The current seasonal flavor is pineapple, which they allowed me to sample before buying. I decided to order a soft serve swirl of ube and pineapple in a taiyaki. It was $8.75 before tip. Not a bad combo, the ube is fairly strong flavored. The pineapple was tart and sweet. I thought they tasted fine together (you can't mix and match out of the 4 current flavors for the swirl, there's only 2 flavor combos available for swirl). I probably would've preferred both to be a little less sweet but it was decent otherwise.

Good: - The ube swirl with blueberry hit the spot just right - A bit on the sweet side but very refreshing - Ice cream comes out very fast and staff are fast so quick service - More fast casual ambiance Bad: - A bit expensive for a single scoop of ice cream - No dedicated seating but there's a lot of space inside the mall Overall this was a simple stop after a quick dinner before a movie
This was my first time trying this place and I really liked it. The taro flavor was my favorite so yummy! The ice cream was rich and creamy, and I loved how well it paired with the bread. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the environment felt welcoming. I'd definitely come back and can't wait to try more flavors next time.
Wanted a sweet treat after dinner and this was one of the few spots open. I normally get their matcha but decided to try their lychee. The soft serve was good but the lychee tasted a little artificial. I would recommend sticking to their matcha!
I was in the area with a group of friends and we all decided to stop by Uji Time to get a frozen treat since it was hot outside. The shop is small and they are located inside the Metreon on the ground level. You can enter from the doors on 4th Street or from Yerba Buena Gardens and walk to it. I went on a weekday and there was only 1 staff handling the register and making the desserts. The wait wasn't long since we were chatting as we waited for our items and most of us got soft serve. I went with the black sesame since I don't like matcha. The black sesame soft serve was creamy and not too sweet. I was hoping the black sesame flavor would be stronger. We found a table at the food court and stayed there to enjoy our desserts.
Amazing!! So refreshing & high quality matcha. I got the matcha soft serve & added matcha powder & red beans. It was sooo tasty. The matcha was very strong & not overly sweet which I appreciated. Would definitely recommend checking it out!
Cozy dessert place serving soft serves in taiyaki (fish-shaped waffle cones). We tried their lychee soft serve in the taiyaki waffle cone filled with Nutella. The ice cream was soft and tasty, but the cone itself fell way short. It was soft, and the filling was hardly there - quite disappointing. It's worth a try if you haven't tried it before, but we've had these before at a popular place in South Bay, so the novelty factor wasn't there for us.
(Overall: B) - My friend and I were eager to try their seasonal orange flavor taiyaki soft serve, which gives strong resemblance of the orange cream soda, a delicate balance between an artificially sweet orange and vanilla that is quite pleasant. The soft serve is indeed soft, but also does not melt immediately unlike Somi Somi, which is great. I love how this small shop has an abundance of unique Asian flavored ice cream that is definitely a draw. The staff are reasonably as nice as well. I love taiyaki, and while this is untraditional, their cones always satisfy my cravings! I love getting red bean, their seasonal ice cream, and a drizzle of honey whenever I go. So tasty and super cute! The serving is also the perfect size which I love. Totally recommend checking this spot out if you are in the area!
Cute lil Asian-inspired ice cream shop located in SoMa's Metreon food hall. I will admit that I'm generally not the world's biggest Metreon fan -- it always feels barely half-open and slightly deserted, and it always carries a pretty strong scent of buttered popcorn from the AMC -- but Uji Time Dessert does make ducking inside worthwhile. They're most known for their soft serve with a taiyaki cone (which you can also get on top, with the ice cream in a cup, if you're more of a ice cream cup kinda person but still want the taiyaki). They always have their black sesame and/or matcha soft serve, but you can always switch it up with the ube and/or seasonal flavor. The classic black sesame and matcha is a great combination, with a lovely earthiness from the matcha and nuttiness from the black sesame. It does trend a little sweeter as far as matcha soft serve spots go, but it's still a delightful sweet treat. The seasonal flavor, of course, rotates, but I did love their Aug. 2025 flavor -- the honey osmanthus was super floral and a bit sweet, but not overly so. The cool, soft ice cream goes wonderfully with the warm, slightly crispy taiyaki; I'd honestly probably rather just get the taiyaki on its own and/or with less ice cream, but it's hard to complain about having too *large* a portion.
Decided to check this place out after a huge meal. Despite my full blown stomach, the matcha and sesame swirl I got was still soooo good. Living at a location where these Asian flavors are not available, I may be biased but definitely consider checking this place out! FYI- no chairs/dining tables are available here.

My friends and I had just eaten a huge lunch and we were craving something sweet. This place was the perfect spot! The soft serves are full of flavor, but not overly sweet or heavy. Tucked away in a mall or movie food court, this little spot is awesome! I got the Black Sesame with an Oreo and sprinkles in a taiyaki with nutella. I know that sounds like a lot, but it is honestly perfection. They have a few other flavors like matcha and vanilla that you can swirl. They also have some seasonal flavors too. This time it was Watermelon which tasted like a light watermelon bubblegum flavor. We had just missed the seasonal peach which would have tasted great too. Can't wait to get my hands on another taiyaki!

My boyfriend and I wanted a sweet treat after dinner, so we checked this place out. We were a bit skeptical because many Asian desserts are "not too sweet". The staff recommended ube to satisfy our sweet tooth..I added red bean topping and a taiyaki cone. Less than 15 minutes later, we were back in line to order the jasmine milk tea flavor topped with nutella and taiyaki cone. The seasonal ball scoop ice cream was Thai tea. It was not bad, that's Thai tea all right. But nothing stood out to me. The texture was a bit weird, it was actually a bit chewy, like mochi. I definitely didn't order mochi by accident haha. It wasn't bad just very unexpected. The explanations in the signs were good (how to order) and the staff was friendly enough. The soft serve ice cream was ready quickly but the scoop took a minute. There isn't any seating but the ice cream is convenient to eat on the go. Also this dad joke in the sign is so bad... Back in Downtown San Francisco and it's hot in the city. San Francisco is having a heatwave this week and there a few places where you can enjoy a dessert inside some air conditioning with seats and tables and steps outside where can layout on artificial turf grass and enjoy the shade . It's inside and outside the Metreon food court there is a place where you cool off and enjoy a tasty cold ice cream dessert. Uji Time dessert has lots of flavors to choose from and I wanted to try two in particular. White peach and Watermelon. The White peach ice cream in a cup( I have a hunch there may have hint of vanilla ) was so refreshing . I was feeling refresh and it was not too sweet as I like that way. The flavor was as almost eating a slice of a cold white peach fruit with an ice cream kick to it. The watermelon ice cream was on a Taiyaki cone and it smooth and not so sweet. It's a more light watermelon taste (with a lite bubble gum taste). Uji Time is the first place in San Francisco and the Bay Area to offer the Taiyaki soft cream. When it's time to refresh go to Uji Time Dessert in the heart of Downtown San Francisco. I've been to two other Uji Time locations, and they've always been fairly consistent. No surprise that this one was solid as well. However, this location has slightly fewer options. There wasn't any black sesame soft serve, and there were fewer options for toppings. The nice thing is that there was no line here on a weekend around 7:30pm. Service was friendly and quick as well. read more

This Uji Time is right at the entrance of Metreon if you're entering from the street level (and not the park area). It's a bit small but they definitely have all the options and flavors of a typical Uji Time storefront. There's usually two workers so if there are those moments where there's 3-6 groups waiting for an order, there can be an extra 10-15 minute wait depending on what was ordered. I love their soft serve and their portions are quite generous. I usually just get the soft serve in a cup as the soft serve melts quite quickly in the taiyaki and turns it soggy. read more

It's so cold out here but I needed to try this & did not disappoint!! Better than somi somi it's located inside of food court next to target! Stopped by Friday after work. No wait at all. My husband heard about Uji selling lychee ice cream pints at some grocery stores and so we stopped by to see if they had any. The staff told us they had sold out. It's been a while since I had Uji and I didn't even know they sold pints aside from soft serve and taiyaki. We were about to leave when the staff said if we liked fruity ice cream, we might like the goji berry because it also has lychee. It was such a great recommendation! We loved it. It actually has more lychee flavor than goji. It was $5.50 for a 5oz cup. Sweet tooth craving satisfied! read more

I don't even know what to say about this. There are no analogous experiences. I was the most feckless, ridiculous customer ever. I didn't know how to order, I pushed a button and canceled my transaction, and I changed my order after the fact. I also am pretty sure I broke their receipt machine just by standing near it. I had no idea what I was doing; I just knew there were insane smells and some kind of cronchy biscuit fish and ice cream and that I NEEDED SOME. In the afterworld, if you've lived a good life, kissed many puppies and defended the sacred lake with a band of noble friends, this is what they serve you for dessert. read more

Can't tell you when the last time I stepped inside the Metreon, a convenient destination for conventioneers, tourists, and neighborhood workers and residents. Carmina R. (https://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=BjtT6RMVXSvf0_rH_htDvg) recently informed everyone about a great #415 promotion which prompted my visit here with a coworker on the last day of the promotion. We entered the building from the side entrance on 4th Street to find this stand to be the first one to the left. I explained the promotion to my coworker and, being her first Uji experience, told her to try the taiyaki menu item. I enjoyed my coned ice frozen delight as we walked back to the office. Since it is summer, you may want to find a place to sit and eat instead as the soft serve was running down the napkin wrapping the cone and onto my fingers... SF summers aren't supposed to be this warm... My coworker had the same issue but she really enjoyed the matcha ice cream as she felt it was less sweet than most other green tea ice creams out there. Friendly servers who gave me a taste of the honey dew melon before I ordered. I enjoyed the ube flavor very earthy and the honey dew melon was not too overpowering. They make the waffle cones on site which is always a good sign. This location is right next to Yerba Buena Gardens and this ice cream was a refreshing break from the Dance Day at YBG. read more

Solid Taiyaki soft serve spot -- Got the matcha with red bean & matcha powder + rice pearls. Matcha had great flavor but not as good as the one from matcha cafe maiko Gave it 4 stars because the taiyaki itself was a bit stale (but could have been because I got this at 8pm before they were closing). All in all would recommend if you are looking for this specialty dessert :) read more

Last year Yelp had an event at Uji Time in Japantown. We could get a free ice cream. I had the tayaki cone for the first time. Today I was at the Metreon area and I saw the tayaki fish and I decided to have the tayaki koi fish cone with matcha. It came with red bean filling and pocky/wafer. It was really fun and I am hooked on tayaki cones with matcha. Not overpriced. read more

The flavor of ube and lychee was good but it was rather icee and not creamy. I tried it i japantown but never thought it was icee. Service was great. They tried to help me make up my mind which flavor. Im afraid people dont know its there. It's a tiny little space. read more
Is Uji Time like Hammer Time? Probably not because u can touch this but I can't find my balloon pants. This offshoot of the rapidly expanding chain inspired by Japanese sweets shops. It appears to be a magnet for euthanasia... err, I mean the youth of Asia, because they appear to be the most regular customers. I'm not youthful, not by a long shot, but I am Asian last time I checked and I've been to the tiny kiosk at the Metreon twice now. If having the soft serve in a taiyaki cone is critical to you, it'll cost you $7.25, which struck me as steep for such an idiosyncratic treat. That's why the $4.75 cup was fine for me. I don't need the extra calories of a waffle cone...do I? First time I visited, I tried the Lavender because that was all they had left (photo: http://bit.ly/39Dskkq). Came here for Tuesday night dessert. Located inside a food court. Ordered the matcha sesame swirl in cup, around$5. Matcha flavor is not strong like the sesame. Smooth texture and not too sweet. Would totally come back for more. read more

Sometimes I have a strong craving for red bean taiyaki without the extra sweetness from ice cream/soft serve. I asked if they had just taiyaki without ice cream & was excited when they said yes. I was served a cold "waffle" with some red bean scooped on sides of the opened mouth taiyaki. I have seen other places similar to Uji time that serve the (closed mouth) non-ice cream version of taiyaki. I'm not really a fan of their original product as it is too sweet for me. Don't think I would return here. read more
