Walking into the store you see some great examples of products made from the old wood, but when you walk into the back with all the wood, it is like seeing behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz...and the smell of old wood.....amazing. Over promise and under deliver is an understatement for this business. Don't be fooled by those positive reviews. Dig deep, review the rest and save yourself the trouble, the money and a visit by the police. My wife and I hired Ben to build a custom bar for us. Ben assured us he had been doing this for over 30-years and could not only build the bar, but additional cabinets and shelves. We took the bait. 3-weeks after purchasing the slab, we stopped by Ben's shop to assess the progress. Come to find out the slab still sitting in the same place it was 3-weeks earlier. Ben explained that the nearly $2000 we paid for the wood was not an "official" deposit and that he needed half of the entire balance to begin the work. This was the first we had heard of this, but paid the deposit, to begin the work. At this time, we specifically directed Ben to have the "live-edge" of the wood facing up, so it would be visible when sitting at the bar. You know where this is going. 4-weeks later, my wife and I dropped in to monitor progress. Much to our dismay, the bar had been fabricated with the "live-edge" of the wood facing down, completely non-visible when sitting at the bar. After first denying that we had requested the "live edge" to be facing up, Ben said he built it this way to provide more bar counter space. This may have been true, but that's not what we asked for. After a relatively heated discussion, Ben agreed to flip the wood and redo it the way we had requested. Up until now, we had been dealing with Ben's Dr. Jekyll and were soon to meet the real Ben, Mr. Hyde. Fast forward another 2-weeks, we received a call on Friday letting us know our bar, cabinets and shelves were complete and ready for pick-up. I arranged for the bar to be picked up the following Monday morning. I stopped by Saturday afternoon to pick-up the shelves. This is when we started to realize there is absolutely no quality control behind Ben's work product. One of the pieces of wood, though dimensionally correct, was bowed, curved and twisted. The four remaining shelves were cut to different widths. We had requested 1 ¾ inches in height. All four were just under or just over 2". Each of the four were also bowed, so would not lay flat and were completely unusable. I put weights on the long shelving unit over the remainder of the weekend with hopes they would remove the bow. They did not. We called the shop Monday morning to confirm our 9:30 AM pick-up, as well as to discuss the issues with the items we had picked up over the weekend. We were told that Ben wouldn't be in until 11:00. I arrived around 1:00 and was told Ben was running late and that he wasn't expected until 1:40. Ben finally arrived around 2:00. I shared my displeasure with the shelves. To which Ben responded "That's not my problem. What do you want me to do about it? I can fix it, but I'll need to charge you for it." Charge me for it? How about do it right the first time? After a heated discussion, Ben told me to get the "F" out of his shop or he would call the police. To, which I welcomed the call. This of course was a huge waste of time for 3 Sheriffs and our taxpayer dollars. Turns out, I should have cut my losses and walked away. Adding to the misshapen items we had picked up was a cabinet that was too long, not level, had shelving holes drilled that were not the right size or level. Plus, the paint had already begun to chip. If I had purchased these items from Overstock or IKEA and not paid top dollar for them, I would have been more accepting. At least Overstock and IKEA have customer support and a return policy. Adding insult to injury, Ben recommended an installer, who quoted us $2000 to pick-up and install our items. In Ben's world, "installation" equates to fixing Ben's poor workmanship. With Ben, you get what you get, you don't throw a fit and he gets your money. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM US RECLAIMED! I will preface this by saying that we have bought thousands of dollars worth of furniture from various vendors/designers and have never had any issues with service or product in the past. I have also literally never taken the time to write a Yelp review. I went into this store with a photo of what I wanted our mantel to look like. I chose a piece of wood with a sales associate and she told me that they would make the piece look like the photo I had. I gave the dimensions of what I needed along with a photo of what I wanted the end product to look like. The associate confirmed that the piece I chose could be made to look like the photo. I paid the entire bill upfront (big mistake) and the associate stapled my photo inspiration to the invoice/order. What was delivered to my house was a straight up LOG from a forest that looked NOTHING like the photo they told me it would look like. Ben and his team have TERRIBLE customer service - they told me it was my fault for choosing the piece of wood. If I wanted a log I would have gone to the forest and just chopped down a tree to put above my fireplace. I wanted a wooden mantel which is why I came to this place - to choose a piece of wood that would be made into a mantel like the photo that they confirmed they would do. Ben initially refused to take the log back - while our contractor stood outside the store trying to return it. He also hung up on my husband when he called to discuss. They eventually agreed to make the same piece we originally ordered --- but only after charging us a 30% re-stock fee and and additional fee to make the piece. Do yourself a favor and read the many reviews on here that say the same thing - avoid this place at all costs! Ben likes to say it's a good ol "family run business" - what a joke! read more

My wife and I recently finished remodeling our house, and had the misfortune of buying our mantle from U.S. Reclaimed. Several months ago, my wife went into the store and showed Ben and his team pictures of exactly what we wanted for our new mantle, which was a rectangular wood mantle to go above our new fireplace. They assured us that they could make the piece and that it would include mounting hardware for our contractors to mount the mantle. Our contractors picked the mantle up and brought it to our house, and it was not mantle. Instead, we were given what looked like a circular, uneven, and unfinished log. It was in no way, shape, or form ANYTHING like what my wife showed them or what they discussed making for us. My wife immediately called the store and they took no responsibility for their screw-up and were extremely rude and nasty to my wife on the phone. I called next and was hung up on after telling the woman who answered the phone who I was and that I wanted to speak with the owner Ben. We sent our contractor back to the store with the unfinished log where they refused to take it back. After much back and forth, they then offered to take it back with a ridiculous restocking fee. The other option offered was that we could return the unfinished log and get a credit for a portion of what we already paid to be put toward what we had originally ordered. We ultimately had them make what we originally ordered, which ended up being double the price it should have been and six weeks behind schedule. Bottom line, Ben and his team are unethical, rude, and take no responsibility for any of their mistakes. I would never buy anything from them again. I hope this review and the many other reviews detailing similar experiences causes you to give your business to other companies who treat their customers well and stand by their work because Ben and his team certainly don't! read more

To begin with, U.S. Reclaimed was nice enough to let me take home a wood shelf sample, along with a $20 deposit. I tried it at home and liked the look. I ordered 2 simple reclaimed wooden floating shelves for my kitchen from this business. I also needed a total of 4 holes drilled in order to affix the shelves to the wall prongs. I explained my posts (prongs) were square, not round and I gave the measurements for drilling the holes. Ben, the owner, told me it "will take a couple of weeks" and I said "So 2 weeks then?" After not hearing from them for 3 weeks, I called and was told a worker was out on baby-leave, so it left them short handed. I continued to call every few days and finally 4 weeks later I got an email to retrieve my shelves. The holes came back ROUND although I specifically gave instructions on the square size of the attachment prongs. Also the holes were off by an inch, so they wouldn't have fit anyhow. To be fair, I certainly could have been off on my measurements! So I go back to U.S. Reclaimed wood today and tell Ben my predicament. He says "we have no way to drill square holes" (how about just making them bigger so that they'd fit the square prongs?) and he handed me a business card of a handyman, apparently whom I'll have to pay extra to get the hole sizes correct. The wood is beautiful, I must say. But the job was not completed as requested and no offer was made to rectify the problem. I don't think it is pain-staking work to enlarge and correct the drilled holes. Anyhow, not a very good customer service. We all have choices and I won't be recommending this company to anyone. read more

It is highly recommended an alternative is chosen. The customer service by Ben, the owner, is far below what is expected from someone who loves providing their products and services to the public. My wife and I were shocked at how we were treated and spoken to by him while trying to remedy an issue that was clearly an oversight of theirs. We cannot believe that a store with this level of customer service can exist or remain in business along our south Orange County coast and local community. This place is awesome and the owner is super nice! I went in with a pallet I found in the trash can at Ralphs, a few pictures from Pinterest, my 8 year old and my 4 year old daughters and an hour to make my vision come to life. I wanted to make a bar that would hang on the wall where my husband can store his alcohol and also it has a little shelf he can pour his drinks at it. This thing came out amazing!!! I asked Ben if he could help me make the cuts and attach them to my pallet. It was a surprise gift for my husband bday and I am so stoked I found this place. I took my finished bar to Home Depot to get some copper pipes for it and I was stopped at least 5 times. People loved the reclaimed wood I got and everyone wanted to know where I got it. I never thought that I would be writing a review on yelp for a place that sells wood: that's how terrible this place is. I never thought there would be value in using yelp to assess service at a place that sells--wood!. I was wrong on both accounts. If one would look at the bad reviews of US Reclaimed Wood, there is a common thread--bad customer service and the owner, Ben. Apparently you can't have one without the other. Suffice it to say me and my business partner dealt with Ben: I bet you already know how this story is going to end so I will just fill in the beginning and the middle. Needed wood for a wall, a kit. Instead U.S. Reclaimed Wood, sold my business partner a pile of dirty, uncut wood (some planks were 16 feet in length), with nails in it. Obviously there was some sort of miscommunication. No big deal. I am easy going. I just wanted to exchange the wood for a kit, but then BEN intervened. Not only was he condescending , he wanted a $300 restock fee. Really? Did I fail to mention that we had to wait two weeks for the install because the installer that they recommended was on paternity leave. Because me and my business partner did not want to penalize someone for becoming a father, we waited while our wall for a business remained embarrassingly naked. What should have taken days to complete has taken weeks to begin. What should have been a happy moment for me and my business partner was simply a complete waste of time and money, with a healthy dose of frustration and anger. Our endeavor to shop local, to support a neighboring business, backfired. No good deed goes unpunished I guess. If you have a lot of money to burn, time to waste, a need to raise your blood pressure or purge yourself of your sanity, I highly recommend that you shop here: you will not be disappointed. Ask for BEN. Dissatisfaction Guaranteed. P.S. BEN thinks that once he gets your money that you have no recourse. Wrong. When I am done here, onto Google, Facebook, and Instagram. I decided to check out a few reclaimed wood stores in orange county for an upcoming project I am doing during a major remodel. I went to this store and had to deal with the owner and agree with other reviewers that his personality was less than impressive. I felt that the store lacked some of the variety and authenticity of other stores and the prices seemed very high. I asked a lot of questions and felt I really got minimal information back. The owner was not overly helpful and I would not see myself investing in their wood. I definitely recommend checking around before you make this your final stop. read more

My experience and dealings with US Reclaimed Wood was less than positive! At first they were very friendly. I went to them for a mantle piece. I ended up having one made, and that is when my trouble began! Every service was extra money. I measured for my mantle with a contractor myself. Then, I called them with the measurements. Later to find out, because I never received an invoice with the measurements on it... that they were written down on a yellow paper pad. I also emailed pictures of my decor so they knew I needed a darker mantle piece for the "ledge" of it. You paid half to them to begin with and half when it was completed (very expensive). So when I first was going to pick it up it was too light in color. Next, time I picked it up it appeared to be ok, until I took it home. On taking it home and holding it up to fireplace it was the incorrect size by 6 inches!!! When I confronted Bethany she stated what the measurement was, and that I had given it to her. I would not have measured in wrong, plus I had a professional measure it for me. She argued with me about this. Then, I measured the piece again and it was off by an inch of what she said "I" gave her. Of course, she had a reason for that too. Bottom line, there was no customer service rapport to compromise at all... There seemed to an extreme lack of understanding on their part of what I was saying. Not to mention my experience was that every message, phone call, etc. was miscommunicated and not understood by them. I was going to get another mantle piece from them, but every time my messages were not accurate. Finally, I went in, yet again to tell them what I wanted, with it miscommunicated once again .. And my gut said don't do it. I told them exactly that ... That I felt like every communication with them had been a struggle and wrong ultimately, and that I would have to go elsewhere. Their only comment to me was "ok". It should also be noted that at first they would answer my calls saying "Hi Jan", because they had caller ID. By the end, I had to leave messages that they rarely returned the call, and or e-mails that they took their sweet time answering or not at all. Good customer service would have been, we will try to sell this for you to get your money back, or hey, maybe we wrote it down wrong. Overall, it was a frustrating and horrific experience. I have since gone to another reclaimed place in Lake Forrest, and have had over the top stellar service. Being understood perfectly, and professionally. read more

I recently had two custom entertainment units build by U.S. Reclaimed. I wanted something unique and would fit well in my room. Through out the process of getting the pieces finished, I emailed US several times and they always replied the same day and answered my questions. I found everyone in the business very courteous.  When the units were finished and delivered, both pieces were exactly what I wanted. I am extremely impressed with the workmanship. Both unites are beyond my expectations.The units are 100% solid wood, no short cuts were taken, the workmanship is exceptional.  In the past, I have had custom build furniture done by other companies, and I have to say that this is the first time that my wife and I have been 100% happy with the finished product. read more

We recently had a barn door custom made by Ben at US Reclaimed. It is pretty large (200+ lbs and about 8' x 4'). It is made with reclaimed wood from US Reclaimed. The reverse has a full-length mirror. It looks amazing! Ben and his wife were very helpful. The only issue was that it took a little longer than anticipated. I believe that is because they were very busy and also because our original mirror broke, so they had to wait for a replacement. Other than that, our experience was great. Ben recommended John from Coastal Floors for the install. He also did a great job. I'd recommend US Reclaimed if you are looking for anything involving reclaimed wood. read more
