Anddddd, the best dosa in the Triangle goes to..... BLR Bar in Morrisville! A few months back, I had planned a group dinner with a bunch of friends and one person recommended BLR Bar. I love Indian so I said "sure, why not!" A group of 8 of us went and as we all scoured the menu, it occurred to us that this place was vegetarian only. My initial thought (and I'm sure other peoples also) was.. "oh snap.... Did I make a mistake?" Honestly, it's been a long time that I've been to a non-meat establishment and had I known in advance, I probably would have passed this restaurant up, but since I was already there, I, along with everyone else, went with it. We were all seated, drinks had been poured, everyone was committed to their chairs. There was no backing out. From looking at the menu, it seemed like Dosas were popular so being that it was supposed to be a South Indian restaurant, I decided to get it. My friends got the gobi, one spicy and one non spicy. Guys, the spicy was incredibleee. Loved it so much. It was crunchy on the outside, soft in the inside and had a punch to it. But I will say, the non-spicy was just okay, it just didn't deliver that kick to it. When the dosa came, I was in love. It was a beautifully done dosa, with the perfect curl and texture. Paired with the sides, it was delicious. Fast forward six months later, I went to BLR Bar again, but slightly fearful that I wouldn't enjoy it as much the second time around. The area between Raleigh Durham and Chapel Hill is probably one of the best parts of the country to be looking for regional Indian food. When I asked the staff here, they said they were speakers of Kannada, a language from the south Indian state of Karnataka. Oh my god! This place is amazing. From Dosa, Idli to Punjabi dishes , everything was amazing!! Place is clean and staff members are extremely nice and helpful. Plenty of parking available. BLR is the airport code for Bengaluru. BLR rocks South Indian vegetarian fare. I tried out the tiffin platter, which consists of idli, vada, a mini masala dosa, some upma, and a generous helping of kesari for dessert. I must admit I was impressed with all the items. This combo is only available for weekday lunch, if I understand correctly. This is ironic, since it has the potential to induce a food coma which office goers in the area may not want. My wife ordered a rava dosa and asked for it without onions, which they were able to customize for her. She was happy with the rava dosa as well. Started off with super high expectations and then went downhill from there 1. Service is abysmal and missing in action 2. Dosa was woefully undercooked 3. The place was crowded and they had only 2 people staffed to serve The pricing is on the higher side. The owners appear to not care about quality of food and experience. We visited BLR Bar & Curry Restaurant for lunch today and had a lovely experience. We arrived around 1:30pm and were seated right away, even though they close at 2pm. The server let us know upfront that we'd need to place our full order at once, which was completely understandable.We ordered idli, masala dosa, and paneer lababdar with garlic naan. The idlis were soft and fresh, and the dosa--though not very large--had the perfect balance of a crunchy exterior with some thicker, softer bites inside. The chutneys and sambar were flavorful and delicious.The standout was the paneer lababdar, which truly lived up to its name--rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious.Overall, a great lunch experience, and we'll definitely be visiting again. read more

Yikes I had such high expectations for this place. I'm surprised no one's mentioned the incredibly small portion sizes. The service was average. They forgot to give me potato filling for my dosa and I asked for a spicy dosa but they forgot to put green chilis in it. I would definitely rate this as number one in South Indian Cuisine in the RTP area. It would rank above Anjappar in the idlis, wadas and dosai category. The only dish that I did not like was their "saagu". This same item too is served as Veg Korma, so be careful. I love their idli, wadas and specially their rava dosai. The rava dosa was really good and so was the idly vada combo. My favorite though is the Bisibele bath. We have ordered it do many times till now. Their pani puri was good but it was spicy. So-so but there are better options and I wouldn't recommend this to anyone or take anyone here. Annoyed that they charged a BS $3 charge just to have the normal serving of potato masala that comes with the masala dosa on the side instead of inside the dosa (they did not put any masala inside, only a tiny serving of the potato masala on the side, and then charged it as "extra potato masala". If you want to advertise reasonable prices on the menu then don't resort to shady practices like this to make up your margins. And also the dosa was very greasy and unpleasant and the coconut chutney way too salty. They added a 20% gratuity which the service level was not on par with. read more

The name, menu, and concept really had my interest since I miss the south indian breakfast places in Mumbai and hadn't found one that meet expectations. The place is well spaced out with a casual feel. We ordered afghani paneer tikka, bonda soup, paneer lababdaar (recommended by staff), tandoori roti. All dishes had minimal oil which is a huge plus and something I truly appreciate when dining out. Afghani tikka: Paneer was soft and dish had the right flavors. Veggies were fresh and chutney flavorful. The marination could have been better but we liked it overall. Bonda Soup: Our fav dish of the night. Bonda had lots of pepper, coconut, and softness. However, the soup/daal took away the award for best flavors. Definitely ordering it again. Paneer lababdar: Less cream, balanced flavor, and generous portion. I loved that it is not your template paneer tikka Tandoori rotis were perfectly done and soft. Their quantities are great. Also this is a pure veg restaurant. I look forward to trying their breakfast menu and would surely be returning here! Thank you to their staff for excellent customer service especially the gentleman who served our table! Menu descriptions could go a long way here. They are catering to a very specific dining population (S. Indian) by not providing explanations, so for those not familiar with S. Indian food you have no idea what you are in for and looking up each dish is stupid. While I am fairly well versed in most Indian food offerings this menu was completely foreign to us. We ended up ordering the broccoli pakoda (aka pakora), bisi bele bath (a mushy lentil dish) and Hyderabadi Veg Curry (a tomato based curry). We ordered mild for all dishes and it was a good amount of spice. The items all tasted fine but we are unlikely to be back unless I bring a S Indian friend with me to decode the menu and make suggestions. read more

It didn't have any taste to it other than being extremely spicy. I was put off the moment I sat down.
