What a poorly run organization. My son signed up for the monthly plan and the first class was ok, there was actual instruction and somewhat of a plan. I then watched as the second and third classes were essentially sessions where he was left by himself with no guidance and only greeted and then told to sign off. The zoom image was static so who knows of the instructor was even there. When I tried to cancel it was impossible to do so online and I had to contact them multiple times to finally get a response after months of billing. They refused to give me a refund and said it's their standard policy not to give refunds. What a crock. Avoid these scammers! read more

Love the concept, and the initial days were AMAZING. But after many frustrations with them loosing the code my son wrote, being unable to join in games due to broken machines, we decided to discontinue. If you do decide to join, GO WITH YOUR CHILD. One Minecraft Saturday, I sat and watched my son walk from machine to broken machine one Saturday (a monitor on one, a keyboard on another and two that couldn't see the servers). Despite the staff seeing my son walk from machine to machine, no one helped or offered assistance until I went to go get them. Even then, he could play the game, but not join in since his machine couldn't see the server and the staff made no apology just kind of said, that happens. (We had the same reaction when he lost the code he was working on which frankly was devastating). For $200 a month, I expect better. Don't get me wrong, there are some really neat technology and great staff here, but an equal or greater amount of duds. Such a shame as it is a great concept but has poorly maintained equipment and inconsistent staff. Also, we are still waiting for them to stop billing us. Despite being assured my membership was cancelled and refunds are on the way, the $200 showed up on my card again this month, and still waiting for the $400 to be taken off. read more

I looove Ucode, as it can have many different curriculums, like JavaScript, Python, HTML/CSS. It can help you learn many different coding languages, and the videos and the quizzes help you a lot on completing exercises, which help you learn the language. I signed my son up for u code in December because they were having a special promotion going at the time. The man that I spoke with on the phone when I had signed up asked if I would like to sign up for recurring payments each month. I told him no, and that we would just like to sign up just for the month to see if this was something my son would be interested in. A month later I received a statement on my credit card for $200. I called and emailed ucode to find out why this charge was on my statement and asked for it to be removed because I did not sign up for recurring payments. They replied by telling me that they would call me back later - which they never did. After having to call back over and over again in attempt to find out what was going on, the manager finally tells me that they will not reverse the charge on my credit card because when I signed up a "pop up box" came into my computer telling me that I agreed to this. I told them this did not happen and that this was not what I was told when I signed up. Their resolution to this issue was to give me the credit for the classes that was charged to my account without my approval. Needless to say after dealing with them, I called my credit card company and asked them to cancel that credit card because I don't feel safe knowing that they have my cc info and can charge whatever they want to it without my permission. It's sad that some businesses have to resort to stealing people's money in attempt to run a business. read more

My 8-year-old daughter loves this place! My review may be a bit premature since I just signed her up last week and she only attended one session so far, but she was beaming with joy after the first time! She actually ASKED me to review this place on Yelp! And she's not even a gamer! She has taken some early robotics classes at school, which she didn't appreciate much since the teacher for those classes didn't have any computer knowledge and she has to rely on other kids to learn anything (which is not productive with a bunch of 8-9 year olds). But at UCode, there are young, knowledgeable teachers in a friendly, clean, un-chaotic environment. She learned to program a simple game in her first lesson and the sense of accomplishment was very motivating. Here's an added bonus: they sneak in math while they're teaching programming! It goes hand in hand with some of the features they have to program, so they get extra math while programming. I hope the enthusiasm continues as she learns more but so far it seems excellent! It's a bit pricey but I think it'll be worth it. Thanks, UCode! read more

U code in Hermosa Beach rocks. I recommend it to anyone that want their kids to be competent in computers in the future.

My 13 year old son completed the "build your own computer" camp. He wasn't very interested in the idea originally, but I made him go anyway. He loved it from the first class. He learned something about computers, had a lot of fun doing it and was really proud of the machine he built. I have since signed him up for the on-going coding program. He is enjoying that too. He particularly likes working with the staff. He describes them as "really cool". We recommend it! read more

I agreed to have my 8 year old daughter try Ucode in hermosa beach for one month. I was told there was no contract to sign. It was a very relaxed transaction in person. I was told that I could create a class schedule online and my receipt would be emailed to me. I was unable to create my daughters schedule as the site wouldn't allow me. Finally, I had to contact the person who signed me up and he sent me a link. Thereafter, It was still problematic to create a schedule... I only logged in once... Then saw there were no morning classes.... Too time consuming, no customer service, Wanted my money reversed on my cc.... I was told I couldn't get my money refunded due to there terms and conditions.... I said what terms and conditions.... I didn't sign or see anything.... I asked to speak to the owner, Scott mueller... They said he would call me.... It's been a week... No call! Still have not received my money back....my daughter took 0 classes. I finally got an emailed receipt three weeks from my initial transaction. Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. UCode may be a good place for children to learn coding, but beware... Once your child stops going, they will continue to charge your credit card for the monthly fee. And, while you will leave voice mail messages for their billing dept, you will not receive a return call. Hopefully, your American Express is the credit card you've used because that's the way we were able to get our money back. read more

Both of my kids have been coding here for about six months. They have learned a lot. The scheduling is really flexible so we can work around other commitments. All the instructors have been patient and knowledgable. Both of my kids know way more about coding than I do now. read more

I just signed up my two children for a computer building camp for $359 each! On the website, it says that at the end of the week, children can take home their computers and play Minecraft on them.
