It used to be if you received a gift for Christmas you could do an even exchange without a receipt, it seems that's not the case anymore. I received a gift of perfume from my young teen daughter. She purchased the perfume at this store, and even received a little makeup bag as a free gift with her purchase. Unfortunately, my daughter purchased the wrong version of the perfume that I wear so I was looking to do a simple exchange for the same exact perfume and price just a different version of the perfume. They would not do an exchange without the account that it was purchased from. Being a young teen, my daughter does not have an account here and unknowingly threw the receipt away. When they went to look up my phone number or her number, unsurprisingly nothing came up. A manager took a look, also told me that they can't do an exchange, then spoke to another manager, who then graciously offered to give me the $50 item with a value of $30 where I would have to pay a $20 difference. Excuse me? I even brought them free the little gift bag that they were giving away with purchases before Christmas. I could've shared the location of my daughter when she purchased it, but they would only accept a receipt or an account from a young teenager. Mind you this isn't even exchange, it's not anything complicated. Thank you Ulta for encouraging me to shop somewhere else! read more

Checked to see if I could get my hair done between the wedding and reception, since I ran out of time for a flat iron. They were booked the rest of today. They have a good assortment of Clinique and Mac. I still use the Clinique lotion, it's a classic cream. Reminds me of my grandmother when I use it too. It's that time...my hair is starting to show gray, and I am not really fond of the aging hair process (yet). Brooklynn was wonderful and listened to my thoughts and anxiety. She gave me enough color to hide some gray and yet keep true to my original color. What a fantastic experience with a wonderfully knowledgeable and kind stylist. I am an Ulta employee in Midland, and I was traveling through the town of Brighton. It was a great trip with helpful employees until I went to check out. At check out I assumed my employee discount would be honored with the beauty event deals because I presumed my employee discount would be honored as it had been on my 3 previous trips to as many locations during the March sales. General manager on duty this Sunday was called to front to assist when I questioned that my discount was not honored. Instead of explaining the store policy to me, she raised her voice and walked away. I was a customer in this store, and was treated poorly by management. I went into the salon and saw Natalie W. for color correction of an at home purple dye job. Natalie not only took my mess of an at home makeover and made it look runway ready but she also informed me on how to keep my hair looking fresh in between appointments. she even walked me around the store showing me products I asked her about during my appointment. Zero stars is what Ulta in Brighton deserves. Absolutely rude! My daughters boyfriend and his friend went there after a long day of working in work clothes to do some Christmas shopping. When has Ulta become Boujee?! an employee walks over grabs the perfume out of there hands and walks away! Really?! Christmas time men shopping for their loved ones isn't unusual?! Shame on you Ulta thinking two good hard working men are going to steal! they should of walked out and not shopped there for being insulted! We booked an appointment for a haircut online. We arrived 15 minutes before our appointment and went to check in. The employee that treated us was bewildered that we had an appointment. Somehow the system allows us to book even though they were busy. This was obviously a glitch in the system, however, the employee was really rude to us and made it seem that it was our fault. She was incredibly unhelpful and didn't offer any solution for us. read more

Went in for a pretty hefty purchase of around 200 to renew a lot of my gfs bathroom products. When she got to the counter to pay with some visa giftcards they said they could only swipe two at a time for a purchase, makes sense that's nothing unusual. However, when she tried to pay with all the visa gift cards for the order the cashier with pink highlights in her hair, dark winged eyeliner and a ghost tattoo on her left forearm said that she was only gonna do one order and was too lazy to break the purchase up to accomodate paying with the gift cards, and ended up forcing my gf to pay $125 out of pocket that she was not planning on paying, and for a college student this is a large chunck of change to just give up unexpectedly. After getting back she told me what happened and we immediately drove back and were met by the same cashier. She immediately rolled her eyes and exhaled when we told her we wanted to refund the products and pay for everything using the visa gift cards. She also said "this is going to be a whole process" when the whole thing didnt take more than 10 minutes. Sounds like she just didnt want to do her job. Anyways, now that we were back she refunded the whole purchase to store credit before either of us could say somthing and then proceeded through the rest of the purchase. Overall my gf walked in with 250$ worth of gift cards and left with over 100$ in store credit and no gift cards because this imbecile of a cashier could not properly check her out. read more

I am not one to write reviews knowing it could be damaging to a business. I can get past a bad product or an attitude... But... This is my freaking hair. I had a super nice young girl that I will not name. I felt uncomfortable going into it... She definitely cut off more than I wanted. And when she asked me how everything looked I pointed out how uneven my hair was... She called another lady over to come give her opinion on what she should do. And when she start cutting more I told her I would just rather her stop because I didn't want to lose any more of my hair. She told me we should just probably not cut anymore, I agreed. Fought back tears. I was hoping it wouldn't be as bad when I got home. It's totally butchered. I have a mega long piece that was never cut in the back. I called back and they told me that they would have the salon manager fix it. But I honestly don't think I will go back after this. Extremely nice people... Go to the salon here if you want to do anything for your hair and ask for Megan. She colored my roots, trimmed, and blow dried my hair and the results were AMAZING. i have curly/frizzy hair and not even high end salons have been able to do such a smooth, perfect blowout. It literally looked like she had straightened and curled my ends with heat by just blow drying! The store was closing and she still took her time and didn't rush me out. I've been having Jenna J do my hair for multiple years now. I follow her where ever she goes. I was very happy with the Ulta Salon. It was clean and quiet vs some of her previous salons. Stopped by this store today. On the way in, an employee asked if I wanted to try some Clinique cream. I politely declined, then went to the high end area to look for products. I wandered the aisles trying to find a replacement for a product that had been discontinued. She saw me wandering yet refused to acknowledge I was still shopping. So I proceeded to the checkout. I asked the woman there for help. She acted as if it was an imposition. She walked me back to the high end area and pointed out a few brands but couldn't bear to help me test it on my skin or anything. "There's cotton balls on the end of each aisle." Each experience I have had at this store is the same- the sales women are snobby and can't bear to stop and help you. The customer service at this store needs an upgrade! read more

I always had great haircuts from here and probably went there for about two years. The problem I had that made me stop going there is that the girl who cut my hair always had to bring up her political and religious and abortion views (as if I cared). Once the election came close, it got super ridiculous...it was out of control and I'm not sure why she assumed I wanted to hear what her opinions were or why she thought she could sell me. I really just wanted a haircut. I'm sure at this point I said something to make her understand my feelings weren't her feelings. I have been investing in the best beauty care products offered at Ulta for myself and my daughter at the Brighton location for ten yrs. I recently had the pleasure of meeting the new General Manager Gena yesterday after experiencing a very difficult afternoon with her staff the day before. Gena was sincerely perceptive to the fact that the floor manager and hair dresser on duty were without common sense and lacking fundamental consideration of customer service technique after I explained what took place while I was with my daughter buying her a complete set of new make up for a birthday present. Gena spoke of her retraining plan in hopes of keeping only the best team in place to achieve higher standards towards guests. I was assured by this outgoing,nonsense veteran manager that the two employees unacceptable actions would be addressed as it should be since it's very uncommon to receive this type of behavior from a staff member at Ulta. My encounters throughout the years with Ulta staff has turned into friendships due to their knowledgable, polished professionalism as they go out of their way to find what works best for my look. Truly if an Ulta representative doesn't have adept information about a product line that I have questions about they find another staff member who does so I feel confident in my selection. I would like to thank Kristin and Nicole for genuinely accommodating me every time I walk in and for being accomplished leaders in guest relations that others can aspire to. I walked up to the door and the woman at the counter rudely pointed at a sign, NOT located near the door that said Labor Day hours opening at 11. I went in the store hoping to find a new foundation. I asked one of the sales associates for help. She suggested a foundation for me and even put it on my face to make sure it matched. She went back to the display and grabbed an unopened bottle stating it was their lightest shade. Okay, thank you. I went around the store looking at the higher end make up for a setting spray. The same associate followed me around. She kept her eye on me to make sure I wasn't stealing. It made me very uncomfortable and not welcomed so I grabbed what I needed and checked out. The women at the counter was very nice and welcoming. I wish she was the one who had helped me. I then get into the car and put the 'lightest' foundation on my skin only to realize she gave me one of the darkest shades in the makeup line. I was not going to drive home just to return it so my mom went back into get another shade. The women then gives her the 'correct' shade and then we leave. I get home to realize she STILL hasn't given me the correct shade. I now have to make a 30 minute drive to return the item. I will not be returning to this store and will take a longer drive to Okemos to return. The women are much more helpful and welcoming there. read more

Came in for a layered cut. I already have thin hair, I didn't want much off and I wasn't asking for a dramatic cut. Lady about burned my head with the dryer, and cut more then I asked for. Some parts of my hair are longer than others (mind you I know what a layered cut is, and have had it done for quite some time. But bits of my hair were longer in areas that were shorter...) it's a very lopsided cut. She took a lot from the crown of my head. It didn't take her long to do, in fact it was so fast you could see it in her work. She was clumsy and dropped her equipment a few times. Now I watched how the other hair dressers were cutting their clients hair, and how they had them facing the mirrors to see what was happening. I was facing away the entire time. Which had me concerned. Yeah it looks all fine when you first see it for the first few second before they take away the hand mirror and then you pay, but when I got home before work, With no time to get it fixed, I was stuck with little tresses that I call hair. I'm throughly pissed and embarrassed with how it looks. I won't be coming back. My hair was also taken care of by the manager, Meghan. I'm not impressed, and won't be having my hair down for quite some time. read more

l was in Ulta with my sister who was looking to buy an urban decay red lipstick. she was trying on different shades when an associate came up to us and asked her if she knew how to sanitize. my sister replied that she didn't. the associate then said "I'm just letting you know because I have I to sanitize everything you use" in a rude tone. it made us uncomfortable enough to that we left the store. my sister had every intention of buying a lipstick. we will be taking our business back to Sephora. I don't care if that employee had to "sanitize" 100 different products that is apart of her job. if you don't want customers testing products then don't put testers out. read more

I used to be a sephora only shopper. But as soon as ulta came around, I switched more and more of my beauty products to ones carried at ulta. Mostly because the of the lack of uninformed staff and just the overall mess you usually find a sephora store in. Then I started having trouble with sephoras rewards program depsite numerous years trying to straighten the issue out. And ulta has a much better rewards program. Also over the years ulta now carries almost everything I use, which is nice. The closest ulta to me is the green oak ulta and I've never had an issue there until recently. I went in looking for a specific kind of eyeliner. Normally I know exactly what I need or am looking for, so I never need the help from anyone. But because the company I had been using a specific kind of liner from quit making it, I thought I would just ask what other brands carried something similar. First of all the woman that helped me was not very friendly, and she asked me if I wanted expensive or cheap. I'm not opposed to cheap makeup i just can't use it really because of sensitivity issues, and I was in the "prestige brands" with a pretty full bag. Second of all she only showed me one brand and clearly it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. Instead of helping me more, she went and stood by the other woman that was giving a makeover, and started talking to her about how good a job she was doing. I even heard the woman say doesn't so and so make a similar product, to what I was looking for and the woman helping me just shrugged it off and ignored me. Then during checkout, I was asking about a product I was hoping they carried so I wouldn't have to get it from sephora, and turns out they don't have it, which is definitely ok. What upset me about the checkout, was I commented about how it was too bad, because I don't like shopping at sephora if I don't have to, and she winked at me and said "I know why you don't like shopping there." What is that supposed to mean? The way she said it I felt like she was putting me down in some way. So definitely not asking for help there again and am seriously considering moving all my beauty needs to nordstrom. Which is more inconvenient for me, but they have amazing customer service. read more
