I just had one of the worst experiences ever. I dropped by yesterday looking for tea cups. I love collecting them! The lady at the front didn't acknowledge me when I walked in even though I heard her interacting with everyone else. I just ignored it and went about my shopping. I saw some I liked but I didn't get them because I wanted to see if any other stores had ones that were a little closer to my set. I didn't, so I returned today because it was such a great deal. She acknowledged me this time but I could tell she was just forcing it. I went up to purchase the cups and was heading out when I stopped to look at some more tea cups right by the door. Well she walked up to me and asked me what I had. I thought she was just curious about what I'd ended up getting and said tea cups. She asked me where I was going with them, that I needed to purchase them. I was at a loss of words. Why would I be walking out of a store with a taped up box if I hadn't paid for it?!?! I even had the receipt in my hands. The lady that helped me with my purchase walked up and stated I'd paid for it already. I cried when I got into my car. I love visiting thrift stores because I loved antique/vintage items. Unfortunately, I may never know if it's because of my skin color but that was the vibe I got from the entire situation. The store is very clean and well organized. The employees are super friendly and helpful. They have a nook that filled with lots of crafting materials including yarn and needle point stuff. That Arts and Crafts section is a haven for most schoolteachers and crafting folks. the prices have gotten a little more expensive than I remember the last time I was here. parking is easy since there is a dedicated parking lot behind the store. They accept donations between a certain window of time, so I suggest calling the thrift store before dropping off donations. read more

I have gone there for years, BUT today when when I was trying to get out of my parking space in the back area it was a NIGHTMARE!!!!! By the time I came out there was a large Mercedes SUV parked behind me and all the other spaces filled. Then when I'm trying to maneuver out an older women in a SUV pulls up in the driveway and I waved for her to to pull back out which she IGNORES!!!! Then an elderly man who is a volunteer there tries to explain to her that I can't get out but she keeps pulling in????? I have never seen anyone act so DELIBERATELY STUPID!!!! as she did. I even yelled out DO YOU OWN THIS PLACE???? and MORE. For that I don't need the HASSEL OR STRESS of shopping there ever again. The parking is the worst!!!! and has been all along. Good store but prices have definitely been raised over the past few mths. Be very careful when being charged out. I have been over- charged now twice. I will now start putting the prices of the items I am purchasing as a note in my phone so I will be able to say something at the time of purchase. Pam S. I had been going to this Thrift Shop for sometime to donate everything from clothing to home items. I stopped by a week ago at 3:45, they close at 4:00pm, I noticed there was no one in the back to help me with removing a couple of items from my car. I entered the front door and went to the back cubicle where about 6 people sitting and talking to one another obviously those that were working there. I asked if someone could possibly help me with a couple of bags of clothing ----- to my surprise, some of the group loudly shared "we close at 4 and do not take anything this close to closing time. Am I incorrect in understanding this is to support local charities? What kind of a response was that !!!!!!!!!! It appeared there was no Manager or such to talk with me. I had the entire staff letting me know there is no drop off at this time. Not very charitable. I thanked them and started for the front door in which someone who was in the store shopping shared with me "I don't blame you", the fact that I was leaving without leaving my donations. Too bad there was that attitude from the people working there. Perhaps they need to work somewhere else, not having to do with Charities. I will no longer support this Thrift Shop. read more

I went to this store on 12/20 to look for some accessories for a party. As I was looking around and unable to find what I need I decided to ask someone. Several people just walked past me and didn't acknowledge me (or even say hi), so I approached the front cashiers instead. The older lady working the cashier around 1PM was not very pleasant and seemed annoyed that I was asking her a question. The younger lady was actually helpful and nice. I decided just to go to another thrift store in the South Bay that made me feel comfortable. I understand with the holidays, people may be stressed but I just did not feel welcomed by any of the employees here other than the young lady at the register. Stopped by for the first time and had a lovely welcome from a friendly, amusing woman sitting by the door. All the staff I encountered were eager to help, but no one breathed down my neck. Jon wrapped up my (highly breakable) purchases and I really appreciated the care he took. (Note to self: Always a good idea to take your own wrapping materials). Unfortunately, dogs aren't allowed, so I couldn't stay as long as I would have liked, but still found a few unusual treasures. Whole place is very clean. Goods are well-organized and clearly marked. A few sets of fancy china, nicely displayed, along with a lot of other home goods and for the most part, the prices are pretty fair. Can't speak for the books or clothes selection, but I did see some $1 and $2 clothing racks. About 6 parking spaces round the back. read more

If you want a good customer service, stay away from this store. I already heard a lot of horrible stories when it comes to the Tuesday Manager of this store, until I saw and heard it by myself. She treated a lady that is seating next to a shoe shelf like she was a thief and putting something on her bag when the lady said something to her the way she was treated she was like "that's not what I said and meant" turned away and said "I'm not getting paid enough for this". You are the one who almost accused the lady and plays the victim. Smh! Look in the mirror and hear yourself the way you treat the customers and you had a choice when you decided to volunteer to work for the thrift store. You are the rudest person or store manager I had heard and seen. Not just that when I turned around someone is checking up on me because I had my small backpack on and in my work uniform. And it's just so sad knowing Holy Week and Easter Sunday just passed and I will encounter people like this. I'm not gonna spend my HARD EARNED money in this store and I will never ever again DONATE my clothes and other stuff in this store. read more

Sweet shop! There are actually two buildings! The main shop has housewares, records, clothes, books and jewelry. The entire staff are all volunteers and friendly. It is jammed packed with lots of goodies! There is a separate building next door set back from the street with furniture only. Both places are very nice! Free parking in back. read more

All around 5 stars, EXCEPT for an incident today. I've frequented this store a few times now and find that it has the best prices and choices (clothes). Greeters are so friendly and sweet! However, I had a very negative experience at the cashier which left a sour taste in my mind. During payment, I left my wallet, phone, and a bit of cash on the counter as it seemed that the lady (wearing all black + a black hat) was ready to take my money. I asked to see the purse selection which was right in front of me, and stepped a grand total of a half step away. When I returned that half step, the lady decided that it would be appropriate to scold and lecture me in a derogatory manner about how leaving my things on the counter (in plain sight, by the way) was a "bad, BAD habit." I apologized, but realized that her behavior was inappropriate and uncalled for. My things were all in my plain sight. She could have simply advised that I move my things closer to me before looking at the purses but instead WAITED 30 seconds until I came back to make that comment, which everyone in the line heard. I understand that this was a very isolated incident, but I wanted to make sure that this was mentioned as I hope that this experience is not repeated by that staff member. read more

I've heard great things about this thrift store from my co-worker. Small parking lot in the back. I was greeted by many staff members who are all volunteers. All the housewares are located by the entrance, neatly lined the shelves. Halloween costumes (mostly kids) are to the left of the entrance. Shoes are displayed throughout either on top of the rounders or on shelves alongside the back of the store. Purses are hung throughout the store. Things are neatly organized and labeled, given the space. All the jewelery sit within the glass case near the register. Little knick knacks on shelves throughout. The clothes are a bit dated, but I did see some nice name-brand items such as Abercrombie down jackets to Cole Haan shoes. My favorites were located in the home goods area. The prices are reasonable. There were nice 10-piece dining sets for around $10. I bought bears salt & pepper shaker as well as a colorful leaf decorative piece for tables. When I went to pay, I told the lady that it was my first time there, she told me how everyone's a volunteer and all the proceeds go to various charities around the community. They were just so happy to be there. FYI: They do charge sales tax. Also, they take donations if you want to drop off stuff. read more

I've encountered very nice lady workers and have encountered some not so very nice ladies. One day before entering the store, I grabbed a basic brown t-shirt I liked from the $1 clothing rack outside. At the check out, the cashier saw the $1 price tag attached to the shirt and said that the ticket was marked incorrectly- there's no way this shirt could be sold for $1. She never explained why or even apologized for the inconvenience. Isn't ever item donated anyways? Even if it was a mistake, would it have hurt the business to honor the price tag that one time? Despite the unpleasant encounters, I go back because of some nice gems I could find. Like many thrift stores, it could be a hit or miss on any day. Prices I say are fair but that might be up to the cashiers at the end of the day lol. Hopefully no one else experiences that read more

Like most thrift shoppers, I tend to go to the same stores over and over. And like most thrift shoppers, I've had those weekends where everything looks exactly the same as it did the previous weekend. In the effort to avoid this, I headed into a different area than where I normally thrift and I used my handy-dandy Yelp app for Blackberry to find some awesome new-to-me stores! On the way to one of them, however, I stopped in at Palos Verdes Resale. Lucky, lucky me! I was immediately happy with the setup, and that is that there's stuff everywhere. The bookshelves, cabinets, drawers and shelves are all packed with interesting items. Goodwill and Salvation Army have a time and a place, but when you really want to find great deals, you need a shop like this! And the prices were very reasonable. I got a pair of elephant bookends for $4, a linen shirt for $3 and a jar of vintage golf tees for $1. The selection is really wide, too - they have vintage sheet music, magazines and books, as well as men's, women's and children's clothes. They have tableware, furniture, knick-knacks, records, jewelry and electronics. They even have a case full of higher-priced items that they've done research on. Next to a vintage book will be a print-out showing how much you can get for it on Amazon - sometimes the profit is as high as $80! Because of their proximity to Palos Verdes and their community connections, they also regularly have bespoke and haute couture items for sale! My favorite thing about PV Resale is that they are completely non-profit and every single cent goes to local charities. Each volunteer employee designates a charity that they would like to support. The more hours they work that month, the higher the donation to their charity! As of 2/2/10, they are currently supporting the following charities: Agape - St. John Fisher outreach program Casa de los Angelitos - home for pregnant women Christian Outreach - meals for homeless House of Hope - women's recovery center Meals on Wheels - meals for homebound Presentation Learning Center - education for Spanish-speaking adults Sts. Peter & Paul Poverty Program - aids poor Sisters of Charity of Rolling Hills - supports poor STAR - residence for the disabled youth Pediatric Therapy Network/Camp Escapades - special needs children Richstone Family Center - works with abused children Harbor Pregnancy Center - Right to Life Harbor Interfaith - Services to needy families The only downsides are that the parking lots is small (though there's plenty of street parking) and the store can get really crowded, too. Donations from PV? Sign me up for the rich people's hand-me-downs!! (!!!) I've been to my far share of thrift and consignment shops across the country and this by far has one of the best selections I've seen in a long time. I scored a pair of Bruno Magli shoes for $25 (keep in mind these are $400 kind of shoes) and a custom made tuxedo for $14. It's really quite un-believable. I'm still at a loss for words on the items we walked away with. Yet, even with the very reasonably priced item, they had a 50% off sale for all yellow-tag items. I'm still not clear if this sale was because of the July 4th weekend or if it's a Saturday thing, but holy guacamole.... there are bargains to be had here! I snagged an Ann Taylor cardigan, two skirts, and an Abercrombie tank all for less than $20, actually now that I think of it *reviews receipt* I actually spent $14 for those four items of clothing. Oh snap! Now of course every visit in unique and perhaps I just came in on a really REALLY good day. But all the apparel were in good condition and all the proceeds are going towards charity. Nothing makes me feel better than knowing that 100% of the profits are supporting a good cause. So yes I am a believer, and they'll see it since I plan to come here at least once a month, even though I live about an hour away. read more

The most unprofessional customer service. If I could rate a 0, I would. It is not my fault the workers are just volunteers, I should get great customer service if I am purchasing items. They threw my items when I stated I wanted a separate transaction. I would prefer going to another thrift shop that has way better customer service. They first didn't even say hello. Then they threw my items. They didn't even tell me my total and just pointed at the total amount when I didn't put my card in. Super rude. If one has no good service, one should not put themselves in this environment. Thank you. read more

I've solely donated to this organization for the past 5 years because they distribute locally and they aren't aligned to any religion. I've also bought my items from the them. They aren't close to my home and so it's a conscious effort to donate here. My only criticism is how rude and non caring everyone is when you drop off your donations. It's a bit intimidating since there will be several people looking at you and not one greets you or acknowledges you. So you awkwardly say, 'I'm here to drop off donations' and they continue to stare at you.. not helpful at all. Well except eventually someone will ask 'you want a receipt'? I can't be the only person who donates with this criticism so suggest to train the people who are in the back sorting to greet people making donations. Say THANK YOU.. it goes along way! read more

This place is tucked away on a street I've driven on all my life. I've probably passed by this shop hundreds of times but never noticed it. The store has a mixture of random used clothes, designer, vintage.. and designer vintage. It's definitely not thrift store prices though. The ladies that work here are very very friendly. It was fun talking to a lady about the 80s, since that's my favorite clothing era. Me: I really like the styles from the 80s! Lady: The 80s? Let me think, what was popular then? It just doesn't seem like very long ago. Mind you, I am an 80s child! And we proceed to talk about the 60s/70s, which was the prime of her time! Fascinating. I liked this store because a lot of the stuff was worth looking at; unfortunately, PV Resale loses a star for being rather pricey, so don't expect thrift store prices. It's better described as a consignment shop. They definitely sort through their items and do their research on their vintage items so they know what they're selling. They have a lot of awesome books, which is nice to see, a good amount of china and adorable tea sets as well as a good selection of shoes and jewelry. There's also a vintage section on the left side of the store. The staff/volunteers in the store are nice and the other customers tend to be a bit more well-to-do than your standard thrift store haunts. It's a good start to thrift store shopping if you're still a little antsy about people or cleanliness. read more
