I've had more than one poor experience here, but my most recent visit confirmed that customer service simply isn't a priority. I stopped in to ask a straightforward question about reserving a trailer for an upcoming out-of-state move--something where reliability actually matters. I asked politely how to ensure a trailer would be available when I need it. The response I received was, "That's life." That wasn't a joke, and there was no attempt to clarify, assist, or offer alternatives. Just a dismissive, indifferent answer to a legitimate concern. If you're planning anything time-sensitive or important, I would strongly recommend going elsewhere. After using this location many times over the past few years I AM DONE! When I picked up the truck it had less fuel than on the contract and was very dirty inside the cab. I went back in and told the kid that was working and he said he would note the account. The day after I returned the truck I got an invoice with a $100 charge for cleaning I called the number and you cannot reach the location directly. I filed a dispute and was told I would be contacted. After calling and emailing 5x I got a picture of the reason for the $100 charge. See attached picture. FIVE PINE NEEDLES ON THE OUTSIDE STEP!! I've now contacted them a total of SEVEN TIMES with no response but demand letters for payment. Last year I spent almost $1000 on rental fees at this location. I rented a motorcycle trailer in May, and the U-Haul guy hooked it up to my van for me. So nice! That's what I thought at least. I stepped outside to check on it while he hooked up the trailer. The hitch was too low to the ground, and needed to be flipped over to make the attachment point for the trailer at the correct height. Instead of saying anything, the guy hooked it up and said I was ready to go. The trailer tongue was about 6in from the ground, which is incredibly dangerous. I pointed out the hitch and asked if it needed to be flipped, and he said "I don't have time to do that" I understand being busy, trust me, so instead I asked if I could instead just rent one of their hitches. He again just said "I don't have time for that" so I asked him if it was safe for the trailer to be that low and his response was "honestly, probably not bro, I got other things I gotta do" I understand that my hitch isn't his problem, but It's unacceptable to tell someone to say "you're ready to go" when there's an obvious safety hazard, then saying "I don't have time for that" when I literally had to make an appointment, and then walk away before figuring out a way to fix the problem. I ended up having to walk to the Fred Meyer and buy 2 massive pipe wrenches to flip the hitch myself because the guy walked away. I do not recommend this place because of the unprofessionalism. I arranged to pick up my truck at 7am via the 24/7 mobile pickup. They accepted the reservation but when I showed up at 7am and clicked to pick up the truck I got the message in the picture. I called U-Haul and they said the store never set the keys up in the pickup box. This majorly screwed up my day and cost us extra money because of missing the window on other equipment rentals we had set up for the day. One of the employees working there is the rudest person I've dealt with in my life. Kept cutting me off and wouldn't even let me finish talking. One of their customers backed one of their trailers straight into my car and left tons of damage. They wouldn't contact the customer on my behalf telling them to get in touch with me or even tell me the plate number of who ruined my vehicle. The guy started yelling at me on the phone saying he never said I could leave my car there and kept accusing me of leaving it overnight: I didn't. And one of the other employees I called to talk to ensured me I was, in fact, able to leave it there a couple hours past closing which is when I dropped the uhaul off and picked my car up. I even have the time stamp on my return form stating the time I dropped off the uhaul, which he had available in front of him to look at to see that I wasn't lying about leaving it overnight, but still he kept trying to lie and say he had security texting him in the "middle of the night" telling him my car "specifically" was there. It's fine if they can't give out the information but it's not fine that the employee is choosing to cut me off when I'm speaking, gaslighting me about when I got my car, and being completely rude and yelling at me. Useless employee. Not to mention, on top of all this, the truck that they gave me had the parking brake literally hanging down and not fully connected to the truck. I brought this to one of the worker's attention and he said "oh well, it'll be fine." Absolute unprofessional sh*t show of a uhaul location. Including proof of drop off time to prove I didn't stay "overnight" and that it wasn't there in "the middle of the night" and also proof of damage. This has been one of the worst experiences I have ever had with U-Haul. I absolutely will not be recommending U-Haul in Burien for this type of work. 1. This location has never answered the phone when I have called to set-up, confirm, and reconfirm the appointments (note the plural). 2. This location did not have the materials needed for the below scheduled work on the original installation day (7/9) and there was only one individual staffed at the location for the day, Alex. He had no staff to send to get the materials and suggested he considered asking his mother to transfer the materials from Kirkland for him. While that is notable, why hadn't the materials been transferred between 7/6 and 7/9 as originally scheduled? 3. I usually give a second chance, so I rescheduled with Alex for today (7/15). I attempted to call before my appointment to confirm they were ready with the materials and scheduling since it required taking time out of work for the appointment...no answer. I called multiple times thinking it would be the single individual again and he was busy, I even waited on hold for 15 minutes to speak with the central office...no answer. 4. I traveled there for my appointment and was surprised to see a total of 4 U-haul staff on-site. That is the most I have ever seen at that location. The woman apparently in-charge was outside smoking her e-cig standing by another team member who was working on installing something into a van, another team member was filling propane, and the last individual was inside the building seemingly doing nothing until the apparent manager and I entered the building. I was surprised to see this and realize that after 5 attempts to call and confirm my appointment, NO ONE ANSWERED! 5. The apparent manager tried to tell me that their installer had quit and she was "worried this would happen"...that someone would show up with a scheduled hitch installation. It requires asking: Is there not a schedule for the location management to review? If the installer quit, WHY DIDN'T I RECEIVE A PHONE CALL TO RESCHEDULE? 6. When she looked in the computer system, she found my appointment and told me the materials that were to have been transferred from Kirkland prior to 7/9 and again prior to today, had not been transferred and were still in Kirkland. She tried to tell me I would be better served by going to Kirkland to complete the installation. Was that meant to rebuild my faith and desirability of using U-Haul at all for this service? 7. Before I left, (and I suppose you could credit the woman for asking) I was asked if I wanted to reschedule with the Burien location in a week's time in case she had a new installer. The uhaul truck we rented was filled with trash from the previous customer to include bags of trash, broken boxes, and machetes. We were unaware of this until we were ready to load the truck so it forced us to clean up prior to being able to move our belongings. The truck clearly was marked with decals that stated the truck needed to be cleaned prior to returning it but this truck was obviously never checked by the staff. Also, the night prior to our scheduled rental date I was informed not only that our previously scheduled one way rental was not available but that I would also need to go to another location to pick up the truck. Then after arriving at the new location I was told they didn't have any furniture pads for us to use even though they were clearly reserved online a week prior to the rental date. Had a reservation for a 10 foot truck at the location. The pick up time and location were confirmed for me TWICE. When we showed up, they didn't have the truck. When we asked the reason, the manager told us "he didn't know". Then he suggested we go to other uhaul locations in the area to see if they have one we can use. I asked if he could call and confirm if the other location had one, and Bao said he couldn't because he "didn't want to get yelled at". What?! The GM is scared of calling other locations because of the chance of getting yelled at, which I doubt would happen over a simple question.. He said he would send a message to the other closest location and tell them we were coming. When we got to the sea tac location, they knew exactly who bao was and said this wasn't a uncommon thing with him. Also, they had no message from him, like he said he would send. Thank goodness they had the truck we needed, the incident at this location set us over an hour and a half behind schedule on a very busy day. I guess everyone has had different experiences at U-Haul, so i can't say this in the defense of the business. Again, I'm yelping away because I love reviewing about my own experiences. I first dealt with U-Haul of Burien when I had to move in August 2014. I started out simple enough: reserved my truck for the move. Showed up the next day with my boyfriend, talked to the manager there, he showed us the truck, asked us to check for any wrong signs of the truck for record, signed the agreement, and drove it away for hauling. We came back the next day since we reserved it for 24 hours and paid our dues. The second time, which happened around the last week of January 2015, was pretty much the same thing. There is the manager with the country accent and the Asian assistant woman with him. The manager is always so funny and friendly! He actually gave me a paper version figure of U-Haul and said, "This is for the child." I laughed at that. read more

Everyone says to go to U-Haul to get a trailer hitch installed. DON'T. I made an appointment two weeks ago. The person who made the appointment didn't clarify which option we wanted. When I got the receipt for the required deposit, I noticed that she had ordered the smaller of the two choices rather than the one I intended to purchase. I called to fix the error and was redirected to a call center. The lady there couldn't fix the order, so she just entered some notes and asked me to call back. When I called back, I was redirected to a gentleman who said he wasn't at the store or the call center. Through an extensive lengthy conversation, he claimed to have fixed the order and confirmed all of the parts would be ready for my appointment. Then, on Friday before my appointment I received a voicemail stating a part was on back order and they would have to reschedule or refund my deposit. I called back to clarify and was quickly directed to the manager, Aaron. He told me they were having problems with their ordering system and couldn't guarantee the missing part would be ready even a whole week later. The part wasn't absolutely necessary for my needs, so I asked to keep the original appointment for this morning with only minimal work (simply the hitch installed - no wiring, no ball mount, ball or even a pin). Aaron agreed to that. When we arrived this morning, Bao gave us an excuse of why they couldn't honor the appointment, saying his worker was at another store and directing us to the corporate line to complain. They failed to call us and notify us that they weren't able to fulfill the appointment. They were rude and dismissive, as if we had done something wrong by showing up for our scheduled installation appointment. How dare we desire to spend $500 at their establishment? We accepted a refund of our initial deposit and will be contacting our mechanic to schedule installation. His labor rates will be higher, but we trust his work, he'll keep his appointment and his customer service will not leave us frustrated. DO NOT ASK TO GET A HITCH INSTALLATION AT U-HAUL. If it wasn't the day before moving day for us, I would be calling Budget or any other truck rental service I could. They had 2 1/2 weeks to procure a 26 foot truck at our pro-active request. They waited until less than 24 hours before to inform us that not only did they NOT have the truck we requested but that we would now need to drive 40 miles to obtain a truck that is only 17 feet long instead of picking it up at our original location in Burien. I would note that they need a heavy revamp to how they do business with their customers. Giving us more than a days notice that they could not provide what was requested would be a big number one. Online reservation 22860020 OVER 30 days ago for a 20 foot truck- simple process. Checked one week before pick up date, they told me everything was fine, they will have the truck ready. They called me yesterday, less than 24 hours before pick up, telling me the nearest 20 foot truck is OVER 4 hours away. I thought this was ridiculous, the U-Haul representative replied with so much ATTITUDE-"when you did the reservation you should have noticed that the details would be finalized the day before." I was in disbelief. Thirty minutes later I got another call saying they found a truck for me, 30 minutes away, 5 hours later than I originally requested, and it is only 15 feet. 25% smaller than the truck I reserved, what that means for me is that I need to get rid of 25% of what I own with less than 24 hours notice. The people at this one are nice, though most of the rentals are only for moves where you will be returning the truck to the same location. They have a good variety of size options and all the necessary supplies - I've used their box trucks and vans, and picked up extra boxes. Getting the truck was no problem, once I got in I see it has a check engine light on and tire pressure warning light as well.... I ask them about the lights and they clear the screen and tell me it's no problem. As I'm staying local it shouldn't be a problem. I have been here the last two weekends renting trucks for our move. Both times it was a total shitshow. Today, the owners dropped in during the busy check-in time time. We've rented trailers from them several times and never had a problem till today. We reserved a 5' X 9' trailer so that we could haul a queen size mattress and box spring to the dump. When we put the box spring in, it wouldn't lay flat. So we got out a tape measure and measured the trailer. Turns out it's about 4 1/2' feet wide, not 5' as specified. We've rented this size trailer before and never thought it was smaller than specified. My roommate took is straight back and complained. Instead of apologizing and trying to work things out, they refunded his card and told him not to come back. I called with a specific question to see if they could do what I needed, and asked for name of person I was talking to and said I would ask for him when I got there. Got there and the person I talked to was in AZ and person behind counter was rude in explaining calls are forwarded. Why is call center dishonest and misleading? When I showed them my car and electrical situation and trailer hitch install needed, they said they couldn't do it and to come back when manager was in, but they weren't sure when he would be there. I've had very different experiences at the Burien U-Haul. They have installed a hitch for me and I've bought moving supplies. They are installing another hitch this week. They can be slow, but it's seems they are just understaffed. I do have a hard time getting ahold of them also. If they don't pick up it routes you to the call center. However, the call center is able to make hitch installation appointments. All in all I like them and their hitch installation price can't be beat. read more

So I'm following up from yesterday's post the one I posted originally about the Kenmore U-Haul which was a horrifying experience that I received from the guy hanging up in my face me showing up in person and him seeing seeing that I was African American just really treated me badly and I picked up my truck this morning from the same location and it barely had no gas in the truck at all and they told me to put was ever in the tank back in there I get to my apartment which is in Mill Creek and I have barely had enough gas to get to Burien the same guys that I picked up mind you from the morning when I got the truck and then they have the nerve to charge my fiance's credit card behind my back $15 saying I went over the mileage which was a lie it barely had any gas in it from the get go. this is a horrible company this company should never ever ever have black people's business African Americans don't deal with U-Haul they're not going to treat you all right and if you called their corporate office they're going to put you on hold for a long time and laugh at you they don't care I'm telling you but I will get Justice I will not let this deter me from making sure that another African-American goes through this!! read more

When I picked up my truck the employees where very nice, and from what I thought communicated everything. This was my third or 4th time renting a U-Haul and I let them know I was dropping off at another location they said that's fine just make sure by 3 or I will be charged more. I returned it at another location and was charged a fee I was not made aware of. I called to get more information and was immediately transferred to customer service who started a case, the Burien office manager called me angry, said it's my fault I didn't read contract , said I was told information I was not. Said I handle this with Rainer location because they charged me not her. Not professional at all, very rude and did not put customer first. read more

I called another UHaul to rent a trailer, but they didn't have the hitch I needed, so the woman at the West Seattle location called around. Justin from this location called back to schedule an appointment for the next day, and I told him I was free today. He scheduled the appointment for later in the day, then called back immediately to let me know he could fit me in right away. I was free, so it worked out great. The shop was really busy. Right after my car was taken in, 4 people showed up for different things. Justin handled all the customers with wonderful service. There were a handful of other customers that came in throughout my wait, and they were all treated with the same level of service. I was in and out in less than an hour and a half. This place is a joke. I ordered a hitch online to be installed here. They then called, blaming their software, and told me my time had been double booked and I would have to reschedule. Their "hitch guy" is only there on Wednesday. I had to wait a week. I dropped the car off at noon to be ready at closing. They called at 2p, again blaming their software and said they did not have the hitch in house. I asked if they had checked other stores. Nope. Asked them to get on it. They called at 3:00 to tell me they had found a hitch but not the electrical components. I said fine, put it on, I'll have them put the wiring in later. I showed up 20 minutes before closing and the work was not done. The instructions (on their website) say to drill out the holes on the hitch to fit my car. They didn't have the tools to do this. ???? A week of waiting and an entire afternoon without the car getting shuttled to and from the store wasted. The workers and Bau, the general manager are incompetent. I cancelled my order. My husband and I are getting ready to move and had used Burien U-Haul once before and found the ladies who worked there to be extremely friendly and helpful, so of course I wanted to go back. Let's start by saying that I am not usually one to write a negative review. I can excuse most things, but the treatment I received by Sean, the general manager the morning I arrived, was the worst customer service I have ever received and was so shocked his rudeness, I was actually shocked. I arrived at 7:00 a.m. exactly. When I arrived Sean was out in the lot, saw me, looked at his watch rolled his eyes and walked past me. At first I thought, well this is just the garage guy so forgave him and proceeded to wait another 10 minutes all the while any time Sean had a chance, he rolled his eyes, walked past me more than once and totally ignored me. Finally after 15 minutes of this, I asked if he was the one who was opening the store for the day. His reply was a very curt, rude "I will open it when it is time". Apparently I must have missed something because the doors said 7:00 a.m., the web-site said 7:00 am and it was almost 7:20 by this time. Later that day I returned to talk to the manager about my treatment, only to find that this guy was the Manager! The other guy behind the counter tried to make things right, but what can he do, he is not the manager and I doubt that Sean would even care. Let's also mention that when I did come back the second time, Sean walked past me again with his head down and totally ignored me - AGAIN! The irony here is it could have gone so differently. If he would have taken one of his precious minutes to simply greet me and say "Hey, I am running behind this morning and am going to be a little late opening the store" I would probably have come back. Sadly for you Sean, you just lost about $2,000 in business! I hope U-Haul seriously considered getting rid of this guy, because myself and a lot of the people I know who are moving, will not use their services. Very unprofessional and lazy that don't care i scheduled my appointment 2 times and either of those two times i couldn't get my trailer hitch installed and yet still call me if i was still interested in getting it done!!!1st appointment i dropped off my truck at 7 am and they claimed to drop it off and will get done by end of the day next thing you know they called me at 5 saying that the person who installs the hitches called in sick ,that is my only work vehicle i have!!! 2nd time they schedule my appointment i arrived at 7 again when i arrived a lady they made me wait about 40 minutes too see if they will get my hitch installed and off course they said again reason why im saying they are lazy is because the person who was helping me called a person too install the hitch but also said that another person who was currently working at the time they knew how to do it but automatically that person said "im leaving at 10" which was fine but was still enough time to get the hitch installed and just the hitch itself no electrical wires were needed made me loose money for two f----- day read more
