I purchased a dresser from them three years ago. They estimated 10 weeks to receive it; they were going to stain and finish it for me. After 11 weeks I called them to see when the piece would be finished, and they said they had just received it and would call me when it was done. Three weeks later they were finished with it; I asked for free shipping because they couldn't deliver when it was promised and ended up getting a 10% off card on my next order (no expiration date). The delivery guys seemed nice and the dresser itself is exactly what I wanted. Last year I tried to get matching night stands for the dresser and the company which supplied the furniture went under. They said they could design the furniture for me if I could give them the specifications. I had a photocopy of the brochure with the dimensions on it and they said they would get back to me with a quote. They never did. I called, e-mailed, and visited them several times and I never received a quote on those nightstands. So I guess they didn't want my business. I have no idea how they stay in business with such poor customer service. read more

I am giving these folks a 2 because it took them two times and about 8 weeks to still NOT get the job done correctly. Ordered a customized Oak pantry door for about $400. Took about 4 weeks. Got it home; sanded, stained, finished it. Guess what ? They made the size incorrectly. Well made, but the guy did not interpret the measurements correctly. Called them and took it back. They were going to re-make it. Great.. Waited about another 4 weeks. Got it, measured it, sanded, staind and finished it. Noticed that the back side of the door was poorly cut and the workmanship was poor. Called them and all I got was an apology. Now the joints are separating on one side. Not sure if I can glue them up and clamp it. So Beware ! I would not go there again. read more

I'm giving 2 stars because they were nice to deal with. I purchased a 4-section wall unit for a total of 20' - each section 5' long. The only reason I went to this store was because I wanted my wall unit painted a specific color combination. My unit ended costing $3,800 & change. This was for the 4 units, finishing and delivery/set up. Not exactly expensive but not exactly cheap either. However, the cheap was in the quality and I would recommend, if you know how to paint, save the cost to have them refinish the item and do it yourself. I'm sure you can do just as good a job. If you don't know how to paint or stain wood, read a book or Google How To because, again, I'm pretty sure you can do just as good a job. The unit itself consists of 2 shelving units with cupboards below the shelves and in between are 2 dressers with drawers. So the layout goes: Shelve/cupboard unit, dresser, dresser, shelve/cupboard unit. The paint scheme was brown & white. The unit is made of flimsy wood and the dressers have gaps between the drawers so much so that you can see the metal sliders. I'm told this is standard. I have NEVER seen gaps this large and I've NEVER been able to see the drawer slides on anything I've ever owned. I went to Costco & Ikea and looked at their dressers and their product doesn't have gaps nor can I see the drawer slides. The team at UFM are VERY nice unfortunately, the quality of the product they carry is very low end. The paint job was not done well either but again, they are really nice to work with. So, if you want to pay high end of moderate price for low quality merchandise and poor quality refinish then go here but if not, steer clear. Can't say I'm unhappy because they were just so darn nice to work with but I'm extremely disappointed in the quality that I ended up with and wish I'd spent my $3,800 elsewhere. read more

This store is great! We wanted to update my daughters room and stay on a budget. They took there time with my wife and I, showed us lots of options. My wife was in contact with them several more times after that both in the store and email... always patient with all the questions. We ordered a book case from this company at the end of August, and we were told it would take approximately 6-8 for it to be constructed and shipped from the factory to the store, where they would stain it and deliver it for us. I called 9 weeks after we placed the order to ask where we stood, and the company that constructs the furniture hadn't even begun building the piece yet (apparently, they were busy with a big furniture show). I told the woman I spoke with that we were counting on this arriving in time for the Holidays, and that it would have been nice if she had called us to at least let us know we were nowhere NEAR the arrival date we were given. She told me they have so many orders that would be difficult to do. The furniture at the store is high quality, however, and once it's here, I'll be content. read more

I ordered a custom corner desk to be built by Rod's from standard pieces picked from a catalog. UFM wrote up the invoice and included a drawing with measurements. In summary I was promised a custom item in 8-12 weeks. It took them 13 weeks and two tries to deliver the wrong piece of furniture. I did eventually end up with a usable desk (although not to the specifications that I ordered) so that is worth one star. I don't know what went on between UFM and Rod's so I can't say who's to blame for the mistake. I do know that UFM should have checked the piece before they delivered it to me, which they admitted they did not do, and they were not able to make it right. I ordered from them and it is their responsibility to make sure the job is done right. Read on for more details. I was told it would take 8-12 weeks for completion. UFM called around 10 weeks to have me pick a finish because the piece would be delivered to them soon. I picked a finish and they called to schedule a delivery. I would have my piece in a total of 11 weeks. So far everything is going as planned. Their finisher and a helper delivered and assembled the piece I ordered. The desk was 4 inches too long on each end. They had also filled small gaps between the pieces with wood putty. I measured each piece and figured out what was done incorrectly. I called UFM to tell them. They told me they would fix it and that I didn't have to pay the entire remainder of the COD but that I had to give them $500. When I asked what for they told me "Well, you have 3/4 of a desk". I told them that was unacceptable and that they would need the entire desk to make sure it was correct before they delivered again. I was told that they would know in two days what needed to be done and how long it would take. I called them 3 days later and was told that it would take another week and a half. Up until this point I was dealing with the same person. The next call I received was from someone else who was going to "step in and take over". He asked how I wanted the desk fixed. I was confused. He asked which section I wanted them to change. I told him that I did not want to deviate from what I ordered and that I wanted the piece of furniture on the invoice. So change the piece that doesn't match the invoice. He said that he would call me by a certain time with an update. He didn't. I had to call him. He gave me an excuse. He said he would call me again by a certain time with an update. He didn't. I had to call him and he gave me another excuse. On a Thursday he asked me if I could take a delivery on Friday night or Saturday. I said yes. He said he would call me back that night or the next morning to set up a delivery time. He called me back to set up a delivery for Sunday. When my availability didn't match with his he said it would have to be pushed back to one evening the next week. I asked what happened to Friday night or Saturday and got more excuses. We agreed on a time Sunday. He arrived with the finisher and assembled the desk. Now it's 2.5 inches shorter on each side than what I ordered. When I questioned him I got more excuses. He asked if I wanted him to take it back again and fix it. I told him that he could take it back and refund my deposit or leave it at a discount. Amanda S. said in her review that they were nice. I won't argue with that but they were also unprofessional. I don't understand how you don't deliver what you promise and think that it's okay. read more

I am surprised about the bad reviews for this place because we have had a great experience. A few years ago, we ordered some bar stools and a desk and printer table after renovating most of our downstairs. I don't actually remember how long they took, but they looked great. Then last year, my son needed a new dresser. Again, don't remember timing, but it looked great too. This summer we renovated our bedrooms and needed a bunch of new furniture. We ordered two bed sets and two dressers that came within 2 weeks (in fact, we weren't even finished with the remodel yet and they held them in their warehouse for a week until we were ready). They look amazing! We also ordered two desks and a TV console that have taken longer, but I don't think it has been excessive. They quoted 8 weeks (which is this week) and I just checked and they won't be here until next week, but for custom furniture, that is worth it to me. We just went somewhere else to look for some book cases and realized we can get custom all wood furniture from UFM for the same price as the pre-made ones with particle board backs at Living Spaces. As soon as I have time, I will be going back to pick out some book cases to go with all my awesome new furniture. read more
