Products are great and Oregon not having sales tax is a huge win, that alone makes a stop worth it. But the operation at this store could use some TLC. Walked in to a floor full of staff and only one person working the front. While I waited, that employee spent a solid five minutes trying to upsell a credit card to a "loyal customer" instead of acknowledging the line forming behind her. The manager was visible on the floor but somehow not available to jump on a second register or help move things along. This is a basic staffing and floor awareness issue. You don't let a line stack up while your one cashier runs a sales pitch, and a manager's job at peak moments is to see that and step in. Giving this two stars because the product selection is genuinely strong and the tax free pricing is unbeatable. Fix the front end flow and this becomes a five star stop. read more

I used to get my haircut at the Ulta salon over by Washington Square for at least the last decade. My stylist has since left so I thought I'd try the Tanasbourne location since it's closer to where I live. I have scheduled three haircuts, but only actually been able to get my haircut one time. One of my appointments was canceled with no notice and no offer to reschedule. And my last appointment was moved without any consultation on if the new time worked for me. The one cut I did receive went relatively well. My stylist was polite and did a nice job. However, the other stylists around the salon were extremely unprofessional. It's just too much of a hassle to get an appointment to then sit uncomfortably for an hour around rude people. I won't be trying again. read more

I have been a long time customer of Ulta. Today I asked your "beauty consultant" named Emma about the Amika product line. She pretty much told me that my hair looked like shit and tried to upsell me the products. I just had my hair done a week ago, my hairstylist does a beautiful job and that's the first time in many years that anyone has told me that about my hair. Besides being rude, you just don't say that to customers. Less is more. I should've talked to the manager at the time, but I was a little taken back by this girl's rudeness. An Employee at this location, automatically assumed me and my girlfriend were stealing when in reality, all I was doing was putting my wallet in her purse. Even after we told her it was my wallet she still tried to accuse us of putting something else in her purse. After she realized it was my wallet she just walked on like nothing happened. No apology or nothing and still proceeded to make us uncomfortable by following us around. We talked to a manager and all she told us was that she'll talk to her! I like this Ulta . Its well stocked , the staff is super sweet and knowledgeable and have always helped me find things that I am looking for or alternates . Its never too crowded so I get peaceful shopping time . The inventory is almost always up to date . There is plenty of parking out front and additionally since its located at a spot where there so many other stores you don't have to drive too long just for this one . read more

I find Ulta overwhelming, the same way I find Costco can be overwhelming unless I'm there to make a big hall. There are so many sections and within each section, more options than is needed. Maybe it's because I don't wear a lot of make up - when I do it's just mascara, eyeliner + shadow, eyebrow powder and blush - and so when I need something, I pretty much know what I want and its easier just to go to Walgreens. For skin care, I just use Clinique extra surge moisturizer and they carry that, and it's one of the only stores outside of makeup counters at Macys or Nordstrom's that does. In addition to make up and nail Polish, they carry shampoo, conditioner and every kind of tool and accessory for your hair. In the back there is even a salon. Lots of nail polish, nail accessories and files, body lotions including sun protection, and perfumes. Probably my favorite thing at Ulta is the smaller purse size perfume bottles of high end brands like Dolce & Gabbana. For $20, I buy one for my gym bag and one for my handbag. It's also a great way to try out a new fragrance without committing to a large bottle for $100. And of course lots of spontaneous purchases on the long waiting line to check out. Cute pink make up sponges, purse size lotions, tiny bottles of nail Polish, lip balm, small hairbrushes- so many items that you need but arent a necessity. Those working there always ask if I need assistance but on days when the store is crowded it can be hard to find someone if you are lost in an aisle. Best is to say yes when they ask as you are entering the store. They can guide you to the right section and make helpful recommendations based on your needs and wants. Now that Lloyd Center Ulta closed, I stop here when in the area and if I need something specific. It's far safer, too! read more

I went in today very upset. I have a school dance tonight and I had an acne breakout on my chest and back. I was feeling very insecure and devastated, ending up crying in the store. All the workers rushed to assure me I was beautiful, and that they would take care of me. They helped me come up with a plan that would cover up my breakout as best as possible. She answered every question i had and made sure i was fully confident in every item before we moved on. She was extremely kind and easy to talk to as well. Disappointed in my haircut. I asked for at least an one and a half inches to be removed and I honestly think he only took off about a half inch. I went to the Ulta at Washington square in the past and had a wonderful experience. The Ulta at Tanasbourne needs help with customer service. Staff talk with each other while they are cutting your hair and it makes it impossible to actually get the cut you want. I paid way over what I should have for a tiny trim. Needless to say I am going to have to go elsewhere and pay more money to ensure I receive the haircut I want. Now ... you ask why I didn't say something during the appointment, I wasn't able to get a word in at all and I often worry about somebody taking offense to me not liking the cut and then having to ask them to redo or improve the current cut. I don't want to offend anybody, I just wanted my hair cut, not a tone trim. My stylist was nice, but did not appear confident with their skills. Maybe this individual needs more practice. Well ... ULTA used to be one of my favorite places to shop. I still have my "club at ULTA" card, which probably has a new look by now. My club card is still valid here but it doesn't get used nearly as often as in the past. So why is ULTA no longer one of my favorite places to shop? Times have changed and ULTA hasn't. The prices at ULTA are the manufacturers set prices. But a lot of what they sell is now available at discount stores. Yes, I have purchased Bare Minerals, Too Faced, Anastasia and many other well known brands of cosmetics at the off-price stores. The selection may be limited but the savings are great. The only way to get customers to shop at full price is to offer great customer service. Here at ULTA that happens some of the time but not always. I have frequently walked around the entire store browsing for a half hour without one single hello from an employee. Most often they seem to be engaged in a gabfest amongst themselves. Department stores like Nordstrom and Macy's have a much larger variety of fragrances and since the price is the same where's the incentive to visit ULTA? I still stop by ULTA every so often to browse. But I don't leave with that bright colored bag as often as I once did. read more

Went to Ulta for years, various locations, including Ulta in Tanasbourne for past four years. Have always enjoyed kind clerks, associates, salon workers. There was one great stylist who I saw who moved from this one to another one, so for a while I followed her, but stopped wanting to travel. Came back here to the closer Ulta, took a rec for my particular hair for a new stylist named Laura from another in-house stylist. It was great! I was pleased. Time passed, I called back. I set up a second appointment (four weeks in advance to be respectful). Days before the appointment I received a text that the appointment is canceled and instructing me to rebook. I call to rebook. to rebook with Laura. i ask how it got canceled and this person tells me that there's a service they use that "double books." I am told "there are plenty of appointments on the same day." I pick one. I confirm the stylist, but it's not Laura. Then I told her this was not very nice... this text, a service that double books (?), the cancellation a few days before an appointment set a month ago, telling me there's plenty of appointments but not saying they're with others. So she hung up. No she didn't. Yep. I call back and there is no store manager available, only a sales manager for the day. I explain what happened. She says she'll look into it. I told her I definitely want to speak to the store's general manager in all cases. She promises when the general manager is back she will have her call. Crickets. So although I had liked Ulta for various needs for years. No more. And guess what? I discovered you can pay the same prices to go to a stellar independently-owned salon and get even more personalized service with mutual respect. read more

Chrystal Q at the salon was incredibly rude to my 9 year old nephew. She called his hair "disgusting" "too thick for clippers" he's got thick hair but it's well kept and clean. We went in for the "kids haircut" something he's been getting for a few years now and she looked at him straight in his eyes and said "wow, you're an enormous 9 year old" while rolling her eyes. Both of his parents are over 6'3. He's tall. He started to tear up as she was yanking at his head and calling him disgusting. Myself and another guest both said "excuse me?!" I asked my nephew to stand up and that we were leaving. He left in tears and kept asking me why his hair is disgusting. It's not. So I guess Chrystal didn't feel like working that day. We did notice that none of her appointments were taken up so maybe that's a sign. We should have stuck to his normal stylist but needed a cut today. Lesson learned. So Chrystal if you're reading this. Be better. Do better. Don't you ever shame another a child again. To the managers I spoke with on the phone, please re-educate this person. It's going to take months and months of work to get my nephew comfortable with the idea of having a haircut again. I placed an order online for curbside pickup...you'd think that was easy but you'd be wrong. I pull up to a spot that said curbside pickup. Followed the email instructions and waited. After waiting 10 minutes I called the store...no one picked up. After 20 minutes of waiting I called again and this time the line was busy. I called customer service who refused to cancel the order and said the charge would drop off after 5 days...5 days! Totally unacceptable. Will NEVER go to any Ulta location again. I went in on my birthday to do a shopping spree, and noticed that there were only a few people in the store who were being helped. No one asked me if I needed any help but I noticed the more I was putting in my basket the more I was being followed and watched like I was about to steal something. Having worked 16 years in retail I know what watching a shop lifter looks like so I am sad to say it was very obvious. It wouldn't have been so bad if the employees including the manager on duty, didn't greet and help every other person who walked in except for me. What a cluster f*** of a store! I usually avoid Ulta because it's overpriced but in my new neighborhood, it was the place to find this item I needed. There were several duplicated sections, like nails or bath products for example and so many missing products from the shelves as well. I try to buy makeup from time to time, but it is not something I really enjoy doing, or am very Apt at doing either. But, this location of Ulta Beauty-company helps to make that process a little less painful or me. The staff is nice and friendly, and they will help you within reason. (It took me awhile to figure out that when a sale-rep walks by and asks "Do you need help with anything?" That I should answer "yes" instead of my default "No, I'm just browsing" like I tend to say in retail situations. THey have helped significantly with product selection and make it a lot less overwhelming when I walk in the door. Historically, I used to buy my beauty products from Sephora, but I happened to catch the Ellen Degeneres show one day, last all, and there was a competition and prize and it involved a huge Donation to WOmen's breast cancer research. I don't remember the exact amount if it was $50, 000 or $500, 000. But, I was very impressed that it was the actual RESEARCH aspect, and not just the komen-charity that focuses more on outreach. I thought that was really progressive of Ulta Beauty to make that donation, and so that is why I personally chose Ulta Beauty over different beauty stores. read more

I rarely get my nails done (prefer other ways to spend any disposable income, but someday when I am uber successful I will add it to the routine) and I never ever get my hair done (too many bad experiences), so I can't comment on the salon. I can, however, comment on the store itself. First and most importantly, the staff is great just as they are in Beaverton, their very helpful and friendly, this includes Chelsea the manager and Booi, I love her name I may be misspelling it though. Staff makes sure to greet every single person who walks in the door. I avoid the Tualatin store as much as possible even though it's closest to home because there was a really rude guy that worked there. Though I think he may be gone, there is now an older lady with a smokers voice who barks at customers. She's so disrespectful, I can't believe she's still there. There are a lot more drugstore brands here than you will find in Walgreens, Freddies or Rite Aid, including NYX. The sales are on the non "prestige" makeup. I mostly buy drugstore brands there, it's rare that a higher end will come out with something I can't find a drugstore dupe and that I absolutely need. The sales last 3 weeks at a time, you get a circular in the mail like you would at a drugstore showing you the sales. Plus you get a $3.50 off coupon to use in the mail, sometimes $5 off, in combination with the current sale, and that's some good savings. read more

This store has the rudest customer service. Not 1 person asked me if I needed help. At least 4 people walked by me. I was basically the only customer in the store. I was buying 2 hair products worth over $60. The cashier asked if I wanted to put my number in and I said No thank you. She then pushed again w "friends and family reward". I said No thank you. She proceeded to explain the benefits... I said Ma'am. Please can you just ring me up. I come to this Ulta pretty frequently, more often than most guys would probably like to admit. The staff is kind,they have great return policy and their selection of cosmetic stuff is pretty large. I mostly buy nail polish, eye liner, lipstick and other such things for my girlfriend. I usually buy myself conditioner and shampoo when it is on sale. Again, the return policy is fantastic, we've never been turned down on an exchange or return. The service is sometimes slow if they don't have enough people manning the terminals but they usually call more staff to the front before it gets too bad. I have never used the salon services, so I can't comment on that. I also don't usually shop in the higher end area of the store. Their fragrance selection is extensive, but again I haven't made a purchase in that section. The male specific product zone has grown in recent years but most of the products seem overpriced, to be honest. One last note, ultra sends a lot of $3.50 off coupons and 10-20% off discounts to their members so you should probably sign up if you want to get your money's worth at this store. read more

Pretty much I want to the salon and saw Luz, she did everything to my hair I told her not to do. I kept squinting my eyes trying not to cry the entire time, and rushed out of there before she even gave me the mirror to look. I know, you're thinking "why didn't she say anything there?" I have anxiety issues, and telling her exactly what I wanted was hard enough. Not to mention during the cut I also said some things, all she did was smile and kept doing it. When I called I got ahold of the store manager and she said when I left I was "happy" with the service according to what the salon manager said. Apparently the salon manager was at the station next to us. The salon manager obviously was not paying attention, although we did make eye contact when I was about to burst into tears, but me about to cry I guess means I'm happy in their world. My feeling we're dismissed, they didn't care at all. The store manager was rude and kept talking over me when I was expressing my concerns. If the salon manager ever calls me back, I am I have spots missing in my hair, it's not even, it's shorter than I wanted, the layers are choppy and my bangs are a inch long (I have side bangs). I called the store about 30-45 minutes after I left the store and took a good look in the comfort of my own home. I broke down into tears, this is the longest my hair has been in a year, and it was only down to a little past my ears. However, now it's to the middle of my ears! I am so depressed over this, I don't want to even leave the house. They said that the salon manager will call me in a few minutes, but that was an hour ago. She would probably just tell me that my feelings are not valid like the store manager did. I don't advise going to the salon, or having any interactions with either of the managers. Your feelings will be dismissed and your issues won't be valid. **Update. The manager finally called me back, she was sympathetic, but you can tell it wasn't genuine. She would adjust it for free if it's in the next 7 days, which to be honest, I have bald areas in my hair.. I would have to pretty much cut all my hair off. Then she said she can offer 50% off my next hair appointment that she would do herself. 1. My hair will pretty much have to be cut off entirely if it's in 7 days, at the end of the month it will at least be a tiny bit longer 2. 50% off my next hair cut, they won't even cover a full cut? 3. How could I trust them to even cut my hair again? I barely had any hair and now it looks like I'm going to have to spend another 60$ to another salon to pretty much get it all chopped. I like Ulta....I can get makeup, hair, and face product all in one location. Not too shabby. I enjoy that this location is just down the street from me rather than having to drive all the way to Cedar Hills. However, is it just me or is this location smaller? It didn't seem like they had as much as say Cedar Hills or the Gresham location...? Could have just been the way it was set up I suppose. The layout is awkward and not done very well. It's actually pretty difficult to find items. This location has the Benfit eyebrow station where you can get a quick wax. The experience was great, quick, and professional. $20 - so price is typical however I would suggest that after your wax...don't have them fill in the color. I looked slightly scary with hugely colored in arched brows. I should have taken a photo but it was not a good look. Just trust me on this one. Also, once I got home I noticed that some areas were thinned out too much and she forgot to re-wax/tweeze a few areas. Maybe she was new? Not the best wax ever, but not awful either. This place is also slightly expensive but they do tend to have good sales. I've gotten liters of Redkin for $15, or sometimes they will have them buy 2, get 1 free. If I could give this location 0 stars I would!!! I have always came to this location since I was a teen and I have never felt so disrespected in my life. I came in here with my aunt, my aunt was wearing a hoodie and apparently that was enough for them to follow us around and have us cornered. I work in customer service so I most definitely know when employees are thinking someone is stealing, we didn't have any bags on us just a hoodie my aunt wore. They would constantly follow us around and would give my aunt weird looks, at one point I went to use the restroom and my aunt over heard one of the employees say " why is she wearing a hoodie it's hot outside". There was this red headed worker there I'm assuming was the on duty manager who was constantly behind us and wouldn't leave our side, when we went to go check out she was behind the mini travel sets they place by registers motioning to the girl who was ringing me out. The girl at the register was rude towards my aunt and I and once we were done with the transaction the red headed lady ran towards the computer we just used. I'm assuming to see what my rewards number and name was on there. This interaction with all the employees left a bad taste in my mouth and honestly I don't think I'll ever be back. She was also super willing to help me find hair products to help extend my hair color as well as styling products. I've been seeing her for almost 10 months now and I don't want to see anyone else! Honestly, this is probably the worst ULTA I have been into. The girls working the floor were not helpful and ignored myself and a majority of the other customers. I was in the store for over an hour struggling to find what I came in for, and was ready to drop some serious money on new products but nobody would answer my questions. The products were disorganized, it felt extremely disorganized. The girl who checked me out was extremely rude and basically threw my bag at me... I won't be back to this location I'll make the drive to Tualatin going forward. Don't waste your time your money going here unless you know exactly what you're looking for. I started to do that then realized as I pressed the button that it said something about a credit card application. My bad for being numb to the multitude of questions credit card machines ask these days, but usually, I get asked verbally if I want to open a credit card... When I inquired, the girls was like "oh yeah it's an application for a credit card." Seeing as that I am trying to buy a house, a new credit inquiry is not desired, and I made her cancel the transaction. I let her know that was a pretty shady way to conduct business and it didn't seem like it was the first time she'd heard it. Later this evening I called the manager of the store and her blasé attitude, and the lackluster response was telling. I suggested they inform their clients what they are saying "Yes" to.
