I'm from California where we have had Uber for quite a while now. I understand it is very new to Portland, and I am nothing short of impressed. My driver, Abel, was prompt, polite, and such a help as far as recommending fun places in the city. I can't say enough great things about the service and driver I experienced while in Portland. It will be my first and my last attempt to ever use Uber again. David from Ann Harbor Michigan who drives Uber in Vancouver Washington, circles around at the wrong address and cancels on me and I get charged for the ride and the cancellation fee. The guy drives a grey Prius and looks like 85 +years old in his profile pic, gets lost at the wrong address. I kept messaging him the home address and still he circles around at the wrong community. Horrible. Thanks Uber for hiring an old guy who doesn't know from left to right and charges me for the ride that never happened and the cancellation fee that was cancelled from the driver. Wow, if I could give zero stars I would. These people don't even earn the default sibgle star. I couldn't find the Uber pickup location at the airport, and the driver was incredibly unhelpful, and so was his manager. After the ride was cancelled, because why would I want to sit alone in a car with someone who treated me so shittily, no call from anyone. They just collected their $5 cancellation fee and moved on. I will NEVER EVER use Uber again, and I will tell everyone I know about how I was treated. I hope these people go out of business. I recommend Lyft. UBER: As many of you know, I travel around the country weekly flying in and out of PDX. I generally use Portland Taxi to go from my home to the airport and Portland Taxi or Union Cab to return home from the airport. I had my first two Uber experiences this week while on business in Temecula California. Here are the facts. I first used Uber to go from my hotel to a restaurant and then another Uber to return to the hotel. It was a very easy and good experience. Once I committed to use Uber, it took the driver about 3 minutes to pick me up. The App shows you the proximity of Uber cars near you based on the GPS map. My first Uber driver was a very polite, friendly and professional young college student who happened to be in Temecula visiting his parents. His Late model Toyota was clean. My fare was $4.68 which was automatically deducted from the credit card attached to my Uber account. No cash changes hands! My second Uber driver was a middle aged German woman who was also friendly, engaging and professional. Her late model Volkswagen was immaculate. When I finally arrived in Portland last night after being re-routed to Seattle for an hour or so, I took a cab home. It took about 15 minutes to get a taxi. My driver barely spoke English and uncommunicative. He had to crack the windows because there was a stench in the filthy, older cab. He also "long routed" me to get a higher fare. These are the facts. I am all for Uber in Portland. It just may make the Taxi companies up their game and improve their service. read more

I used UBER for the first time over the holidays. I will never use them again! I accepted a ride over the holidays and used Uber for a quick $18 ride (4 miles). The app quoted me $18 on the screen. I accepted. No where did it say I was getting a price hike or any changes. No screen or signage popped up. My driver said nothing. I expected an $18 ride. I just recently received my credit card statement. THEY CHARGED ME 4.5 x the rate! ($78.00! for 4 miles!) Nowhere did UBER EVER SAY THEY WERE DOING THAT! This is pure extortion and lying. I contacted them, and they have "cut and paste" answers that someone emails you back. No refund, no customer service. A cab would have been $30. I am doing that next time! There are very few times a driver has scared me while riding in a car. My Uber "driver" ( lives in Oregon City, but comes to Portland to drive.) managed to do just that. His obvious lack of street layout in Portland had him driving the wrong way down a one-way street. To top things off, he kept complaining about the lack of tips driving for Uber. But the straw that broke the back was this guy's confession that his insurance company would cancel him if he got caught driving Uber ( or Lyft). Why is the city allowing these low- insured/ uninsured operators in Portland? It's an lawsuit waiting to happen. read more

Thanks Uber for finally coming to Portland! This is how we always get around when we travel. Seriously - the app is very easy to use and we have had nothing but great experiences with clean cars, friendly drivers and just knowing ahead of time what the pricing will be plus not having to deal with cash exchange or anything of the like... I cannot possibly say enough things. Not having to deal with sketchy cabbies who leave you stranded or overcharge you which is how cab companies in Portland roll. We took our first ride in Portland from the airport in the middle of the night to get home as our plane came in around midnight. A towncar would have cost up around $60-70 and a cab would have been $60. It was $50 with uber for a clean car that showed up five minutes after the request and talk about stress free. read more

Uber does not guarantee your request for a ride will be fulfilled, ever. Drivers are apt to ignore you, for various reasons. Especially if they're busy and/or you are only going a short distance. Have an alternative in mind or be prepared to walk. Last Tuesday night, at Beaverton TC, with a suitcase, requested a 4-mile ride home. No response after several tries. Lesson learned. read more

I had to stay in Portland for two weeks on a business trip. My company wouldn't expense a rental, but would expense all Uber rides. I have to say, it was a pretty decent experience. Almost everytime I requested a ride, I got one within 5 minutes. Even when I was out of downtown Portland in the more obscure neighborhoods late night, I still got a ride. Drivers were very courteous and friendly, and cars were very clean. Really no complaints. read more

Uber canceled my ride to the hospital for my cancer treatment based on the incorrect address they had given to their driver. When they informed me of the $5 cancellation fee, I provided them with the information about my ride, showing that the error was on their part. I used UBER from Aloha to PDX last month, it was $13 less than a previous cab ride. Ot is always much faster in responding to pick us up than any CAB company I've tried here in Portland. I do feel that UBER needs to add a driver tip ability to the app because sometimes my rideshare drivers go above and beyond and deserve a small tip, unfortunately I don't carry much cash and never dollar bills. Another Plus is that the UBER vehicles I have been in are newer and much cleaner than many cabs I've been in and less rickety. I also use LYFT; it's a lot like Uber, just as responsive and allows passengers the added ability to leave driver a tip via their phone, no cash needed. Most of my friends have both Uber and Lyft apps installed, allowing them to get the closest ride. Also, most UBER guys drive for LYFT and vica versa, so both services put the customer first hy dispatching a neighborhood car. p r o g r e s s !!! read more

I have taken uber in other cities: San Fran, Denver and Seattle Portland is the worst. All of the cars smell awful. Particularly like a strip club or smokily lounge. I had my window rolled down because my eyes were burning, and the driver continued to roll my window up explaining it was distracting him from the gps. read more

UBER in Portland SUCKS! I booked an UBER ride from SW Portland going to the airport. The cost was to be $47.00 and I was to arrived within 20 minutes. I had the option of sharing a ride with somebody and, expecting a reasonably reduced charge and somebody in my SW Portland neighborhood also going to the airport, I agreed to this. HOWEVER, the shared ride involved driving through SE Portland neighborhoods at 25 miles per hour until we finally ended up in a bad neighborhood in the area of SE 82nd around 30 minutes later. The shared rider had two kids (total of three *additional* passengers) and luggage that could not fit in the UBER driver's small Prius. Midway through the 40 minute of wasted time, I was informed my price reduction for the shared trip was $3.00! And because the UBER driver could not fit the three people and their luggage into the Prius, she canceled the shared ride, AND I was not even given them easily $3.00 price reduction. Then after getting to the airport 40 minutes after this unreasonable detour through some sketchy areas of SW Portland, the UBER driver dropped me off at the farthest point possible from Alaska Airlines ticking area at PDX. NOW I am unable to speak with anybody at UBER about this disastrous experience. This was certainly my worst UBER experience, and there appears to be nobody with whom to discuss this or DEMAND a refund! read more

I purchased an in-app gift code for $50 and sent it to my daughters account. Uber deactivated her account shortly afterwards with no explanation and the money was never used. Uber support has been absolutely useless and has simply given me the run around. I filed a dispute with my bank and Uber has rejected that as well with no reason. I am currently filing disputes through the BBB, the CFPB, and others. I will never use their service again and I suggest you do not either. I recommend Lyft to everyone now. read more

I ordered uber for an old man in a walker and his caretaker. first the app showed me pick up places. this man can't walk. i kept putting in the address to which they were to come, a condo. when he texted me he was there and his flashers on, the man and his caretaker were in the lobby and went outside and there were no cars. then I got a $5.00 fee. I ordered another right away so they wouldn't be late. cab got there and all was fine. that was the last trip of the day and i can't get the wrong one on the app or on the screen and no place to ask for a refund. just their policy which i understand . just a pain. will go back to lyft who you can at least contact. read more

Plus, I order a ride and the driver told me he arrived but I couldn't see him and he didn't really speak English. Each time I have used Uber they have somehow gotten lost. I was almost late for work one morning because I depended on them to be here when they said they were going to be here and they were late. I requested a refund of the money that I paid they agreed but then charged me again twice for a lesser amount. Trying to get a hold of customer service is near impossible unless you send them an email and still trying to explain through an email what I need to tell them was challenging at best. I have no issues with most drivers. I use Uber for work purposes and to get to my dads. Uber Support however is fucking useless. The app keeps trying to sign me up for a business account. I take Uber for a reason. So I contact support with all the details on Twitter. They gave me the usual run around and ended the chat without solving the problem. Referring me to email even after saying "we're here for you".... I go to my email and keep getting the same fucking form email sent back to me with no resolution. Finally, someone said I had to delete my account and create a new one. Did that after backing up all my data. Signed up with a new account. Got the run around in trying to set up the new account which I couldn't login into! So now I have a messed up account that won't even let me use Uber eats. read more

It was hell on wheels, and not in a good way. The driver wasn't wearing shoes and smelled like cat urine and canned cheese. He was almost fifteen minutes in finding us when the app said 3 minutes.... At a downtown hotel!!! My wife wanted out when she smelled the poor guy but I felt bad for him and let him drive us home to Troutdale. We wound up paying $95 before tipping him another twenty in cash. Almost twice what we would pay a taxi! I hope he takes that profit and moved into a place with running water. I began taking Uber to work, as I no longer drive due to a medical scare. For 3 weeks, my fare was a consistent amount, within a dollar. The following week, I started getting charged $9.00+ more. Same trip, same time, same car, I was not on a promo those first 3 wks. I looked at my trip receipt and did the math. Was definitely over-charged, and started using LYFT. I have reached out to UBER to try and straighten this out, to no avail. The only reason I am giving them 3 stars is because I have had some wonderful drivers. Be careful! I needed to pick up my mom from PDX, and after checking the fare estimate, I decided to go with Uber. It was NOT a "surge" time and traffic was light. The drivers, to clarify, were great! But I was shocked at the final charges. The estimate said the MOST was $26 both ways, so I figured $52 or so was reasonable. However, the end charge was $48 and $46, making this trip WAY more expensive. I rechecked to make I had not misinterpreted the original estimates, which were $19-$26. Since this was not a surge time and even the drivers commented on the light traffic, I don't understand why it was TWICE the upper estimate. I went to their website and could find NO resource to see if I could simply ask why, but there was only set-up questions and no phone number or email. AARGH! I think I am DONE with Uber. As a resident of Portland, I have read and heard many positive reviews about Uber's innovative and efficient service. I was very excited to use Uber for the first time with my family on New Year's Eve. We planned on traveling to Portland for a dinner event and were relieved that Uber would be there to assist us with transportation. We appreciated the quick response to our pick-up request and the speedy arrival time to our home. The experience deteriorated, however, when we entered the vehicle and were greeted a strong scent of marijuana. At this point we were unsure if the driver was impaired. To our relief we arrived downtown without incident and went to our event. The real problem occurred, however, when we made arrangements to be picked up after the New Year's Eve celebration. This was my first time using the service so I was not familiar with the app and did not realize the implications of the Uber's "surge pricing" (shame on me). It was 1 o'clock am it and 24 degrees outside. My family and I had little choice but to take the ride. Halfway home I received a text message updating me that Uber had charged me $279.04 for an 11 mile trip! I felt completely burned by this company. In my opinion Uber's "surge pricing" is predatory. I felt that my family was victimized by an aggressive computerized profit model. I will not use or recommend Uber in the future and will rely instead on its competitors. read more
