I've been getting my brows done with Sarah at the benefit brow bar for years and she is incredible. I refuse to go anywhere else

I'm writing this review from my car that is currently parked in front of the store, that's how serious this is for me. I walked into the store today looking to purchase a few make-up staters for my partner. I walked expecting a greeting, didn't get one, strike 1. Strike 2 came when I made eye contact with an employee and she immediately looked away WITHOUT acknowledging me. The third and final strike came when I went to the makeup section looking around, and an employee walked near the section, but still didn't acknowledge or recognize my presence. A simple, "Hi, Did you need any help?" would suffice. Immediately afterwards, I left. It's very apparent that this location doesn't believe in customer service or basic human interaction for that matter. I'll steer clear and spend my money elsewhere. read more

Customer rep said she'd be over to help. Waited a long time. When she came closer we made eye contact and went a different direction. Waited 5 more minutes and left. I went to the Ulta in Fair Lakes yesterday and left completely disappointed. I had gone in looking for a cologne for my nephew's birthday, and it took forever to find someone who could assist. When I finally did, I was told the cologne would be waiting for me at the register. Copy that. On my way up, I noticed a Shark FlexStyle Hair Tool Kit marked down for $179 on one of the end caps. I've been waiting years to catch a good deal on this. It was the last one left on the shelf, so I figured--wow, how lucky for me. My mom (whose birthday is this week) has been eyeing it, so I was excited. This was about to be the perfect gift. When I got to the register, I asked the cashier if there were more in stock. She said, "Oh yeah, there's plenty." I mentioned the shelf was cleared, and I figured the sale must've wiped them out. That's when she said, "Oh, these aren't on sale." I let her know there was a sign on the display with a sale price, and brought her over to double-check--thinking maybe I misread it. But nope. There it was, bold and clear with the discounted price printed right on it. Before I could even explain, she cut me off and said, "Oh, this is old. It shouldn't be up." Then another employee appeared behind us and said, "I need to take that down. You see the date? It says 2/22/2025." Like that was supposed to explain everything. Let me be clear: that is not the customer's job to catch. That's an internal oversight. The expiration date was printed in font size 6 or smaller--basically invisible. And no, customers aren't stopping mid-shopping to dissect the fine print on your signage. We're scanning, moving, trusting what's being presented. Rather than acknowledge that mistake, they just removed the sign in front of me and carried on. Then the cashier said, "There should be another sale this Christmas." It's March ma'am. This isn't just bad communication--it's lazy, and it's dismissive. I know things fall through the cracks sometimes. But when that happens, you own it. You don't act like the customer is the one at fault. This entire interaction lacked accountability. What is Ulta's policy when signage is left up past expiration? Is the expectation that customers will catch your mistakes before your team does? That's not just confusing--it's unacceptable. I wasn't rude. I didn't make a scene. I was calm, respectful, and still--somehow--I left feeling like I had done something wrong for pointing out your team's error. I ended up saying I no longer wanted it at the $300 price and the cashier gladly took it off and put it back. I shop at Ulta often. I expect better. Mistakes happen, but how you handle them matters. And this? This was handled poorly. read more

I had texture/wave service at Fair Lakes Ulta yesterday. Trina was great but I was very unhappy to learn that hair cut is now a separate charge! No one does just perm; it almost always comes with some kind of hair cut. She told me hair cut used to be included in texture/wave service. When did it change? And why was it not indicated when we/customers set up an appointment online? And why was I not informed when I walked in? I paid the additional $47 for the hair cut as Trina apologetically called and told me that her supervisor asked her to collect from me but now I'm feeling it was very unfair and dece. Is this how Ulta salon treat customers? Can I get my money back for hair cut? I submitted FB through Ulta app and online, but so far, no one reached out to me about my experience. very disappointing. read more

Conditional recommendation, as service isn't what it used to be. Then again their major increase of prices on cologne is ridiculous. There's a Native American proverb, "some like to spend more for the same thing." Their prices on the Valentino Uomo and other lines, it would be more prudent to purchase online or from say Macy's. They also have better customer service there. On a plus note this store is very organized and clean. As a man I'm not where the money is. Or am I? Considering I have a variety of both designer and niche brands at the house, it's interesting but every time I'm in here not one greeting. Not one "can I help you find something?" Companies with the right amount of employees whom are passionate, do far better, and with the high prices they should be doing even more so. I will commend them for coffee beans, next to the colognes, so you can clear your nose out for another whiff of one. I wish my visit here was better than the one I had. I came here in search of a specific item that was fully stocked on the shelf upon my arrival. I was surprised because this eyebrow pencil is a hard one to find because of the popularity of the color. Anywho, I grabbed it made my way thru the maze to the register and went on my way. It wasn't until I arrived home that I learned that the fully stocked item was in fact the right color but the wrong pencil. I made my way back to the store the next day and to retrieve the right pencil. After looking on the shelf myself and seeing it was the same as the day before, still fully stocked with the wrong pencil. I asked the young lady if they had anymore of the one that I was looking for. She walks over to the same place I just left, points to the row on the shelf and says yes, its right there which sounded like, look dummy. I advised her that it was in fact not the right pencil and maybe she needed to take a second look. She looks and says on a customer must have done that, leaves it as is and tells me I can look in the drawer underneath..ma'am excuse me? To humor her and myself I pulled on the drawer which was in fact locked. Looked at her and said its locked. She responds with a name of who has the key. Oh okay well can you go get the key and unlock it or ask them to come and do so? Beyond irritated at this point, I waited a good five minutes for her to come back with the key to dig thru the drawer only to find out they did not have it at all. She advised I could order it online and have it shipped to my home and it would arrive in 3 to 5 business days. At this point I made my way to the register to return the one I had bought the day before. The young lady who processed my return was the complete opposite of the associate on the floor. She was very helpful and processed my return with a smile. Overall, the customer service here from the staff on the floor is enough to make you go elsewhere. read more

COVID REVIEW: Ulta Beauty is exercising plenty of precautions for COVID. Sone of these include employees wear masks, baskets are used instead of the usual bags when shopping, social distancing signs throughout the store floor, and display only testers. There are some select items out of stock, but overall the store is well stocked. There are also a lot of clearance and sale items spread throughout the store. All of the employees were courteous and they seemed to be well staffed if you have any questions or are ready to check out. Ulta Beauty is still a good place to for your beauty and hygiene needs. My stylist was CiCi who talk a good game about having so many years of hair experience, but results will show you she has no clue! I simply asked for a defined wash and go. I have regularly had my hair done at Ulta salons for about 9 years. We move frequently for work so Ulta gives me consistency in products and service. The salon keeps track of colors and products used so they are available when we move again. I've been going to the Fair Lakes Ulta every 6-7 weeks for just over a year. The store is always clean and I am welcomed upon arrival. Ashley, my hair stylist is friendly, professional, and skilled. She always asks questions and makes recommendations before starting. Personally, She always thanks me, is gracious and kind. She is in her early 20s and frequently talks about her family in a positive way. She lives within a few miles of her family and is always happy to talk about spending time with her younger siblings and traveling with them. She is smart, kind, and truly seems to leave positivity with everyone she comes across. She has such good energy. I leave my appointments feeling beautiful and relaxed. Less than stellar customer service. I made an appointment for eyebrow wax and tint. I will start off with what I did appreciate which is not a lot and move to what I did not like. Pros: I appreciate that the stylist was honest and made sure that I knew the difference between an eyebrow tint and henna. Cons: 1. I DID NOT like the condescending tone that was used when speaking to me 2. The stylists demeanor was not a very nice, warm, or welcoming 3. Customer service was very lacking, I did not feel like a valued customer 4. I felt rushed as if I was a nuisance, I felt as if the stylist wanted to hurry me out of the chair so she can go back to doing nothing. The store was not busy. The stylist was dropping things left and right. My experience here did not make me want to spend a lot of money. I only spent about $80 and not more because I needed some products anyway and I was already there. When the (nice) cashier, Kohal (I think was her name), asked me if I wanted to tip the eyebrow lady I looked her in the eye and said no. I believe in tipping people as I am not a rude person, but I did not want to reward a person for being rude to me. I will not come back here and rather go to Sephora even though it is not as convenient for me to do so. If I'm going to spend hundreds of dollars on beauty products I might as well go to a place where I'll be treated much better. I came here without makeup and very normal plain clothes, just because I was not dressed to the nines with a full face of makeup does not mean I deserve to be treated as less than. read more

My sister just left from getting her hair done and she hates it. She came to my job crying because of how her hair turned out. It's super orange. The lady told her she needs to use purple shampoo... she should've left happy with the color. Not told she needs to make it better at home. The bottom section on her head was not blended high up like my sister asked. I feel like the color is uneven all over, it doesn't look like a pretty balayage at all. She messed up the front with a glob of bleach and was going to "fix it" by cutting out the hair. Even her attempt to fix it with more bleach made it look like an uneven skunk streak. My sister no longer trusted her at this point, told her to leave it alone, paid and left. We went to our usual salon and was given a $400 price tag to "fix it" but even then her hair won't be the same because of all the damage. I will be contacting Ulta because I will be getting a refund and having them pay to get this mess, they caused, fixed. No one should leave a salon with their self esteem through the floor read more

This store has the worst customer service ever! No one comes over to ask if they can help you find anything and if you need help finding a match for makeup you can forget it. Today was my try third and last try. Plus the way they redesigned the store is the worst. The original layout was perfect and everything was grouped so you could find items. I recently visited for make application services. The applied lip color was too dark for my complexion. The Make-up Artist walked me around instructed me to find a lip color of my preference. The next thing I know an extremely tall light skinned African American female manager named Alexis verbally harassed me. She did not give a chance to answer her questions. She came at me three times. I had to walk away from her. I was wearing the store's make up smock. I returned to the chair for my make up completion. A different artist finished me. No one said thank you for coming. I expressed my concern to corporate no resolution about the horrible service treatment. I had to go to a competitor to have my make up redone. Don't go there. #Ultahorrible read more

I've been to Ulta Fair Lakes a couple of times to get a silk press, I can't recommend enough to get this service done by Lillie (the only African American stylist working at Ulta in this area). She's a seasoned hair stylist that specializes in Natural hair, relaxed hair, and color. Her scalp massages are absolutely amazing. Lillie is the ONLY hair stylist at this Ulta location that specializes in African American hair. read more

Store reset/remodel to make it look just like a Sephora is a disaster. Store is crowded and aisles area on their diagonal. No trash cans. Also, the median emotional age of the store associates here is about 11 years old. One of the few stores to carry Chanel (they did before the remodel) and the counter is now always filthy and there are many items out of stock. Used to be my regular store. Now I avoid it and get Chanel at the Macys down the street and shop only Ulta online or at their Fair City store for other brands. read more

The only reason I am giving Ulta beauty a 2 star is because of their collection and merchandises they carry. I buy a lot of make-up and this store is 5 minutes from my house. Very convenient for me. The negative 3 stars is because of their customer service, and reading the rest of the reviews on here, looks like the management doesn't care much. Every time I go to this store, I come across a rude associate. One time I asked for a product that I could not find and the associate said "oh we don't have that anymore" without checking. It was something that they just started carrying, so it was a bit shocking to me. I then went on my own to search again and I found a whole section with over 100 items of the product I was looking for. When I was walking to the register, I saw her and said, just so you know they are on the back wall, she said: "so you CAN find it on your own!" I have been going to Ulta at Fairlakes with my daughter for years. The associates there are always friendly but most people (not just Ulta), don't actively go out to help their younger clients. This one woman, Susan, went over and helped my daughter pick out products that were perfect. She didn't try to push for a sale, just provide excellent customer service and help out a young teen find the right items. Whenever we go back, Susan is so kind, pleasant and patient. There are Ultas closer to where I live, but I travel a little farther just to make sure we go to this one to see her! read more

If you're unsure of what shade you are - LOOK FOR SUSAN. SHE IS THE COLOR MATCHING QUEEN! She is the only woman who came up to me and my sister who were obviously struggling to find our shade. She is patient and on point. She made me feel beautiful I am so glad that I found an Ulta where I feel safe to ask questions and not feel criticized for the way I look. 5 stars for Erin in the Beauty Salon. She recently cut my hair and I was so impressed that I decided to go back and try a brand new color with her, rose gold! She did a fabulous job and I received endless compliments on my color. Erin is friendly, personable, she has impeccable attention to detail, and will never rush you out of the chair until your cut, color, or style is perfection. Erin has an extensive knowledge of not just hair products but ALL beauty products. You can tell when you speak to Erin that she takes a lot of time to research products to be an even better stylist and truly help clients. Every single product recommendation she has made to me is perfection, and she is more than happy to take the time to show you where the products are and explain how to use them correctly. I will keep coming back to this store because of Erin. My only side note to this review would be to SMILE ladies of the store, it goes a long way with people. Ive worked in customer service for a long time, you get paid to make people feel welcome! If you're having a bad day, just fake it til you make it. I mean Ulta is Ulta. They're great for makeup and I like the mix of drugstore and high-end products you can find there. The stores are usually always a bit messy (not just at this store, but at most locations), but throw in a few coupons here and there and it's usually a decent shopping experience. This review is really for the customer service that was just bad here and really reminded me why I truly prefer going to their competitor. Not even a smile from the girl at the register checking us out. Pretty sure there wasn't even any eye contact. Maybe she was having a bad day? Maybe she hates her job? I don't shop at ulta so I am not familiar with their merchandise and flow of shopping. There were several associates available. First one-I asked where the particular merchandise was and she just said "back along the wall..." okay I tried looking for it and still didn't find it. She ignored me and continued to put lotion on her hand and talked to the lady that was doing a makeup for a different customer. Second one- she continued to ignore me and talked to a different associate that was doing different customers make up. She avoided my presence and eye contact. I said "excuse me" twice and she finally looked at me but with so much annoyance in her look. I was disturbing her day and great conversation with her colleague. I finally found the thing I was looking for and asked the second associate for instruction on how to use it. She said "why don't you go on the website and read about it" okay... maybe my business isn't important for them, but making me feel less of a human shopping here is the exact reason why I don't like to come to ulta. They make me feel like I have to be an expert in what I'm looking for in order to shop here and I don't get littlest support/assistance from the associates. Cashier was trying to open a credit card and knowing that it will take long time-she didn't call for a backup or knowledge me there. But she could see I was getting frustrated that I only had one item and needing to go. She took me on the other register but she didn't say much. Did the bare minimum to get me out of the store. Sigh... I love the selection in Ulta but I am fed up with the service. I went back to fair lakes Ulta in Virginia today and I regret my choice. As I am walking up I see signs for norvina by ABH... I think well I'll be getting that. I walk in and the two girls on the floor don't acknowledge me but continue their conversation. I don't care, it's Ulta and I am use to being ignored. I go over to the ABH norvina display and start swatching. Gorgeous. I think about grabbing it when someone else comes in, the girls (standing 5 ft from me and ignoring me) say "welcome to Ulta" and are more than happy to help the next woman who came in. She doesn't need help but I make eye contact, they look away and resume conversation. Okay... I'll be getting the ABH elsewhere I guess. There was also a beautiful display for this shade inclusive concealer there but the awkward side step of me for another client made me feel embarrassed so I just walked away from the employees actively working to ignore me. Same thing happened to me in skin, an associate ignored me. I was interested in buying things but I decided you know what I'm not buying anything here unless I need it. I was tempted to buy my second backup of the new dose of color palette but nope. The dose of color highlight, nope. Nars creamy radiant, nope. I ordered dose of color online and went to the nearby Blue Mercury for Nars. I get the only thing I needed immediately, makeup wipes and a morphe brush. If it wasn't for the morphe selection at this store... The only reason I keep coming to this store after multiple times of horrible service is morphe I go check out. The woman who checked me out spent no more than 2 minutes trying to convince the girls in front of me to return for the Nars event next week, in fact all the cashiers were pushing that. I love Nars. So I was willing to consider returning to this store for a Nars consult despite feeling deliberately ignored. I thought, I don't like how they treat me but can I really pass up a Nars consult? Luckily, I did not have to make a decision on this as it was made for me by the cashier. She didn't even bother to mention it. All the other cashiers were pushing it, she had just pushed it moments earlier. I guess I wasn't worthy... Awkward, since she was asked to pass the clipboard for a booking for the event by another associate So if you decide to go to this store make sure you have low expectations. The store is very clean, the employees are very nice and helpful. I've been bored with my face for a while and decided I needed a haircut. Was a little apprehensive with the idea of cutting it at Ulta, simply because it wasn't a traditional salon - but boy, am I glad I decided to give it try! Called at 5:30 pm to see if they had anything for later that day, and they had something for 7. Went in there not really sure of what I exactly wanted, and Jillian was more than willing to listen to my ideas, and suggest some of hers too. In the end, we both decided on convex layers and long bangs for me. She is really chatty too and great to have a conversation with to help make the time go by faster. The price was amazing too: with the 20% off (since I was a new customer), the cut ended up being $32 - and that includes the shampoo, conditioner and blow out at the end. read more

Fairfax store is a waste of time. No one to help, employee standing behind the register was just standing, not offering to help customers. I finally found the items I was looking for, I even helped another customer decide what color foundation looked best on her. I went to check out and asked about one of the products I wanted that was damaged. The employee said she would check in the back to see if they had anymore. She returned from the back and approached a woman that had just walked into the store. She actually searched for her order and had a conversation about going to school with her before coming back to the register. The employee then returned and told me that this was the last one and they are sending it back to the company. She went to ring up my other items, I handed her the Ulta coupon and she said they were prestiege items and the coupon was not valid. I asked about the gift with purchase and she stated that was not available. I basically just wasted a half hour of my valuable time! read more

This is a review of the hair salon at Ulta, not the store itself. I absolutely loved the hair cut and color that I received from the stylist, Lanh. She was so friendly and really listened to me during the consultation. I spontaneously decided today to keep my hair short and to add some color. I walked in and described what I wanted, showed her some pictures, and she went above and beyond! The only drawbacks are on Ulta. The salon there just seems so clinical compared to other salons that I have been to. There's no effort made to make the salon area more of, well, a salon. Also, a dedicated hair washer and some more comfortable chairs would be great too! Overall, I got a great deal on an amazing hair cut!
