let me start off with, i NEVER EVER write reviews. negative or positive. however this place was amazing & delicious. now i had been out since 7am at my nieces gymnastics meet. i hadn't ate literally all day & it's now 1:30-1:45pm and my husband & i just so happened to be walking past the food hall & there was just this aroma in the air that seduced me into following where this heavenly smell was coming from. we came upon chhote's. i ordered the chicken tikka masala (go for the spicy level 7. it's got the perfect kick to it without over powering the spicy level with the actual spices) my husband ordered the lamb curry & garlic naan. to say chef's kiss, is an understatement. both were earthy & fragrant, chicken was butter soft, you could cut it with a plastic spoon. my husband was obsessed with the lamb. the garlic naan wasn't overpowering, just the right amount. we ordered our food to go because i had to be back in durham by 230pm. let's just say, it smelled so delicious we couldn't wait. we ended up sitting down for a few minutes & it was definitely worth me being late to durham. the employees were super nice, they even came out to ask if we'd like a plate after noticing we ended up sitting down to eat. 10/10 for food, 10/10 for customer service. most definitely coming back & saved in my maps & no this was not one of those, "it's soo good because you're hungry." nope. we had enough to eat this for dinner, even reheated, 10/10 absolutely delicious read more

good stuff!! my mom and i stopped in after seeing a movie at marbles and ordered a few things to share. we got the veg samosas, paneer kathi roll, and chana masala, and then a masala chai for both of us. all of the food was good! i especially enjoyed the kathi roll, which had more veggies than usual. the chai wasn't very strong, but i liked it that way. prices were also pretty reasonable. a good option for indian food in the area! read more

Overall, I am not a big fan of the food hall. It's just not the best place for a date or catching up with friends because it is so noisy and crowded. However, if you're downtown doing something with a group and want to grab a quick meal with options for everyone it's the place to go. I've tried most of the vendors at Transfer Company but had not had Chhote so decided to give it a try last night. I ordered the Chana Masala and husband the Chicken Tikka Masala. Food was ready super quick and portion sizes were generous. Mine was very flavorful. Husband's had lots of sauce, perfect for all the rice, and was an average Tikka Masala. They offer various specials which they post for viewing. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Samosas. The samosas were huge but very lukewarm almost cold and the chicken tikka masala was plentiful yet kind of bland. The chunks of chicken were huge so no complaint there but I wish I could taste more spices and flavors. If ever in the area again I would give them a go and try another dish. read more

Lunch here today was good! It's Indian street food, and the menu is short. I chose two items from the small eats section--samosas and chicken kathi rolls, which were described to me as "Indian tacos." Both were nicely spicy and tasty, but the kathi rolls were enough on their own. I wound up taking a samosa home. My friend enjoyed his huge lamb dosa and managed to eat the whole thing. The service was quick and friendly, and the restaurant was clean. Windows surround the kitchen, so you can watch them work. I heard another patron say that it used to be a Char-Grill, and that was pretty obvious in the decor--it looks like they kept it the way it was (including tables and chairs) and just changed the signs. We would have liked to see more choices on the menu and more compostable containers. Also, the drink machine was broken, but water was fine with that spicy food. read more

The chicken tikka was good, nothing crazy or unique, but also inoffensive. The chunks of chicken were smaller than I'd expect but it was light and not as heavy after eating which I appreciated. You can clearly taste the freshness of the ingredients they use. The garlic naan bread is uninspired, lacking real taste of garlic and is a bit chewy. It makes it good for soaking up sauce but it struggles to hold anything on it sadly. I always look forward to garlic naan and unfortunately this didn't do much to accompany the meal. The rice was plain and unseasoned and did nothing but add texture to the meal. I was also disappointed in the portion size as I felt like the $18 would have warranted a bit more food. It's a forgettable experience, but one where you won't have a bad meal, but you won't be craving or thinking about the restaurant in the future. There's far better choices for Indian food, but if you're in a pinch it's passable. read more

Super tasty and a great addition to Transfer Food Hall! I knew I had to order the bison momos after Nancy T was raving about them. They definitely did not disappoint! They were flavorful and delicious. It was my first time having momoms so I don't have anything to compare them to, but I just know they were tasty. I also enjoyed the naan and samosas we ordered as well. I'd love to give some of their entrees a try next time. We also gave the Thumbs Up soft drink a try and that wasn't for me. It's one of the most popular soft drinks in India, it was Pepsi-esque. I like that they have it as an option though and am always up for trying something new. I'm so happy that Garner finally has an Indian restaurant and it's legit good! I've spent a lot of time in India, so am picky about having really good Indian food. Don't let the location fool you, they are serving up amazing street food from Chicken tikka masala to samosas to dosas and naan, there's something for everyone. I would have gone back just for the food, but all of the staff were so amazing, happy to be there and were excited to share their ideas for new things coming! It's very rare that I am completely blown away by something I eat and feel the urge to write a review right away, but Chhote's did that for me. I knew that the owners of Biryani Maxx were opening this place up but what I didn't know was that they partnered with Nepalese chefs/staff to manage the location. I LOVE Biryani Maxx so I knew this would be good. I had been to Transfer a few times and it took me three times to get my hands on the momos. I was really curious about them ever since I saw the menu posted during the soft opening and had been anxiously waiting. I ordered the bison momos and samosa chaat and both were delicious. I grew up on momos in Nepal and bison momos are hard to find in the US. And sometimes, they are not as good but that's not the case here. Each momo is packed with flavor and is so juicy that you have to eat it in one bite or you lose the tasty juices. I really hope they add other momos to the menu as well as some other popular street snacks because these guys are doing it right. The momos are made to order and take about ten minutes to steam, but are so worth it. The samosa chaat came out hot and fresh and exactly the way a samosa chaat should taste. My friend who isn't a fan of chaats liked it too, which I think speaks volumes! Chhote's gets two thumbs up. read more

Tried almost everything on the menu here (like I do at a new place)--including every unique appetizer, which was just under a dozen items. Total was was close to $150 pre-tip. Appetizers were mostly under $10 so I'm still not sure what happened. We don't live in Raleigh so not sure how to pursue at this point but wanted to call this out for others to check their receipt right away. On the the experience. The food was good, but not amazing. I wouldn't call anything particularly authentic, but it's always nice when the food isn't too Americanized. The curries were the best items, but I mean, it is hard to go wrong with curry and rice. The appetizers were flavorful but nothing screamed "take another bite!" We all agreed that the green peppers were stuck in random things and just didn't go well with the flavors. Marry the ingredients so they compliment each other; don't just use 'em because you have 'em! Take the peppers out of the tacos. Seriously. The service was so-so as well. We couldn't really get a lot of questions answered about menu items beyond repeating exactly what text was on the menu. Although we ordered over 10 items, we weren't given a tray. I had to make three trips and precariously stack both drinks in order to bring everything to my table. Good thing we sat close!!! There wasn't a buzzer or anything to alert us when items were ready and I think a few dishes had been sitting out out the regular counter for a bit before the others which is a little gross to think about. The cashier did come and find me when the last dish was almost ready (I think when her counter was too full for her comfort) which was a nice touch. I liked both the lassi and the chai, unlike a previous reviewer, as their flavors were strong and the textures were perfect. Not fresh, but I'm kind of a mango snob so almost no one meets that bar. We didn't do the desserts (in the self-serve drink fridge, not on the menu) but they looked pretty typical for what you'd find in any Indian place in the US. Would I go back? Nah, not unless I was really craving Indian food and there was nothing else around. The menu was too small to be a go-to place given the quality of each item. There's too many other places at the Transfer food hall to go back to a so-so place again. Oh, except for the drinks! I'd definitely grab the chai or lassi to go with breakfast from another place within the overall venue. They'd be perfect with the burritos or bagels I've been eyeing. read more

This time I paid $14 for Palak Paneer (which not only was overpriced but their hanging menu indicates the price is something else - I hate when restaurants/food establishments do that), which was a little steep for a vegetarian dish in a food hall. Awesome new Indian street food place in Garner! The atmosphere is very casual and is more like a cafe than restaurant. You order at the counter and the food is brought to the table. They have a chalkboard of daily specials and the menu is small but appropriate (think food truck but with seating). I ordered samosas, plain naan, chana masala, and lamb dosa. The samosas are delicious and come with a tamarind and cilantro chutney. The tamarind one is on the sweeter side and the cilantro one is spicy - both equally delicious. The chana masala is delicioussss and comes with rice. The lamb dosa comes with a coconut yogurt chutney that is so different from anything I've tried; slightly sweet but that offsets some of the spice. The total was $33 and I think that is a very fair price point! The food is very well seasoned but not salty and it's all made in-house. If you're craving for spices or need an Indian food fix or want to try something new, I recommend trying Chhote's! Indian street food at an affordable price in small town Garner. I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I've been several times since the place opened and the food here is wonderful. I've been a gourmet cook for well over 30 years and I've eaten ethnic foods all over the world. I've had Indian food in some of the poshest locations as well as some great hole in the wall places. Chhote's is at the top of my list for really good, simple flavorful Indian food. They have a small menu of exquisitely made dishes that are seasoned to perfection. Not overly spiced nor under spiced and there is no bitter overwhelming "curry" taste of too much turmeric. Each dish has a distinctive flavor all it's own, not like many Indian places where everything tastes pretty much the same and is super spicy and harsh. The spice level here is just right to let the flavors of the ingredients come through. If you prefer more spice, they are happy to accommodate you and make your dish as spicy as you wish. Everything is fresh, made to order and delicious. No pre-cooked, pre-packaged fast food or mass produced ingredients in this kitchen. They take great pride in their cooking and it shows. They even have the kitchen surrounded in glass so you can watch them cook. Now that is transparency! I've tried almost everything on the menu and never been disappointed. They offer vegan, vegetarian and gluten free dishes also, so there is something for everyone. I am not a vegetarian or vegan, but find those dishes are also very tasty and well made. The onion bhaji are now my great addiction, so flavorful and crisp, with a cilantro or tamarind dipping sauce, both of which are excellent. The lamb curry is so tender it melts in your mouth. The chicken tikka masala is perfect and the butter chicken has just the right balance of tomato and cream in the sauce. I am not a big fan of eggplant, but tried the new Baingan Bharta and wow, I was spectacularly surprised at how savory and flavorful it was. I will now order it often I am sure. The establishment is clean, open and airy and the staff couldn't be more friendly and hospitable. They gladly explained each dish to me, what was in it, how it is made and even told me about the special equipment they brought over from Nepal for creating some of the dishes. I'm so thrilled that Chhote's chose Garner as their new location. This area needed a good Indian restaurant. They have a new menu coming out next week and I am looking forward to trying the new dishes! read more

As others have noted, it's great that there's an Indian restaurant in Garner now. Yeah! I've tried Chhote's several times and have never been disappointed in the food; it's certainly as good as any other Indian buffet restaurant in Cary and Morrisville. The menu is mostly a mixture of northern and southern Indian favorites, with a few other southern Asian dishes such as bison momo thrown in for good measure. Dishes are seasoned on the mild side by by default, but the staff are happy to spice things up on request. Unlike the buffets, everything is a la carte, down to the naan, which is prepared on a flat-top griddle instead of a Tandoor oven, but still very tasty. Entrees tend to be $12-13, so it's not difficult for an entire meal to approach $20. This seems to be a bit of a stretch when you order at the counter, meals are served on disposable dishes, and with the exception of water, beverages are served from a bottle or can. When combined with the former Char-Grill decor (they even left a Char-Grill award on the wall), Chhote's isn't a very good value. Its main attraction for Garnerites is the location. If Chhote's offered more competitive pricing or a better dining experience, it would warrant a 4-star rating. read more

The food was not tasty or well made. The quality of the Nan was similar to a Lender's Bagel. It tasted like a it came from a bag at the grocery and it was served room temperature. To add insult to injury the two servings appeared to be only one Nan. The price very expensive. Our lunch consisted of two curries and two orders of nan, the two orders of nan cost $4.00. This place is deceiving. From the outside it seems kind of....sketchy haha but the food is beyond delicious and the staff/cooks are phenomenal. Pros are that the price is reasonable and the portion (of rice) is huge and the taste is on par (though not as spicy as some of the other curries I have had elsewhere. Cons are that I have ordered a pork vindaloo, the potatoes were not fully cooked (as they were still hard when biting into them) and that the pork were more like pork belly, with half meat and half the fat. I thought that pork belly meats are not as common to serve unless it is charred or grilled, I wished I was informed of that before I had ordered. Was introduced to this place today by a good friend. Very limited menu currently and the appetizers aren't noted which are GF or vegan. Alright knowledge of Indian food helps here. I understand a new menu coming shortly that will expand on both of these items. I had the onion bajji, bison Momo, and lamb curry. My only concern was I asked for a four out of five and was slightly underwhelmed by the spice. But the flavors were good. First time I. So perhaps the cooks were taking it easy on me :). The bhajji was made with chickpea and the Momo with rice dumpling. So all this is gluten free and a good meal.
