I'm reveiwng the make up application salon! I rarely wear make up and wanted an elevated look for a wedding I was attending. It was easy to book online, though a little unclear what I was getting for the "every day makeup" tier vs the glam look. I paid $50 and it took about an hour. Jackie was my stylist. She was friendly and talented. I let her work her vision and it turned out nice! A touch glamier than I was envisioning, but again that was mostly on me for not knowing what I wanted haha. The Plymouth location is closer to me, but the Maple Grove location will always be my go-to! I'm always greeted and acknowledged as soon as I walk in, and the staff consistently make me feel welcome. I actually went twice yesterday--once around 2 PM and again at 4 PM--and both times they were fully staffed and attentive. Before that, I stopped at the Plymouth Ulta but left within minutes. I wasn't acknowledged, couldn't find anyone to help, and only saw two staff members behind the counter. My first visit to Maple Grove was for a complete makeup overhaul, and Erin was absolutely amazing! She spent almost an hour helping me find products that matched my skin type and tone perfectly. She was patient, knowledgeable, and offered so many great recommendations. Knowing that Ulta employees don't work on commission made me appreciate her time and effort even more. My second visit was to exchange an eyebrow pencil I accidentally grabbed in the wrong size earlier that day. Since I was closer to the Plymouth location, I sent my daughter in to see if they could process the exchange and still honor the same $20 off $100 discount I'd used earlier. Unfortunately, they said no. We didn't push it and instead went straight back to Maple Grove--and, as always, they took great care of us! Kamila greeted me right away, recognized me from earlier, helped me make the swap, and honored the discount. Maple Grove Ulta truly stands out for their exceptional customer service and consistency. When I walked in it took awhile to get someone to help me, I was just standing around looking and trying to find someone who worked there. When a woman in random clothing asked if I needed help after staring at me. She looked at me like I was crazy and was very rude telling me the item was out of stock. read more

I've been coming here for years for a gloss in the salon. Sometimes it's amazing, sometimes it isn't. The turnover is hard, as I constantly have to try someone new. Usually gloss leaves my hair shiny and luxurious (shades EQ by Redken), but the past few times I went to the new girl, she does it at the sink and I get uneven color and she sometimes misses whole sections when it's rinsed. This feels gross and sticky and unclean. It's always all over my skin, and I know there is a product that helps remove that, but she doesn't use it. It's frustrating. Processing at a sink isn't just extremely uncomfortable, but it makes the whole experience feel rushed and I can't relax. I hope salon management realizes this and corrects the stylists. I hate having to go home after being at the salon just to take a shower and rinse it properly before a blow-out. For $100+, I should not have to do this. read more

I was informed by Earl a Guest Services Manager that a replacement order of Lancome (stolen from the doorstep of my daughter's apartment)would be replaced at the Maple Grove,Minnesota Store. I visit the store for the replacement product(per the instructions of the Guest Services Manager,Earl) and was told by the Store Manager,Gina that no replacement products would be provided. "Take it up with the carrier company" she rudely stated. Terrible,terrible customer service. Do yourself a favor and pass on shopping at the Maple Grove Ulta. Horrendous manners at the cash register. I don't "have" to do anything except shop somewhere else. I bought $50 worth there today and it's all getting returned because I don't want any of it in my house. To the cashier with the bright orange braids: "Please", "Would you mind stepping over here?" "Did you find everything you need?" "Can I assist you if you didn't?"and "Thank you, have a nice day!" are words and phrases you should be practicing. I rate my experience a "0". read more

Now that I have read the other customer reviews, I feel a lot better. I know I am not alone. I had scheduled a few appointments online, but each time, *they* cancelled on me. I call for the appointment today, and they tell me I am only allowed to do a walk in because I was cancelling and doing no shows!!! What??? So, their system is broken, but it's my fault? A walk in, of course, is impossible. For one, I wouldn't get the stylist I want, and two, my hair takes like 3 hours. No one would ever have time for me. They offered this to me as if it was a perfectly good solution, when it is not. Also, I don't know what is up with their receptionist, but she refuses to let you talk. She interrupts and doesn't let you communicate, and this has happened twice. She tries to be nice, that is true, but completely incapable of letting someone talk. People find that to be very rude - with good reason. I don't know how they stay in business treating customers this way. If I really had a pattern, that would be one thing, but I don't. I have never been treated this way. I can't believe how insulting it was - to have my business turned away like that and claiming it was because I was responsible. I will be posting this on every review available. That is how upset and angry I am. read more

Employees here are extremely rude, and it shows. Overheard that someone made a spill on accident and their response was (when they thought she left) "How are you gonna say you didn't know, you know you spilled", and "Respect other people's property". Although I completely agree with respecting other's property, the girl who made the spill was on the verge of tears and red in the face. You could tell that she didn't notice what she did, and it looked like she was having a panic attack. When one little accident is made, they immediately become rude to their customers. I work in customer service myself, and am always willing to clean up a spill that a guest makes, the last thing I would want would be to make the customer feel bad for a simple mistake. Unfortunately this Ulta falls short for me when it comes to customer service. I stop in on my lunch break every so often and I tend to see a common theme: they have a tendency to be understaffed, making it difficult to find someone to help locate what I'm looking for and accounts for long-waiting lines at the check out counter. I have also noticed that staff often times won't acknowledge customers as they are walking in and instead tend to chat amongst themselves. When it comes to makeup recommendations it has been hit or miss. A few times, I've gotten excellent recommendations for a new product or new color. Other times it has been obvious when an associate is making something up on the fly when they don't really know the product about which I am asking. I know that Ulta carries more products than one could possibly learn, but I'd rather someone tell me they don't know the answer (and then help me find someone who does) than try to BS their way through it. Overall the store is clean and has a good selection of products. I will continue to come here out of convenience, but will need to be better about doing my own research on products before coming into the store. read more

I really like this store, and by that I mean the store itself. It has a great layout, clean, huge selection, but the staff is horrendous. Every single time I go in there, the staff is focused on socializing with each other and act surprised when you interrupt them to ask a question. The St. Louis Park store is not as great, but the staff is really awesome. They don't hound you, but they are attentive, start conversations, make product recommendations and actually walk you to the part of the store where items you ask about are located. read more

For the first time since visiting Ulta in MN in the past year, I had fabulous service from the lovely hair stylist, Markita. There was many things from my service that is encouraging me to request for my future hair services from her and those are: 1) Her hands are quite light when applying chromatics color and styling my hair, which resulted in my dosing off because I felt so relaxed 2) She was careful when applying chromatics color, which resulted in little to no color on my hairline framing my face, which has happened when visiting another MN Ulta 3) She double rinsed my hair to ensure the chromatics color was fully washed out, which resulted the color not bleeding out I highly recommend Markita for your haircare salon services. I had some errands in MG and luckily this was right in the area I was at. I also went in bare-faced hoping I could get makeup done. I walk in and there she is. Heather is a rep for Stila. She is a raving beauty and wears the product well. They don't charge for this service but want you to buy something. I ended up buying most of what she put on me. Even doing it myself the next day, this stuff is an instant mood changer. They carry bare minerals brand which I also like. Stila is more wet than dry including the eye shadow. She was wearing glitter eye shadow, which didn't have the same effect on me, but I bought the Cloud eye shadow and I love it. I will seek her advice on future purchases. Lots of impulse buying here. They carry Vitabath products, including the original which dates back to the 60's. A good corner location in a huge mall. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! This Ulta location is definitely not one of my favorites. No one came up and offered me help or to ask if I had any questions. All of the employees were in the back of the store or grouped in other spots gossiping amongst each other rather than actually working and offering customer service. I received dirty looks and did not feel welcome whatsoever. Countless employees walked past me, looking right at me and still offered no help. I did not feel comfortable at all or like I was allowed to even walk up to them and ask questions being that they were all preoccupied with talking to each other and doing their own makeup. Went in today for scheduled hair appointment for a trim and curls with a half up/down hairstyle for a maternity photo shoot. First an appointment that should have been no longer than an hour and 15 min was 2.5 hours. After that amount of time when my hair had been curled the stylist combs them out and then mid doing the half up/down braid just walks away and does not return to my hair. I sat there for 10 min before asking another stylist if she knew where mine had went. She went to look for her and a couple min later comes to me and hands me my check and asked if she was done with what she was going to do. I told her no but that at this point I was going to be late for another appointment and this was just unheard of. I will give the store this, they gave me the service or lack thereof for free but didn't bother to offer anything else for the waste of my time and terrible service. Super disappointing today Ultra has Their liter sale going on I purchased $190 worth of shampoo and conditioners and they are out of the pumps that that go them. The pumps are $1 while on sale $3 normal price . I requested that they give me a rain check until they got them in since the warehouse is also out of them and they won't get them back in while the sale is on. they would not honor the sale price instead I have to drive 15 miles to another store to get the pumps not very good customer service. . Super disappointing If you're stopping in between now and 25 January for the liter Sale beware they are out of pumps. You're better off to go to a different store. read more

They have good products. I was there during construction so it was very hot, but I understand about that. The reason I gave them 2 stars was for their "dedication" to their points program. I purchased a $10 item and when I checked out the lady asked for my phone number. I declined, like always. Then she said, "well do you have someone else's phone number that could get the points?" I said no, obviously confused, why would I give out someone else's number. Then she said, "I just don't get you people." I asked what that meant. "I just don't understand why you don't want free money." This woman was rude and I will not return. read more

I had my makeup done at the salon for a wedding. It was TERRIBLE. Worst makeup of my life. Here's the rundown of everything that went wrong: 1. I asked for full coverage, and the artist barely covered light acne, leaving some parts of my face without any foundation or concealer at all. 2. She offered blush OR bronzer. Not both. Had to convince her to do both. 3. Applied mascara only to the tips of my lashes. 4. Told me to curl my lashes AT HOME because she didn't have a curler. 5. Did not do my brows and insisted I had already filled them in. I came in bare faced and have extremely blonde brows, so I don't even know what that was about. 6. Didn't put any eyeliner me, even though I had mascara and false lashes applied. (By that point I didn't trust this girl to put eyeliner on me!) I had to go home and redo concealer, foundation, contour, blush, eyeliner, mascara & brows. Might as well have done everything myself. read more

I love going to ulta and usually have a very pleasant experience except at this location. The past few times I've gone in the employees have been rude, unhelpful and continuously stand around talking to each other. I thought I would give this location another try so I went in today and nothing has changed. 5 employees huddled together talking, while none of them even attempted to move out of the way when I tried to squeeze by to get to a product I wanted to buy. No one smiles either, they all just glare at you which is wildly uncomfortable. I didn't even end up buying anything and just left and ended up going to the coon rapids location. Ulta receives 0 stars!!!!! I went shopping yesterday with my girlfriend to many shops at the Maple Grove shopping center. I received an alert from my credit card there was a large charge made at Ulta. I looked at my receipt and the salesperson had double charged me the perfume I bought! My bill was over 200$ Mind you, I only bought 2 cheap shampoos for my husband, a small brush, and the perfume. Wow! I called the store at 5:55 pm (before they closed) and spoke to someone to let them know about this horrific mistake. I told them I live 45 minutes away! They told me to bring in the receipt and they would credit my account. The very next morning when they opened, I brought everything I bought and my receipt. I asked for the manager. I told her my issue and said this was a huge mistake, not an 'Oh, no, we are sorry mistake but an overcharge of 85$ mistake! The manager's excuse, "Oh, our scanner must of made the mistake. They are very sensitive." Excuse me! An 85$ overcharge, I think NOT! She did not apologize, she even made me get in line to receive my proper credit. She did not take care of this problem for me! Oh my gosh! At this boiling point, I knew I wanted EVERYTHING CREDITED. After staying in line-the new sales clerk had no idea what to credit me. She even asked if I wanted to keep one of the perfumes, excuse me...no, your store person overcharged me! As I was repeating my problem, the store manager was bouncing back and forth behind the register. I spoke up and said, "I just dealt with this with your manager who is behind you. I need a double credit of the 85$ perfume and all the other items I am returning." The awful, rude, and pathic manager whispered something into the clerk's ear. After, she credited my account. Again, NO APOLOGIES FOR MY INCONVENIENCE OR THEIR MISTAKE! As I was walking out, the manager in an extremely condescending way told me to 'have a good day.' I will never shop at Ulta again. They all need mindfulness, politeness, diversity, and salesmanship training. read more

Horrible service in the salon! Went in to have my hair colored and cut... cut was great... color was horrible. When I pointed out my concerns (1. Looked nothing like the picture and 2. Was multiple colors and not in a good way) the stylist attempted to sell me on it rather than say sorry let's come up with a plan to fix it... I had to express my concerns in order for them to offer to fix it. I went back the next day and their correction was a joke. Damaged my hair and the color was terrible ( I went to another salon to get a quote to fix it and they thought I did it myself at home). When I complained that after 10 hours my hair was not only a mess but damaged I received a call from the manager " come up with a plan to fix" the disaster the Manager Rachel felt it was appropriate to be aggressive and lecture me. . . And was offended when I stated I wasn't comfortable going back to let them attempt to fix the color job for a 3rd time. Never did I receive an apology... just a ton of excuses. . . Even after explaining to me both times what was done wrong. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE ...great way to waste a couple hundred bucks read more

While I like the convenience of being able to pick up some silicone-free products I use, I am not impressed with much of the staff. When I visited the store on one of my first outings after having major foot surgery (in March 2019), I was having a difficult time maneuvering my knee scooter to get in and out of the store. Three of the Ulta employees were gathered near the entrance, talking as if they were NOT working, and seemed to be totally oblivious to me struggling to get in and out of the store with my knee scooter. That left a very poor impression upon me and I only go to Ulta when I absolutely need to now. read more

I went here spontaneously to get a haircut and received the best one I've had in years. The stylist was knowledgeable and friendly...I was very pleased with the results! Although not the cheapest haircut, it was also not the most expensive ($45 with tip). This store also has great sales on product. read more

For the second year in a row I've come to this location to get my free birthday gift and was extremely disappointed that they were out. Now I understand that things run out of stock (especially if they are free). On both occasions including my most recent visit I was told to come back and they would have more in a few days. Not sure if there are a lot of Birthdays this particular month or they don't get enough in stock, but I think I am done trying at this location. Every time I've been guilted into getting the same mascara. Honestly, i wouldn't be upset except for the salesgirl telling me that because the gift was a shadow pallet it would be substituted for a different small "Birthday" pallet only to come back and be offer something I don't want. read more

Horrible service! My sisters and I go there a lot to try on makeup and whenever I go I happen to see two particular workers each visit: a thick Asian girl with blonde hair and older white lady with silver shirt pixie cut. Whenever we'd go they would call security to "scare" us off as if we were stealing, but...really we're always there trying makeup on. One day the Asian girl saw us again and told the older lady which I'm guessing is a manager that we were there again. They apparently think we're attempting to steal just because we don't want help and we said we're only trying makeup on every time we go. That day the older lady kept trying to talk to us every 3 minutes or so and after answering she literally stood next to us and stared at us applying the makeup or made sure we weren't "stealing." But we stayed put and continued what we were doing because we weren't doing anything wrong. We moved down an aisle because it got awkward and she followed us and stood at the end of the aisle doing nothing but stare! I got frustrated with her obvious stares so I said "I hate racial profiling." I said it because they didn't bother with people who weren't colored. So we moved again but this time she jumped right in front of me and said "it's not okay for you guys to come here a lot just to try makeup on. You should be buying our stuff." That was very rude of her so I responded "yeah whatever," and left. read more

Really frustrating experience. Walked in with 2 13 year old girls. We wanted help choosing concealer and foundation for the first time. There were three employees standing and talking as we walked in. Instead of helping us, they all walked away. No one would help us. We tried some items on our own, but didnt want to spend $200+ without a little help. Went to Clinique and Mac instead. I have had better experience at an Ulta in Phoenix, but i don't plan on ever shopping here again since they clearly dont want my money. read more
