I went into this location today and I was disappointed by the experience. I came here because I've heard that poke bowls were good and since this place was closest to me, I decided to give it a try. I walked in and the store was nearly empty, with only one customer ahead of me who was also a first-time customer just like me and was asking the guy questions about their sauces and etc. After a couple minutes of me waiting, another couple walked in behind me and that's when a woman came out of the kitchen to help with the line. Despite there barely being customers, the woman rushed through the interaction and was rushing me. When I wanted to ask questions (y'know to make sure I make a bowl that's actually edible), she had an attitude as if I was a bother. Any word I spoke was met with "what else. what else. what else." I was genuinely confused because obviously business is slow if they have to give a deal for a free can of soda if someone orders a bowl after 5pm. You need customers. Just from the way she handled me, it made me uncomfortable and no longer interested in trying out anything they had to offer. I ended up leaving without anything from there and went a little further down to "The Dough Show" for my lunch break and the service (and food) was excellent. read more

Not my absolute favorite poke place but to be fair, I think there's about 4 on Fowler alone. It's pretty small and underrated, honestly, and there's so many food options in that plaza that I think it gets overlooked a lot. The fish is usually really fresh but this most recent time I had a couple of odd pieces. Just stronger than usual? But there's a great variety of options for bases, mix ins, and sauces and as someone who really loves to customize my poke bowls, I absolutely love that. I do wish they had more variety for drinks, or at least had them where they were able to be reached. The server either didn't hear or didn't understand my request and I just sort of let it go once I got to the table and realized I hadn't gotten one. U Poke Spot is absolutely delicious! This was actually where I first tried poke, many years ago. The bowls are the perfect size, fish is FRESH, and overall, all the flavors mesh so well + not too saucy, which are all very important to curate the perfect bowl! The Hawaiian bowl is my favorite, though I do like to get custom bowl from time to time. Staff is also super sweet, helpful, & kind. They have seating inside to eat & to go is always an option. I was really thrilled to find UPoke Spot online, when I was searching for poke bowls at a reasonable bowl. I was pleasantly surprised to find a bowl that costs $12.95, which is a bargain compared the $20 bowls I have purchased in the past I ordered a "design your own bowl/ w two scoops of protein. I ordered a base of white rice with two scoops of spicy tuna, cucumber, mandarin segments, edamame, spicy mayo and mango sauce. I am happy to report that it was delicious! Location: very easy to find, in the same plaza as Einstein Bagel's on East Fowler. Cleanliness: 4/5 Service: 3/5 (felt a bit rushed, but this may be necessary for efficiently serving people when it is busy). Quality of food: 4/5 Value for money: 5/5 (good portion size for a reasonable price). I will definitely be back to try their sushi burritos which are under $10. I found this quaint little poke restaurant on Yelp and had a strong craving for some fresh food on my business trip. The restaurant is in a nice little strip mall and was very clean and bright inside. The menu was easy to understand and the staff were all so friendly and helpful. I noticed this establishment a few months ago while eating at Einstein. I initially thought it was a store for Pokemon merchandise and never felt like checking it out. I looked it up on Yelp and was surprised to learn it was a Chipotle style restaurant. I can sum it up as Sushi mashed up into a customizable bowl. You pick your size of bowl and then your proteins which are different types of fish , chicken then rice or lettuce as a base,then various toppings,sauces. With the exception of avocado and 1 other item, all the toppings/sauces are all included in the price which is very cool. Note: The rice is hot and the fish is cold. This may turn some people off,but most people shouldn't be turned away. The employee was very patient when it came to my thousand questions. They have a fountain soda with Coke drinks. For 11-12 bucks ,you get a very filling meal. I'm a big guy and I was stuffed. Some people could maybe even have left overs from one bowl. What's nice is that the full feeling is different than than say Indian food buffet where your blood sugars go over 9000! I'm glad that the USF area is getting more cool restaurants. I would have been sure this place would be located on MacDill or Howard Ave,but I'm glad to be wrong. They're open till 11 pm on Fri/Sat which is rare for Tampa. The only negative about this place is subjective and minor..The tan wood furniture is a bit bland and makes it look like it's unfinished. It is clean as is the bathroom. I started out with a bowl with two proteins - one serving of tuna and one serving of salmon, but when I saw that the portion of each was on the smaller side, I opted to upgrade to a three protein bowl, and add in a second helping of tuna. And that turned out to be a wise move on my part, because there was so much goodness sitting on the other side of the food bar, that I couldn't help myself but go a little crazy. If I hadn't tacked on the extra poke, it might have been hard to even notice the fish, buried under my excessive amount of toppings. As I was going through the line and ordering all of the add-ons, it got to a point where I actually kind of felt embarrassed. Was I actually ordering the largest amount of toppings in the history of U Poke Spot? On one hand, it feels like it might be possible, but on the other hand, who could resist all of these delights? Second pick your protein tuna, salmon, chicken, octopus, crab salad. Third pick your ingredients. Fourths pick your sauces and last pick your topping. If you pick the wrong thing, it is your fault. No body to blame. Overall l like to have this U pick restaurant. A few things the restaurant can improve is to have the ingredients and sauce mixed before join the poke bowl. This is okay to me. I think it's nice to be able to pick your own toppings, but u really don't know what is extra and what's not. The reason is because u see all the toppings, but they are not labeled and u have to ask, what is that and that, etc. By the time, you are finished that surely awesome customized bowl has added up. I opted for the Hawaiian bowl. I had add in's and of course it added up to like um, Maybe $16 or 17 I'm pretty sure. That's way too much and guess what, I only had one protein. I was especially impressed that seaweed salad and orange flying fish eggs were included as a basic ingredient, if one so desired (which I did). Since they had a ton of sauces to choose from, and I didn't know any of them, I took two on the side. My favorite was their standard poke sauce. The interior was clean and bright, and the workers were conscientious about wiping tables down. They do offer pre-made bowl options too, if picking your own ingredients doesn't appeal. I was at Busch Gardens for the morning and knew I HAD to stop at U Poke Spot while I was on the USF side of town. I had been to the shopping center that U Poke Spot is located at dozens of times while at college so it was easy for me to find. My immediate reaction when I walked in was that this establishment is clean and bright. There were many options to choose from on the menu including a poke rice bowl, a poke burrito or a poke salad. There were both "build your own" and already concocted options to choose from. I went with the build your own poke rice bowl and chose the large option to split with my boyfriend. We went through the line choosing all of our toppings and were pleasantly surprised with the bowl. It was enough for two people to share (we weren't starving though). All of the ingredients were fresh and tasty. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because it was good, but wasn't need to go back asap great. You get to decide if you want rice, salad or in a burrito, choose 2 or 3 proteins, add your veggies, sauce and your crunch. I had Ahi tuna with salmon with brown rice. So filling and delicious. Both of the proteins were so fresh and tasted great. They have adequate seating as well if you want to sit there and eat or you can take it to go, or call in your order and pick up. My classmates and I decided to check out U Poke Spot today, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. U Poke Spot is line style poke where you can either pick one of the pre-chosen ingredient bowls or you can build your own. Today, I built my own. You choose your base (white or brown rice, nachos, or salad) and choose whether you want a regular (2 proteins) or large (3 proteins). After that, you can choose from a variety of toppings (seaweed salad, crab salad, tomatoes, fish eggs, I had a regular bowl with spicy tuna and spicy salmon with practically all the toppings and the house spicy sauce (highly recommend). Avocado is a dollar extra. Now to the fun part, the actual food. All of the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. Side note: I couldn't even finish the regular size. U Poke spot provided a nutritious, flavor packed meal right across the street from USF. It is tucked away in a plaza with Einstein's off of Fowler Avenue. Highly recommend U Poke. Small but quaint place to get some poke bowl. We love to have any kind of poke bowl, as we are huge fans and this place didn't disappoint! You can either choose your own ingredients and make your own bowl, or choose from the menu which has predetermined ingredients. I chose the Yummy bowl, which was: Spicy tuna, krab delight, seaweed salad, sweet onion, carrot, cucumber, fish eggs, avocado, sriracha aioli, wasabi aioli, and tempura flake over a bed of white rice. I could've chosen brown rice but went with white. I added just a touch of soy sauce which put the flavor over the top. It was delicious. Ingredients were fresh and tasty! It had a great balance of spice and crunch to offset the consistency of the tuna and rice. My wife did a "pick your own ingredients" bowl and for the most part she picked the same thing I had with a few minor adjustments. She was also thoroughly impressed. Oh, why did I not come to this place sooner ? Funny thing is, I did when it first opened, but was hesitant once I came in and decided to walk out . Well I'm glad I finally decided to give them a try. All the flavors came together beautifully and everything from the base, to the toppings, to the proteins just really complimented each other nicely. What's even better is that their prices are affordable. I was surprised to see my total only come up to $11.88. For the quality and the portion, it was definitely worth it. I love the 4 proteins on top of everything. My favs are the octopus, the spicy tuna, albacore, and scallops tho the sauce they cover it in... ehhhhh. Also, The prices seem to fluctuate depending on what each person wants to charge you as extras and that probably has something to do with why they are rotating staff so much. The guy who was making my food may have been new since he seemed confused when I asked for the side. He thought I wanted it on top of the poke bowl, but I let him know it's a side on the menu. The Hawaiian Poke Bowl looked delicious, but when I got it home and started to dig in I realized it was really lacking flavor. The Hawaiian Bowl is supposed to be spicy and there was no heat at all. Every now and then I would hit something tasty but overall it was kind of bland. The seaweed salad tasted like it should and was good. After looking at my receipt when I got home, I realized they didn't charge me for the seaweed salad so I'm not sure if this is the real side portion or not. First timer- trying it out after my brother has raved about this place. It's not the usual that you're used to but if you are looking to try something new then I say go for it.
