So, my sister in law has been coming to UKI hair studio for years (10+). She's been recommending for me to come here for a long minute and I haven't because I didn't see many reviews or photos on Yelp. Due to COVID, I couldn't go to my regular stylist because by the time COVID happened my stylist was on maternity leave and so many places were closed. So, once the state allowed hair salons to open up again I decided to check out UKI. Polland the owner was the first male I ever let cut my hair. So, I was quite nervous. But when you haven't had a hair cut in 8 months and need one badly you are willing to try anything right? I called and made an appointment for a same day appointment. Upon entering he took my temperature and gave me sanitizer. We both wore our mask the whole time. Polland was there by himself. He locked the door as well so no one can walk in. I felt super safe and I wished describe to you how good the hair wash was. There's no words to describe how good it felt. I loved the shampoo and conditioner he used as well. They smelled so good! I have never had a stylist that cut my hair like him before. His technique was definitely different from my previous experiences. I have side bangs and usually 90% of the stylist I go to even ones that I often return to messes up on my bangs. It's usually too short or just looks terrible and I walk out feeling miserable. I would clip my bangs to the side until they grow. The way he trimmed it was also much different from others and I was like okay, it looks good now but I knew that once I washed my hair on my own and style it, it'll look terrible. I actually walked off thinking man the bangs look super chopping and weird (only when you comb it down) but strangely enough once you put it to the side it looked really good. I was super surprised! So, all in all what I am trying to say is Polland is awesome and just trust his skills. I definitely will be coming back to him! 2 thumbs up from this Yelper! Ladies! Do not come here for a haircut from Bernice. Polland's wife...(POLLAND IS SHADY ) I called for an appointment, polland asked who i want. I had polland before he can cut when he is in the mood but he SEVERELY burned my scalp from bleach a while back. (honestly, it is my fault thinking how bad can a haircut be after all this time... plus it is so close to my house and they accept same day appointment) So, I said someone GOOD. My God, it is uneven from the back and super outdated. I specifically said leave room for me to tie my hair up. I had so many experiences with messed up haircuts, so I want length to tie it up. No, length the back is so unevenly messed up, and now i can't even tie it up. Super disappointed again. I guess they aren't short of business and don't care about your request. Polan does an amazing job at shaping, layering trimming, and thinning my thick frizzy hair! I felt embarrassed at first because I know how much of a challenge my hair can be but he was very professional, didn't judge and most importantly made me feel beautiful after he was finished. Every time I had questions, he would always answer them with confidence which gained my trust. He's absolutely my go-to hairstylist especially when I need him to fix a mistake that a previous hairstylist made on my hair. This review is long overdue. Due to COVID-19 affecting tons of small business, I have a strong urge to support small business that I have used in the past by writing an authentic review. Polland is a master in hair styling. I was looking for a change in hairstyle back in 2015, (Yes I have been here for the past 5 years!) He recommended perming and coloring my hair. I was very skeptical at first as I have never permed my hair ever before as a guy. I may not have the technical knowledge to describe the process but the result was beyond satisfaction. Before I start, allow me to apologize for such a long review. I appreciate all the readers. I have lots of respect for hair stylists. I mean why not right? After all, they are the ones who make us look good and boost our confidence level. I have seen many hair stylists who are both creative, hard working, and most importantly respectful to their customers. Because I have lots of respect for them, I don't usually talk to hair stylists as a "customer" but rather a "friend" or an "observer" of art who is there to appreciate their artistic skills. With that being said, let me start the story. I have been going to Uki Hair Studio for the past 3 years. In the beginning, it was Tri who took care of me most of the time. Since the pandemic hit, Tri decided to work somewhere else (according to Polland), and I then started to let Polland take care of my hair. I usually get a perm and a cut. During my visits, Polland and I would chat about all sorts of current events as well as life. It was fun and all until Polland made me feel disrespected a couple of times when I tried to schedule an appointment with him on LINE. I usually schedule my appointment on LINE instead of calling because I understand that hair stylists can get busy, and calling might distract them from doing their work. I even asked Polland if he would prefer that I call to make an appointment or just simply LINE him, and he said whichever way works. As I mentioned earlier, Polland made me feel disrespected a couple of times, but the very last time I tried to schedule an appointment with him, that was my last straw. It ended with me no longer wish to give my business to Uki Hair Studio. I first messaged him to see how he's doing and asked him how's the business. The message was not read at all. 3 hours later, I then said I'd like to schedule an appointment with you for cut and perm. Then all of a sudden my messages were read by him. Even then, I got no response at all. Finally, after a whole day of not receiving any response, I then asked if it would be convenient to come in during such day/time. Without apologizing or anything, Polland responded with two simple messages, "yes" and "see you". I thought that was quite rude and impolite. Now don't get me wrong, like I said earlier I understand things can get busy for hair stylists, which is why I use LINE instead of calling so that they can get back to me when they're free. I must also mention those three messages that I sent were hours apart. In short, as much as I respect hair stylists and all, I do care about their business etiquette. Polland could have responded me with a greeting first since I first greeted him in my messages, and at least apologize for not responding to my request to schedule an appointment for the whole day. If I show you politeness and respect, I do ask that you do the same. Polland is an average hair stylist (Opinions on beauty can be both objective and subjective, I know that). He is good, but not wow to the point that he can make the people who take care of his local business feel utterly disrespected. Let me put it this way, every time I try to make an appointment, it was like I'm asking him for a huge favor or something, and it really shouldn't be that way. Looks like Uki's standards have dropped. I had my hair cut last week by Bernice. I walked in and saw that the studio was rather empty (only two other clients in chairs and two hairstylists sitting around on their phones). The hair wash was great, as usual. Unfortunately, the haircut was bad. Pretty fucking bad. I told Bernice that I wanted my hair to be a bit past my shoulders (which she complied to) and I wanted some layering done (I said "some" because I didn't want to look like a cotton ball and have weird bent hair if I didn't style it everyday... some of you will know what I mean). She seemed to take that VERY literally and just... didn't layer my hair. Like, for real. I guess she cleaned up the edges but honestly? It was terrible. Bernice basically cut my hair straight across and cleaned it up a bit but it really didn't look like anything special. It was something I could've gotten done at Supercuts and it would've been cheaper too. In fact, she didn't even ask me if I liked it at the end. After handing me the mirror and taking the cape off, she scuttled over to the cash register without another word. She took maybe 35ish minutes on it. Not even close to an hour, for sure. What the fuck was that about? My biggest regret was tipping her so much ($40 base + $10). Ugh. What was I even thinking? I am so sour. The worst part is that when I got home, I was so ridiculously upset that I drove down to Irvine the next day to meet up with a friend who was a cosmetology student so that she could check it out. Apparently, Bernice didn't even cut my hair straight! It was CROOKED in length and in what little layering there was. What the fuck? Okay, even if you didn't give me as much layering as I wanted, you: 1. Didn't even ask me what I thought of it or if you could touch up anything else. 2. IT WAS CROOKED. It wasn't even. It was not straight. You could've at least done that but you screwed even *that* up. I've been to Uki twice before and have left feeling pretty happy about my hair. This time, I am sorely disappointed. This was just such a bizarre experience. I am never coming back here again. What a waste of money. read more

Just got my hair trimmed here today. It looked great. They pay attention to the details. My haircut took about 40 minutes. They usually play some nice concert DVDs on their TVs here. There is a waiting area too. I was referred here by my cousin, then I referred it to my boyfriend. He loves it here and has been coming for haircut ever since. His hair stylist is Bernice. I used to have Yan to cut my hair, but since Yan is out for vacation, I had Bernice to cut for me. read more

I have had a haircut and dye with Yan and a dye only with Belinda. Both experiences have been great. The color always matches the sample they showed me, and I'm happy with the finished result. The only con here is that the price is high (Dye is $80+ and does not include a haircut which can be $40+.) However, I still think it is worth it because you're paying for their exceptional skill and to not risk looking bad. When ever I have a photoshoot, filming something or have an important event, I always come here. Polland never disappoints me. I have been coming here for years now and have changed many styles within the years, but every style Polland has given me, I was always happy with it. He really pays close attention to detail and listens to his clients. He is a natural when it comes to hair styles, espcially with Asian hair. He's entire staff here is very friendly and always makes sure the clients are well taken care of. Only down side about this place is that it could get pretty expensive. This is my first time writing a Yelp review. I usually don't get this upset about things that I have to take my time and let others know. I came to this place two weeks ago and I haven't got time to sit down and write this. I decided to give this place a try because my stylist went on a long vacation and I needed a haircut badly. After a quick search on Yelp, the five-star hair studio seemed promising so I called to get an appointment. I showed up at the appointment time and noticed that it's rather empty for a five-star place. I told them it was my first time at the place and one of the guys sitting down walked up to me and sat me down, without even introducing himself. I also had to ask him to bring me the book to choose a style from. After a long discussion, we finalized on something so he told me to get my hair washed. The assistant who did it was rather professional. The hair wash was the only satisfying part of my visit. Back to the seat, the guy started cutting my hair, BY QUARTER INCHES. I've gotten haircuts from $25-$60 and I know there's definitely something wrong with this. However, I decided to let him do what he does and thought maybe it'll turn out okay. After cutting the sides and back, he told me to get another hair wash. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. My bangs and the top of my hair was untouched and it looked like he cut my hair with a saw. I told him what was wrong and he started again, still by quarter inches. It took him an hour and a half to get my hair to something that I could bare with. I'm pretty sure it was worse than a random barber shop on the street and that would probably be $10 instead of $30. There was edges on the side of my hair and the thickness was uneven throughout. Not sure why such a place is getting 5-star reviews. Maybe I just didn't get the right person to do my hair. read more

I used to have my hair cut with bernice. I wanted to dye my hair so i asked her to do it for me. I sat there for almost 4 hrs...but u know what... At the end i got my black hair darken....wth..i told her i want purple..at first, after dying, my hair was red and i was pissed so i told her i dont like it i wanted purple not red, then she said shes gonna do it again and let the purole color goes.out. i trusted her so i let her do it and at the end..... Love my new hairdo. My hair was down to my waist and I wanted to donate it so I had the hair stylist cut it to where I wanted my length to be. It came out a little shorter than I expected but I ended up loving how my hair flows, the layers and style. I first arrived 15 minutes late but they were very kind and courteous. I told the stylist Polland I wanted to donate my hair and he was quite quick and swift with measuring and cutting it out. Then I had my hair washed which was awesome. Nice scalp massage. After the wash I showed Polland a few pictures of the cut I wanted but my hair was too short from the initial cut for donation. Nonetheless, Polland said he knew what kind of style I liked given from the few pictures I showed him. I must admit I was a little skeptical but as he cut my hair, I began liking it more and more. He is thorough with measuring the length on both sides to make sure it was even and no blades were used. When he finished cutting my hair, it was already dried. He had the shampoo guy washed my hair once over again and then styled it was wax mousse which they sell there. I enjoyed their service and most of all I came out happy with my cut and style. Price is affordable considering I've been to salons in Venice, Pasadena, San Marino and San Gabriel. If you go there, I recommend bringing a few styles of what you like so that the hairstylist can get a sense of what type of hair cut you prefer. read more

I had been going here for about 2 years, every two weeks I get a cut with Bernice. My experience with her is pretty satisfying. She has always asked me how I want my hair style and how I like it after . Her assistant is also good, she gave me the best shampoo experience ever. I had been to other salons with this price range and I will tell you that the level of service is not comparable to these guys. These guys are compassionate with what they do and cares about their customers. They are not always busy but some weekends they are, especially on Saturdays. However you should get a appointment slot if you call a day in advance. I'm the type that schedule last minute almost every time but some weekends they are booked.
