We read about this place online and it looked interesting. We booked the complete dinner and show weeks out - about $80 per person. It is a very cool place, operating since 1375. It's a dark, cavernous, creepy place as expected. The "show" left much to be desired. The food came out with long, long pauses between courses. Service was pretty poor. It simply wasn't worth $80 per person. While paying, our server asked if we would like to give him a 10% tip. Kinda strong armed us. Come for the atmosphere. They claim the place has been open since the 1300s and it certainly looks like it. Great location by Prague Castle. Very friendly waitstaff. Decent variety of food but the Czech classics are where it's at. Prices are standard for the area. read more

Definitely go here. This medieval tavern, dating back to the 14th century, had an authentic feel and the waitress was very friendly. Chatted briefly about our European travels. The food was good too. Try the local lager. Seated quickly for a late lunch. read more

After visiting the castle, we were a bit hungry so stopped here because it looked interesting from the outside. Little did we know it would be even more interesting inside. The place resembles old taverns, with lots of beer and the waiters are wearing nothing but fur in their lower body parts hahaha it was super cool. They act rough and tough reminding us of the medieval era. What a great themed restaurant. We visited in August 2010. Shared their amazing sausages with warm bread and fresh beer! Boom! read more

Service and show were absolutely amazing. Recommend coming here for sure if you're just in town for a weekend. Our waitress was amazing! Food was pretty good, and served to us family style in a platter. It's like an underground cave that is only lit by candles. Had a fan to keep u cool. They have an all inclusive option for 1200 Czech money. Which means u can order as much beer liquor and eat as much as you want plus have entertainment. The entertainment was 200 Czech money. (8$ usd)The entertainment was a juggler who was also very funny. A guy who like swallowed fire. Belly dancers, and music. The waitress has this whip thing that she goes around just whipping people doesn't hurt much almost like a pinch. But if your a weak woman sit with your back against a wall so you don't get hit much. Also depends on who is there watching the entertainment with you. We had a fun crowd so when she offered to dance we all danced and when she got us drink offs we did it. Which is when two people chug their beers the person who loses gets lashes from her. And usually ur date or friend decides how many lashes you get. And she doesn't go lightly on those so beware. Overall great experience the food was cooked great and very well. We didn't take the all inclusive package since we weren't going to drink much. We had 3 beers each and appetizer and a main course and it came to 1000 Czech money each including tip and entertainment. So depending how much you are going to eat or drink you decide. Three stars for the beautiful ambience, a great genius loci right below the Chateau Steps and a really very nice service. But I shouldn´t have been lazy and walk those few steps to U Hrocha. It's within spitting distance - and moreover down the hill ... Or I should have run up to U Vola! True, it's up the steps, but it´s a good way how to get rid of the beer not get a potbelly! 1, Pilsen beer full of bubbles is a thing for which the bar tender should be sentenced to at least 25 years of imprisonment without a parole. 2, They pretend to be a medieval tavern like the one in Dětenice - but why? Wasn´t this Pilsen pub one of the traditional ones? 3, Their dishes are just a show for tourists - and still they pass them for Old Czech cuisine - so 25 years of imprisonment without a parole also for the chef! 4, A small glass of Pilsen beer for CZK 49? Um, at U Hrocha, where (together with the Zlatý tygr) they serve the best Pilsen beer in all the Universe, it is worth CZK 44:/ To sum it all together: Never more! You could say that it is a bit touristy but it was a fun place to visit. In our first night in the city we walked up to the castle (hradcany) where we came across the Brabantskeho. Inside we could see that there was a guy spitting fire and all people going crazy, so we made a reservation for the next evening. We loved it and the next time in Prague we will be back! read more

Awesome place right by the castle. Great ambience. There was electric lighting but the tables had candlelight's. Practicality wise it wasn't the best, but we were there for the experience and it was awesome. There was a potential show with dinner but we just watch it when other people order it. Great fire show. ugh maggots in my food!!!! Because of that I can't rank this place more than one star. We were walking from our visit from Prague Castle and decided to stop and eat when we saw this cool place. They claim to serve delicious beer, have belly dancer, performers and you feel like you are traveling through medieval Prague! We went in and was immediately greeted by costumed waitresses in this cave-like, dark tavern. We were seated, seated and we started to feel like we were really from medieval times. We got our beer (delicious but room temp), cheese board and salad and started watching belly dancers perform. Everything was going perfect until I started eating my salad and then I bit onto one of the peppers and then saw MAGGOTS crawling out of it!!! I immediately tossed it out! I told the waitress and she just laughed it off and said "oops sorry" and that's it!! It's really dark so you can't really see anything. I bet most people are eating there and don't even know that they are chewing maggot infested food! I can't even eat the rest of my meal! I tried to get out of there as fast as I could! It looked like a promising restaurant from the outside. The interior design lived up to what we've imagined. It was dark and rugged. The menu was short but contained overall medieval sounding plates. Our biggest disappointment was the staff working there. They were shouting loudly above our shoulders to each other making us feel really uncomfortable. Moreover they were rude with the customers (for example they slammed the plates/glasses when serving), and made us feel really unwelcomed. The food was mediocre at best. We had goulash and a salad, the salad was as plain as you can possibly get it and the soup was boring. We did not get the drink we ordered either. Tourist trap. Would not recommend read more
