This Ulta needs a customer service makeover. Customers are constantly pestered if we need help. I had 4 people in 1 minute ask me if I needed help. That's extreme. Sometime people like to shop without being bothered. Yes I can find what I am looking for. However, on this visit, they were out of what I needed. When I did ask one salesperson for assistance, she didn't know what I was talking about. Here's a tip, if you want to help, be knowledgable. I never, ever post any sort of review what so ever, but I believe Erin deserves a solid shout out. I initally scheduled for a root touch up and cut. My hair was bay/ombre/whatever and about 10 different shades so I knew I needed some sort of help...but not to what degree. She sat me down and as she is looking at what she has to work with, she discovered a whole quadrant of my hair was untouched, and demarkation lines everywhere. (This wasn't 100% DIY work on my end either...beside some toner 3 weeks ago...and my roots before my last salon visit at another salon in March). She gave me what she thought would be the best plan of attack, I gave the okay and away she went. For my full highlight, Erin spent 2.5 hours meticulously weaving with the end of a fine tooth comb, making sure not to bleach the parts that were light blonde. Afterwards she placed a toner that blended beautifully. I was amazed at the end result! The other staff members were also blown away at the before and after. In fact, some were upset and recommended I get my money back from the previous salon because of what shape my hair looked like going in. I didn't think it was THAT bad...since I'm typically low maintence. When she took a pic and showed me blond roots, 4 inches of brown...and orange tips, on a quarter of my head, I know her, nor the other astonished staff members were trying to upsell services I didn't need. They were upset someone did this to me. Erin fixed me! I love my hair for the first time in a really long time. I can't thank her enough and definitely plan on referring others to her. read more

If I could give this ulta a negative score as to how likely I would recommend someone to shop there I would . I have never ever experienced customer service this bad in my life before I came to this store . I walked in and no one greeted me , as I was looking around for a specific product there was no associates to be seen they were all at the register huddled up gossiping ignoring customers . I saw an associate (Olivia) who was the only associate on the floor asking if customers needed help with anything . She was with a customer for about 3 minutes after I asked her if she could help me find a product and she didn't know exactly what I was looking for so she asked a associate who was walking to the back of the store and the associate was just rude . As I was going to check out there was no line but there was 3 girls one of them was (Tashala the other was Damara and there was another Caucasian lady with colored highlights in her dirty blonde hair wearing a gray dress ) . I thought the lady with colored highlights was a customer because she was shopping around and on her phone she also didn't have a name tag . As I'm waiting to be checked out neither of the ladies acknowledge me and I was right in from of them they all talked for about 3 minutes while I waited there . Then another associate with long black hair in a pony tail I couldn't tell if it was a male or female they had a really deep voice , the associate approached the other 3 associates at the register right in front of me to start gossiping with them . After they stopped talking the cashier rang me out and didn't even ask if I found everything alright or apologized for making me wait while they were just talking . What a great experience I had at Ulta beauty in Gurnee. Sarah was a true professional and oh my God I love my haircut I can now wear my hair and be comfortable wearing it. Sarah took her time and really gave me that wow experience I was definitely looking for in a salon. I didn't feel rushed and it was a relaxing environment.. if I wasn't rushing to pick up my son from daycare I would've definitely got a FACE FIT with Ashley or Stephane and also my brows done at the BENIFIT BAR with Katie... I was in there a couple times looking for something, and not ONE of their "diva" employees even TRIED to help me. I guess if you don't look like you have $$ to spend, they ignore you. On the OTHER hand, the Vernon Hills Ulta actually has employees that help you! A really sweet girl helped me last weekend. And when I called there today, she was REALLLLY helpful. Benefit brow bar is wonderful. You can book appointments, or roll the dice and walk-in. Not only will they will discuss what you want, but they show you the shape BEFORE waxing. Express facials for $20 are worth it. My deep cleanse included steam. I went back for a spa facial. So worth it. Lines can be long, even with all cash registers open. read more

I am furious with my stylist from the Ulta salon. I have very curly hair and went there for a trim, I explained to Rosalie the stylist how I have been growing out my natural hair for 3 years and wanted to see it blown straight. She informed me she would be cutting a half inch of hair, instead she cut over 3 inches!!! I noticed while in the chair but waited because I thought it looked short because it was frizzy. I am beyond upset my hair grows slowly and now I can't even pull it into a pony tail. To add insult to injury she cut in unevenly so now to fix her mess I would have to cut it even shorter. I am sure this salon might be find to others but for someone with natural curls avoid this place this woman doesn't know what she's doing. I am devastated. read more

Gurnee Ulta off grand between Jewel and TJmaxx. It's 12.19.2019 about 12:15 pm. So whoever is working at Ulta now, I'm talking about all of you awful girls. 0 our of 5 stars for all of the employees there. Even the old ladies that work there were rude. I just left Ulta after being there for over an hour. I was going through each perfume to smell which one I would like. Nobody, NOT ONE employee greeted me or asked me if I needed help. There were quite a few ppl and a lot of employees and they did greet everyone around me..... except for me! It was so rude and unprofessional. Now, I'm not sure why nobody asked me if I needed help. I was even standing in the hair care isle for at least 10 min looking around for someone to come by me and ask me if I needed help but nope. At least 3 Ulta employees walked right by me and didn't even give me eye contact. Are you joking?? I don't even know what to say. So- I'm Asian, I wasn't dressed bad, I wasn't sloppy or dirty, I'm not large, I'm not tiny, I wasn't dressed like a bum (regardless if shojldnt matter my race or what I'm wearing. I'm a freaking customer). I just don't even know why nobody said anything to me? Im really annoyed and I just walked out with out buying anything bc nobody helped me and I genuinely needed help bc I was looking for that Sebastian Dark Oil Fragrant Spray but even if I did end up finding it, I would have just put it at the front and walk out. I'm really just upset about this too. This might not be a big deal to ppl but there were so many customers around me that the jerk Ulta employees were greeting and asking if they needed help but totally ignored me. Awful treatment. I went into Ulta for glossing for my balayage. Hope did the glossing first and I thought it was going great. That's when I made the mistake of asking for a trim of 1-2 inches. She cut off 3-4 and all of the balayage out of my hair was gone. so I was back to my original dark brown color. Hope was not apologetic, looked confused on what happened. This review is for a stylist, Erin, who has done my hair a handful of times. So I moved to the area not long ago and had a couple bad cut experiences. I decided to try the salon at Ulta. Why not..? After a couple bad cuts and styles..I had little to lose. Anyway, I made an appointment for a cut with Erin. She was adorable and made a great impression from the start! My first cut and style were great. I returned and expanded services to highlights and color...again, super happy with her work! I returned this evening for another round of highlights, color, and cut...and she has transformed my hair! So grateful to have met this talented stylist!! Highly recommend!! read more

I like this Ulta but I didn't give it 5 stars because the people that work there have attitude problems. They never ask you if you need any help and when you ask them for help, they act like you are asking them to do something other than their jobs! They are remodeling right now so things are a bit of a mess. I LOVE Ulta, but the cashiers at this location are absolutely lethargic! I went it just before closing over the holidays and one turns to the other and says, "Thank God this is almost over," and turns to me with this pathetic look on her face. That is not what a customer wants to hear when they are about to spend several hundred dollars on product! The workers on the floor are pretty good, if you can track one down, but they seem to push the products they like, without considering your skin and how it may be different from theirs. I know that mostly teens work here, and that most of them are just part time, but a little training and expectations for professionalism would go a LONG way at this location. After all, I've been to several other locations with thee same demographics of employees and have never had a complaint. read more

It's sometimes pricey. It's got every cosmetic known to woman. I love the Anastasia brow powder duo, thanks to a fellow Yelper, and the Amazing under eye concealer- even at $27 a half ounce! It does the job, but that's way out of my usual price range. Even so, the staff is super helpful, Kimberly is a brow whiz at the Brow Bar (and would get 5 stars based just on her), and you get some decent rewards and discounts with the reward card- in addition to a birthday gift. Ulta tends to be Ulta, but going to this location is overall pleasant. The product selection is good and you don't feel like you are bumping into people or product trying to get what you need. The staff is extremely helpful in choosing products too...especially if you like to try something new and are on the fence about certain items. I left without my $300 + products as the one cashier spent approximately 15 minutes with one customer who needed to check out in three different transactions. I sometimes wonder if this Ulta is trying to win the award for worst Ulta of all time. They would honestly receive zero stars if that were an option. Since it's not an option, they get the one star; which I suppose they deserve because they do carry some items that I cannot find at Sephora. The customer service is non-existent. I recently went here twice in one week hoping for a better experience the second time. The first time I went that week a former employee was visiting the store and the staff was too busy catching up with her to be bothered with actual customers. Then when I went to purchase my items the employee at the register decided to take her friend before me. I was in line and her friend walked up, she asked if she was ready to check out and then took her ahead of me. The manager noticed and called me to his register. I was going to complain, but then I realized that would be a waste of time because one of my biggest pet peeves at Ulta is that they never look up the amount of points that I have accumulated. This is a problem at all the locations I visit, not just this one. For those unaware Ulta has a point system where you can earn money off your order, but they never look up my points! Even the manager didn't bother to look up my points. I'm constantly receiving emails about how important I am as a platinum member, but store staff doesn't seem to share this same view. On my next visit that same week, five employees passed me by without saying so much as one word. I did have questions and was about to ask the fifth employee, but she must have noticed that I was going to have her do some work and quickly looked away. It was at that point that I put down the items I was planning on purchasing and walked out the store. I don't know that I'll ever return to this location. While they do carry items that I can't find in Sephora, there are a lot of things that they never have in stock. I have complained about this location to their corporate office before, but nothing ever changes. In most cases they don't bother to respond. I have gone to the salon at Ulta for many years and have always been happy with my results. I have tried many stylists due to my scheduling conflicts (I like stick to one stylist usually but sometimes there are conflicts and you need to use someone new) and have been pleased with all. Roaslie has done my hair for years and is fantastic and always remembers what you like. I just had a cut with Erin for the first time and she was great - meeting me in the middle between what was really best for my hair and what I was comfortable doing. The great thing is they work as a team - no matter what "level" of stylist you get, they often consult with each other, especially when it comes to color, so you are getting a lot of experience and expertise. read more

I was excited to have an Ulta near me as we are a military family and move around every couple of years. I purchased a wand curling iron, signed up for the rewards program and was told that if I didn't like the product I could return it. I tried it and did not like the result it produced. I went to return it tonight, knowing that my purchased is registered under my rewards card. The cashier refused to give me a refund and said, in a condescending tone "well, you did use it once right?" I said yes, but I didnt care for how it worked on my hair. She said she could not give me a refund even though the proof of purchace is on my rewards card. Unknown to me at the time the receipt says "dissatisfied" with a $1.68 charge. I have never returned anything to Ulta and after this experience and getting a gift card instead of a refund is unacceptable. They should have simply refunded my $62.68. Now, I will no longer shop there because of the cashiers condescending attitude. It clearly states on the back of the receipt "Returns are easy! No need to have the original printed receipt when you make a return if you used your Ulta Rewards membership number on your purchase. Clearly, Our cashier was not aware of that policy. I would formally like to request a complete refund, not a gift card. Thanks to Shannon, after almost a week I finally got a refund. Not sure about the rest of the employees but I had an incredibly nice Clinique lady help me find highlighters. However a few of the Better Than Sex mascaras had issues with the product. If I had not asked for a sample I would have bought the mascara that was totally unusable. They also don't have enough products out so make sure to ask if they have any products put away. I love going in for Madison in dermatology. She does an amazing job with me and my brother. She is so nice and easy to talk to and won't force you to buy things you don't need. She only tell you what you need but always recommends buying the small ones first to try out. My only issue is the brow bar I have only been there 2 times and really liked Katie's work. I tried getting my brothers eyebrows done after our dermatologists appointment, which they said they could do but not fully wax because of the creams, we were put as walk-in by one of the brow bar girls. Showed up 10 minutes before the appointment and had to sit there for around 30 minutes after our appointment because they helped the people with appointments after us. Once they had finally figured out how to put us with someone who could help us. They asked my brother before we even sat down if he was 18 or older. I understand that they have certain rules and all but if we came and checked in but he clearly doesn't look 18 don't make us sit there wait when to begin with you had no intention of taking us. I understand there are rules but at least let the customer standing there watching you what your rules are before they waste 40 minutes there for nothing. read more

I am unhappy with the attitude and customer service in this place. I get my eyebrows done at Ulta and every time I go there (walk in or by appt) no one even acknowledges me. I stand there and awkwardly stare at the lady doing someone else's brows. She can see me but doesn't even glance over to say hi or tell me she will be right with me. All I want them to do is to acknowledge me so I can look around while they finish up the other person instead of waiting there and starring at them. Yesterday I saw Chloe. She was rude because she didn't even tell me that she took the skin off my eyelid until I noticed it later. I have damaged skin now and most likely will be like this for at least a week. I went here after years of going place to place to get my eyebrows done and having them done wrong. I finally got a great employee and I think her name was Denise who knew what she was doing and I am happy to say I finally got my eyebrows to a good place. She was able to shape and tint them to my satisfaction. I couldn't be more delighted. I would gladly spend 40 dollars on my eyebrows as long as she keeps up the good work! Yesterday (6/29) I was at the Ulta Beauty in Gurnee, IL. When I first walked in I saw an associate crying to her other coworkers. I went shopping around for a while when I noticed what happened to be a manger whose name I later asked for (Allison). She pulled the crying associate aside and looked as if she was talking down to her and MADE HER GO ON THE REGISTER!!! Who sends a crying employee to the register to see everyone they are checking out!? This manager needs to be taught respect and manners. I felt so bad for the girl. I hope it gets fixed because a manager would never do that to an employee. And to be honest, this isn't the first time i've seen managers treat their employees horribly. read more

I went back for another item to get with a headband I had with my purchases since the second Scunci item would be half off. The salesgirl took away the headband and charged full price for the second item. The headband had been in my bag. She took it out of the bag and off the receipt while I was getting the second item. I really don't understand how a cashier can be that dumb, and also do something while I was away from the register. I was surprised when I didn't have the headband. Watch everything the girls there do. They are just passing time, not serving customers, and they don't really care. I would rate this Ulta very low on customer service. I had a to get my makeup done at the last minute. I was going to get my makeup done with the bridal party I was in. But the girl who was doing it said it would be 75mins. I didn't have the time so I rushed to ulta. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get anyone to do it. But Erica at the Lancôme counter was amazing and helped me. It looked perfect. She listened to what I was looking for and made suggestions. My make up lasted all night and was not caked on. The other bridesmaids wished they went to ulta as well. They were not a fan of their make ups. But looooved mine . I cannot thank ulta enough for helping me out and being so kind. read more

There are only a very few people in the store that are actually nice. When you go up to the counter, no one says hi or asks for your rewards points. While you're walking around the store the employees don't even smile or ask for help. The only nice people are the girls at the salon and the greeter. This place needs WORK. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with this place. This is where I usually purchase my higher end makeup. I do like to watch for promotions or sales and stock up when my favorites are on sale or try new products when I can get them for a deal although I do pay full price for my must haves. This is where the hate part of the relationship comes in. Many times, the items are not in stock and pretty much every time I've shopped there, the register did not ring up the correct prices. This is pretty annoying having to remember the price of everything so you can check the scans. The staff always seems surprised and doesn't know what's on sale so you have to wait for another employee to check and sometimes you have to go show them where you found the product and where the sale signs are. Not sure why they can't seem to get it right. There also are never staff around to ask questions, you have to go on a scavenger hunt to find them. read more

Let me just start off by saying that I created a yelp account in order to write this review. So on saturday, I went in for a balayage and came out with yellow tips, orange hair, and black roots. I was not happy, so I called the store manager later on in the day (it was my first time doing this) and she was very sweet about everything! She asked me what happened, and helped me schedule another appointment with the salon manager. So far so good! I kept my hopes high, and tried not to cry about my hair (I cried a little) but I hoped it was just a miscommunication with my last stylist. I went in today and met with Kelly who was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! She listened to my concerns and asked many different questions. I showed her photos of my previous appointment, and a photo of how I would like my hair to turn out after a few sessions. She was just the sweetest! She didn't make me feel bad at all, and when she was done with my hair, I hugged her twice! She color corrected my orange hair into a beautiful dirty blonde ombre along with a PH bonder to save my hair. We kept my roots dark with a beautiful color melt/ shadow root blend. Went this this store recently and tried to return 2 items without a receipt. I know this sounds like the typical complaint but I called prior to driving to the store to make sure it would be alright. When I got there the woman who was helping me was willing to do the return and issues the store credit.. what I expected and was told on the phone. Needless to say she was issuing me less than half the amount that was paid for the items. 32 dollar item and she was only giving me 14 dollars store credit. She told me it's on sale and that was the reason. Online the item was not on sale and the type of item this was... never goes on sale! Ever! After management comes and tries to explain that that's the price of item... turns out. It was a lie. I ended up calling a different store and they would be willing to return the item for the current cost. I just don't get how two stores could not be on the same page. I will now spend my $14 store credit and continue to buy my monthly supply of cosmetics at macy's. I refuse to go to any ulta stores ever again. read more

I kind of like the gurnee store since it's really the only option if you REALLY like product but the lines are unacceptable. And then if you get a salon service you can't pay a the salon....you have to get in line and wait another 10 minutes to check out! Not thrilled about being on display for shoppers (@ salon) but I guess that's just the way they roll. Salon prices are a lil steep. I do love the points program tho. read more
