I have been coming to this Ulta for about a year now for weekly hair blowouts. All of the hair stylists are friendly, detail oriented, and accommodating. I especially love the work of Van, who I usually book with. She recently did my haircut as well and did a wonderful job. My hair is very thick and curly, but Van knows how to handle it like a pro. I always feel rejuvenated after my appointments at this Ulta Salon and have formed great connections with the hair stylists. This Ulta location is great! They're always well stocked and I've almost never had issues finding items here. The staff can be hit or miss, sometimes they're really friendly and other times I've had staff dang near scoff at me when I've asked for help. I will say however, that the store itself is clean and the displays always look put together. I usually don't leave reviews, but this experience at Ulta was frustrating. I specifically asked for a certain item, and the employee gave me the wrong product without showing or confirming it with me. I didn't realize until I got home. When I came back to exchange it, I was told I had to pay a $3 difference because I had used points the day before -- even though the mistake was made by the store, not me. After explaining that I shouldn't have to pay for their error, they finally fixed it, but the exchange process took around 30 minutes. Mistakes happen, but getting the wrong item, being asked to pay extra for the store's mistake, and then spending 30 minutes fixing it made this a very disappointing experience. I expect better customer service and accuracy from this location. read more

I stopped by the Ulta Beauty in Rancho Bernardo recently and left pretty disappointed. The layout felt crowded and didn't flow well, it just wasn't cohesive or easy to shop. Hannah is very professional, easy to talk to, listens to what I want and also gives her professional advice. I had no idea what was wrong with my hair. Hannah was extremely kind and helpful when I came in with a treatment on and a hat over it. It turns out it was hard water buildup- causing tangles, matting, and hair stuck to my head in all the residue. It took a long time to figure out. Obviously very upsetting but Hannah made me feel a million times better with a great treatment, shampoo and blow dry and product recommendations. I asked this girl for a TRIM and even showed with my fingers how much I wanted cut off ( for reference I love having long hair but I had dead ends so I needed a SMALL TRIM. ) She starts with washing my hair which was fine but then we get to where she cuts my hair. I paid no mind and start to notice something looks off. I see a side piece of my hair and it looks short. I thought maybe it was just that piece till I saw the other. I go to this Ulta specifically for Alex at the Salon (I live 30 min away), so it's safe to say I'm officially obsessed with her. Not only does she do amazing work, but she is such a genuine and kind soul. You can tell she loves what she does, and takes pride in doing a fantastic job every single time. I have genuinely never left her chair unhappy. My natural hair is dark brown, so of course, I want to be a cool blonde (iykyk). I typically get a partial or full set of highlights, and Alex knocks it out of the park every single time. My hair is very important to me, so it's not an exaggeration to say I trust Alex with my life. She's done more for my mental health than the past 4 years of therapy. Also, for my girlies with social anxiety, she's the one to go to. If you don't feel like talking, she doesn't force the conversation. Though the worst of the damage showed weeks later (as is typical with chemical over-processing), Ulta refused to offer any help, citing a 10-day complaint policy. Her highlighting skills are so advanced she genuinely has me considering going blonde, which I've never ever considered. They were that even and pristine! This is more of a rant than a review. They never carry what I need when it says it's available on their website. What a waste of time coming here. Yay I'm glad it's close to home and they have plenty of parking and I can avoid the chaotic malls, but when they hardly carry the items I need it's pretty much pointless. Customer service: The lady that helped me didn't seems to really put any effort to assist. I also feel that they only approach specific clients they feel will spend money. I guess I look like a high schooler that I'm not deserving of any assistance. This is not only one occasion, but multiple times. Overall, customer service is lacking and the products that I need are either always out or have been discontinued. I ended up purchasing what I needed online instead. I went during the week and there was maybe 3 other customers in the store and good amount of staff members. Not once did anyone approach me to ask me if I had any questions. Main reason I went to the store was for one of their beauty steal products. Found it, added it to my basket and continued shopping. Once I was done, I went to the register to checkout. The cashier didn't say much other than ask for my phone number for member rewards. Again, the customer service department is nonexistent. I came home and reviewed my receipt only to realize that the beauty steal had rung up full prize. I called the store to make them aware of the error and a guy answered and said to bring it back to the store with the receipt and they'll consider providing me a price adjustment . I usually walk into Ulta Beauty very overwhelmed by 1.all of the products and 2. the staff. Although I actually had a very positive and uplifting experience at this store. I was helped by a woman named Ronda. She was the sweetest and most genuine woman and was so helpful. It was great because the staff seemed very attentive and focused in Ulta. Had a terrible experience in this store and I have loved Ulta in the past. Went in to get one of their beauty steals and was told they would not honor the online price. I asked if I could purchase them online to pick up in store and just pick them up right then since they had the product in store. They said no I would wait one hour and come back. The store was empty I asked for the manager to see if they could just make an exception. So then she says you can ship it to your house for free? Why would I want to buy in the store and ship it to my house when I'm standing in the store what a waste? Then she asked me to have them order it for me so they could get the store credit and I told her no way I'm ordering it online having it shipped directly to my house.
