Was traveling to NC and was craving some South Indian food . Got this place from Google and thought of visiting this . Location wise it was good . In Cary ! Lots of parking outside . Lots of seating inside and few chairs outside for dine in . Wasn't crowded when we went on a Friday afternoon. Let's come to the food : overall we felt that the food was very average . A South Indian food is mainly good when the Sambar and chutneys are good. Chutney was very very very average . Coconut smelled wierd. I asked them if they had tomato or any other spicy chutney and they didn't have it .. really ? A South Indian hotel without spicy chutney ?? Sambar also was average . Less salt .. dosa was good .. my son liked it . Uthappa was ok.. it was huge and couldn't even eat of it because the Sambar/chutney combo wasn't good . Thayir vadaj was cold . Wish it was soaked for more time . Vadai was still hard ! Taste was good. Overall a very average experience .. 2.5/5

Udipi is a vegetarian restaurant and has some wonderful authentic South Indian food. All the appetizers rock and I was surprised how good the Papdi chaat was! The Thaali is pretty nice (both kinds) with fresh made sambar and dosa each time that we've gone. The medu vada are highly recommended along with nearly all their dosa offerings. Parking is ample here and the ambience is very casual. One thing to note is that they do not make the naan in-house so one time that I got it with my curry was this tough frozen-to-roasted naan but when I talked to the manager they informed me that the wait staff was supposed to inform everyone that Naan isn't house made. They quickly gave me chapatis for replacement and it worked out well.

Parking: It has its own parking lot. Food: large quantity and absolutly delicious. the chutney that came with it complimented it so well Service: was fast but it was not during a lunch rush Ambience: very basic scenery but plenty of places to sit around

Good place to get dosa in Cary. They have a lot of options for dosa and other food items as well. The service was good and the ambiance is nice. We got Mysore masala dosa and regular masala dosa - both came with sambar and coconut chutney. The dosa and sambar were okay, it could be better. I wish they served peanut chutney as well.

I had a yearning for dosa, looked up places on Yelp, and found this one pretty close. I had lunch on a weekday a couple of days after the new years day and there just one or two customers. I chose a Andhra Special Dosai and it came out super fast, possibly because they weren't very busy but also had a lot of experience with dosas - they've got about a dozen different types of their menu. The dosa was great! It was extremely long so it might have been awkward to pick up. I didn't have a knife at first so I made do with my fork but eventually asked for a knife to help me devour it. The menu said it was was *paper thin* and it truly was! I've never had a dosa quite that thin before but it was very good. The server warned me that it was spicy - I've learned that spice tolerance varies but I have a pretty high tolerance. I was fine with the spice and probably could have gone a little hotter. I'll definitely come back again. They have a big menu and more than just dosas!

We love udupi cafe. The food never disappoints us. The entire staff is hardworking and amazing!! Though we try out other things on the menu our go to masala dosa and mango lasssi. The ambiance is ok but the food makes up for it.

Decent Dosai. Nothing outstanding, but decent food. This place is our go to for a South Indian food fix.

The Gobi Manchurian is easily one of the best dishes in the Triangle. Hakka noodles and dosas are also excellent, as is the sambar.

Ask the Community - Udupi Cafe

Do they still have a lunch buffet?

I was there at lunchtime and didn't see one.

Is it buffet only for lunch?

You can order or the menu but everything on the menu pretty much is in the buffet...

Does Udupi have vegan options? Have you tried any vegan/veganized options?

I'm assuming most of their foods are made with coconut milk rather than dairy. It seems like most of their selection would be vegan. They're very accommodating, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to go over what's on the buffet.

Let me start with the one thing that was good, then elaborate on everything else, which was not ... especially the "scab" tacos. Really?! Scab tacos??!! [They chose the name, not me. Bet they would like a do-over. Just sayin'.] THE GOOD - The smokey, deep brown salsa served slightly warm was quite tasty. EVERYTHING ELSE: 1. I had the Shrimp Diablo Tacos and they were a disaster! Not only was the shrimp fishy, but the "costra style" shells were an absolute abomination: VERY greasy, amazingly unattractive (see photo), and likely packed 800 calories each due to the grease and cheese. Since there was only 1 bar of web connection, I was unable to Google "costra style" before ordering. Had I been able to do so, the description of being "scab like" (yep! You read that correctly!! Scab!!!) would have made the dish a No Go. That said, I will say the term is accurate: they were DEFINITELY scab-like in appearance, and the degree of grease oozing off of them put me not only in mind of a scab, but one attached to an infected wound. Barf!! 2. My wife's #1 from the lunch menu was about as basic as a taco and enchilada can be. She even told me it was a stretch to call it Mexican food. 3. And one final point: the place is L-O-U-D inside. Not quite - but almost - to the degree of being unable to talk while eating. Adios!
