I arrived at the store at 2:30 PM and checked in for my curbside pick up order after 10 minutes. I noticed no one had come out so I called the store. They told me they only had three people on the registers, even though I could see from my car that there was someone just standing around the entire time I was waiting for my order. After waiting for another half an hour, I called the store again and I did not receive my order until 3:15 PM. For starters, the atmosphere is absolutely terrible, the lights are so unbelievably bright it gives such a terrible headache. There are shelves in the middle of the main isles with products on them, but if you touch or even go near them they start loudly beeping nonstop. All the products are so strangely organized without any signage as to where anything is, leaving you wandering aimlessly through the blinding white aisles. I hate this store! After going in here to get foundation recommendations, I will never be back. Only time I will go back to Ulta is if their prices are better. I got help as soon as I walked in, she recommended me Lancôme. Most expensive in store. She color matched me. I then asked looking around what other foundation would she recommend pointing to nars- she blew me off right away said this is all she uses. This is the best one and then asked if I needed any more help and so I asked her for a sample she said no we don't do samples no more I said really, I've always received foundation samples. No no samples I then asked. Are you doing any samples of foundation or just this brand? She said no samples are given. I then said I believe are you selling this foundation on your sale list for being on sale next week she denied it said that there's never sales on this brand. LIE. If you work at a store, you need to be educated on what is happening ---like the sales advertising. I felt rushed, wasn't allowed to look around and try on anything many many stares and look dows, and they only wanted me to purchase the most expensive foundation. Store was dirty, had stands that had maybe four items on it with a big piece of paper that said TRASH there's probably seven stands like that all around the store I did continue to look around because that is why I went to the store. Another sales person approached me and was introducing me to the brand Fenty. She was older and very nice and helpful all until another younger very pretty lady interrupted us and asked for a color match. She immediately stopped helping with me, didn't say a word like excuse me, or a hold on one moment to the lady who interrupted us, and just left and went and helped her. There is many other people walking around where she could've called and had another associate after she was finished helping g MS. Interrupter We locked eye contact no words was exchanged. I walked out after that. Went to Sephora the next day. Was helped as soon as I walked in the door I asked what foundation they would recommend they color matched me by a phone thingy and took pictures of my forehead and cheek, and jawline to color match me for any foundation in the store, then the associate said I would really recommend yves- it looked wonderful on me. Then she asked if I would like a sample. Do what!!!!! YES ma'am! She then said I would also recommend Lancôme - which also looked very nice on my skin. She asked if I wanted a sample of that. I said yes please. Please note Ulta wouldn't give me any samples even after asking. AND when I was color matched at Ulta, it was definitely the wrong color and totally different than what Sephora matched me. Sephora match was spot on! The associate then asked if there's any other brands that I would be interested in went with Nars and received my 3rd sample. The best help was Sephora! Sephora was also having a sale on Huda products and I was able to get some bomb eyeshadow at a killer price plus more samples with the purchase of the eyeshadow. SCORE! Ppl don't go to Ulta. I've been having really bad skin problems since I moved to the area from another state. My friend suggested I go to an Ulta, see a skin therapist, and have them do a face mapping. When I arrived at this location I was greeted the moment I stepped in the door, the staff wasn't pushy nor hovering over me, and it's the week of Thanksgiving so I was really surprised. I asked someone by the perfumes if the skin therapist was in and she checked for me, informed me it would be a 15 minute wait, then offered to help me with anything else while I was waiting. As soon as Julie was ready she promptly found me in the store, checked out my skin, and recommended some products to me which I found very helpful. I had stopped getting my eyebrows waxed right around when COVID started. I had surgery just before and am already disabled and was having a hard time at European Wax. I couldn't get up on table without help and there were no other ways they could figure out. I was also very self conscious. When COVID hit I just stopped going. My eyebrows started driving me crazy after a while and when I was chatting with a friend about it she suggested ULTA. She said they do their waxing in chairs. I called and was lucky to get Crystal. She made me instantly comfortable. She did a great job on my eyebrows & I found out she was also a hairdresser. At the same time my hairdresser had just doubled all her prices and I was going to Natick and had to find a ride. She was never on time and it was hard to get an apt. So I figured that if I tried Crystal and had a bad hair cut I could just blame COVID and go back to my old one. It was perfect timing. Crystal gave a great haircut and now I get my hair and eyebrows done by her. Before this I didn't know ULTA had these services. I'm sure I'd seen it but it never really registered. I'm giving the 5 stars for Crystal, her service and the skills she has. If I had to rate ULTA without Crystal I'd give them a 3. I've tried a few times to make an apt using the app. It never works and I've had to call everytime for an apt but that's not her fault, it's ULTA's. There's no checking in when you get there so if my hairdresser is in the back and doesn't know you are there you have to wait and hope they find you. I would say it's def worth trying the salon and def try Crystal in SHREWSBURY. They have other stylists too. Some ULTA's do facials, etc. but I haven't tried those yet. All Ultas look and feel the same which is perfect! I never get too lost in one of these large locations due to this. This location definitely follows suit which I loved! However, the staff was literally following me around the entire store. I was asked by 5 different girls if I needed any help, all of which I told I was fine. I get it, you want to be helpful and I appreciate that, but it was honestly overload and annoying. A few times, in different departments, I would turn and there would be the same girl. Ulta has a very large range of products which is a plus. Their staff are not well versed in, or even seemingly remotely familiar with, the products they sell. If you need help or have questions about a particular product, go to Sephora or another Ulta location. The one in Northborough has a good selection, but their knowledge is lacking. For example, my husband went to buy me the Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner travel set for Christmas. These pencils are much smaller which makes them ideal for keeping in my purse and travel kit. He asked where to find it and the woman said they didn't have it and told him a full size dual ended pencil was the "same thing". Not even close. And they DID have it with their travel minis, but not in the a Urban Decay section. Also, I was checking out recently and asked to use my points. Blank stare. The woman had no idea what I was talking about or how to apply my points credit. The Ulta Rewards program is one of the few reasons I still shop at Ulta at all. She had somebody else come and do it, but all the cashiers/employees should know about their rewards program. If you know what you want and don't need help, then this Ulta is ok. This Ulta location is close to my workplace. I go there often, and I'm a platinum member. I went this past Saturday evening, and I was, perhaps, the only customer in the store around 7:30. There were two girls working at the time. I was buying 3 items from It Cosmetics and Urban Decay, totalling over $80. I asked if there were any coupons that cover these brands out now, and the girl at the register told me they sometimes send them out, but not to everyone. I told her that I hadn't gotten an email from Ulta in a long time. She said I needed to add my customer number into the app and interact to start getting emails again. Then, there was another step - can't recall at this moment. I was trying to get her to help me, because I knew that if I left, I'd forget it all. She was trying to get me out of her way. Not for another customer, because there were NONE. The other worker was also up at the register talking to her, and neither tried to help me. The one not on the register walked off and left me with miss snooty-pants. This girl badly wanted me to leave without helping me and told me things (with a smile) like you should go home and do it on the computer--our wifi is no good here. (BTW, I didn't need their wifi). I got the 1st of the 2 steps done, without her help, but in front of her, and I asked about the other step. This girl was not going to help me, so I turned away to go. As I did, she immediately pulled out her cellphone and started playing, which is why she wanted me out, clearly. And I highly doubt they are allowed to do that at the registers. I walked out to my car and called the Ulta customer service, who took my complaint and said the manager of the store would be calling me. 3 days later, no phone call. I called customer service again and said I wanted my complaint to go to the next level. They said they were sending both complaints to the district manager, who would call me within 2 days. I am currently in tears, IN TEARS after my Salon experience. To begin with, I was scheduled to be with a very talented colorist. When I got there, a girl named Laney was the only hairdresser working, and told me the girl I was scheduled to be with couldn't make it. She assured me coloring was her favorite and she would make me love my hair. WRONG. Did I mention I am in tears? I never complain about anything. I have blonde hair and I asked to not have the yellow gold blonde color, and after about two hours THAT WAS WHAT I GOT. I told the manager my situation and she says she will call me later this week. Upon arriving home and getting a closer look to my hair, I broke down. The color is not only gold, but YELLOW/ORANGE. And for the haircut, it is extremely uneven, one side is longer than the other! The color is extremely uneven and I have light spots and dark spots. I cannot believe the mess she has done to my hair. I wouldn't be surprised if the hairdresser graduated Beauty School yesterday. The store has makeup. This is good. The store has a salon. It is bad. I took advantage of a promotional offer for a gel manicure $25 was the promo price and that was still rather pricey, normally the service is $35. The manicure was supposed to last 2 weeks. It lasted 16ish hours. I looked like an idiot for most of the week until I could get it redone. Some of the color peeled and some literally popped right off. When I called, the person I spoke with was very nice and scheduled a re-do with the manager. The manager was nice and definitely seemed to do a better job. Even as a better job, it is NO WAY ON EARTH a $35 manicure. Even if it stayed on it would not be worth $35. I've spent less on axxium gel manicures which actually last, you get your nails cleaned up, and a hand massage...you know...pampering. Did it stay on the second time you ask? No. It did not. Again, less than 24 hours later, gel color peeled and popped off. Perhaps they missed a step? Perhaps I tried two different faulty color? I don't know, but I won't try it again and I recommend you don't either. I give one star for the bad manicures and the second star because they did take the time to do it over. I can't get my two hours and money back but I can help you avoid wasting your time and money. Buy all the makeup you can rock, but run, RUN away from the salon. read more

The staff in the cosmetic department here are extremely rude. I walked in today looking to purchase a foundation from Tarte which I have been purchasing through Ulta for a year now. When I asked where I could find it I was asked "you actually like that foundation" accompanied with nasty looks. If I did not like it I wouldn't have come in looking for it. When I said I in fact did like the foundation and would consider something similar I was told they had nothing that would be close to it since they didn't like it. So in the ENTIRE store there is not one product similar to what I'm looking for? I then said I would look online and they told me "the company won't even sell that stuff anymore" followed by more rude looks. While shopping around on my own since none of the associates could bother to help me since I was so CLEARLY beneath their "beauty expertise" I googled the product and found the company in fact did still sell the foundation as well as recommendations for similar products. One product was sold at Sephora. I never shop at Sephora but I figured anything would be better than how I was treated by your employees at Ulta. The associates at Sephora listened to my needs, matched my tone and found me FOUR products that I may like as well as helped me with their own recommendations with products not found in store. The clerks here are awful! I came here all excited as I've never been to Ulta (only Sephora) and love the thought of having high end and drug store all in one. I don't care if Sephora and the drug store are 50 miles apart and Ulta is right there...I would drive the 50 miles to avoid having to go to Ulta and deal with the absolutely awful clerks!! i was in a massive bind. I had just had my hair done and the stylist turned it grey green and white. I had a weekend that was booked for minute to minute after that evening. I went in to ULTA, Just about in tears i walked to the back and there was a girl ringing someone out. i waited she looked at me and asked what happened? i told her the story , asked her was there anything she could do. I love the brands they carry but hate their customer service. They fail. Every. Single. Time. From having to hunt down salespeople to help to being rushed when asking a question, this Ulta fails. Tonight I called to ask if they carried something. After listening to the menu, I was given the option to speak to someone, which ended up being the salon. I was transferred to the front, and put my phone on speaker while I waited for someone to answer. Five minutes later, the woman who answered the phone assured me that they had the product I wanted. This store has terrible customer service. No one ever offers to help me, which is fine because I didn't need it tonight. The problem is what I witnessed tonight. I was 3rd in line (one customer at the register, one person ahead of me), and there were two cashiers just chatting with the customer at the register for several minutes about nonsense. The customer in front of me announced "we're waiting" after several minutes of being ignored. Finally they took that customer, then took me. After the customer who said "we're waiting" left, the two cashiers verbally bashed her the second she walked out the door for speaking up. ULTA Manager says DOUBLE DIPPING IS OK!!! BEWARE THE HEALTH RISKS!! I wish I could give zero stars! I went today for a leg/bikini and underarm wax service and what I got was DOUBLE-DIPPING! I noticed immediately that the technician used the same stick over and over while doing my legs. I wasn't sure if that was just the "Ulta way of doing things" I usually go to Nicolas Michaels in Northborough, but they are closed on Mondays :( and they always use fresh sticks with each pass. I should have used my better judgement but I didn't want to offend the tech so I let her finish my legs and underarms. Having little knowledge of rules and regulations of waxing I decided to play it safe and skip the bikini wax. I ran home to google the matter. Guess what? MAJOR HEALTH RISKS... STD's, HEPATITIS, cellulitis and staph infections, just to name a few. I called the Division of Professional Licensure and spoke with the Cosmetologist Specialist and she said it was a health code violation and that I should file a complaint! An ULTA manager named Melanie called me back after I complained and said she spoke with her Spa/Salon Manager and that double-dipping is OK!!! She said there's no health code violation and it's the technician's discretion to use one stick or multiple sticks and that the wax is hot enough to kill bacteria. WTF!!! False and false again! I have a tiny open cut (bug bite) on my leg that was exposed to a public pot of wax. Not to mention, my underarms bled when she waxed them.. I'm pretty upset that I was exposed to a health risk and I'm even more upset that the manager was SO MISINFORMED about her own business practice. At the very least I was refunded my money. I've been in several times because I don't work or live very far and love the selection; however, when you ask questions the clerks make you feel like you're bothering them. They also appear rather snobby. In the approximate, 10 times I've been there, there was one very helpful woman. Unfortunately, I haven't seen her there since. Here's the story: My kids got gift cards for Christmas, so i took them there (Northborough), our first time ever inside a Ulta store.. for starters, I walked by some employees (about 4-5), feeling lost (as it was first time there), they were chatting among themselves, and nobody asked me if i needed help. SECOND.. after browsing for a while, my daughter was looking for a "Brow Pencil", so i asked one of the employees and she was like "Oh, an "EYE" brow Pencil" (as if we have other Brows in our body), she asked for who, pointed 2 brand options, but never bother to try it on on my daughter or at least suggest a collor for her.. she quickly vanished, so i took the sample and tried it on, another lady aproached me and kinda took the sample out of my hands and said, "yeah, this collor should be fine for her".. THIRD.. We finally went to the cashier, and the clerk (Taylor- reg 2 in my receipt) asked for a phone number, but i had no Account for that store, so she offered me to open one (like a beauty Insider from Sephora), it'd take only 2 seconds, i said "No, thanks", but she insisted and said, "are you going to loose points for this purchase?" I said yes, dont want to open the Account at this moment.. then, she said: "Ok, if you want to trow free money in the trash", i took a deep breath and held it together, so i wouldnt loose in front of my girls (12-14).. we paid for everything and, and she said " Have a good one" not even looking in my face.. i took a step, looked back and said "YOU'RE WELCOME". My kids couldnt believe how rude and unprofessional their service was.. I like makeup. I like Ulta, as a chain, because I can get cheap lip balm and expensive shampoo all in the same place, plus dump my paycheck on luxury makeup. This store, however, is THE WORST. My husband tried to return an Urban Decay primer (which never go on sale...) and they gave him $13 instead of $20. I called and was basically told, "Oh well, too bad". Tonight, I had him go back to get the primer (I'll keep it for the $13, thank you very much) with a link to the NYX lipstick I wanted, which was on sale from $5.99 to $3.59. He gets home and mentioned that it was $6. I told him no...it was on sale. He called the store and they said, "Our prices are different online", and that they wouldn't price match. Are you kidding??? It's YOUR store!! So frustrated. I literally only go there because they have the shampoo I like and it's closer than Sephora, but I will literally go out of my way to not go there anymore. This is on top of me going in a few months ago and asking if someone could help me with a contouring palette I had previously bought. Every time we go here, we're greeted and asked if we need help. If we say yes then an associate is happy to help us. If we say that we're browsing, we can leisurely look around. I was a little hesitant to go here, but Sunday is my only free day and my hair was in need for some major help.....I was scheduled with Jenn, but thankfully Sara, the salon manager was there during my assessment and decided it was best for her to try and fix my faded, rooty, brassy mess of hair. Sara worked wonders on my hair!! I had a full set of foils of high and low lights and she blended everything wonderfully. I'm pretty sure Jenn is new and inexperienced, but very sweet. DO NOT get your eyebrows done here. I would give 0 stars if I could. I go in and sit down and the lady takes a little wax and waxes the bottom of each of my eyebrows and is like ok your done. I'm like can I see them she's like ok, now I still have hairs all around my eyebrows I was like um could you clean them up? Aka, the bottom, top of my eyebrows, the middle etc. like ... actually do my eyebrows... (I didn't say it so rudely). She did one wax and thought that was enough.... so she goes back and needless to say I was like ok thank you she clearly had no idea what she was doing and I wasn't going to let her continue to ruin my eyebrows. I ended up going to a different salon later that day and the lady who fixed my brows was in complete shock that I had just gotten my eyebrows done. Total waste of time and money. Have been to this location several times. The last time I was in I was looking for a specific perfume. The employee I asked wasn't 100% sure if they had it or not so she asked another employee, which was appreciated. The employees seemed friendly to me, despite some of the other reviews !! read more
