Went to pick up a 10' on Sunday, the lady running the computer was also pulling trailers from the yard, instead of having someone in the yard doing it and she's stays on the computer, then after 20 mins of waiting she finally comes inside and takes care of me. She hands me the keys and sends me outside. I am roaming the lot aimlessly looking for the 10' truck. I found an employee outside and he just point in a direction of 5 truck in a corner. What ever happened to them pulling up the truck??? Didn't make no sense that she was pulling a trailer for the couple in front of me but now I have wonder the yard for my own truck?? Then the gas was way off from the email receipt. It said I left with a full tank but it was actually a little over 3/4. I drove 70 miles total and ended up putting 12 gallons of gas back into it??? Make sure you check your email before you leave guys. They will scam you for gas. read more

Had a wonderful experience! I rented a 26'er for 24hrs, returned it during business hours, no problems. When I returned, I needed a 15' for 2 more days, which I rented while I was there. Get to my house, load up the truck and the back door would NOT shut! I was stuck, calling to the local branch I rented from, turns out their phones were off according to the offsite person I was speaking to on the phone. I got transferred around a few times, then landed with their roadside assistance. Roadside, was able to reach the local branch and got someone to us withing about 30min. This guy was a mobile mechanic, that had everything he needed. I saw him bring out a brand new cable for the door, as it was wrapped around the rod up top. He quickly made the permanent repair (was affraid I was going to need to unload and load into another truck). I received a text from branch manager (I think) asking if I got taken care of. My response "I lost 2 hours total, can I get an extra 2 hours added to my return time". They responded they would get back to me. I missed their call, they left a voicemail, stating they would extend my time another 7 hours, and that I could return after hours. What a very nice gesture that took the stress out of my situation. Though I only ended up returning it 20min after my original return time, just that little gesture removed enough stress to make my rental a very pleasant one with this West Sac group. So my husband and I are moving to Portland and we reserved a large 26 foot U-Hal. We bought insurance and everything for it. We got a flat tire/ blow out and went to our closest U-Hal location, They were unaccommodating, and very short. We then had to come to the West Sac location to see what our options were. Elijah was working and was EXTREMELY helpful, kind, and had some of the best customer services skills I have encountered, anywhere. he is truly an awesome person and employee. We were able to get ahold of corporate U-Hal with Elijah's help and can't thank him enough. Luckily U-Haul was able to get us someone to come fix the blowout. We are now waiting for that service. I would give them 5 stars but I'm reserving the last star, only because whomever owns this franchise, doesn't deserve the few wonderful overworked, understaffed workers. They professionally work at their optimum despite the overwhelming business. There's only so much they can do with so many customers coming in and out! They need help. The workers ( 1 or 2) at a time, never complain, are very helpful and kind. It's insanely obvious the 1 or 2 on any given shift are wearing so many hats on their shift. A note for anyone looking to move during COVID: U-Haul is NOT a reliable vehicle provider and is overbooking trucks despite a statewide vehicle shortage. We scheduled a van pickup for a move and it was a complete nightmare. We reserved our truck for a Saturday, paid for it in advance and checked-in for our reservation the night before. However, when we arrived in the morning of our move we had to wait in a long line. Finally, when we got to the front desk, U-Haul had given our van away saying that we were "late" despite having arrived on time. Not only was the woman at the front desk rude, but she was NOT wearing a mask and kept inching closer as she was talking. Because of U-Haul's poor organization, we had to cancel our movers and rebook the entire move. Our movers told us that there is a statewide truck shortage and so this has happened to many clients working with U-haul. Apparently people are moving out of California en masse bc of Covid and there just aren't enough trucks to go around. I understand that the pandemic puts a major stress on logistics of all sorts. However, regular overbooking is a completely unethical practice, particularly when employees aren't even taking basic safety precautions. read more

I've sent many people here to get hitches and wiring harnesses ran from the battery to the back of the vehicle. I've done this for years and it's never been a problem. Its unfortunate everyone who had a brain let alone common sense would do this no problems or questions asked. The new manager now says it's not allowed. Every and I mean every other U-Haul will run the wiring harness no problem. The new manager says she been working for them for twelve years and now makes her own rules. I said I've sent many people and a lot of business their way and she shrugged me off and made it seem like she could care less. She had a rude attitude and could care less. Now I have to send customer instead of down the street in west sac to Auburn. Poor customer service. Made up rules and bad attitude. The guy that helped us with our reservation was awesome! Sadly I didn't catch his name but he was speedy and efficient! I did the online check in before arriving, and I feel like that helped a lot on his end and ours. We were hooked up with the trailer and ready to go within 25 mins of arriving. Poor customer service. An older male filling propane tanks today appeared to be overwhelmed by customers needing propane. He was obviously agitated by the high volume of business the company was receiving today. Instead of being grateful he has a job and U-Haul is making money, he lost his temper as I was walking up to get my propane tank refilled. Yelling at me in an aggressive / disrespectful manner, "don't bring that over here, youll be waiting for 40 minutes!" Rented a truck about a week in advance. Show up that morning at my scheduled time. Took me 45 minutes to get a truck. Employee didn't seem to know what she was doing, kept assigning me to the wrong truck, and after 4 different truck assignments I finally get my truck and it's got a quarter tank of gas. Refused to bill the card I had in my hand for additional charges. instead billed the card on file and handed me the receipt. Even though I asked him not to. This review has to do with the delivery of our u-boxes, and how Theresa, the manager helped us out. The U-box order had been screwed up by corporate, and was in the wrong status. This resulted in a delay, that was not Theresa or west Sac uhaul's fault. They came through by getting the boxes there the next day, using another office's resources. Theresa also arranged for the delivery fee to be waived as an accommodation. I see a lot of negative reviews, but because of the extra effort of Theresa in what is clearly a crazy moving environment in this area, I say they did pretty darn good by me. read more

I showed up at the scheduled date and time, wait forever for an employee to help ( no one was in the store while I and 3 other customers waited), and then they tell me they don't do hitch installation on the weekends. Chris who supposedly is the "district manager" would not give me his superiors information when asked and would only give me the run around by providing their general customer service line. He repeatedly hung up on me (after their customer service would transfer me to him when I would call to talk to someone else) when I wanted to reach someone above or beyond him to extend the rental. Also, the store has a policy to not take returns of merchandise that has been opened but no prior notice is and customers are not notified of this policy prior to purchase which is not a common practice in any retail sale situation unless the item is clearly marked "final sale" read more

Do not go to HAul in West Sacramento, Ca at :1750 West Capitol. I reserved a pickup on line with all of my info. Was all set ready to go in and pick it up. HA HA! 1st online it does not state must use major credit card it took my info and card on line and no where was I informed I needed to have a credit card. I have always used my debit everywhere else including airlines and hotels. Then the equal priced trucks were ofcourse gone. Still needed to haul junk to dump. 2nd was quoted $29.95 for a moving van, ok and was told as we only needed it for a few hours it would be less. Needed to return it by 6pm for refund of some of the 29.95. Oh and ofcourse a $100 dollar deposit on I get it back. My cost would be under $50 so ok lets go. 3rd tank must be filled to 1/4tank level exactly or charged for fill-up. Also a per mileage charge for 50 miles but if less get money back. 4th ok all good.returned truck and was charged $100.67 for a $29.95 rental. Break down was $0.89 per mile ( went 20 miles)and safe move covrage, $29.95 rental to the tune of $88.45 plus $1.00 environment fee and $5 safe trip fee ( wait wasn't I charged $14 dollars safe move?) now the 29.95 fee totals $94.45! Oh do not for get the rental tax of $6.22. Total I was charged for what turned out to be 3 hours was $100.67 for a $29.95 a day rental! They have said I get $15 back. Waitbreturned truck in less than the 12 hour time limit so there should be another 10 dollars plus the tax is no longer 6 dollars so that is a total of $27 dollars that needs to be refunded. Unfortunately while I was doing the paying my daughter and son-in -law were doing the driving and return of truck and had things of their own so too late for me to do anything today if tomorrow will demand an explanation plus the proper refund that does not show I give no stars to this company. The West Sacramento Retail Store was amazing. The retail folk: Mitch and Joseph were very kind, hlepful and courteous. However, prior to arriving at the retail store, I had to deal with Aric (Eric) from Traffic via phone -- he was horrible, disrespectful, rude and told me that I should go to Penske. He was getting angry at me for asking questions. I requested to speak to his manager and he told me that he did not have one. I asked him if I could speak to his employee and he refused. He told me that I could only hang up and speak to customer service agent. I did so and filed a complaint. I am still waiting to hear from his supervisor.... I have never left a negative review on Yelp but if I could leave no stars for UHaul, I would. Our experience with UHaul was terrible from start to finish and I would recommend to use any other rental company for your future move. Our reservation was for a 24' truck on July 4th at 8am in San Jose which I confirmed with UHaul the week before. UHaul messed up our reservation and emailed us a confirmation the day before our move at 3:30pm with a new 10am pick up location in Santa Cruz, which is over 30 miles away down Highway 17 (an extremely curvy, two lane freeway that has a ton of traffic on holidays). When I called to complain, they tried to mitigate the mistake by offering a 15' truck with a trailer in another city 30 miles away but at least the drive was easier. During one of my many calls to Customer Service they offered me a discount on the truck and the dolly/ furniture blankets for free. When I picked up the truck, no discounts were applied and we were charged for the trailer! Joseph in Hayward was the only positive point in our experience. The pickup location tried to help resolve the issue by putting us in contact with UHaul's Corporate Customer Service. But the person who could resolve the issue was out but they promised that she would call me on Monday at 2pm to issue the refund. I have not received a call. When we dropped off the truck, the UHaul guy in Sacramento was extremely rude. We previously noticed how kind he was to the lady before us and when he approached us he would not look in the eye and only gave us one word answers in a very dismissive tone. It gave us the feeling that he has an issue with minorities. In addition, he was smoking by the propane refill station, clearly safety is not a concern. Overall, this is the worst customer service experience from a large company that I have experienced. They added many layers of stress on to an already stressful event of moving. Had a bad experience getting a hitch and wiring installed here. Perfectly nice employees, did good work, but they were understaffed and the person doing the hitch installation had to constantly stop and deal with other customers. What should have been about a 2 hour installation ended up taking about 4 and 1/2 hours spread over 2 visits. I would not get a hitch installed here again, but would instead do so at a larger uhaul facility where the person doing the work was not expected to serve other customers as well. Would have given this a 2 star rating for the experience but the employees were good people and doing the best they could. read more

I ordered a 15 foot truck weeks in advance and when I got here early there was one person working and a huge line. When I got to the front they said they'd double booked and there was no truck for me. 45 minutes later (80 minutes of total waiting) they said the best they could do was give me a 26 footer but it needed to be fixed first so I'd need to wait longer. I commissioned these guys to remove and install a higher capacity hitch and 7 pin plug. The initial hitch was a non-fit. Mitchell persevered for a very long time, and gave it his best shot, but fitting that hitch was never going to happen. Mitchell re-installed my original hitch and the 7 pin plug. He kept me informed every step of the way; and unlike most in his situation, he never tried to BS me. He charged only for the latter which he did magnificently. read more

Just want to give my thanks and sincere recommendation for the service and kindness demonstrated by Kamith, as well as Taylor and Ronald at Uhaul of West Sac. They gave exceptional assistance to me and my elderly client, Isabel, setting up moving labor, a rental space for storage, and assisted with communicating among all the vendors over several days to make sure Isabel, who had driven alone from Georgia, was cared for. I was called to help with the moving labor from a network Kamith and her company had access to; Kamith asked if I could accommodate a same day unload for her client who at 70 years old, had lost her husband recently, and just arrived in Sacramento after 10 days of travel. Isabel had only the most distant of relatives here, but she was clearly a sprited woman living out a vision of coming to California to connect with long ago friends that still remained in San Francisco. Her plans to stay with a distant niece went wrong, so Isabel was in California now, with no-one to guide her or a place to stay. Kamith went to work on the phone for the woman; Tayler recommended a few motels to check out, and Ronald gave us assistance finding parking for our personal vehicles while I took Isabel to a different storage location to unload. Everyone there did absolutely everything they could to get me going. The Manager she was great and up beat and that set the mood for the rest of my day. Made me forget all the troubles of yesterday and her assistants were all on point. Took the broken strap situation on the car hauler with a sense of urgency. And the return went flawlessly. The assistant manager James Robinson was very professional explained the whole procedure as he checked me back in DURING HIS LUNCH TIME MIGHT I ADD. Made all the necessary adjustments to my account and had me on my way in record time.
