The manager monica is incredibly disrespectful. I had a simle miscommunication over pricing with a stylist and when monica came to "help" she was hostile and dismissive. I ended up having to call corporate to get the issue resolved. The other ulta employee were nice and tried to help but monica snapped at them and repremanded them infront of customers. I had Alloy as my hair stylist today and would not recommend. They did not greet me, ask how i was doing, or try to make me feel comfortable. Even a simple Hi or basic small talk would've made a complete difference. They said that the haircut i wanted was what i already had if i just styled it.... which i would disagree with because i do style my hair and it does not look like any of the pictures i had asked for. They did not talk to me the whole appointment, ask me any clarifying questions about my haircut, and made the slightest change to my hair and sent me on my way, with a haircut i did not ask for. if they did not know how to do the haircut i had wanted i would've preferred they had told me that so i could've went somewhere else and saved my time and money. this interaction was super unprofessional and made me very uncomfortable. the company offered me my money back for the haircut (but absolutely not for the $40 clarifying treatment... which i didnt request) I don't really care to get my money back I just hope the company can help address this issue and the stylist because i was treated with 0 respect, left crying and feeling bad about myself...... super disappointing experience read more

Where upon one one like myself finds the need for makeup, makeup remover and a glossy pink lip that slays all day, one should look no further. The store is organized well and staff are helpful with locating specific products. Significant selection and variety of brands. Checkout was swift and prices reasonable. My only concern was the sales floor inside was packed with such a plethora of displays and products that it is difficult to navigate for ADA accessibility. Amber helped me pick a foundation color which I was concerned that it might be a tad dark but she was right! Amber also picked out the perfect lipliner and lipstick. I am so happy with them. i got a haircut with Elisabeth and wow was it interesting. Dry cut, no hair brushing, spent 5 minutes acually cutting my hair, didn't offer to wash my hair until i asked, spent more time washing my face than my actual hair, was very rude and talked bad about other clients, insisted my hair was fine before but "sure, i'll do that i guess" and ended up leaving half way into blow drying my hair and told me we were done. no apologies, no reasoning, just "we need to cut short today, have a good one". ended up leaving with wet hair that was half styled. it was not my fav experience and getting it cut at another place tomorrow, wasted my money, time, and energy. read more

I'm not too upset about it because I know they're not known for their piercings and it was just a last-minute decision because I saw the piercing station, but it was the worst decision ever if you're going to get a piercing here and you see the gothic girl pull up. Recommend against getting salon services. I tried them out once a few years ago, and was moderately happy. I selected Felicia because she did a curly cut, but the result was very uneven and not enough of the dry hair was cut out. So I asked for it to be redone as a wet cut. She had no availability sooner than 20 days. She recommended against using thinning shears, and I had not been happy when a different salon used thinning shears, though I did ask her about whether or not that would be helpful for my hair if used properly. I agreed to let her cut my hair her way. There was a spot which was shorter on one side that the other, but I thought I would give her one last chance anyway. May 3rd time was the charm. Felicia instead wanted to argue with me about how I had insisted on her using thinning shears on my hair which is false. I complained about the thinning shears cut here on Yelp at Fantastic Sams in Santa Barbara when Norma insisted that I need the thinning shears and she cut my hair so short in one area that I couldn't pull it back into a pony. Gawd. But whatever. Felicia & the manager wanted to argue rather than turn me into a loyal customer. I guess this was her one last chance. And that's why I can't recommend it. Also, they really made me feel embarrassed. Here is a review I wrote last year. I don't know if she actually used thinning shears then, but it would have been back in August of 2023 and not March or April of this year when I tried the curly cut. LOVE THE PROXIMITY, PRICES... The store is well-stocked with BOTH high-end and over-the-counter beauty essentials. -That's the main thing that separates ULTA from Sephora, and it's such a nice thing for "folk" like myself who can't always afford an $80 product. I still feel special when I buy a lesser known brand, and the way they have it arranged is vey appealing to the eye. There is also an on-site hair salon and brow bar. The store is clean, diverse, and uncluttered. I have found a few wonderful associates who are kind and helpful, such as yesterday when I encountered a middle-aged, beautiful blond lady who made my daughter and I feel so special and provided us with great direction and recommendations. I'm so sorry I didn't get her name. However, I still think there is a lot of room for improvement in sending out roaming associates to help, since they are still rather spartan. -When you do find an associate, they are generally spot-on, so kudos! Parking is plentiful, as this store fronts right next to the Camino Realle Market place and you can grab a burger from fan favorite "Mesa Burger" right next door! Also, ULTA allows you to quickly accumulate points on purchases and (unlike Sephora where you get to redeem points for small samples), you can redeem your points on anything in the store! What a fun place to shop for all things fragrant and beautiful. I swear, my inner-drag queen comes out when I enter this store. And yet I stay grounded in my own male-ness and can thoroughly appreciate all that Ulta Beauty has to offer. And thank goodness for salespeople like Christina who are there to guide us all through the many bits of glamour. This store has absolutely everything for pretty much every part of your body. And from head to toe there is something for everyone. I actually went in with high hopes for finishing up my Christmas shopping, and got totally sidetracked with trying to find a signature scent for myself. Did I find one? No . . . but after pretty much spritzing every part of my body with several different manly sprays I think I may have it narrowed down to less than a dozen choices. I was able to pretty much wrap up the rest of my Christmas shopping right here, and Christina helped me keep focus as we looked at my list, checked it twice, and ended up finding way more that I had anticipated. Who knew that beauty products can be so much fun to learn about. Christina totally opened up my eyes and mind to specialty beauty products that I never knew existed. All I know is that I have never been so excited to have my family open the many gifts I purchased here. They too will also think that my inner-drag-queen had come out when selecting these items. Ulta is my go-to for beauty products! I love coming here due to the easy parking and large amount of products. The store is generally clean every time I visit. The customer service is hit or miss. Sometimes I'm greeted and asked if i need help, sometimes I am ignored until I check out. I got my hair done at their salon about two years ago and hated it. The staff wasn't friendly and was nicer to the other staff she socialized with. The MAC counter staff did my makeup previously and did a great job! I had surgery on my shoulder and cannot wash or dry my own hair for several months! So I went on a search for somewhere that I could have a wash and blow dry for a reasonable cost. All seemed good when I booked. But, and to me this is a big but, the stylist arrived 15 minutes late! I was her first appointment of the day, so she should have been on time. She didn't really ask about how I wanted my hair dried and styled, so I had to tell her. I specifically said I wanted it quite 'poofy' not really sleek, and also, not flipped up at the ends, but turned under. I guess she didn't understand, because I got flipped up and super sleek! I was hoping to get a week from this wash and blow-out, but I will have to get a friend to do it again in a couple of days, because this just isn't going to last and it isn't my style. Love love love their salon!!!! I went to get my hair cut/glossed and eyebrows done and from start to finish each time it was an easy experience and best haircut I've ever received! The prices are competitive to other salons in the area and I walked out after all 3 services spending what normally would have only gotten me a hair color. The quality outcome was far superior to any other salon. Emma does my eyebrows and while that service does line up with the prices of Santa Barbara competitors for the service, her results are just so much better than any place I've been to! Julissa did my makeup, I believe she was new and didn't know at all how to do makeup. She kept asking do you want this, do you like this, which product do you want me to use. Personally from experience, I have never gone to a makeup artist that needs to ask the client is this good or should I do it like this. My friends hate coming with me to make up stores, because they end up coming out with more stuff than they intended. Ulta is awesome in that it is located in a convenient location (there's also ample parking), is huuuuuge, and has lots of variety. I love that this store sells Pureology products- my absolute favorite hair product brand. I'll come here for my hair needs as well as the nail polish. The amount of nail polish that Ulta sells is amazing-from OPI to Essie, you will have be satisfied with the alllll the colors. The reason why I only added four stars to this review is because while there are so many things you can buy here, I don't ever know who to ask for help. It seems like the employees are pretty sparse every time I'm there. In addition, I can never find basic essentials here, such as cotton pads. Those should be restocked fairly often (I mean, with all the nail polish you sell, we need cotton pads to remove them off our fingers)! read more

Everyone, please do not get your ears pierced here. I cannot believe Ulta is offering this service, the stylist here doing it we're not trained to do so in cosmetology school. They are receiving training through Ulta and doing it with a gun, these are not professional piercers!!! Additional, I cannot find any info on if this is reusable gun or a disposable one. If it is a reusable gun with any plastic on it, it cannot be completely sanatized. If you look into any Ulta you'll know this is NOT a sanitary environment to do so. They will be administering a service that causes open wounds and bleeding in the same facility with testers. Please think about this, someone getting a piercing that's is bleeding and then they go use samples throughout the store ... THIS IS NOT SANITARY! read more

This Ulta is really really hard to love. Understaffed, randomly restocked, and not the greatest service. I recommend browsing online or another local provider for their offerings rather than stopping in unless you know which specific product you want here! The "cheaper" side of Ulta carries about 8-10 brands, but it's likely that a a fair number of those products are not well stocked. I tried to find a brow pencil in brown and wasn't tied to any brand, but it took looking through 5 separate brands to find a stocked selection. The same has happened for concealers, foundations, and lip colors -- you find the price point, style, and shade in a tester, then you realize the product you want isn't actually available to buy and take home. Some of my frustrations with this store are related to the brands, not Ulta's, setup but it goes hand-in-hand. For example, it's awesome to see a beautiful display of $10 lipsticks, but then it's likely that none of them are sealed and there are no designated test products to open and look at the colors. Most sections don't have a single "tester", meaning *any* of the unsealed products could have been swatched... and it's not fun thinking about buying a product someone else has already tested. When I'm at a beauty store like Ulta, I want to hear the wisdom of the make-up experts who work there and get their input. But at this location, I feel like you have to hunt them down and directly say "I would like to spend $x on Y. What should I get?" and the response and helpfulness has been widely varying, most often leaning toward seeming inconvenienced. This location always seems understaffed, weather you're looking for specific products or you're waiting in their longggg line to check out. I am sure I'll be back on occasion here and there, but I will likely make most of my makeup and beauty purchases elsewhere. read more

Long story short I went to get my eyebrows waxed here yesterday and they burned my skin pretty badly. I called today asking for a refund or just any help in general and the manager 1. pretty much blamed me for what happened and accused me of using products that could've caused sensitivity, 2. didn't apologize, and 3. wouldn't give me a refund but told me she would give me a product to help my skin heal. I went in today and the manager wasn't even there but the clerk gave me a used & almost empty bottle of aloe gel. She also didn't apologize or seem concerned at all. Thanks Ulta. UPDATE: A different manager called me a few days later and was very apologetic and embarrassed for what happened and how it was handled. Since my last review, this place has gotten even worse. I went in last week in order to get something very specific that I found on their website. It specifically said the item was in stock at the Goleta store so I took a chance. So, not only was the item NOT in stock, the person I talked to said that it wasn't something she'd seen in MONTHS. So, wasted trip. While I was there, I noticed there was an item that I usually use that had a great gift with purchase and it was worth it to me to get it. The date of the gift with purchase was that day through about a week. This is important because it was literally the first day of the gift and it was about 20 minutes after the store opened. When I got to the register, I had to ask for the gift (it didn't automatically come up) and I was told they didn't have it. I asked them if they had a substitute and two salespeople looked through their stock to see if they could give me anything that would be comparable. I got nothing and still bought the item because I was embarrassed to say I didn't want it without the gift. Despite the fact that the gift was why I had decided to get it that day. In addition to the Case of the Missing Gifts (this has happened every time I've tried to redeem a coupon or advertised gift at this particular location) they had super messy shelves and empty shelves all over the store. I'm not sure if they're closing soon or if they just can't be bothered to clean up or restock. If they aren't closing, what does it say that they look like they are? What a literal mess. For anyone who's still making an effort to avoid in store shopping, Ulta's curbside and in store pick up options are a godsend. Also, ordering through the app prevents impulse shoppers (like me) from mindlessly shoveling a ton of products I don't need into my basket! For online orders, you have the option to skip the line, as well. There's a little desk right by the front door that's labeled "Pick up." In total, it takes about 1-2 minutes to get everything! You just need to show the order number (found in the confirmation email) and a driver's license. This genius set up reduces time spent in the store, and makes the transaction significantly more efficient. As for the customer service, I have only ever had positive experiences here. I've lived in Goleta for over a decade, and have been coming to this store religiously since it first opened (not a fan of Sephora). The people who work there are helpful and welcoming, but not over-the-top-breathing-down-your-neck friendly (thank goodness). In my opinion, there's nothing worse than people hovering! However, they're always available when I have questions, so it's a perfect balance that creates a beautiful shopping experience. read more

I rarely give a negative review but this place has consistently been the most frustrating experience for me. I'm a goleta local so the Ulta in the marketplace was anticipated to be a great nearby beauty stop (Sephora is a bit of a trek downtown from ellwood). Every time I try to go to this location, I'm horrendously disappointed. The check out line can be 2 people or 15 people but it will take you 30 minutes to get out of the store from the moment you get in line. There are always 1-2 checkers no matter how long the line is and, shockingly, there are plenty of ulta employees standing around, stocking things, while customers wait and wait and wait. Sometimes they are just staring at you. It's horrible service. There have been a handful of times I have attempted to wait in line and given up. I've even searched the store for somewhere else to pay or someone to talk to, but to no avail. Inevitably, I exclusively rely on Sephora now or the Ulta up in SLO, because this store is inexcusable. Update: I just tried this place again and it took thirty minutes to get through a 6-7 person line. I don't understand why this hasn't been addressed. Maybe it's because all of the employees are spending their time on yelp declaring poor reviews "funny." Totally embarrassing customer service. read more

A former client at Santa Barbara's location, I was so happy to find another Brow Bar close by! It usually takes me several different estheticians to find "the one", but I got SUPER lucky this time around. Let me start by staying that Vanessa is THE brow goddess. I've been coming to her for about 6 months now and I am never going to anyone else. I came to her with a threading mess and within 3 appointments, my brows were back to what I thought was gone forever. I used to spend so long filling and defining my arches with different products (pencils, powders, gels, etc.) but now I can shave that 10 minutes out of my morning. They don't take any extra measures to have their customers walk out satisfied. On multiple occasions they have told me to call the customer service line because they don't want to handle it in store. One time I did call that line and they were so friendly and apologetic for the way the store acted that they emailed me a $10 gift card. Also, you should train your staff to not lecture your customers on how they should use their Ultamate rewards number every time. It's my choice to give my number out. The girl Ashley that rang me out lectured me for several minutes during checkout while I just stared at my phone trying to distract myself. She even said that returns "hurt" their store. I was so excited to have Ulta open up near my house so that I wouldn't have to trek downtown to Sephora or order things online anymore. But this place is ridiculous. I typically know exactly what I want, grab it, head to the registers, and then wait for at least 20 minutes in line, no matter what day/time it is. Even if there is a small line, somehow every transaction takes forever. SOMEONE HELP ME UNDERSTAND THIS. There have been a few times when I've literally stood in front of the product I wanted in the store and ordered it online right then (not from ulta) rather than wait in the line. I now only go there for cosmetics emergencies, and it gives me so much anxiety. I often have my small children with me, and standing in a line like that is a nightmare. This could be a great store - I do love the spaciousness as compared to sephora, and the fact that I can get some drugstore brands there in addition to the high-end brands. But I do not want to spend 20 minutes of my day reading the text on every bottle of poo-pourri on the impulse shelf. read more
