This review is about Marieta. I hope I spelled her name correctly! Amazing lady who went above and beyond to help me process my daughter's Passport application. The night before I made copies of our ID's and Drivers License and the next day my husband realized he had not put his ID back in his wallet. Marieta was beyond patient as my husband went back home to retrieve his ID. Getting a passport is exhausting and you have to make sure you have every document you need in place. I have gotten passports at other USPS offices and they are not as helpful. This USPS office was very quiet and not busy at all. The other worker who was there was so polite and helpful as well as people kept coming in. Thank you for your patience and kindness. Marieta, I appreciate you!!!!!! Horrible, referring to Northlake IL 60164 office. They used to have two (2) drive-up mailboxes outside the post office. Quick and convenient. NOW, both of those have been removed and the only outside box is next to the front doors and requires that you get OUT of your car, for example if raining or extremely cold, and drop it in the box. Color me surprised that I am not only writing a review for the USPS, but it is positive. I needed some stamps to have on hand to mail out the postcards I will be sending to my Yelp folks. This place was on the way to an off-site meeting, so I stopped in. As I walked through the revolving door, I was immediately greeted in a very pleasant manner by a woman who was helping a gentlemen with a Priority envelope. She asked if she could help me with a request and what I was in need of. I said stamps and she directed me to the front counter, where I was again pleasantly greeted by the woman behind the counter. She asked how she could help me, I said I needed stamps and she proceeded to ask me what kind I wanted. She showed me the different types I could get and I made my choice. I was in and out in less than 5-7 minutes. Both complimented on my outfit, which was cute by the way. And they both wished me a great day. I never have a problem when I go into the Post Office. Other's have issues, but if you know exactly what you want to accomplish before you go in, there's no problem. They're not the happiest workers there, but they get the job done. This time I went in for forever stamps and I was in and out in probably under 5 minutes, while others were still filling out the paperwork. Best route is to purchase your labels online and then you can hand directly to your mailman/woman at your doorstep. I've even left notes asking the postmaster to take the package from my doorstep. Never any problems. Like I said before the office location itself is no glamorous place to work, so I can understand how they're not the happiest people. I'm sure they deal constantly these days with everyone who doesn't know how to mail items and I can see how that be frustrating, I'm sure. Props to my mailman though and also know another mailman in Melrose who delivers to our business and he's fantastic and happy as well! read more

They are a piece of garbage. We go with no mail for days and then a boatload the next. My mail is ALWAYS slightly opened !!!!!! You call there and they act like it's no problem. I just had a package from eBay delivered by the post office. It says FRAGILE on it. Where was it delivered??????? Thrown in the bushes next to my front porch !!!! I have had a history of problems with this post office. Parking all four wheels of their truck on my lawn. (I was told by the driver "safety first"). Really? That issue was resolved. Now the carrier has thrown my mail in the bushes instead of my mailbox. This has to be one of the worst post offices. Hard to imagine how these people were hired and retained by the USPS. I shipped a package from my address to my daughter in Texas. It cost me $50 to ship the package I boxed it up and taped it up good. When it arrives at her home in Texas the box was busted open and items were missing.I had shipped her a sewing machine, a food dehydrator, some close, and bath bombs from when she saw here last Christmas. $50 was not enough to pay in shipping to insure the package for the value inside. The dehydrator was missing and also the bath bombs. I tried to file a claim with the post office and I had to sit on hold for an hour and a half to get a hold of them over the phone. FYI ( keep track of your receipt because without the receipt or tracking number they cannot find your package)that means they can't use your address your name or shipping address, and in my case the tracking number was ripped off the box.The first time I tried I was to call I was disconnected after 45 minutes on hold. The second time I tried there was an issue with their system and they couldn't document my claim. The third time after another hour and 15 minutes wait they took my information and gave me a case number. They said they would call me back. I received a automated call a few days later saying that my case was being reviewed and someone would call me. Then a couple days after that they call me and tell me that I have to file a claim online and that I must take my package in the original box I shipped it in to the post office. Who keeps their box the same way that it is for a whole week? Needless to say the original packaging was long gone at that point my daughter was already using her sewing machine and had put away clothes that she had in her box as well. After I had waited a week they tell me that the original number that I received was not a claim number but only a case number. Why a week delay between calls? I will never use the US postal service for deliveries again. Last year I shipped my daughter an art desk and paid over $100 shipping and the box was destroyed aswell luckily there was foam insulation that protected the desk from being damaged. Overall I think that the US postal service is a very poor delivery service. If you want your package delivered on damaged use someone else. read more

I brought an envelope into the post office to mail to California and paid extra to make sure it was right, It took the post office over 50 days to return it to me with a $3.35 postage due. Also they can't seem to avoid putting my neighbors mail in my mailbox. Also I've been told people sent stuff to me which I still haven't received after 3 weeks. For those of you who are leaving reviews regarding packages, YOUR package is sitting at DHL, located in Melrose Park, IL. NOT the Melrose Park post office! Use that exact same tracking number and go to www.usps.com to track these packages. Which will tell you your package is not in possession of the postal service. Not these 3rd party sites, that is giving you inaccurate tracking updates. -Shipping label created -Arrived at shipping partner facility... Does not mean your package is at the Melrose Park post office. Theses companies that you all are ordering from use DHL and other carrier services for cheap postage. Whom weeks later process theses packages and tender them over to the postal service for final delivery. These packages are not EXPRESS, PRIORITY, REGISTERED, CERTIFIED, 1st class or Ground. These are the mailing options the Post Office offer and process directly. Any other type of postage is through another vendor. It's not the post office who's holding on to your package! read more

She said that you had to have an appointment while just telling me she takes walk-ins if they have no customers. They just didn't want to do their job. Dropped off my phone at mail box, on north and 19th MELROSE Park. I was returning a damaged phone back to the insurance company and it never got scanned, which mean the carrier stoled the phone. I first off would like to say that I was a mail carrier before becoming a police officer and I would never (nor would my post master allow) treat our customers the way the clerks or carriers treat people at the Melrose Park post office and on their routes. I have ordered items I need for work on line and unfortunately I am often starting work before the post office opens, and leaving work when they are closed. I am therefore not home to receive my items. I have requested and instructed the carrier via posts and letters, and signs to LEAVE my package or ring any doorbell in my building because I know EVERYONE in my building. Of course I get no support. The carriers are all "temp" employees and seldom the same person every day of the week and if you do encounter them, they will often tell you one thing leading you to believe your issue has been resolved, and then the following day blindsides you with the same results. I am at the point where I have to contact sellers on line to instruct them to NOT use the Postal Service at an extra cost. That is a shame. I think it is safe to say that society is ready for the postal service to be disbanded. EVERY review is a one star "poor customer service" review. Good job Postal Service. read more

It's very rare that I give negative reviews to businesses, but this is one of the few I feel the need to comment about. Please note I am not familiar with Melrose Park IL, so I'm not sure if the town has more than one post office. The one I've had this experience with multiple times is the one that deals with Amazon shipments. The Amazon seller I often deal with initially ships with DHL eCommerce. DHL lists the items as 'tendered to USPS' in Melrose Park, and that is where the tracking info ends. The post office evidently does not bother to scan the items when they're received, nor when they leave the post office. So I have no idea of packages' whereabouts until they land in my mailbox. As for the current item, the DHL site states it was given to the post office on Nov. 5 at 2:14 a.m. The USPS site, however, has no update since Nov. 3, when the package was still in Georgia- 'USPS awaiting item.' While this type of situation has occurred quite a few times, the one time I tried to call the Melrose Park post office I found the phone was out of order. I really think they should wake up and do their jobs. read more

We live in Berkeley, illinois . We have not received any mail delivery from the Hillside Post Office since 01/04/2014. It is now 01/09/2014. People in Elmwood Park got mail 01/07/2014 so it seems the Postal Service is selectivly delivering the mail to some people and holding other peoples mail hostage. We want our mail delivered every day that other people in the vicinity are getting their mail! My neighbors are also upset about our lack of delivery so I told them I would send an e-mail concerning this lack of customer service. read more

I had a bad experience here. The Indian man that works the front for passports is the most lazy person I have ever met in the post office. The bad thing is that he works at the one in Northlake and Melrose. He wasted 2 days on giving me the correct information about the passport process. He rolled his eyes when he noticed I was there for passport. He is rude, lazy and ignorant. I have made literally 15 calls complaining about the postal truck parked - all 4 tires - way up on my lawn in wet warm weather - creating ruts and killing the grass...
