Having an Ulta is super helpful in this town. However, I'm still a huge supporter & shopper of Powder Room! But when I need something that they don't carry, this is my go-to spot in town. It's new, so it has that shiny, new appeal to it. It's probably the cleanest and most organized Ulta I've been in. I don't need their employees to acknowledge me unless I have a question. In fact, I've had the opposite experience that another Yelper had: they wouldn't stop asking me if I needed help. I see myself as a capable person, so I tend to always decline, but some people may like that attentiveness. One time I was looking for a certain eyeliner and the girl I asked for help was extremely helpful and went out of her way to help me try to find an alternative because they were out of the eyeliner I use. Which I've found to be common -- every time I go there they're out of if not one, but all the products I came to purchase. Regardless, they seem super helpful and the stores clean. Not a fan of signing up for store loyalty cards without feeling like I made the decision. TERRIBLE customer service!!! I shop here frequently and every employee is always so judgmental and do not care to help me unless I come in with a full glam face. Last night, a smaller girl with short blonde hair was extremely rude. I asked for help and she made me feel extremely uncomfortable. At checkout, she asked why I didn't get the foundation I was carrying earlier, I explained that I'm in between shades now that I have a tan and instead of offering to help find the right shade or show me a different foundation, she scoffs and says "hmmm, okay" as if I was lying or stole the item. I ONLY ever go there for Mario Badescu setting spray and Tarte concealer which they don't have at Sephora. Two women blocked the entire line while having a conversation and had nothing to purchase so I politely said "excuse me sorry" and they just glared at me and continued their conversation so I had to squeeze by which was really awkward... On my way out I overheard two employees who were walking in say "I'm just going to keep my head down." CLEARLY management needs some discipline if they are making their employees feel this inferior?? I work next to Ulta and have gone here twice in my lunch. We have been waiting for you to come to Chico for soooo long and I will say while it's a beautiful store and great product, I am unfortunately bummed because of my experiences. As a person in customer service I understand what it takes to be of service to a customer. I have really been looking forward to coming here for months and as of now my thoughts are the following: The customer service isn't great. It's a beauty store! It's supposed to be fun, upbeat and inviting. It would be nice to have slightly more interaction with someone beings that it's a new store. No one has offered to guide where things are located, no is walking around to ask if help is needed, no one is smiling. I like having my space when I shop but there has never been anyone on the floor to help or assist when needed. My biggest annoyance in any store is waiting in line for unnecessary reasons. I spent 7 minutes in line while 3 girls attempted a return. This should have been something you trained on during orientation or during another time other than when you have people waiting in line. OPEN ANOTHER REGISTER.... the girl who seemed to be a supervisor needed to be more aware of other customers waiting and sent one of the girls to start helping customers. Bottom line: I know it's a new store but there needs to be a better focus on customer relations and training for efficiency in getting the customer rung up and out the door happy. Also, I see people in there stocking or resetting at 6am but lipsticks have been mixed around for over a week making me have to search for the colors that I like and the girls have been doing sign changes during business hours. Would it not make sense to have this taken care of so your store is "showtime ready" for when you open so you can focus on assisting customers??? Just a thought read more

I received a gift card for Ulta and was excited about going there. I'm not the greatest at doing my makeup and could use some help. I spent more than a hour in this store and not 1 time did anyone ask if I needed help, all the while all the young petite girls were offered help right away. Then went to check out and didn't want to give my phone number because I'm already upset with the service and the girl got an additude about it. Worst service I've ever experienced. The employees totally ignore you. The employees kept walking away when we went to ask them questions, so I went up to the counter to ask a question and she rolled her eyes. Couldn't answer my question. (Do you not carry this product anymore?) Walked away. Finally we gave up and went to leave. All the employees were standing at the counter goofing off. So frustrating. Similar experience all three times I've come here. Only came back because the Tarte foundation I like is an Ulta exclusive product and the shipping time from the Tarte website is 2 weeks. Super disappointed about my first visit to the new Ulta. The greeter was daydreaming and another girl on the floor ignored me while stocking a shelf. I have been in customer service for 30 years and I can honestly say that my experience was embarrassing. The girl that rang me up was nice and another girl on the floor asked me if I was doing ok, but the first two I encountered almost made me leave. You shouldn't have to dig for a sincere greeting. They have a great selection of beauty items and cosmetics, however if you need help, and you are over forty their staff won't give you much help and if they do it's will be like a painful experience for them. I came in for a balayage, a bit of lighter color added to the bottom of my naturally brown, shoulder length hair. The hairdresser (I think her name was Maria?) that did it for me knew it came out wrong right away. The dyed hair, which was basically the whole bottom two thirds without any natural streaks as balayage is commonly done, was orange- a horrible brassy orange. In an attempt to correct it, she put a toner on it, which turned it all orangy reddish brown with no visible highlights/balayage. Obviously I was disappointed, but still paid the $150 plus a tip. I came back within a day or two to fix it and her and another stylist attempted to lift the brown out with some kind of a bleach wash, which essentially destroyed my hair. It was bad enough damage that my hair was dry, frizzy, and chunks of hair literally broke off within days. The color was still orange. I ended up finding a great hair salon in town to try to correct the brass color. Unfortunately, there was only so much that could be done as it was badly damaged. The whole ordeal became rather expensive and made me wish I never went in the first place. I cut it shorter since then and have been cutting off the damage as fast as it grows out, and months later I still have severely damaged hair. I know color is tricky and this is the first bad review I've written. I'd say cuts at Ulta are okay, but for color I'd look elsewhere. Easily, by a long shot, the only hair horror story I've ever had. Expensive and a real bummer. read more

In the last few years I have purchased many of my usual beauty items on-line. We just didn't have a convenient store with a large inventory that was easy to access locally. I was not very familiar with Ulta but I'm pleasantly surprised at the large inventory and the beautiful building with uncluttered aisles. It's a very comfortable place to shop. I was offered color matching for a foundation when I walked in. I deferred until I walked around some. When I went back up 10 minutes later after narrowing down the brands it did take 20 minutes for a person to be available. I'm not taking a star off because the sales people seemed aware and repeatedly apologetic. I used that time to wander the aisles. The sales people were friendly. read more

A customer "service" rep with a name that started with a V was not a friendly cashier. She was short in her tone, did not make eye contact, did not smile once, and when I asked if there were any in store coupons, she replied with "Well, you can check retail me not." Okay...soooo, "yes" then? It was not a pleasant experience for me or my daughters. I was surprised that Ulta beauty does not train or hold their employees to a higher standard of service. I am new to Ulta and assumed the employees make non-biased recommendations when I asked them about foundation and lipstick recommendations. They kept pushing Clinique Clinique Clinique and shot down other products i asked about (Tarte). I asked if they have get special incentives or bonuses for selling Clinique since they kept pushing that product. She quickly said no and changed the subject. Turns out they are Clinique representatives clothed as Ulta employees. I wouldnt care if the accurately and transparently represent themselves. I brought my daughter to Ulta in Chico, Ca for glamour hair and makeup for her prom. We arrived a little early and ended up waiting until 15 minutes after our appointment time before being called back to get started. It then took the guy that was doing her hair over 45 minutes just to decide what he was going to do with her hair. By this time the lady that was going to do her makeup needed to start so she started while he was still doing her hair. Bottom line...her hair ended up being a very simple half up/ half down do that was just curled with a curling iron and my daughter showed the makeup tech a picture of what she wanted her makeup to look like..silver/glittery eye makeup which ended up being blue and the tech didn't even bother putting primer on her face knowing that she was going to prom. Then we were charged $120 and then asked how much we wanted to tip them!! I would love to show you pictures of what she looked like after your make over vs. how she looked when she did her own makeup and I did her hair. read more

My girlfriend got her makeup done from this Italian old lady, for her graduation and she did not know what she was doing. She put to much concealer and it made my girlfriend look orange and the Italian girl attempted to put eyeshadow on my girlfriend but she didn't do a very good job. I wouldn't recommend getting your makeup done by the Italian old lady because she doesn't know what she is doing. read more

Went for the second time today. Everyone was so extremely helpful! I am no beauty guru, I absolutely need help and that is exactly what I got. If you are asked do you need help? Say YES! We all do! From the generic beauty sponge and bronzer I got to the custom matched foundation and more this is a playground for beauty! Staff is amazingly helpful and sweet! Go in ask for help and be amazed! I have to say I was very impressed with Kimberly....The store was slammed with customers and she made me feel like I was the only customer. I have always had trouble with foundations due to scars and discoloration issues and she gave me her recommendations and had her staff do a color swatch on my face and I am 100000000 % satisfied! I went into ulta beauty in Chico today. I was wondering around not knowing where to begin when the nicest lady ever, Amy, came up and helped me. I wasn't expecting a full makeover, but she gave me one. Best makeover I've ever had. I bought everything she used, and I'm so happy with the products I got. Very reasonably priced too. I actually just left Ulta beauty now. The three workers that I talked to were strangely robotic and didn't really help me or engage in any conversation when I attempted. I asked one worker a specific question and she gave me a very generic answer and just kept walking. Not helpful at all. It was almost like because I was a mom with no make up and a baby on my hip I wasn't the right type of customer. I'm a huge beauty fan, absolutely love makeup, and I think I'm pretty good at it too. I was excited to find out Ulta was coming to Chico, so I wouldn't have to wait days for an online package to come in the mail. But every single time I've walked into Chico's Ulta, it has been nothing but bad experiences. They need to teach the girls about customer service!! I felt so discriminated against because of how I looked. I spent all day running errands so I wasn't exactly looking too cute but I went to buy a few products since I was already in the area. Walked in, the store had maybe three girls inside shopping and plenty of employees. No hello, no welcome. As I was shopping I accidentally dropped one of the products I was planning on purchasing. Two girls rushed over and just looked at me, rolled her eyes and said to the other girl "It's fine, she didn't break anything." I wanted to leave right then. But I didn't and continued to look at new products. Nobody asked if I needed help, no one even made eye contact with me besides the one time when I was shamed for dropping a product. Even the cashier was snotty with me. Most of the girls were talking amongst themselves talking about moisturizers. Hello??? There's customers in your store???Definitely never planning on coming back to this Ulta until they fix their issues with customer service. read more

This review is strictly on Jenny with Benefit. I went in yesterday for the first time hoping to get help with getting matched to a foundation. I asked Jenny even though she was busy stocking her area. She stopped and seemed so happy to help me. She tested out to foundations, showed me how to bronze my face, in what order to apply my makeup and how to cover my dark circles. She also helped my sister. She didn't push any products on us with was nice. She gave us her opinion on products she actually has used. She was really sweet and so helpful.
