Be careful about after hours return! Was under the impression I could return truck here after hours. The area was completely blocked off by other trucks and inaccessible. After an hour of waiting on the phone with U-Haul support, was unable to contact anyone from this location. Customer support asked me to jump a fence to return my U-Haul keys since the main after hours return entrance was blocked off. The Van I rented was NOT AT THE LOCATION that I had arranged (THE RENTAL PLACE in Sebastopol). I had to drive across town to secure a Van at FIVE STAR TIRES in Santa Rosa. The guy helping me told me that I could return the Van to the original location that I had hoped to rent it from in the first place. (Five minutes from my house) On the late afternoon that I returned the Van (to The Rental Place) I was told that this WAS NOT POSSIBLE, and I had to return it to FIVE STAR TIRES. This was truly impossible for me at that time. THIS COST ME $314.00. I TOOK THIS CHARGE UP WITH U HAUL'S COSTUMER SERVICE and they were unwilling to make it right. Or even care. So: 1.The Van wasn't where I needed it, when I needed it. 2. The incorrect information regarding where to return it cost me $314.00. 3. We made a reservation for mobile pick-up, which did not work at all. Upon completing your check in, you are directed to locate your vehicle, which is impossible because there are at least 80 tightly packed trucks on the lot. This defeated, we got in a long line to wait for our turned at the understaffed counter. Whereupon they assigned us a truck that was completely boxed in. So then we found a helpful employee roaming the lot who tried to help us, but ultimately gave us a truck with a license plate that did not match our rez, so back in line for another 40 minutes. On 9/6/2024, I dropped off my car at U-Haul Moving & Storage at Candlestick around 11 AM for a hitch installation (Order #95967623). I was informed to pick up the car at approximately 3:50 PM. After retrieving my vehicle, I checked the center console and noticed that a $500 Whole Foods gift card and 6 AMC movie tickets were missing. Originally, we had stored 2 gift cards and 8 movie tickets in the center console, but now only 1 gift card and 2 tickets remain. I distinctly remember not placing the tickets under the coin wallet, but when I checked, the remaining 2 tickets were hidden underneath it. This clearly indicates that someone accessed the console, which must have happened after the installation, as U-Haul employees had full access to my car during that time. I filed the police report and claim to repwest, let see what will happen next. I would say the service is good, but the way how it end really ruined the whole experience. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. This U-Haul location is a decrepit graveyard filled to the brim with incompetent ghouls. We made a reservation online to pick up a 10-foot van on a Saturday morning. Upon confirmation, U-Haul told us that our pickup location would be determined the evening before, Friday. We received no alert. On Saturday morning, just 30 minutes before our scheduled pickup, we received an alert that our pickup location would be in an entirely different city. We go to the pickup location in the next city over and the staff tells us that a they do not have our reservation. We showed them our confirmation email, and they said that a confirmation doesn't mean they have the truck we need, and directed us to call U-haul support because they couldn't do anything. This U-Haul location ruined a major furniture move to Yosemite on a weekend that numerous people had cleared their busy work schedules to accommodate. And they couldn't be bothered to help us rebook the equipment we needed. THIS IS A ZERO STAR REVIEW. Avoid this U-haul location - and any U-haul in general - like the plague. These bloodsuckers will drain the life force from your body with their incredible stupidity and carelessness. Associate was amazing services but it just a little bit long sometimes when you waiting for a truck to be ready. sometimes customers drop off there trucks and didn't close the door all the way so it drank out the batteries they got a jumper but they found me another one to replace mine so I gave 4 stars for my experience. They completely botched my hitch installation. Half of the bolts were missing, the other half had the wrong size and no nuts. The hitch could have moved or completely separated from my vehicle while towing. They also broke my spare tire holder during the install, which cost me $800. Their insurance refused to pay up and denied responsibility. I had to sue them to get the damages covered. God knows how many vehicles are out on the road with a hitch that's about to pop out - absolutely deplorable. Stay away from this location. read more

PSA: CRIME SCENE FOR RENT TW: MURDER I can't believe I am writing this review but this location tried to rent my roommate and I a literal MURDER truck. I received a phone call from my roommate & was left speechless. She informed me that the 20 ft uhaul they gave us had not only crime scene tape on it but dried, smeared blood on the inside of the truck. Her boyfriend opened the back door & came across the left behind crime. She checked the windshield & low and behold there is a tow number followed up by "homicide" written in chalk. She went to speak to a manager, double checking this wasn't some halloween prank/decor. Turns out they had a note in the system saying Sargent Sandy released the truck from the case. They didn't even get it cleaned before renting it out to customers! After doing some research, we come to find out the body was found TWO MONTHS PRIOR. Not only is this a biohazard, who the hell wants their mattress touching a uhaul that had a decaying body in it?! Because this was the last 20 ft truck on their lot, they came to the solution to give us a 26 ft truck for the price of a 20 ft truck with an additional $50 discount. We were told to return the truck by 4 pm, and received a phone call shortly after 4 since we were running a little behind. The audacity to rush us back after trying to give us an actual crime scene of a truck is beyond me. The fact that they even charged us for a uhaul is absolutely absurd. Consumers be awared! I got a hit installation for my brand new vehicle at U-Haul recently. Even thought I had to go there three times due to various reasons from them, such as no part, power outage etc. Finally got my hitch installed on the third time. I was so happy to pick up my car and didn't pay attention to check my vehicle throughly. I thought I should trust they are professional to do a good jobs. However, when I pumped gas after I left U-Haul in about 20 minutes, I noticed the damages on the edges on both side of my real quarter panels. I called them right away and they told me to go in next day as the manager is off work soon that day. I went in the next morning and the tech who installed it checking my vehicle and took some photos. He told me he didn't notice earlier and sorry. He asked his manager helped me to file an incident report and told me to follow up with their insurance Repwest. I did what I was told and resubmitted all evidence after as they didn't submit the photos they took. After a month process, I received their final decision to denied their liability of this claim as the Hitch Pro denied to damage my vehicle during installation. If thr hitch tech didn't admit his wrongdoing, he could just tell me that day instead of wasting my time to go through of these. I could just get a lawyer involved for a fair investigation instead of using their own insurance company to against me. My mistake is that I didn't check when I picked it up at the store. Otherwise, they have no excuse to deny it. Just be careful if you bring your vehicle to U-Haul for hitch installation. Make sure you take photos of your car before you hand them the keys and triple check after you pick up the vehicle before you leave the U haul store. Otherwise, it's your loss if any damage they cause. From the damage photos I attached, I don't know how can cause other than someone used tools in the area to force opening the panels. I was moving over the weekend and was looking for cheap plastic containers. A quick search and U-Haul option popped up. The nearest location with availability was in San Francisco - near Candlestick Park. I booked 10 containers for the next day. It didn't specify the pick up time on the website, so that meant I could pick up before the location closes at 7pm. Next day, I drove for 1.5 hours after work and reached at 6:30 pm. Positive: The location is easy to find, just off 101. There is ample of parking spots. Apart from U-Haul trucks, moving supplies, there's also a storage facility. Negative: very slow service. I was second in the line. There is no acknowledgement from anyone. They were clearly understaffed - one person tk run the entire location. Anyway after waiting for nearly 25 mins, I was called. The person was friendly. She checked the system and mentioned that our order was cancelled 4 mins back (which was confusing as the system never indicated pick up time). Had to reorder the containers. The containers were very dirty. Also during the move, I realized that the handle is very harsh, so you need to wear gloves to protect your palms getting all red. read more

The last two times I've used trucks from this site I've been charged an extra day after I returning the truck on time. The last time I returned it a few hours early to avoid any confusion, but my emailed receipt showed I was charged an extra day. Uhaul makes it very difficult to contact customer service to get refunded. And it's not just a rouge employee. This happened a year apart and there were different employees involved. I literally NEVER write negative reviews because I'd like to think I'm very understanding, BUT: There was an employee named Wendy who was SO RUDE and passive aggressive. The other location we went to in SJ made sure everything was good to go before charging us for the trailer we needed, and went above and beyond helping us find a solution. Wendy on the other hand? AFTER CHARGING US (and not checking if everything was good to go), all she said was *AND WITH ATTITUDE*: "Uh... you guys were supposed to do that beforehand renting"... she's supposed to be the expert, how would we know? Anyway, I'm sure she could care less about this review and the job but honestly if she just didn't have attitude after we had a long day running around different uHauls, I would not have cared about this issue. U-Haul is conveniently located ~1 mile from my house so getting a truck rental is no problem, even during the pandemic on a Monday morning. I had to haul a chest freezer from Home Depot and I had no way to get that to fit into my passenger vehicle without tipping it over or doing some very risky roof mount that may or may not work. I booked a rental online literally on the day of. The process was very streamlined because I had provided all my details electronically before dropping by. There was no wait to get a truck and I was given a rental right away on the lot. For a truck rental you'll get a Silverado and it had plenty of power to haul anything you need. I got the keys and was on my way with my electronic rental agreement. My advice here is to make sure you document every nook and cranny on the truck as you will be held liable for anything and everything if you're not careful. Previous damage to the truck was already marked with a repair sticker and it just requires you to reconfirm they still exist. Any new damage that is not already documented requires you to take a photo to append to the rental agreement. I like to take copious photos and I suggest that you do the same in order to release yourself of liability if you don't get the full coverage insurance. If this is too much work or you have doubts about whether or not your automobile coverage will pay for damages (most do not cover rental trucks) then it's $25 to cover the truck for any dents, dings, scratches, and even fender benders. Returning the rental was also quick as I dropped off the keys and made my way back home. I like to take copious photos for documentation purposes so make sure you also get the mileage and fuel level before you leave in case you get dinged for not returning it with the original fuel level. The return area is on a slight downhill slant so if you get the truck back it will show a fuel level lower than what you had and you will automatically be charged with a EZ fuel fee if you're not careful. I had to send a fuel receipt in order to clear this up and was promptly refunded by customer service. read more

My observations below are being included in my letter to U-Haul corporate headquarters. Observations: Disconnect between U-Haul HQ and the Bayshore location. Protocol is not aligned, or followed. Poor customer service. The customer was told he was wrong by manager, and she was very emotional. Lack of ownership. Drug abuse on-site. I made an appointment through U-Haul's customer service team to purchase and have a hitch installed on my new vehicle; the customer service representative said it would be approximately a one hour appointment, and I could wait there. Upon arriving early for my appointment, I was informed by the on-site associate that it would be a four hour wait, as other customers had dropped off their vehicles before me. I explained what I was told by the CSR on the phone, and that I had rearranged my day for the appointment and I had other places to be within four hours. I was informed by the associate and her manager that they couldn't be held responsible for what the CSR had told me, that it's not an "appointment" but a "drop off." We argued. I showed the U-Haul email confirmation that contradicts exactly what they told me. They couldn't (wouldn't?) honor what I was told by the CSR. The manager raised her voice and got emotional with me, and told me that I was wrong to voice my frustration. Sitting in the waiting room for a very long time, I observed many employees coming and going from the adjacent locked room. Each time the door opened, the wafting smell of pot was obvious. Are the employees using a controlled substance while on the clock? As I sat in the waiting room, I read all of the poor reviews on Yelp about this U-Haul location. I didn't like this location . . . kinda sketchy the day we visited this location because a couple of Spanish speaking immigrants walked right up to my car sticking there heads INTO my car window vying for work without applying for a legal work permit! I had to tow the trailer behind my 4 WD 4-Runner because I had purchased the top of the line U-Haul tow hitch from Santa Monica U-Haul in 2003. My tow hitch is awesome and problem-free. The cost to rent a trailer was phenominally, surprisingly inexpensive for the day's usage. I must admit I clocked over 250 miles in one day moving all Joy's stuff from SF to East Bay hauling that U-haul trailer behind my car. The trailer did rattle quite a bit and the tow hitch dipped downwards . . . I must also add I didn't like how MUCH the tow hitch dipped downward-seemed rather unsafe. Especially, when I was going over speed bumps the tow hitch would grind, scrape against the speed bump! Not good at all . . . Upon returning the U-Haul trailer at 6:35 PM (closes at 7 PM!), I waited for an employee for 10 minutes to unhitch the trailer from my 4-Runner. I was biting my fingernails when this guy would show up and unhitch the trailer from my 4-Runner! Then the guy wanted me to back the trailer into the trailer parking spot where he didn't have to physically move the trailer himself. Dude! Do your job! It's not my responsibility to park the trailer where the other trailers are parked! I parked the trailer as close as possible where the other trailers are located so, all you have to do, DUDE is reposition and straighten the trailer into the correct parking spot! O=:-O Oy-evay! Unfortunately I have to write U-Haul did a terrible job. A hitch was installed on my Ford Mustang by U-Haul Vallejo on September 1, 2022. When I hooked up the bike rack for the first time, I found that the hitch was completely warped and the rack wasn't easy to install. So I made a new appointment with Uhaul for September 13th in San Francisco. Manager Adelia looked into the issue and was willing to make an exchange. She has ordered a new hitch that should arrive in the shop on October 11th, 2022. I then arranged an assembly appointment with UHaul San Francisco. When I arrived at the agreed time there was no new hitch. A second appointment was made for November 9, 2022. When I got to the shop at 1575 Bayshore Blvd San Francisco there was no mechanic there. When asked, I was able to speak to the manager and she promised that the fitter Alejandro Chavez would repair the car. When I got back to the shop the car wasn't ready. The fitter Alejandro Chavez informed me that he could NOT make an exchange as the bolts were too tight. I have come to this location numerous times over the last 18 months. It is close to where I live and work, and the inventory is large. However, I have had exemplary customer service experiences where the staff are knowledgeable, polite and efficient, and equipment new and ready to go. Then I've had staff who gave information that was not consistent, and equipment that might be in near salvage state. I have a heart for the handful of staff who I see regularly there who endure the chronic state of lack--I know that the budget there is lean, and they make the most of what they have. This by far is the worst u-haul in all of the Bay Area. First of all, as soon as you walk in it smells as if you're in a cannabis shop! By all means, do what you gotta do but freshen this place up. This facility is also the corporate U-Haul and not a dealer store so you'd expect some kind of professionalism. I do like the ladies at the counter because they are patient and helpful. They were even helping another customer next to me figure out his issues so he could rent a truck. Issue #1 it was pouring rain and we were waiting in our car for a little over 15 minutes for our 20ft truck to be delivered to us. They expected us to wait outside in the rain???? I parked right next to the drop off. As soon as I called and noticed customer service the delivery guy came out knocked on our window saying "y'all have the keys?!" We Gave him the keys and the employee yelled loud and proud "I don't know why y'all staying in the car for?!" Excuse me? We're parked right in front of the delivery, waiting for our car-- just cause you have to stand in the rain waiting for us, doesn't mean we have too! We paid for our dues, please give us the rental on time vs. us waiting 15 minutes... no one else was there waiting! So that guy finally came In delivered our truck rushing over and left the keys in the car huffing and puffing. 2. Issue, I asked to extend the day since it's raining and we didn't want to return the car from Hayward to SF. I was charged another $60, when the customer service rep said I'd only be charged for an extra day which was $39.99! Where'd that extra $20 fees come from and wasn't stated when I had to agree over the phone! 3. I called customer service about it and I understand it's Sunday and you're working but please, be a little more understanding that we paid for services .. 10/10 don't come here. Go to Home Depot! This U-haul is a scam. Please check the van a few more times. I rent one and didn't see there is a big dent. Why I didn't see it, it is a size of the adult fist. But it was cover by smooth paint. When I checked the van, I was looking at where you could see some dent that was obvious with paint off or scratches. When I return they said there is two dents on the hood which is quite big. This is probably the best example of one of the worst run stores in history. We pre-ordered a truck online and they gave us a "self check out" option. Now when you hear "self checkout" you think check out by yourself. We are told once we arrive that we have to walk around the lot to physically find our truck ourselves, but once we find it, go inside and talk to someone anyway. Why in the world would you make us go thru that song and dance? How is that better than just going to the counter and talking to someone from the jump? Instead of the promise of a self check out experience. Nobody could answer why the process was so convoluted. Also nobody helped us find our truck. To top it off, the truck wasn't anywhere to be found after walking the entire lot. So we had to go inside and talk to someone anyway after wasting our time. Once inside there was 1 person helping a huge line of people. Their system wasn't working, which is why the line was so long. Good thing they have free wi-fi, might as well be productive in a place where nothing is. Worst U-haul EVER!!! Wouldn't even recommend to my enemies. read more
