Need to upgrade my makeup and get some tips. I'm not a real fancy make up person. But I had 2 women help me out, didn't make me feel stupid or silly and I left with some much needed new makeup. The best customer service I have experienced in quite some time. They have a huge selection of brands, unfortunately I wasn't familiar with most of them so I can't judge how their pricing runs. I shop here a lot. When they are busy, customer service really suffers, and I find myself constantly looking for someone to help. Vanessa at the salin is pretty good. She never blinks an eye when I ask her to cut my hair in a manner that's unconventional, not is she scared to do it. She is confident, and happy to get clients out of the norm and do something different. (Another stylist I went to there said I looked like the girl with the dragon tattoo, which is fine. But she was afraid of thr cut, and the end result was an uneven clipper line jumping from a one to a 2, and not blended thereafter. ) Most products are in stock. There is no brow bar, however. So if you're used to a location that has one, this is not it. The stylists also do brows here, but I refuse. read more

A recap of my awful experience at the Ulta Hair Salon: 1. I scheduled, called in to confirm a day before, drove half an hour to the salon the next morning only to find out my hair stylist whose name I will not mention was out sick. No one called to notify me. All I got was a "we're sorry." 2. When I came back for my rescheduled visit, I felt like I had people talking over me. I would ask a question and constantly felt like my concerns were being ignored. I felt like my opinion didn't count regarding my own hair. 3. I am a curly haired brunette and I wanted to be an all over blonde, I don't know how this was miscommunicated. I ended up with hair that looked like plugs. I had bright blonde highlights with my still dark brunette hair. Mind you I showed the hair stylist numerous pictures of the color I wanted. I kept pulling my phone out to remind them of my desired, realistic outcome of a girl whose hair looked like chewed up copper wire and was obviously a brunette with textured hair to begin with, much like mine. It was nothing far fetched, and I thought if it worked for her it would work for me too. 4. When I finally said to the stylist "I dont think I got what I wanted," they LITERALLY WALKED AWAY NOT SAYING ANYTHING OR OFFERING A FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENT TO FIX MY HAIR. And what's worse? The manager said they'd rather have me not come back to the same Ulta because what I want will continue to be miscommunicated. This is the first time I've been here to get my hair done and even when the outcome was not what I wanted, I politely asked what could be done about it. My feelings were hurt/ shattered and I looked like a chemotherapy patient. Point blank: If you decide to visit this Ulta hair salon, I hope your experience is better than mine, which was a nightmare from start to finish. I left feeling stupid, humiliated, and crying. There is nothing you can get here, that you can't get somewhere else. I strongly suggest you do that! If I could give this store negative stars I would. Against my better judgement, based on experiences with the rude staff in the past, I went to this store because I had about $20 worth of point to use and a $10 birthday reward. I was out of the perfume I use regularly, and the large is $120. I had a few other things to get so I grabbed the perfume and started to walk around. Upon doing so the alarm started to go off. I looked around for someone to help and no one seemed interested. After a few minutes (and growing irritation) an employee came over, ripped it out of my hands, saying "if you are ACTUALLY going to purchase this, you can pick it up at the register". I stood there dumbfounded at the fact the girl was suggesting that I was planing on stealing it. The girls have been rude and completely unhelpful in the past, but this was a whole new level. I started to walk around to find my other items and decided I was tired of coming here, so I left. I ended up going to Sephora down the street where there was close parking, I was greeted with a smile, and spoken to like a customer, not a criminal. I ended up spending $175 because I would actually rather be treated well at Sephora, than save $30 with Ulta. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION!!! STAFF IS RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!! I don't know what is worse at this location - the staff, the parking, or the store appearance. I came to this location for a total makeup overhaul. I needed all new stuff. I purchased about $400 worth of new makeup. A rep for PUR offered to help me find foundation. I usually use Juice Beauty and she proceeded to tell me that Juice Beauty is no good and to switch to PUR. While she was doing a foundation match she was preaching to me about Jesus Christ and the Lord. OMG I was dying inside. It was incredibly unprofessional. I'm not a religious person but if I was, she completely disregarded it. Needless to say I opted NOT to buy the PUR foundation as a result of this awkward interaction w/ the rep. I continued to shop by myself and did not receive any assistance from any of the associates. About 5 days later I decided to spring for some hair products too. I returned to this location and I purchased a blow dryer, a Chi round brush, and some Rusk shampoo. I had a coupon (20% off). I asked for some assistance with picking out the right blow dryer and the associate who helped me could not have been more annoyed. She was like "that ones good that ones good that one is ok. I mean any of them are fine". I said "well I have a LOT of hair, what would be good for less frizz but dries faster?" She said "any of them really". Whatever, I googled reviews and picked one that way instead since the associate didn't want to be bothered. I got home, showered, and attempted to do a blowout w/ the new dryer and round brush. After the second section of hair, the chi brush literally SNAPPED in half and went flying across the room. I'm like WHAT THE!?!?!? Guess I'm returning this! It was an $18 brush and I used my coupon on it (since it was the more expensive item. I couldn't use it on the blow dryer for whatever reason). My point? I saved all of $3.60 on the purchase. I took the brush back to the store w/ the receipt. I asked the associate "Can I return this, then get a price adjustment using the coupon I will technically be losing on the shampoo that I'm keeping instead". So essentially returning the brush and price adjusting the shampoo by $2.60 (it was $13). She said " I'll have to ask my manager. Go grab another round brush and we'll figure it out." I told her I was not interested in purchasing another brush (so it can break on me? no thanks) and I simply wanted my price adjustment on the shampoo. After a solid 30 seconds of awkward silence and a dead stare as if she was trying to translate retail language the manager comes over and says "do you have the shampoo with you" I told her no because I'm keeping it. She said "because of theft problems and shrink we need to have the shampoo here in order to return it and resell it to you w/ a coupon code. I'm like "ok i'll go grab one off the shelf so you have the SKU". She said no no you can't have that one. I told her "I don't want that one. I have one at home. I meant you can simply use the SKU then put it back on the shelf. Your inventory won't be shorted bc you're technically returning then reselling the same bottle to me". I mean am I the only one who has worked in retail and done a price adjustment w/out the item physically present?!?? This is like retail 101 here. Ok maybe this is simply a coaching opportunity for the manager and the sales associate. Bigger picture? You can see I just dropped $400 in your store less than a week ago. Just go above and beyond for the sake of good customer service and credit me $2.60 I doubt ULTA is hard up for $2. So I decided to call corporate to let them know about the situation and file a complaint regarding the snotty attitude and eye rolling and the lack of help that is WILLINGLY unavailable every time I'm in this store. Corporate was even WORSE. Corporate told me "um. Well like, sorry but there's nothing we can do. We'll just write down your complaint but we don't do follow ups". I asked what the point of corporate's customer complaint line is then if it basically goes off into the complaint abyss and nothing happens. The corporate customer service rep was just as rude as the store associates. I'm sorry but the customer service CULTURE at ULTA is crap. I have officially switched to Sephora and the associates are pleasant, helpful, and appreciative of my business. They go above and beyond every time I'm in there. If I could leave ZERO stars I would. This location is the absolute worst. I had an employee yell at me to put my mask on that she can hear me just fine which was completely uncalled for, is your mask broken? No then me having mine down for less than a minute is fine, there's no need to act like a lunatic. Then she proceeded to yell at customers standing in line that weren't 6 feet apart, this is exactly why no one wants to leave their house and go to a store physically. You have Covid NOTZI's power tripping in stores, and there's no need for this. Then at the register I gave my personal phone number To receive my rewards and that needed a manager approval out of nowhere not only that she asked me for my ID to make sure it was me after I had just read off my personal phone number I shouldn't have to show my ID to anybody for any reason it's absolutely absurd the way they do you things here. If you want your hair butchered come here. My stylist was talked up by the manager. She said she's was the only stylist she trusted. I should have taken that as a warning. The next day they also wrapped me up into ascheduling fiasco resulting in wasted time and being transferred and put on hold for 20 minutes. I brought in a picture of the haircut I wanted, a picture from the stylists own page. She decided to cut my hair dry. Not attempting to make it symmetrical. The cut looked nothing like the picture. She wasn't going to frame my face until I pointed it out. I told her I needed a very chic cut bc I'm going through a life change. A good cut makes a huge difference. I felt absolutely uncared for. My roommate and I came in to this ulta to get matched to a foundation. It was a rough start with being taken all over the store by one employee and then she just disappeared without a trace. Then another employee Britney came to help us. She was so amazing! She matched my roommate first and listened to everything she had to say and offered her products that actually worked! She didn't just try to upsell. One she matched my roommate she then moved onto me. Again she was listening to everything I was telling her about my skin type. She then matched me to a product and it was so amazing! Then we went to checkout and again had such a pleasant experience with the cashiers. I went in to buy some concealer this week and asked for some help with the color matching. I'm recovering from having plastic surgery on my face to remove some skin cancer. The area above my lip is very red and raw. The stylist who was helping me spent time with me and eventually talked me out of buying anything until my face is healed. She was so kind and caring. Slow to ship While Ulta has a great line of products that I've purchased in store numerous times my recent buying experience with Ulta online was terrible. It took 3.5 weeks to get a bottle of perfume delivered. Why the process takes that long is beyond me. After the first week I began calling because with amazon I've gotten spoiled with free 2 day shipping - companies have to learn to keep up otherwise it's just not worth the wait. Parking is absolutely atrocious. 2 PM on a Friday and after 20 minutes I gave up and parked at frys. So, between folks driving 2 miles an hour and pedestrians, parking was 40 minutes. Limp into the store (I need a knee immobilizer.) wait in line for birthday gift. Lady rings up birthday gift. Demands a coupon for gift. Despite it being almost 3pm on my birthday, and a rewards member for 5 years, no coupon in my email inbox or junk mail. Get told so sad, to bad. Wait on phone 5 minutes with customer service. Get emailed the coupon. Wait in line again. Takes cashier no less than six tries to input it correctly. And this store, as other reviewers have mentioned, is the most unorganized, under stocked, mess of a store I have ever shopped at. I gave up shopping there two years ago. I buy online now. I went to Ulta to get replacement Dermablend makeup. I am somewhat disappointed that they were out of stock. I tried another Dermablend product & the associate was very helpful & made some useful recommendations. I also got my hair trimmed at their salon & it came out great. Was to be hombre styles literally looked as if she put a hat on her colored it in the dark with two left hands. Horrible job. Will never return. Highly unlikely she even has her cosmetology license. I have already reviewed Ulta before but this put particular review is specifically about their beauty services provided out what they like to attempt to call a spa. In all reality there is just a room in the back where they provide a couple different things that sound great on paper when you sign up or call to sign up but in all reality you do not get what you think you're getting. If you go to their page http://www.ulta.com/beautyservices/menu.html you'll find all of the suppose it treatments that they do for hair skin etc. it all sounds great. But then you go to press book an appointment, and you find a location near you, and you realize they don't even offer A quarter of what is listed on the page regardless of which location. And what they do offer is overpriced for what they actually do, and they often try toraise the price by adding more time or finding some kind of issue that you have supposedly with your skin or hair or whatever. You go in thinking you're paying this much for this service but really you're going to pay more for less. I recommend just going to an actual salon read more

I want to review the salon there, particularly Kristina. When I walked in, I told her that she could do whatever she wanted to with my hair, and just gave her a few basic guidelines. My cut turned out amazing! I now have this punky choppy awesome cut, which I love and get compliments on all the time! She is not the super chatty or gossipy type, which is fine with me - though I know some want that from their stylist. Also, she is not as good with color as she is with cutting, but with suggestions from the other stylists my color turned out great as well. read more

I'm writing this review about the salon & a particular stylist named Jinny. Saturday was my birthday and I had stopped in at Primp & Blow across the street. (I wrote a separate review about that experience on Primp & Blow's Yelp page) It was 7:30 on Saturday evening. Primp & Blow closed at 8pm. Even though there were 4-5 employees there, they couldn't fit me in. So, I ran over to Ulta with the hope that someone would still be available to do my hair. That's when I met Jinny. She was working alone in the salon at Ulta (which is open until 9pm on Saturdays) and she was HAPPY to do my hair! I didn't ask how long she's been a hair stylist, but I could tell Jinny's been doing hair for some time. She's very good. I especially appreciated that Jinny explained what products she was using on my hair, why she had chosen those particular products and how she was styling my hair. Jinny also gave me some helpful hints on how to make it easier for me to do my hair myself at home. I'm happy that I went to Ulta and met Jinny. I'll go back to see her again~ next time for a cut. I'm thrilled that Jinny did what Primp & Blow could not, or would not do. read more

I was needing a simple trim and all over color to rid my hair of the bleached ends. I have done this before, using color or bleach since my hair is dark dark brown and never had a problem. It took her a little over two hours to apply the color to my hair. That sounds like an embellishment but sadly I am rounding down. After what seemed like an eternity I was led to the back so I could sit in the chair with the heat lamps. She had someone else come in while I was in the chair and I wasn't rinsed until she had finished with the other client. Then I got a blowout if you can even call it that, halfway done with parts of my hair still damp. That's not the worst of it though my hair had a weird greenish tint to it. Instead of saying I messed up she and a manager acted as if they saw nothing wrong. I paid and while I left I cursed myself for not being patient and finding a real salon. read more

First of all, I live right down the street so I come to this store often. They are almost always out of stock in various brands. When I ask a sales rep to check the back or drawers, they often shut me down saying there out. Isn't part of customer service to check inventory? Almost every time I go in I am frustrated and unsatisfied. I hope my story is shared with corporate so that they can help support this struggling store. There is a sephora right down the street and they always has products fully stocked while providing great customer service. I used to shop at Sephora for their points system and the only reason I switched to ulta was because they had a better rewards system. I feel like it's convenient that they have the local over the counter make up brands along with their higher end professional grade face paint. Plus one. I also kind of dig the hair salon although I will being using it for my first time soon. Plus one. Staff......... Not the best. I walk in and ask for an angled brush for my eye liner and I get helped which is fine. Then I need eye brow paint so I get some help for that however it took way longer than I would have liked. I understand these guys and gals are hired by certain make up brands to sell their product but customer service should come first. She tried some name brand that 'she knew well', then called another girl over to use a brand 'she knew well'. My eyebrows looked a hot mess. So minus two. I ended up buying the eye brow paint we originally tried. Turns out girl number 1 didn't even really use it right or pick out the right color for me and girl number 2 had to school girl number 1. Oh and my eye brows are confusing yes if you saw them you would understand. So I get that maybe these girls couldn't properly apply the make up but cmon how far outside of the lines did you use to color and how come no one told you it wasn't good enough? I swear my eye brows just about hit my forehead when she was done. And that's without raising them myself. Check out is always nice. Plus one. So staff sucks. That's probably the biggest issue with this location. A bunch of 20 something year olds is fine. Thinking they might be out of high school but high school sure hasn't left them yet. They like to discuss things on the floor that are probably better discussed in private and not while you should be focusing on my confusing eye brows. This Ulta is close to my house and I waited way too long to order my makeup online and wait for snail mail arrival. Decided to go in here today knowing they have the Smashbox products I needed. I wanted to try something different and was excited to try some new makeup. Always love when they help you out. Well the store was somewhat busy, it is the weekend, and they only had 2 women working in cosmetics. One of them was nice enough to notice me and tell me she was working with someone. So I stood and sat around for a good 10 minutes while the other girl helped 3 other people who were there after me. I even asked if there was anyone else who could help. I mean come on, just because I'm not an aggressive older Biltmore snob doesn't mean I don't need help. I went as far as complaining to the manager and she offered me a free gift! I went here with my friends to just walk around and pick up a few things and I decided to pick up the NARS Sheer Glow foundation. I went to a woman and asked if she could color match me and she then started to ask me all these questions about skin care. I answered and kept on reiterating that I wanted the NARS and she sat me down at a counter and walked off. She came back with Bare and Minerals products and Pür products. Then she said that a different man would be helping me. The man took me over to his chair and I asked again about NARS and he said "that stuff doesn't do anything for your skin" and then brought over some other brands. I told him that I don't like thick products on my face and he said "okay" and continued to put on a very thick tinted moisturizer that I know doesn't work with my skin. Also, I told him to not touch my nose since I had just got a new piercing and he ended up covering my nose with it and touched my piercing several times. After everything, I asked about NARS once again and he said "well, NARS isn't cruelty free, so I don't touch it or recommend it to clients" and that was it. I got up and said "thanks" and left. I don't why I keep coming back here. This place has the worst customer service. There was this lady in the salon with dark shorter hair and probably in her 50 following me around! I was shopping for nail polish and she was right behind me going up and down the aisles. Finally I stopped and was glaring at her and she just started straightening shampoo bottles. I often attempt to take advantage of free gifts with purchase. Last week was a MakeUp Revolution deal. But I should know better and should realize I need to ask if the gift is available before I even venture to the check-out. Not surprisingly, the gift was not available despite being day 1 of the promo and despite stickers advertising the promo being everywhere. I purchased the items anyway, then got mad at myself and returned them later. The time before, I went in to try an IT cosmetic foundation on the recommendation of my sister. The employee told me that IT cosmetics is not good makeup and pushed me to a Philosophy foundation and excitedly shared I'd be getting a free gift with purchase. I purchased the foundation only to be told at check out that they were out of the free gift. I ended up hating that foundation and bought an IT cosmetics foundation elsewhere. At this point, I'm considering just skipping Ulta altogether for future purchases. Poor customer service, low stock in stores, and disorganized makeup. read more

I go to this Ulta only because it is close to my home, and they carry a few items that I use regularly and can't get at CVS or Walgreen's. I honestly don't know how they do this, but I have never once been in there when there wasn't a ridiculously long line. It is impossible to run in there quickly to pick something up. Went today and ended up waiting 15 minutes to get rung up while the (manager? assistant manager?) behind the checkout counter LAUGHED about how their registers weren't working. First of all, I blame myself. I've known for a long time that Ulta has less than desirable customer service. I guess I am an optimist. I really want to think they would improve their customer service over the years but sadly they have not. From their cashiers (who are so freakin' slow and why is it there is only one ringing people up), to their less than pleasant makeup artists (unskilled and unknowledgeable about the cosmetics carried at their store compounded with inability to apply makeup). Let me entertain you and share my most recent adventure. As I enter the only Ulta in metro-Phoenix, I'm not greeted, and there's at least 3 sales clerks/wanna-be makeup artists I encounter as I walk thru the store to the back where they carry all the hair products. After picking up my favorite shampoo, I decide to wander into the cosmetics department to see what's new. One of the sales clerks (who ignored me when I entered) slowly comes up to me, notably not really wanting to help me but I guess she felt that she needed to at least "try" to seem like she wanted to sell cosmetics. I play along and ask her about new shadows and blushes and what she recommends. Since Ulta has very competitive brands, she is very politically-correct by informing me they are all wonderful. Whatever. Do you have an opinion? Maybe some follow-up questions like "What are you looking for in a product?" "What products do you currently use?" Like every time before, I leave the cosmetics department empty-handed. I'm not the typical customer that will buy a set because it comes with a little bit of everything. That's borderline hoarding and I don't dig it. Show me a product that works, and I'll buy it. Give me great customer service, and I'll buy a bunch. Simple as that people. I'm a sucker for great customer service and will spend a lot of $$. Ask my spouse. So I make my way to the long line. Long because there's only one cashier who is dealing with a disappointed customer. Am I surprised? No. Am I reconsidering where I buy from the next time? Absolutely. The customers in front and behind me are clearly just as frustrated as I. One lady mentions, "This is why I buy online!" I totally agree. So I finally make it to the cashier who doesn't greet me, just tries to sell me more magazines than I need. I respectfully decline. She rings up my purchases and literally throws them in a small bag. By the time she squishes all my products in the little bag, it's bursting at the seams. I give her my coupon (20% off my entire purchase which is the only reason why I went to Ulta in the first place) and with disdain, she runs it and makes sure she rips it into teeny tiny pieces in front of me. What is she trying to say? You'll never see this coupon again? Whatever, get over yourself. So long story short, Uta sucks. Especially the one at the Esplanade. It's such a shame. Ulta is in the business of selling beauty products and helping its customers look and feel better about themselves, which they clearly do not. I've tried to avoid the Ulta at the Esplanade, but I have to say even the one in Ahwatukee and Chandler are almost as bad. I get better customer service at Walmart. That's how bad Ulta is. I was using Philosophy Purity and ran out. Needed one with a pump because of arthritis. They did not have that so was suggested I try Juice Beauty Green Apple. After using a few times noticed my nose was starting to peel, and face was dryer. Do not recommend this product unless you have oily skin. This was the last time I will set foot in this location ever again. I have been in the Camelback store twice in the last month and have received awful customer service, not to mention they were out of each of the products I was after both times. This is the store closest to my house. Any other Ulta store I have been to seems to have really nice customer service. I don't know what it is about this location. When I arrived at the store it was relatively empty. It was a rainy day and not many shoppers were out. I was accosted the second I walked through the door asking if I needed help. I told her "no thank you" and continued on my way to Urban Decay. When I found the eyeliner I was looking for, only the sample was available. There were no other customers in cosmetics and there was one employee stocking shelves on the back wall, oblivious to someone needing help. I went in search of someone else and found a very sweet woman who worked in Clarisonic. She said she would try and help me. She went to the front desk and asked if there was back stock for the eyeliner. The person there told her to check a drawer on the back wall. Half of the drawers were not labelled. She looked in several but couldn't find any Urban Decay products at all. The one cosmetics employee stocking the shelves asked her what she was looking for but then turned away and offered no help. There was another blonde cosmetics employee wandering around trying to find customers to try out samples on. She did not offer her help either. The original employee who was trying hard to help me, then went back to the front counter to reconfirm which drawer to look in and returned saying her manager told her they were out of the eyeliner. Wow, what service (note sarcasm) and what a copout! This woman apologized and asked if she could call another store. This was a totally appropriate move for her but an incredibly inappropriate one for the manager. I declined and thanked her for trying and then went to pay for the other item I was purchasing. When I got to the register, the manager asked if I had found everything. I told her "no" that I was the one needing the eyeliner but that no one seemed to care about helping the other employee find the right drawer. There was complete silence from her as she continue to ring my sale. I then expressed my frustration about no one seeming to care. She then told me there was no one to watch the front of the store, that she couldn't go back and check. She should have called out to one of her actual cosmetics employees who were both busy looking busy and not helping customers. I rarely write reviews and only when they are positive. I couldn't let this one go. This isn't a first occurrence in this store. It has happened time and time again over many years. I'm done shopping here. I will use my Amazon Prime from now on so I don't have to be ignored or given sub standard service from a bunch of women who only care about looking pretty and getting a paycheck. This is probably the worst Ulta when it comes to customer service. I am not a needy customer and more often than not I prefer to be left alone to do my shopping. However, I do appreciate being acknowledged and I am even more a fan of having my questions answered in the event that I do need some assistance. This is not the case at this location. The salesgirls seem unfriendly and completely uninterested in helping/recommending/selling. I honestly wonder if being as unhelpful as possible is part of their job description. Love this location! The employees listen, are great with their knowledge and are more than helpful in getting in what you need. I had a reward points thing and I kept going back to the same lady three times in one visit. She was very nice and helped me find what I was looking for. read more

I love Ulta for my hair products. I hate Ulta for suckering me in to buying too much stuff !

O.K. So my first experience with Ulta was ok. I went in with a coupon that I got in their weeky mailing for a discount on their hair service. I got some accent highlight on my long, brunette hair for the holidays. I asked for small shimmery highlights and got what I asked for. Happy. Price was good, job was done right. Next visit was for root retouch to keep the highlights for another season, this time was different. I got a different person, because my previous girl had quit. The lady was friendly and had a touching story, but her highlights were heavier than I'd asked for, and now they're sort of ghetto looking, to the point where I dont want to flat iron my wavy hair in fright that they are going to look like streamers hanging from the top of my head. Ugh. Im going to wear them as best as I can for now and then cover them up with dark color, done at a different salon for sure, then take another 5 years to regrow my hair sans any artificial hair color. Also I was quoted $120 and walked out pissed that I dished out $170 for some linguini highlights when I asked for angel hair or thinner accents. One plus...I took my younger 14 year old sister with me, and I figured she should take her DS or a book to entertain herself while I was being done up. They had an Exuviance brand facial session that was free so I signer her up against her will, the poor soul, but she ended up spending the two hours with the ladies, and walked out with a series of freebies and about $65 in product purchases, and a glowy face! She was a happy camper and that helped me deal with the frustration of overpaying for my services. I suppose I recommend this for someone who is visiting to purchase hair products, just not services. read more
