Ulta's corporate office isn't supporting this retail location as they should: They didn't have samples of two of the four Prada colognes or they didn't have authorization to open a bottle to use as a sample. Second, the salesperson didn't know the difference between the men's Prada eau de toilette and the Prada eau de parfum. They're not just different levels of alcohol but different fragrances entirely. I blame the manufacturer for this dopey difference. In any case, we got the wrong one. I asked if they had Chanel lipstick in Terre D'Etoiles. Nope, don't carry Chanel here but at another Ulta store 10 miles away. Huh? I usually have a decent shopping experience at Ulta but in this case, not so much. read more

Shopping at Ulta doesn't even make me happy anymore because I'm usually ignored or followed, but this one left me baffled. My friend and I got to the counter where Kimeel checked us out, I realized one of the items i was going to purchase was used so I asked if I could go get a different one, to which she said yes, later on when I looked at my receipt I saw that she charged me for both of them. I said "Oh it looks like you charged me for two of them but i only took the one that wasn't used". She looked me dead in my face and said "No i didn't." I was caught off guard because she didn't even look at the receipt, she just told me no. So i handed her the receipt to which she said "well it looks like I'm doing a return, I'm so mad that it did that". Didn't appreciate her response nor did she say sorry but it's fine.. moving on. She had also asked my friend if she was my mom and said "omg wait you're not her mom are you?" She also made a comment about my eyebrows and how she can tell i just got them done but i should have gotten them done at ulta. Well.. My t-zone is always red so no i hadn't gotten them done... i can see she may have meant it as a compliment but i was extremely embarrassed that she pointed this out. Overall i think there were just a lot of things that she said that i didn't feel comfortable with nor did i think it was good customer service. Went here specifically because I had a old gift card to use that had funds but wasn't working. No one at this store including the manager could figure out why my gift card wouldn't work even though there were funds on it. I even asked "oh does it need to be activated or something?" They said no. I ended up being forced to use my own money or walk away without the products I came for. I was told to call the number on the back of the gift card. I called the number and was told the card needed to be activated but they couldn't help me with that. So basically Ulta sells gift cards to customers that don't work and no one in the company knows how to activate them or use them for purchases. Seems like a scam to steal money from customers IMO. I was told I'd get a call back or email I haven't received either in over a week now. read more

This location has very poor customer service. The moment you walk in, the employees just glare at you while carrying on their own side conversations. The only greeting you get is from the cashier. I came in for a foundation color match and asked an associate for help; she immediately looked around and tried to get someone else to assist me. When no one else could, she helped me- but it was obvious she didn't want to. I've worked in customer service before, and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. I won't be returning to this location and would rather go to Sephora, where customers are treated kindly. I made an appointment online for a Brow Lamination and scheduled it according to the timeslots they have "opened", I received a call a few days later asking me to change the time, before I even had time to call them back to reschedule, they just cancelled/ deleted my appointment without notifying me. I came here with my mom because I needed some Olaplex conditioner and I had bought it from another Ulta before. I was pleased to find they had a couple of different sizes and the smallest one was cheaper than I had remembered. The line was a little long, this was just before Thanksgiving, but it moved quickly enough and my mom and I got to poke fun at some of the extreme beauty products that would look very silly if we were to try donning them. The staff at the front counter were friendly and upbeat. I'm glad for the option of no receipt, no print out or paper waste. I'd come here again if I need a particular product I know they carry. read more

I had a very unfortunate experience. It began with the representative at the register. I presented my physical Ulta credit card and a digital in-store coupon offered on my online Ulta account. I have done this many times in the past to obtain a discount on my purchase. During the transaction I was told by the rep that I had to verify the last 4 of my social, my birthdate, my zip code and present my drivers license in order to apply the discount to my purchase and use my in-store card. Something I have never had to do prior. I inquired why I had to give such personal information to complete a purchase with my own store credit card. The response was met with "it's store policy". If I refused I would not be able to complete the transaction with my Ulta credit card. However, if it was a different card I would be allowed to complete the transaction without the invasive personal questions regarding my ssn, dob, zip code, and present my ID. I have never had to give so much personal information just to make a purchase with a store credit card. Since it was communicated to me that, that was store policy, I called the customer service line. I wanted to inquire why they were forcing their customers to risk their identity at every transaction. The call service rep verified that I indeed did not have to give all that information to the cashier to complete my purchase since I had the physical Ulta card with me, and stated it was a mistake that the in-store rep made. To that note, I completely understand the need to verify someone's identity when it comes to a bank transaction, filing taxes, or going to the doctors. However, demanding four different types of verification to make a purchase with a store credit card, but not requiring that for non-store credit cards does nothing but put my identity at risk of being stolen. There is an obscene amount of identity fraud happening within the United States. Your representatives are practicing a "store policy" that was verified by your call center as not being a policy at all. By practicing this "policy" it brings to light many other questions: do the representatives at Ulta have a contract to protect private information of their patrons? Are you held legally responsible for protecting the ssn's, dob's, addresses, and ID numbers? Am I required to give you my ssn, dob, zip code, and ID for every purchase I make with you? How am I to trust that a wondering eye isn't reviewing my personal information or that a representative won't discuss such details with others? Ulta has been a pleasure to do business with; however, your store cannot ensure the protection or security of my personal information. Therefore, I recommend the company but specifically the one on Santa Rosa Ave since they do not require invasive verification procedures to complete purchases with an in-store credit card. read more

Never ever go there. I went in and was going to buy a Madison Reed one color kit. I asked someone in the salon area if this was the correct color range. The woman said it was too dark. She explained all I needed was some highlights to mask some grey and to brighten my blond hair. She told me of a stylish that would be perfect. She said she was the educator for all the local Ulta salons and that this stylist was great and in demand. . I was impulsive and booked an appointment with her because my regular salon did not have an appointment. I went2 days later and the stylist was very young..not that it matters..sometimes. I showed her a picture of how blond I wanted my brightest highlight to be. I asked for high and low lights. She used toner as a highlight. It looked very dark. I walked out with purple blotchy hair. I asked for a refund and the manager said I needed to come in. Another stylist there agreed that it was purple and said she could fix it..my mistake. Again, she left almost a black toner on my scalp and roots. I kept saying it looked sooo dark. She said it stops toning after 10 mins. She proceeded to put some blond highlights in to cover the purple. It took 3 hours. I kept saying I had to go. The toner turned all of my roots black, my scalp black, and large patches of hair fell out. My real hairdresser saw it and cried. I have now spent an additional 10 hours trying to get the black out and tons of money. Ulta still needs me to come on for a partial refund. Talking to lawyers...Do not go there for any color! read more

My first time using the salon services. I booked an appointment for cut and color in the Coddingtown location. I was excited to just spruce my hair up a bit. My natural color is a bit blah, but I also have some gray sprinkled in. The gray is a nice highlight and I stated to the stylist that I wished there was more. Now, I don't do much with my hair, the picture I showed her was from about 7 years ago. Needless to say, I don't believe she looked at the picture or even listened to my desires, some high & low lights to give my hair some dimension. My appointment was set and I received a call/message a couple hours prior, asking me to come in sooner. I thought she must of had a cancellation and being excited about it, I took off work earlier. When I arrived, I found out she was trying to leave early for personal reasons. The end result was my hair being bleached to a horrible Orange color, it is awful!!! I look like a clown! I have reached out to the company, I certainly don't want this to happen to someone else. I have received little to no response to my messages. I have always thought there is nothing worse then a bad hair cut, but there is, add really bad hair color, plus my hair feels like straw! Worst experience ever, $160 of my hard earned money, plus 3 hours of lost wages to look like a joke. No, I don't want her to fix it, my money back would have been nice. I, nor anyone who has seen my hair will ever step foot in this store much less the salon. The stylist parting words were "well you don't have gray anymore!" I wasn't trying to get rid of it!!! i have been going to ulta for hair services for a long time and i have been pleased every time with my end result, however this last time i went to the SR location and was appalled not only on how i was treated but how crappy the service was and end result , i did not say anything right then and there , 1. there was so many people and 2 because i assumed the stylist had notice how much product she put in my hair and stained my neck, ears front of forehead and back of neck , i mean it was a dark purple and i have fair skin tone so it was obvious and i had pointed it out to her a few times during the session, especially after she didn't put any product in the main gray area . she said oh , sorry about that and smudged the product into my scalp. On top of this mess she left my hair damp didn't fully dry it , i did not tip as i was not satisfied with the end result, what i paid for was an overpayment for what i received. i could have done a cleaner job at home!! i called the next morning and asked for a manager to no avail , after second attempt i did speak to a manger and she kindly advised that i need to physically be there to receive a credit ,i unfortunate became really really sick and could not make it in just right away but i did keep in touch and let the manager know that i would be in as soon as i got better, well i did get better and when i finally was able to go in , i called ahead of time and the manager no long was avail , she was either in a meeting or only came in on certain days, hours etc. its been 2 months since and i have yet to meet with a manager and basically at this point i will NEVER go back to ulta and have disassociated myself 100% from this unprofessionalism of service!! read more

Warning for anyone that wants to shop at Ulta Beauty- Coddingtown, while being a person of color, they actively have their employees follow you around their store soley based on your skin color. I wonder if they would follow Oprah around as well soley because she's black? Ulta Beauty has also been sued for discrimination and under investigation for employee discrimination. I love a clean, organized, and well lit store! I attended the Grand Opening of the newly opened Ulta Beauty at Coddingtown Mall. I am so happy to have one on this side of town and close to where I live. But that might not be good for my pocketbook lol. I really do hope that this store will maintain the organization and cleanliness as I've been to other Ulta's that end up looking dirty and not well stocked or organized. Went in with daughter to purchase a few items and we ended up both getting our hair deep conditioned. What a fabulous service. Kind, gentle no pressure and our hair came out fabulous. We both have fine thick very curly wavy hair. So it was quite a treat to have it washed, conditioned with heat , pampered and gently blowed out keeping our beautiful curls in tact... also they were super helpful with product selection too. I agree with one reviewer that the front end peeps try way to hard..but we very much enjoyed the salon. Will return for other services too. Btw the pricing is good too. read more

I went in for concealer, on a Monday night at 8pm. There were three other customers in the store, 3 employee and a security guard. I wasn't acknowledged, which wasn't a huge deal. I found what I was looking for, but I was having trouble matching a color, so I went to the counter and asked for help- she said someone could help me in five minutes, which was completely fine, I would look around. Well, no one came to help me, so I went to the counter, where two employees were behind the counter and just purchased the concealer and asked about the return policy; which is great, so if it doesn't work, I will exchange it. The store was super clean and well stocked, but the customer service was poor. I will not go out of my way to shop here, I will go to the other location. I've worked in customer service and retail, I get it- at the end of the day, you're trying to clean up and close, but when you out number the customers In the store, there isn't an excuse. read more

My first experience at this store was not a great one and decided that it might have just been a fluke with the employee I dealt with so I went in again yesterday. I had the same experience with the customer service with no real help from any of the reps there. A bit of attitude.... And then when I paid for my items, the cashier was adamant that I needed to give them my email address and that I wouldn't get a receipt at all unless I gave them my email address. I told them no and what a complete liar she was. As soon as I went through the checkout process, the register prompted me if I wanted a paper receipt. She was really rude that I didn't want to give my email address. Wondering if they get a commission on getting email addresses and how Ulta uses this information for their gain. I lost my phone in the store while shopping so approached Sidney to inform her about it. She was so nice and proactively reached out to the manager to help me out. She came back to me and said that the manager is just in a meeting but she will inform her soon as they are don. After 5 minutes, the manager, Rachel, talked to me and checked the security cameras immediately. Unfortunately, I had to go because I have to finish some errands so I had to leave and the other manager, Luna, told me to call in a couple of hours to check and she assured me that she will keep it in their lost and found in case they find it. When I called, Amy answered the phone and she told me they have not found the phone yet but it's okay because I was able to deactivate it right after I found out that I lost it. Even if my phone was not found, I really appreciate the proactiveness and sincerity of their staff to help me out even if I have not purchased anything yet. I highly recommend this store! Slow service and bad service. I wanted to purchase a item that had a sale tag for buy 2 get 1 free. I took it to the register and what do you know, it WASNT on sale. I walked her over to see the item, and the tag was right where the product was. I ask for them to honor the price .. and the dumb girl wouldn't. If you don't like to be harassed by employees, don't come here. I had been in the store for 250 seconds at the most and had already been approached by 3 employees asking me "if I needed help finding anything"...yes, I get it, y'all want to profile me as a shoplifter or whatever, but do you really have to be so excessive about it? I have mad social anxiety when shopping and not one, not two, but THREE employees harassed me after I had only been at the store for a few minutes and it threw me into a panic attack. (I used to work retail so I know for a fact that employees never ask you that because they give a damn about helping you find anything). I came here to pick up some kind of face moisturizer for my sister who is currently being hospitalized in Santa Rosa and all I wanted to do was to compare a few different products and decide on my own terms which moisturizer to get. Unfortunately I wasn't even able to do that because of the awful aggressive employees. The first one was a woman with red hair, the second one had black hair, glasses, and tattoos, and the third employee was a shorter lady. I'm not sure who is in charge at the store, but PLEASE tell them be mindful of their excessive pestering of shoppers because many of us have a very negative psychological reaction to this type of thing. read more

I went in to return an item and purchase few other things. The cashier was kind and started the transaction. But couldn't figure out the return as it was online order. Anyway the store manager was called for help and she was extremely rude! I had purchased two ulta tools last week that were on sale buy two get two free. I purchased two at the petaluma location and was asked to bring back the receipt to any ulta store to get my other two tool as the Petaluma location had only two left at the time of the purchase. This location manager, Mona, did not believe me. I even showed her the receipt that stated the Petaluma location didn't have the tool at the time of the purchase. The manager called to Petaluma location to confirm but that store manager denied even though I had proof of my recpit with a written note on it that the manager agreed to this. Anyway very poor customer service by this location manager. She could've handled the situation a lot better instead of being rude. She did not believe as the sale no longer existed. Ulta associate shouldn't promise their customer the deals they have if they can't fulfill them. read more

Although the staff would have no way to know I was a manager in retail for many years and would've been mortified to hear any of my staff speak to anyone the way they did. Honestly extremely upset. I called for a same day appointment and they luckily had the time for a color correction. Went into detail with the stylist about the level of correction needed and worked out a time. Showed up to my appointment a little early as I have to drive an hour and a half to be able to get here and they inform me my appointment is canceled. First the stylist said for some reason they double booked her with a makeup appointment and she isn't sure why and asks if I can come tomorrow, I let her know I can't because of the distance show she lets me know to wait. She comes back and says they tried to call me and that they were trying to cancel multiple times, when I never received a call and my number is in the system from previous times. She then says a consultation for today to book tomorrow which I have already made clear I can't do. So not only was I lied to, but had to hold back tears as today is my birthday and I just wasted half my day getting here. On top of the fact the stylist said she was off in a hour so she wouldn't have been able to do it anyways when she was the original one I spoke with- so many excuses and no accountability. This review is for the salon at Ulta. I booked a signature haircut with Keane and it was such a wonderful experience! This was the first time I was at this salon. I ended up getting a haircut to trim off my split ends and added layers. Keane did an amazing job and by the time I was done, my hair was healthy looking, flowing, and had a lot of body due to the layers. It looked a million times better and was a fresh look that I was hoping for! I felt that the prices of salon services were very reasonable and I could not be happier. Keane was very friendly and very experienced! Everyone that I encountered working in the salon was friendly as well. He did an excellent job and I was very happy with the whole experience! I know that due to the fact that I have a lot of hair, it can take a while to blow dry. I ended up giving him a good tip because I felt that he really went above and beyond and I really appreciated it. He also ended up thining out some hair underneath per my request to cut down on my time straightening my hair. I had a wonderful experience and could not be more happy with my new duo. I will definitely be back and highly recommend this place to others! read more

Really having a hard time deciding on how to rate Ulta since It's a beautiful new store and until yesterday had experienced superb customer service. This review is based on my salon experience only. I decided to swing in for a bang trim Saturday morning. It was $10 and easy to book online so I decided YOLO and went for it. I should have known right away to run. The man cutting my hair was immediately unfriendly and before he even put the smock on me kept looking at his phone. I tried making small talk but he was so busy with his phone and even exclaimed "damnit" after putting it away. Obviously, I was a little concerned but told him I had a picture of what I wanted (very basic style) again, he said nothing, and after gathering his supplies said, "ok, let's see this pic." He looked at it for a couple of seconds and just started cutting. Half way through he asked if I liked it and I told him no, it was way too rounded around my face and I liked it more blunt. He just stared at me blankly, and then started cutting more. I was too shocked to have him stop. When he finished and asked how I liked it, my answer was, "ok, well I guess I can make this work." And he then lectured me about confidence. Shook does not even begin to express this experience. I got in my car and cried while trying to find another stylist that could fit me in to fix my fringe. I had a last minute hair appointment for a full color with Keane (sorry if it's spelled incorrectly) he went above and beyond my expectations, he understood that I had awful experiences before, and he asked all the right questions to get my hair the color and cut I wanted, he was so sweet, and very talkative not one dull moment the whole experience. At the end of my appointment my hair didn't look like an old lady blow out, but beautiful big curls and my bangs looked amazing! Can't wait for my follow up appointment! read more
