Went in to spend my birthday money and every single turn I made in the store was met with an employee asking if I was "finding everything okay." I felt very uncomfortable because it was obvious they were following me around, I was afraid to reach into my bag for my phone to use my calculator so I could keep track of what I was getting. I got very anxious and shakey even though I didn't do anything wrong, I was hoping this would be a fun little makeup shopping spree that would make me feel better after a terrible week but all this did was add on to the stress. Ulta is definitely my go-to beauty store both because they carry all of my favorite products but because it is just an easier option than going to the mall. Yay for less parking stress. Seriously I will panic and leave if a parking situation is too much. I feel like overall the staff is friendly, I usually don't accept help as I know what I'm there for. The store is always clean but I definitely don't trust the samples because you never know. The one thing I will note is they are always low on perfume but you can always order that online. read more

Got a call 2 hours before my appointment with "Savannah" - cancelling because she wouldn't have time. She mumbled something about the app double booking her, but earlier during the "consult" call she made references to not having time then - why wait hours later to cancel when I wouldn't be able to make other arrangements? So this review is based on my latest experience in reading the other reviews about staff asking if I needed anything now I'm double questioning my experiences the other times. Regardless this one is solely for one of the staff people there. I was looking for foundation and and she must've noticed my hopeless face because she made an effort to help me. She took the time to try like 4 or 6 different foundations on my skin till we found the perfect match! That has never happened before it was always a close match or it would look off that I hadn't been willing to dish out money on a near match foundation. But thanks to this person she double checked the foundations for my undertone and maybe it wasn't that big of a deal at the point or it's what they're supposed to do I don't know but it meant a lot that she didn't try to rush the process! read more

Not a single person asked if they could help me. Then to top it off I was confused about where the line was because there was no one standing in line ahead of me just one at the counter checking out. One customer appeared in line on the other side and even though the cashier "NIA" saw me standing there the entire time I had started walking up and she was going to call the customer that appeared after me. She made sure to tell me the line was on the other side with an attitude. She was rude the entire transaction and seemed like a miserable employee. Probably shouldn't be the cashier there because she extremely miserable looking to work there. read more

I made a last minute appointment at Ulta for makeup prior to attending a formal event, and the employee who applied my makeup, while friendly, was not skilled in this arena. There is an artistry to assessing a client, matching color shades to skin tones, and doing it all in a timely manner. I ultimately wound up redoing my eye makeup before leaving for my event that afternoon. I wish them well, but there are definitely other businesses that attend to the makeup application service with better skill. This was the third time I'd gone to Ulta for makeup application. I love this place! My wallet absolutely hates it when I come in here but the staff is knowledgeable and kinda I don't mind spending a little more to know what I got works for me. I spent hours in here working out a foundation for my dry skin that wouldn't make me look like the Sahara Desert and would help maintain moisture! I got into using hydrating sprays from Urban Decay before my moisturizer to help my skin maintain some semblance of dewy complexion. The manager took her time to help me find the perfect liquid lipstick to wear to my friends wedding! This is the only place other than my hairstylist that carries Redken products and they tend to have sales on them which makes me happy because they are not cheap. Sad that they don't carry Kat Von D because then this would be one stop shopping for me. read more

I was serviced by at least 4 different associates but not in an annoying way... 1.) colorful gentleman with decorative eye makeup suggested food places for my mom and me - we aren't from around here so it was helpful! 2.) another gal in harem pants noticed I seemed bewildered and she was right - I needed sheet masks cause this desert weather is killing my skin. Moisture therapy 101 - she pointed me in the direction of sheet masks so I got 4! 3.) couldn't find travel size lotion so another gal (I assume a managerial position) told me to try the Ulta brand and even sprayed a scent on her arm - said it was her favorite. It was nice! 4.) Gal cashier mentioned the lotions were buy 2 get 2 free so she helped me get 2 for 4! Hooked it up :) Not mad! I love Ulta and everyone here was clearly enjoying their job and just wanted everyone else to enjoy the vibes too. This is one of the first additions to open in the new Winrock shopping area and I couldn't be happier it's here! I've been to quite a few Ulta stores in the country and this definitely has one of the best selections out there. Sally Hansen, the Body Shop, NYX, Benefit, and so much more. The customer service was fantastic and I found what I needed right away. I was in and out quickly. One of the bigger perks to shopping at Ulta is their rewards program, completely free! This place is horrible, the staff is extremely rude makes it hard to ask questions because it feels like I'm inconveniencing them. I took my niece here to shop, she came all the way from Georgia to visit her family and I wanted to show her a good time. The staff was very unpleasant, I didn't want to ask questions because I was so uncomfortable. I even complimented one of the staff and she completely ignored me. I dont like that I felt so uncomfortable just trying to have fun and shop. Honestly if the staff hates there job that bad then they should quit, who ever owns this store is doing a horrible job. This is the last time I will go to this store, I ended up taking my niece to target and having a much better experience. I normally LOVE Ulta especially the one at cottonwood mall BUT this one literally sucked. I was supposed to get freebies for how much I was spending (which is a ton) and instead the cashier tried to charge me for them and didn't even know that I get freebies. I also had cash in points on my account which she didn't even offer to apply to my purchase. They literally had no care in the world for the customers experience. Not only that but having the makeup makeover station right when you walk in is embarrassing for any customer who is paying for a makeover when 50 people are walking in and judging right off of the bat. I went in July to the Winrock Albuquerque location to have a root dye and took my granddaughter for a haircut. Susan did both services and we were pleased. I made another appointment for a complete dye job and haircut with Susan (who only works on Fridays in the salon). The day before my appointment, Aubrey called and left a message that Susan would be out and I'd have to reschedule. Unfortunately, Susan's next available appointment was 2.5 weeks away. Anyone who dyes their hair knows that is not going to work. I called several salons (Mesh etc...), but no one had an available appointment. I then went back to the Ulta salon website and made an appointment with Cristian. Of course the next available was over a week away. Meanwhile my gray is completely out and getting worse by the day. Today, the day of the appointment, Aubrey calls me again and cancels as Cristian has called out sick. Of course no one else is available. What kind of customer service is this? Now I'm back calling desperately around ABQ trying to find an appointment. Thanks a lot Ulta. You are the worst. read more

They're often out of stock on standard and sale items, and in need of a good organizing despite being a relatively new location. I ALWAYS have to ask about promos or free gift specials when checking out, and cashiers feign ignorance about them. Out of promo gifts 2 days into a sale?? Lame. Return policies and regular coupon specials are decent, and their rewards system is actually worthwhile. Usually gotta dodge the overwhelming perfume section, and the music is WAY too loud. So I am thankful for this new location since it is closer to my home. Today was my first experience in here and it wasn't terrible, something's were out of place like it happens in all stores. But the star subtraction happened at the checkout counter. The employee was a little rude when walking away and when she returned the attitude did not change much. This is a review for the brow service. I don't know the name of the gentleman who did my brows, but he was fantastic -- turned my furry centipedes into elegant but still full shapes that complimented my face. He didn't upsell, actually talked me out of a doing a tint because of the scar in one eyebrow. Upon my request, he pointed me to the perfect brow pencil and the best concealer (tarte amazon clay) to highlight the new shape. Minus one star for the brutal interrogation lamps in the beauty room. read more

Just wanted an eyebrow waxing which takes 5 min MAX. I came in and asked to get them done and was told you're a walk in you'll have to wait about 20 min and was put in an EMPTY schedule book. I proceeded to walk around the store and for 30 plus minutes the lady who was going to do my eyebrows did not have a single client but was chatting and doing touch ups on a CO WORKER. I'm very displeased that a simple job could've been done and over with but i had to wait while an employee dicked around. Never again. UPDATE I NEVER GOT CALLED FOR MY APPOINTMENT. read more
