We ended up buying more than we planned on buying. Impulse buying? Maybe! But, when I see something not carried in other Asian stores, when I see something in the baked goods not carried anywhere else. . . this is where you can find them. I have a teenager who is obsessed with all things Asian. We are not remotely Asian ( Irish and German) , but I was born in San Francisco to adventurous parents who had lived in Hawaii and Korea, so this is likely my fault. My first memory is eating dim sum with chopsticks at about age 2. My kid, well. She loves anime, manga, cosplay, Kumoricon, uwajimaya, chopsticks, sushi, Sanrio, etc. She is all in. And the latest obsession is Filipino junk food which she is exploring with passionate 16 year old determination. The favorites are cheese rings, sort of a sweeter o shaped cheeto, and honey butter flavored potato chips. The latter sounds awful but they are strangely addictive. ( They are loaded with msg and sugar though, tbh). This little store has a junk food aisle teeming with goodies and even though my kid didn't find the cheese rings she did find the honey chips for less than she's purchased them elsewhere AND " in bigger bags, Mom!" And it is closer to our house. Nice people too. She will be needing a job to support this snack habit (and the cosplay). She wants to come back to try the halo halo and other goodies that we didn't try today. And I will be filling our fridge with superfoods trying to counteract the snacks which she calls "the yummies!!!!" Oh boy. The parking lot is a hot mess, be warned. read more

The U-Need Asian Market is yet *another* ethnic grocery, this one chock-a-block with everything from the Far East, from sauces to snacks, rice to condiments. Families strolled through while I was taking photos, the kids happily selecting sweets, the mothers picking up and chatting about staples, whilst the fathers hung by the front door, managing the mayhem. This is a charming market with some good finds. I stopped in here looking for noodles to stock the pantry for this quarantine period because I didn't have time to go to my normal Asian market. Tucked away in a dark corner of a strip mall, this place proves to be a ray of sunshine! They sell most of your Flipino grocery items, snacks, frozen food etc. They also sell some baked items, kakanin and the occasional ulam. read more

This is a Mom & Pop store that sells predominantly Filipino products. It is small, about the size of a typical convenience store, and is quite clean. They are located at the corner of NE 185th Street and Baseline Street in the strip mall where the Goodwill Store is located. Signage from the parking lot is not visible thus one could easily miss the store. They are located in the eastern corner of the strip mall next to a Taekwondo school and a tattoo place. It looks like they've replaced a previous Asian store since the lighted signage from the parking lot shows "B & K Asian store" but when you walk to the location you'll see their non-descript sign "U-need Asian Store." They sell a variety of packaged food products from the Philippines - from canned goods, bottled sauces, frozen cured meat/fish products and frozen fruits/vegetables. They also have a variety of baked products from hopia to pan de sal, package baked goods and cookies, and they serve Boba Tea and to our big surprise - really good halo-halo! If anything, it's worth making the trip for their halo-halo. I was very impressed by the cleanliness because many Asian stores are not known for this. They opened in April 2015 thus are relatively new. Let's hope they can keep the cleanliness as this would be a plus. I would highly recommend them for Asian and Philippine products. Pinoys in Beaverton-Hillsboro area need to visit and support this store. I'm sure they will not be disappointed. read more

Bought some snacks before, it was not fresh - With tons of food supplies in this store -- they have to be really good at inventory and storage - First In and First Out. If the food is expired or nearing expiration -- the owner have to get rid of those items; otherwise, first time buyers will get discouraged and not come back which would result in more supplies not being bought and getting staled. The lady that mans the store is friendly and always smiling, which is a plus. IF they could lower their price a little more to compete with the other Asian store, that would help. read more
