated by anyone especially at a place where i was paying 170 dollars for almost 7 years. I was given a weeks notice to leave by after being wrongfully accused of trash. I was called names and harassed by employees the last week i was there and even in front of my children which inturn sent me straight into a anxiety attack. Which yes as a vet, i have been diagnosed with anxiety as well as ptsd so i always had my service animal with me. And needed him there just for me to be at ease going to and from my car up to my unit because it didn't feel safe with the people who actually live and hide inside their units. All which the employees are well aware of and made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Then to make it better they interfered with me packing up my things by locking me out multiple times and putting a block on my code to get into my unit. I'm horrified by the amount of disrespect and how unprofessional these employees were based off of being accused with no proof. Do not go here! read more

Storage is nice, prices are not that bad. But the parking is a joke. If your bringing a moving truck hire some strong people because if the truck blocks the way of both ways (not just leaving room so they can go around) or more then on spot they make you move your truck down to the "side" parking.(Which I get but it's an inconvenience you had heavy furniture) Which then if all the spots are full you have to carry your have furniture to the one handicap opening.
