Our initial experience purchasing the vehicle was positive. We were treated respectfully and…read moreeveryone we interacted with was professional. However, the loan provider never received the title to the vehicle we purchased. When I reached out to Tom's Auto several times to resolve the issue and showed up in person I was given the runaround and even laughed at for being concerned that I had paid off a vehicle and had no title for it. I don't even think they tried to locate the title or investigate what happened. It was a huge hassle. I was told by the loan provider that this is a common occurrence with Tom's Auto, though I've read reviews about them from different platforms and have not seen anything pertaining to this particular issue. After spending time making phone calls to Tom's and the loan provider and being told to go to the DOT and then to go to the county treasurer I did have the issue resolved at the treasurers office. I did get the title to my vehicle. It was very frustrating and unnecessary to have to deal with this. All because the documents were mishandled.

I knew that there would be a few things that would likely need replaced soon due to having 200k miles. We made a list and purchased parts for everything that goes bad around this mileage. No problem at all and I absolutely love this purchase! This is an as-is dealership. In my opinion, if you're looking for a turn-key vehicle that's going to be perfect for you for years to come with zero maintenance required - go buy something brand new. I see a lot of reviews that seem to think Tom's is responsible for their used, high mileage, low-priced vehicle having issues. Do your own research and know the common issues the vehicle you're buying has at the mileage you're purchasing it at. Then decide if it's worth the cost to fix those things after purchasing. I had a great experience, it was so fast and easy.

Car City - The lie.. the only key and fabricated stories of this phantom partnering key or 2nd key.

Car City

I am extremely disappointed & dissatisfied with my experience at Car City in Des Moines Iowa off of…read moreMerle Rd for this cars sale on Jan 8th 2026, and I feel compelled to warn other Consumers about their deeply unprofessional and unethical business practices. At the time of purchase, both the owner Darby and the salesperson explicitly represented that a second key was included and assured me it would be sent to me right away. Afterwards that the money was sent and this representation being a key factor in my decision to move forward with the purchase. What followed was a frustrating series of excuses, contradictions, and outright fabrications. I was told vague stories about "a guy named Joe" supposedly having the key, only to be given the runaround, hung up on, and sent on a complete goose chase that wasted a lot of my time and patience. Ultimately, the promised key never materialized, and I am now being told that replacing this high tech 2021 M5 key through the Dealer will cost approximately a bit over $1,000--a cost that exists solely because Car City failed to honor their word or simply find whats now pointless cost/ expenditure. This is not a minor oversight; it is a clear case of misrepresentation. The lack of accountability, professionalism, and basic integrity shown throughout this process is unacceptable. A dealership that conducts business this way should not be trusted. I strongly advise potential buyers to get everything in writing and to think twice before dealing with Car City. Buyer Beware seriously. This dealership will promise you anything it takes to close the sale and then vanish like Casper the ghost the moment the paperwork is signed. Their word means absolutely nothing. They rely on deceptive tactics, including slipping a so-called "one-pager" - "No Promise" into the paperwork that conveniently attempts to nullify every verbal commitment they made to you minutes earlier. It's a calculated maneuver designed to give them cover later so they can claim they "never promised anything." All the while telling you it's on its way. This is not an honest mistake or miscommunication -- it's a pattern of behavior meant to mislead customers and dodge responsibility after the deal is done. If you choose to do business with Car City, assume every promise will be broken, every follow-up will be ignored, and every issue will suddenly become your problem. Get every single detail in writing, read every line twice, and understand that once they have your money, their integrity disappears completely. Bottom line: even if in writing, it doesn't exist at Car City. Expect promises to vanish the moment they have your money. This dealership talks a good game until the sale is complete. After that, accountability disappears and excuses begin. This dealership operates on misrepresentation, excuses, and denial. If integrity matters to you, do not do business here...

The vehicle arrived on time, and I was notified it was ready to test drive. My sales rep was Andrew Nyongi and I can't say enough great things about that young man. He was responsive, caring, thorough, and just a joy to do business with. We test drove the car and it was perfection! A few days later, we arrived to purchase it. The whole process took less than 30 minutes. Best car buying experience we have EVER had! Based on this interaction, I would not hesitate one bit to purchase another vehicle here. The car drives like a dream and we cannot wait to take it on a nice long road trip. I will try to update this review every so often to inform of any issues, or hopefully, no issues at all.

The sales associate that helped me when my partner and I first walked in was very friendly. They confirmed my appointment and instructed me to sit down and someone would be with me in (this is important), NO TIME at all. My partner and I sat down and I looked around the store, envisioning a great experience. The entire building was clean, well staffed, and bright. I noticed most employees sitting at their desks or speaking to one another, so I thought 'wow, maybe I'll be helped right away!' Oh, how silly this assumption of mine was. Fast forward FORTY MINUTES LATER, several other customers are waiting while employees are chilling in the break room and chatting with each other at their desks. One customer is being helped by another sales associate. Let me remind you, this is 6:30 p.m. on a Thursday night. We ended up leaving at about 6:40 p.m. Why make an appointment when you have to wait nearly an hour to be helped? I'm usually not an unreasonable person. I'm not a Karen, and I understand employees should be allowed downtime. But it's just so frustrating to have to wait for that long when you see the store virtually empty, and you made an appointment.

Steve came highly recommended by our friends, Jim and Darcey Widmann, and now we know why. After shopping all over Des Moines for a truck, we encountered dealerships that either patronized us, hassled us, or made us feel like we didn't know what we were talking about. Some even tried to convince us that we couldn't get what we wanted. But when we walked into Toyota of Des Moines, it was a completely different experience. From the moment we were greeted, we felt welcomed and respected. Steve allowed us to choose the vehicle we wanted without any hassle. Every incentive was explained upfront, and the level of transparency was refreshing. What truly set them apart was their willingness to meet our needs on the trade-in. We were told by a Ford dealer (who originally sold us the Bronco) that we could never get the trade-in value we wanted, but Toyota gave us exactly what we asked for--no questions asked. Steve and the entire team at Toyota of Des Moines worked with urgency, respect, and professionalism to finalize the deal in a way that left us completely satisfied. This level of customer care and attention to our needs is what made us feel valued. Toyota of Des Moines embodies what it means to be a true car dealership. We are now proud Toyota brand loyalists and look forward to a lifetime of Toyota ownership, provided the company continues to deliver on its promise of quality in both manufacturing and sales. If you're out there shopping for a vehicle and struggling to find a dealership that truly listens and puts the customer first, look no further than Toyota of Des Moines. Thank you, Steve Henigan, and the entire team--you have earned our loyalty!
