I went to the Benefit Brow Bar at Ulta in Brentwood for the first time to get a brow wax, and I had an amazing experience! It was not my first time going to a Benefit location, but it was my first time coming to this location, as I'm new to the area. Ebony helped me out right away, and did a wonderful job with my brows. She was quick, yet thorough, and I could tell that she was taking her time to ensure that I looked my best. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this location. It's the closest one to me and whenever I visit I'm often surprised at how busy it is. I haven't ever had any negative issues here, mostly just decent experiences. Recently my daughter and I went in to get new foundation. A worker there quickly helped us both get something that matches each of us perfectly. (She didn't automatically offer to remove all the different foundation stripes on our cheeks, though...) I love Ulta for all my beauty needs from skincare to makeup. There is a larger shared parking lot. There are handicap accessible parking spaces and store entry. The store is brightly lit with clear visible signs and each location. The staff are always welcoming and helpful. The rewards program is nice for shoppers to build points toward future gifts. Terrible experience here. Last Christmas I bought some gift cards and realized that I still had a $25 card that I hadn't gifted or used. When I went to check out this past week, the clerk asked me to enter in the pin for the card and when I scratched off the protective film the PIN numbers disappeared. Clerk was aware that card had never been used, as the PIN was still covered by the protective film. I showed the clerk and manager what happened and basically was told I was SOL and to call customer service. Because I don't have the receipt from last year, they claim that I can't prove it's mine. Neither customer service nor the store manager was any help at all. So basically they have found a way to "steal" gift cards from people who have paid for them. My suggestion is to not buy any more gift cards from them as they clearly won't honor them--even when the numbers disappear through no fault of the customer. Total scam. read more

Makeup sales girl kept showing me bright colors a teenager would wear. I am over 50 and tried to explain that I need a more muted blush color. I finally found something myself, from MAC, but it was not in stock. So they ordered it for me at the front checkout.."expect delivery in a few days" they said. It has now been 9 days and tracking still says a label was generated but the order has not shipped. It has shown this status for a week now. I called customer service and talked to Maria in GUATEMALA who could not tell me anything about my delivery and said I had to wait 10 "business" days before I can cancel. Even though it hasn't shipped! I'll tell you right now if it ever does arrive it's going back to that store unopened. I no longer want it. I plan to take my business elsewhere. read more

I love the Brow Bar. Ebony does an amazing job. The only thing that gets me is the $20+ it cost to get them waxed for what I can get them done for at my nail spa/salon for $10. Same setup, same equipment, same process, same result. Hope I'm not being petty, but I believe the eyebrow waxing is a bit overpriced. No shade to Ebony. I went almost two years without having my eyebrows waxed. I didn't let them go totally wild or anything but they were basically shapeless. After deciding I was done with my caterpillar brows, I remembered reading about the Brow Bar at Ulta. I did a little digging and it sounded like a great place for me to start. My appointment was with Ebony. She is wonderful. She made me feel comfortable, explained everything she was going to do, and was great to talk to. From start to finish, brow mapping to checkout, it was the best brow waxing experience I've ever had. My eyebrows have never looked better! Ebony gave me some great tips, helped me pick out some products without being pushy, and helped me feel great about myself. Some of the perks that drew me to the Brow Bar: brow mapping, licensed aestheticians, tweezing option, very reasonable cost, and they cover up the redness for you! No one wants to walk around looking like they just got high fived in the face. I definitely recommend making an appointment with Ebony the next time you need a wax. read more

Ugh, this was kind of the worst. Giving it an extra star because the staff / brow experts were nice. But my brows were destroyed. If tiny thin 90s brows that barely resemble distant cousins (never mind sisters), then this is your spot. I've had fabulous experiences at other Benefit Brow Bars. But now my poor destroyed brows are still recovering (months later) from my experience here. So yeah, worst brow experience of my entire life. I used to get my eyebrows threaded and swore against waxing until I stepped into ULTA and met Ebony (brow specialist) and her perfect brows. I knew that someone with as nice brows as her, must be good at what she does I was immediately intrigued and decided to break my rules and try something new. I'm so glad I did because my eyebrows look AMAZING! Ebony is so good at what she does. She really makes you feel comfortable and is very personable as well. She made sure I approved of the shape before she went ahead and waxed 'em. After the waxing, she draws them in for you + adds concealer or any other minor touch up (she is super nice if you request them too). She's also helped me pick out a ton of wonderful makeup. I went into Ulta for concealer, and came out with eye cream and new brows, and happily. The issue that really needed to be dealt with was the entire look of my de-hydrated eyes! I initially asked for help, and the manager greeted me, she said "let me get Ebony to help you, she is great with this." Then along comes this gorgeously makeuped woman, and introduces herself as Ebony. She helps me with my initial request which was concealer, but I noticed tiny wrinkles enhanced under my eye when she did this. She explains that the skin under my eye is probably just dehydrated. She glops on this miracle creme (and I say glop because it was layered like carrot cake frosting, and then we go on to talk about the shape of my brow (I mentioned to her I was getting pictures taken Sunday so she was suggesting ways to enhance). She continued on and did eye brow mapping on me. Although I was very hesitant to let anyone touch my brows after they were slaughtered many ears ago, I decided to let her shape and clean up my unruly eyebrows. WOW! So glad I did. She is painless, gentle, and so good at what she does. She has a super human power to make your eyebrows delicious with barely any feeling associated with it. No pain, no stingy, just easy, and she is GOOD! No coincidence this woman is named Ebony; a fine-grained and durable wood, which made it suitable for carving. She is an artist and a master carver of the brow line! I am so impressed and grateful for her. Now when she lifted the mirror to show me my brows, I thought "whose eyes are those?!" Loved my brows, and I was taken back to the fine lines under the eye farm. The creme that was glopped on ... gone. Fine wrinkles, almost gone. I asked her if she wiped it off, and she said "no, it is absorbed." I replied that I was stunned that my eye was so hungry! This girl knows her eyes and knows her makeup. I am SO grateful I found Ebony. 5 stars all the way around, but she deserves more than just 5 stars. She deserves 11. I will be back to see her for sure, and I highly recommend a visit to her. Take Sephora, add some drugstore bands and take away the customer service and you'll have Ulta. If I'm spending $50 for 3/4 oz of crap, I'd like to at least be given the chance to tell you I don't need help. I didn't get to because none of the 6+ employees working the floor seemed interested in anything other than talking to each other. If you know what you need, can't wait for an online order and don't want to go inside the mall to get to Sephora, this place is a decent alternative. It definitely wouldn't be my first choice though. Drag your butt into the mall of you want actual assistance with your selections. By they way, it seems that they charge more for drug-store brands than places like Target. Even with their frequent discounts, you're paying a little extra here. read more

YAY! Ulta opened next to somewhere I go often! I saw an ad in my junk mail (yeah, i read that stuff o.O) and came by to buy some lip gloss (lip glaze?). The store is neat with one half being fairly cheap drug store stuff and the other half being slightly more expensive things like you might find at sephora. The staff was friendly and they had lots of little containers filled with qtips or tester lip brush things so I could try on the colors and pick out a couple I liked! HORRAY! I don't get makeup often, but I'll definitely come by once in a while to see if there's anything I want from here. :) read more

I love Ulta when I am looking for some professional nail polish and hair care etc., especially when I get to use their $5 off coupons that come in the mail monthly. However, I feel as though I can find some extra professional nail care products at Sally Beauty Supply, such as top coats, base coats, nail strengtheners, filers etc. So really I only go here for the nail colors, not the other jazz. In terms of the makeup, I do like that they have sections for both the cheaper cosmetics, and the higher quality cosmetics. However, I probably would go to Sephora if I didn't have the coupon, because they tend to have a larger variety. I do appreciate that Ulta is trying to expand their high quality cosmetics, and I hope they get some other brands in there soon. Oh ulta, you sucker me in each time! The salon, brow bar, drugstore + high end makeup/skincare/hair products...I could spend a lot of time & $ here! They carry many of the higher end products that sephora does (smash box, philosophy, tarte, stila...) but don't expect to find the likes of Nars or Kat Von d. If you love good deals on your everyday essentials, Ulta is the place for you. Unfortunately the closest one to me is still 11 miles away so I don't get to go a lot but make sure to stop when I do pass one. They always have good deals, and if you're a part of their Ulta Club you get even more deals that you just can't pass up. They do have a beauty salon there and every so often have events going on. I do like Ulta stores, and this is a decent location. Samples are usually not in the best condition, and items on the shelf are often quite disorganized, misplaced, out of stock, or (the worst) used or damaged. I have had a few experiences where I purchased something and either got home or in the car and realized it did not have a seal or that the product had clearly been used already. Fortunately, the return policy is great, so I've always been able to return or replace them, but it is a hassle. On the other hand, service has always been good here. I've always been able to find help if I needed, and they are friendly and efficient. Services at this location are terrible. Got gel nail service. They did a terrible job. They had FILTHY tools, cuticle clippings floating in the disinfectant solution. I asked her not to use metal tools on my nails, some sort of scraping device I've never seen in all my years of manicures (10+) and she demolished my nail bed with it. She really hurt me with it, then looked at me like I was a jerk and said, "it slipped". After the hour and a half service (?) I asked to speak with the salon manager. I showed her the nails, she said they looked great. I explained that they did not, that the polish should be evenly applied to the nail bed, not on my skin. It should also be on the edges of the nail. I showed her how a nail should be shaped evenly, not with some nails rounded and others squared. She also didn't trim any length, or ask me if length needed to be removed, just started filing away. After showing the manager what a gel service should look like, she very rudely told me to sit down so she could redo it. I told her I didn't want her to redo the service, since she thought the original job was great looking, and that I would like her to remove the gel so I could go to an actual salon (with professionals that know a bad gel when they see one!). She rolled her eyes and told me it would be five minutes and to just sit. I instead got my refund and left. Couldn't believe my life for a minute. read more

I had such a wonderful experience here. I had gone in to buy my usual face products (Mario Badescu), which I was content with. In the process I met Stephanie in the prestige products section. She was very knowledgable about face care (and has amazing skin by the way). She suggested that I start with a facial to get the ball rolling so to speak and make the switch to Dermalogica products. I'll admit I was reluctant, but she said she was 100% confident I would see an improvement in my skin. Now, anyone who knows me knows how cheap I am, but I admit that my skin still could use some improvement, I decided to give it a try. This was my first facial and it was great! She sent me home with some Dermalogica samples and a skin care regimen. Let me just tell you, my skin looked so awesome even the next day after my first use of the samples she gave me. My makeup went on so smooth and I couldn't believe what a difference it made! A few days later I had two different strangers tell me they thought I was younger than my age (they were health care workers, so they knew how old I really am). I've always battled difficult skin (flaky, oily, acne, red) and I saw improvement on all four accounts. I immediately got on the website to order full size products. These products are NOT cheap and it's not very easy to impress me, but I was impressed. Impressed enough to spend the extra money for skin care that works. Ebony is so talented! I have been all over St. Louis to find the talent Ebony has. No challenge is too great for this girl. I originally found her bc I had eyebrow extensions (NOT RECOMMENDED) put on from someone else that almost completely took off my eyebrows and I was desperate to find someone to help. Not only did she fix the disaster that was done, but made, shaped, and tinted my brows to perfection. Exactly what I had been looking for ALL over. I really am loving my brows after getting them done by Ebony at the Benefit Brow Bar! I like to get my brows in the "straight" shape, and she knew what I was talking about immediately. Got my brows done on a whim by Nori today and felt like one of those perfectly browed Instagram stars afterward . She mentioned that they were already pretty decently shaped, so she only had to clean up and trim. She used minimal wax and then filled them in with brow powder -to perfection . I was only upset that I went out in no makeup, sweaty and in gym clothes and wasn't cute enough to match my brows when I left! I normally go to the nail shop for the $10 wax but this to me was worth the extra money. She took plenty of time and didn't try to up sell me on anything . This isn't a bad review on the brow bar because I have yet to give it a try. Kinda scared to now. I am very much a cosmetic junkie. I frequent both Ulta and Sephora a few times a month. So I decided to give Ulta Salon a try. Worst mistake I have ever done. I went from shoulder length hair to a super short hairstyle. Showed the guy a pic of what I was looking for and it's like he didn't even care to pay attention to it. Before I could really say anything he had the Clippers out and literally cut my hair so short there was no saving it. I could put a side by side of the picture and what I received and it's not even close. Never been this dissatisfied in my life. And the clipper job he did is all choppy. The ladies get you in on time. I've gotten my brows waxed/tweezed multiple times. All in all, it's extremely overpriced- 25 dollars for brows that will just grow back in a few weeks. The girl who does the brows, Ebony, turned out good looking brows- but she was very very aggressive on the tweezing (my whole eye area was red afterwards, which doesn't happen when I tweeze at home), and my eye was scratched from something during the process. I think she pulled my skin too tight. If you have a lot of pocket money, then I guess you can go here, but it's not worth it. read more

Every time I go to Ulta I find exactly what I need and more. The staff are so helpful and friendly and really know their stuff. This review, however, is for Stephanie, the esthetician who performed my first facial ever. I walked in hating my skin. I recently had a bizarre breakout that was totally killing my self-esteem. Stephanie really took the time to get to know me and my skin and get to the bottom of my problem (likely a new makeup routine combined with being on my phone, stress of a new job and harsh skincare products that aren't for my skin type). Then she recommended a Medibac facial to deeply cleanse and reset my skin. Normally, they're $65, but Stephanie is a high-level esthetician so her work is a little more pricey. I was so desperate to help my skin I would have paid anything. The facial lasted about an hour, and she walked me through everything she did. I was totally relaxed! When it was over, my face was smooth and glowing. I saw an almost immediate change in my skin's texture and brightness. Obviously, every little pimple wasn't gone, that'll take some time, but Stephanie recommended a skin care routine and new makeup to put my skin on the mend and keep it that way. So totally impressed. Service is horrible. Multiple times I've been in the store and haven't been greeted once. I've worked in retail and this is a horrible representation of customer service. Either the employees are walking around aimlessly or talking or they just seem horribly understaffed. Was in there today to grab something and I had to wait 15 min sitting at the register before someone noticed me and then she couldn't even check me out and had to "search" for someone to ring me out. Not sure what is the deal at this store but it's horrible. If it wasn't rush hour I would have just went to west county. 15 min difference but you get treated 100% better. read more

Came here to get my nails done (OPI Gel manicure). Was pretty satisfied when I left and had a good experience with the nail tech. However, two of my nails peeled within two days. I was annoyed but they were nice on the phone and said I could come in and get those two fixed at no cost. When I went back, I had a bad experience with a different nail tech. She was rude - barely speaking to me and when she was done she just got up and left. I was sitting there with my hand in the lamp wondering when if we were done. Probably will not go back. read more

Sooooo I have left threading alone ever since experiencing a brow bar wax. I normally don't wax bc it really irritates my skin and it hurts. However my bestie advised me to go to Ebony at this brow bar since I wanted them shaped. Now I love threading...HOWEVER...I have yet to experience a consistent shape with threading as it depends on who is doing it. I don't have time to chase down a personal threader. So I visit Ebony and she uses a pencil to show what my brow shape is before doing anything. Loved it. She then waxes, DOES NOT HURT. IDK what it is but it goes quick enough for me not to cry. Finishes up strays with tweezers. Then she puts a light powder over the redness and fills in the brows. You leave there looking like a million bucks, not with the "pain is beauty" look on ur face. My eyebrows look awesome. Now bc its threading I notice I have to go back by 2 weeks. Threading lasted longer :(. NOW Ulta loses the star BC this service is $20 bucks. At any nail shop it will not be over 7 bucks and threading I have never seen more than 11 bucks in STL. So really aside from my own tip I give bc it really is an amazing job, its still waxing. Shame on you Ulta, hopefully you guys are taking that extra 5 thats being charged and giving it to Ebony. read more

As an avid Sephora fan, I was initially beyond ecstatic to discover Ulta. The promise of points to redeem for actual dollars off your purchase (as opposed to just building them for "deluxe samples" like Sephora) seemed too good to be true. Plus they send out coupons for $3.50 - $5.00 off your purchase...great, right?? Yeah. I quickly discovered these coupons/offers do not work on MANY (most?) of their brands/products. Their excluded-from-coupons list is HUGE. The upside: I do enjoy the option of having the "drugstore" level cosmetics in addition to the higher end lines. Plan on using your coupons exclusively in the drugstore sections, however. At the end of the day, I'll stick with Sephora for most of my make up needs. Ulta seems to get products a bit later than Sephora does, so I've found many items on sale at Sephora that were still relatively new/at full price at Ulta (and you can't use your coupon, remember!). Plus, parking at the Promenade is TERRIBLE, so just mentally prepare yourself for that experience. read more
