The person who greeted us , I believe she may have been the manager ? She appeared to be Indian with jet black hair and was wearing all black. It was so obvious that she was profiling my husband and I, and was only following the black people around and asking them profusely if they need help. I go to Ulta often and never experienced that, the cashiers are always nice but management needs to be less obvious when they're profiling people due to the color of their skin. If I could give zero stars I would. I had an appointment today to get my hair done so I'm in the salon. I'm greeted by the workers and everything and I wait for my appointment time which was 12 PM. It was a little after my appointment time so I checked my confirmation text just to make sure I wasn't super early and I wasn't but my appointment was pushed back to 12:15 and I did not get a call or a text. I did not mind waiting the extra 15 minutes, but when I waited an extra 20 minutes then to find out through my appointment dashboard that my appointment was moved back to 2:30 I was very upset. I have been going to this Ulta since 2020 and it has just declined with customer service. I wouldn't be so mad about the situation if I would've gotten a call or a text asking if it was okay to move my appointment time back. I make appointments for a reason. I don't mind if they are pushed back 15 to 30 minutes but when they are pushed 2.5 hours later, I'm not gonna sit there and wait because I have other stuff to do. It's okay, but I prefer Macys. For women this might be where it's at, so please take my opinion with a small grain of salt. As a nutty creature, I'm not worrying about my beauty routine. As far as I go, soap washes everything, and I do like colognes. They bring a level of playfulness or maturity, depending on the occasion. The selection of colognes is limited. Also they seem to, not have the stock of Macys as well. For what it's worth, I have found good customer service here. Some Ulta's feel like they are as warm as a cold fish. This one's the opposite on that. The employees are helpful and friendly. Springfield Mall being so close, along with the Mixing Bowl, logistically it can be a cluster. Hello this is a problem for Ulta shoppers. I ask my friends and they also scared to shop at ulta because we are not white so they think we shoplifting. I not shoplifting. I like to walk around looking while my husband grocery shop. The lady I don't know her name but they said she is a manager walk past me, I say excuse me and she put her hands up to let me walk by without saying hello. I was nervous so I call my husband to say they don't want me here. Then I was in the isle near charloted tilbury and I see the same lady leaned over near the mirror watching me with her arms crossed very angry at me. My husband say to leave cause they could call police if I'm not going to buy anything so I go outside. At Sephora they don't mind me walking around a lot of times. If I could leave a -5 star review for this place I would. I have NEVER felt so threatened by an employee at any establishment before as I did at this Ulta location today. I walked in to purchase some products and as a diamond member I'm easily spending $400+ here regularly. As I'm browsing, I thought I'd ask for a shampoo blow dry while I was in the store. First off I walk back to the salon where no one acknowledged me and they don't have a reception desk anymore so I asked one of the employees on the floor and she was able to walk me to the salon and said Chelsi would be able to help me. Well, Chelsi was in her coat still as just looked at me and I said hello to her, asked if she was Chelsi which she replied "yes" and that's where the interaction began. Very unwelcoming and she seemed very bothered that I was there. I ignored it and we continued. I explained to her that I am looking for a shampoo blow dry which she asked "do you want a round brush?" I said "I mean, I don't know what that means, I'm here for a regular shampoo and a blow dry" ... I have never been asked that question before at any of the salons I've been too and as an ex hairstylist myself I've never asked anyone that question. It's a given when someone asks for a shampoo blow dry we blow dry their hair with products and tools and make it look nice and blown out. After the shampoo, Chelsi walked me back to the chair, started to blow dry my hair and in less then 5 min she stated that she was done. I froze for a moment shocked at how frizzy my hair looked and I asked "that's it?" In which she replied yes and I asked her if she was going to style it and smooth it out. She said "that's what you asked for a shampoo and just the blow dry. If you want me to use the round brush it will cost you an additional $21" I asked her how much what she just did cost which she was not familiar so she went to find a manager. Then she got the booklet and I looked in there and it clearly stated in their description that a blow out was shampoo and blow dry with a round brush. Then the manager comes over and tells me that "you didn't tell her you wanted a blow out, you said a shampoo and blow dry and we don't have that service." Which clearly again it states in their pamphlet that they have a shampoo blowout which is the same thing which again she argued with me that "no, I have to say a shampoo blowout because what I asked for is actually a cleanse treatment" so I asked her if she could show me where that is, she does and right there in front of her I showed her where it says the cleanse treatment is an hour long process and what I just went through didn't even take 10 min. She said "yeah so she'll do a blowout" perfect. That's what we need. Well, the manager walks away, Chelsi comes back and hands me a notepad and asks for my information and at that point I explained to her that I'm really confused what's happening and she widens her eyes, throws her hands up and says "you know what, I'm just going to get started on doing what you want" and she said it with such attitude, at this point I'm beyond confused what's happening and asked if I could speak to the manager again. She quadrupled her eyes, tilted her head and looked at me. At that point I was like absolutely not, I took off the cape and towel from around my neck and asked to see the manager and explained that the attitude is truly unnecessary. She doubled her eyes again as if she was ready to start fighting and she walked away saying things and I said honestly; the attitude isn't necessary. She started screaming that she doesn't have an attitude, she starts laughing and walks towards her manager and 2 other employees and starts saying things so I walk over to them and start having a conversation with the manager Candace. I'm in a go in and get what I need and then look by myself type of girl so I already don't really like people coming up to me asking if I need help. Luckily for me this store no one will come up to you, let alone say hello when you walk in the door. Isn't even my biggest issue with this place, I go in and I happen to pass by the clearance rack. I notice a Rabanne Fame Perfume which usually go for $134 for the 1.7 oz. I've brought one before. I'm like oh great a good deal, I pick it up and look at the yellow sticker $134.45. Now I'm thinking in my head what the hell maybe it's wrong but the more I look at the price oh no it's right. So I go on the website, Ulta.com and look up the item $134 plus shipping. I find this crazy so I put it back, when I go to check out, I asked the woman checking me out how they decide to price the items on clearance, she didn't really give me an answer and kinda just brushed it off. When I informed her that it was cheaper online than it was on the clearance rack she said oh well, we can price match it to our website. I said so your idea of clearance is taking 45 cents off? I couldn't believe it. I could get the brand new product online for cheaper than I could get it in store on the clearance rack. And could get it even cheaper, not ordering directly from the Ulta website. I still never got a definite answer on how they marked down clearance whether it's a store thing or a company thing, but they are crazy. Everyone is rude, they stand in groups talking, and don't bother asking if you need assistance no matter how long you're standing and looking. What started out as a frustrating experience (not the faultof the store), turned into a great customer interaction. I ordered on-line for pick-up like I have done dozens of times in the past. For some reason, when I went to pick it up, my order had been sent to Springfield, MO. I use the pick-up option because I have some health issues that cause a lot of leg and back pain but I do like to get out of the house. So it's easy to just pick up and get a little fresh air. As soon as a couple members of the staff figured out the error, one staff member jumped into action. She sat me down at the make-up station, called the Missouri store and cancelled the order and then walked around the store and picked up my order and took it up front. She made sure I got all my Ulta point credits and my additional coupon. I was truly in tears by her kindness and willingness to go the extra mile. It wasn't busy and the staff up front were chatty and having a good time but never once did they neglect the customers. I'm surprised at the low rating. I have always had a great experience there and this one was above and beyond. I wish I'd gotten the name of the woman who helped me. It was around noon on Sunday, August 17th. Virginia was the rudest person I have ever encountered at an Ulta beauty store. Lisa, the manager was no better. She thought it was too inconvenient for her to come out and speak with me and hear my concerns. I'm not sure I'm ever going to shop at Ulta again, but certainly not the Springfield location! It's been 2 months since the remodel. They still do not have doors on handicap stalls for the restroom. This has been escalated to on site management as well as corporate. No one cares. I have started my gender transition and am trying to figure out the world of makeup. Ulta does a lot of marketing that they are open to all, but that was not my experience knowing the Springfield store. After 25 mins and two sales associates saying "they'd be right back". I left receiving no assistance. Many other customers received full assistance as I waited and saw the same associates switch customers. When i walked in, no one greeted me but there were several associates behind the counter talking. I came to make a return so i stood near the cash wrap waiting patiently. No one was busy, just talking while i stood to the side. When i was finally acknowledged and told the cashier that i was making a return she made a face along side of tossing my receipt to me, instead of handing it to me. I love this Ulta. It's big and spacious with a ton of staff available to help you locate an item. I came in for a hair color conditioner. I approached an employee who was so helpful, she helped me locate the item and also pointed me to where their Benefit Brow Bar is. My item was unfortunately out of stock so I went ahead and got my eyebrows done. You can make an appointment online but Rhitanny, the brow arch expert, had no problem squeezing me in. I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for years so was hesitant to try wax for the first time. Rhitanny made me so comfortable! She mapped my eyebrows and gave me a clean wax. She finished my appointment out with aloe Vera gel to cool the redness. I'm very picky with who does my brows and I'm amazed by her service. read more

I had a hair appointment with Mina B today who is supposed to be a master stylist. I told her I just wanted a 1/2 inch trim and showed her a picture of the style. She proceeded to cut my bangs without asking (I was growing them out) then cut WAY more than half an inch off, it was closer to 2-3 inches. When I tried to stop her she didn't even respond and continued cutting. When I told her I was not happy about her cutting the bangs, she denied doing it! Never apologized for cutting more than I asked for; just continued to justify it. Told me "don't worry your hair is still long." It's my hair, please don't cut more than I asked for. If she had simply at one time apologized or tried to make it right I wouldn't mind. But having to continue to tell her what I asked for/didn't ask for when paying for a service is not acceptable. I am giving it two stars because she was kind generally, and also it's not like it's an ugly haircut; but just please listen when your customer tells you to stop cutting the hair! read more

Springfield Salon review: Upset. Went in for my appointment (my hair was not washed and "detangled" yet. However, ridiculous that you have to do all of this PRIOR to going to get your hair done. I say this because it's not as if I had matted dread and was breaking combs in this piece. Nevertheless, I saw Destiny, and she was cool... or so I thought. Long story short, she couldn't style my hair... like literally could not find a product to get my hair to curl. Now normally I would have lost my shit. (Day before Thanksgiving) but I thought "ehh, I love MY twist outs anyways no biggie." Also, I was like it's only $60 I really need my hair washed, I broke my toe so legitimately couldn't stand to do it. Again though, I want to be clear I appreciated the wash, the issue is... although she couldn't style my hair (which I still wasn't mad about, she charged me $15 for a detangling fee. Lolololol, not me thinking she was taking $15 off for not being able to style me... but up charging me! LOL Yeah, I said never again... also at no point during my appointment was that mentioned until the end when I walked out of my APPT. With a damp bun to go home and finish my hair. Not to mention I am a black woman, that was getting my hair done BY a black woman, our hair doesn't just comb out easily, combs do not just glide through... be for real. I've managed my hormonal acne fairly well now for several years, until I was recently strong-armed into purchasing an overpriced Juice Beauty package by one of the associates working the floor. That was the second time in a two month period that the SAME employee, who works for a different brand entirely (her words not mine) approached me about this brand, so I figured I'd give it a go--especially after she said how bad the current products I was using were, which thinking back on it now, was pretty rude. Now, I'm wishing I'd politely declined and purchased the Origins products I originally came for instead of being talked into buying a toner and nighttime moisturizer that have left my skin inflamed, raw, and covered in blemishes/pimples that were NOT there until I started using these products 2 weeks ago. Now I realize someone can't be held accountable for another person's adverse reactions to a specific product, for all I know it could work great for others, but I wanted to leave this review because I felt like her sales tactics were not only pushy and overbearing, but also misleading. She touted that this product contained no smell, and was therefore great on sensitive skin, which was later recited nearly word for word by the cashier who checked me out--as if it'd been rehearsed as a group. This turned out to be not true at all, as this product has a very strong citrus smell and burns your skin once applied. Makes me think that employees were somehow incentivized/commissioned to sell this specific product, even if it's not the best fit for every Ulta shopper. For that reason I'm leaving a negative review because I feel like I was talked into buying a crappy item so they could make some type of quota. read more

This is a review for the Salon services. Sara did my cut, and it's one of the worst haircuts I've ever had. I can't believe her cuts are $70. I could've saved myself $50 and went to Hair Cuttery. They might have even given me a nicer cut. The cut is very clearly done carelessly and without skill. When she went to cut the layers in my hair, she pulled all the hair to the front, covering my face, and then just snipped it from there? I'm not a hairdresser but the whole thing just seemed careless. I have found the customer service for Lancôme to be excellent and have purchased more there than I usually purchase at Lancôme at Nordstrom. Some of the stock levels for other lines like CLARINS has been hit or miss. I have always had friendly exchanges with the customer service people at the check out so no complaints there. I came here to return 3 items, 2 $8 Color pop Liquid Blushes and a $21 hair mousse.I get my hair done every 5weeks (at another location) I never return items unless I absolutely do not like them. These blushes were so oily I found myself reapplying constantly just to keep the color. I had them for two weeks. I finally returned them and was informed by Luna that my return would only be accepted just this once because there was not "80%" of the product in the container. Mind you, I don't know how this young lady could eye ball and tell there wasn't 80% there was at least 50% of it in there. I explained it was so oily and I had to use more just to get a decent pigmentation. She continued to babble on about how I would not be able to return something in the future. I asked her where on the RECEIPT it said it had to have 80% she could not show me (because it doesn't state that on the receipt) I go into Ulta because I love makeup and this young lady harassing me over $8 blush when I spend THOUSANDS yearly isn't professional. I am well aware of the return policy. Please train your staff to not harass us shoppers who simply did not like a product and want to return it. Also I wasn't even asking for my money back I wanted a store credit to shop. That evening I ended up spending $282 but my whole interaction with Luna was very upsetting. I used to run back to Sephora often, but refuse to do that, because "my playa days are over (well, maybe not completely)". While I might keep in touch with my other "friends", this is only because I have varied needs (such as Super Orgasm), and they help me meet them. And while you are not as large as I prefer, your incentives ensure that we meet again and again, for multiple rounds, and you like to give good service, with a smile. I admit to being so jealous that when Ruth got an All-Nighter, I went back the next afternoon for one, as well. Though I feel a bit dirty having to pay for it, it was worth the money. At least you were not able to give her the Naked-ness she was searching for, although you couldn't get me perfectly in the nude, either. Sin and Bad Gal are fully-stocked, and "you're stacked, 'specially in the back...", mainly because your front is dedicated to displays, open-ness (space), and various other Benefit(s). I often remember Lola's warm and inviting scent and Guilty(ily) of Gucci's spiciness when I think of you.
