I work the night shift so early morning appointments work best for me since I can go after work. I scheduled a 9am appointment with Jessica H. This is my first time booking with her and upon meeting , no greeting, no hello, nothing. Just her shouting from across the salon for me to come have a seat. Mind you this is my first time meeting her, I am a new client. I sit down and she asks what we're doing I show her a reference photo and immediately she says no I can't do that. Rather than giving me a chance to show her another picture because I had a feeling she wouldn't be able to do it she walks away talking about why she can't do it and why she'll have to schedule me with someone else. I came in to get liquor makeup and powered makeup for myself. As soon as I entered, a young lady asked if she could help me. I told her I wanted Ester Lauder liquid makeup. She found it immediately. Then she looked for the powdered makeup, but they didn't have it. She said they could order it on line and have it shipped to my home. I told her I'll come back later. I forgot to get her name but she was very helpful. On my way to the cashier, I noticed the mascara. Picked up a beautiful blue that was calling my name. I've worn blue since college. I'm not sure what's going on regarding the race war and if it's helped kind of program her mind and how she talks to African-Americans but... It is completely deplorable and unacceptable. Master stylist BRENDA is making my hair look the best of anyone I have ever had do my hair. I had fine, shoulder-length hair. It has always been my dream to have long platinum blonde hair, but it had always turned out too brassy and never grew below my shoulders. I was desperate to find someone who specialized in coloring fine, blonde hair and could help me grow it long. That is where Brenda comes in. She is a certified master hair colorist including cutting and styling. When I met Brenda she gave me a warm greeting and made me feel comfortable about coloring my hair since I had had so many bad jobs done before. She used her magical hair coloring skills to totally get the brassiness out and make it the platinum blonde that I wanted. She also cut my hair in such a way that it looked thicker. I was amazed and really happy about how I looked. With her skill at cutting and coloring my hair, it has started to grow. As you can see in the review picture it is past my bra strap and has grown a couple of more inches since then. My hair is also healthier now with the care that Brenda has given it. She has also taken the time to teach me how to care for my hair at home so it always looks good. I go to her every 7 to 10 days so that Brenda can baby my hair and it is exciting to see it grow longer and longer and be the wonderful platinum blonde color that I desire. This was my first time in Ulta. Never really had a reason to go lol. I was looking for a gift for my sister and had no idea where to start. I walked in looking bewildered, and a sales associate walked up to me and offered to help. I showed her a picture of what I was looking for, and she led me straight to it. She also gave me advice on other items I could buy to complement it. Another associate was helping my friend out with a gift for his sister. We both felt very well taken care of. The line at checkout was super long but moved quickly. I don't really have anything to compare it to, but my experience at this Ulta was first-rate! I believe her name is Sylvia and the managers name Rani every time I come here there's always someone to step my way and answer my questions. They are amazing, friendly and will get the job done. Ulta has always seemed such a winner for everyone and everyone raves about them. I've never shopped here since I love my Sephora points, but decided to finally give them a try. I am extremely disappointed! There were no useable testers; all dried out, cracked, or none left. It looked very unsanitary seeing there were no q-tips, sponges, tissues, alcohol, or makeup remover near the makeup. I overheard one of the workers insisting she help a customer and saying that usually people don't let them help and people know nothing about the products-- yet how is she going to show me how to use a crusty foundation? I actually like this Ulta, and am happy to have one near me. I haven't had a problem with the staff being rude to me, but I do agree with the other reviewers that it is understaffed, unlike the one on Kirby where there are people available to help you make selections and make recommendations, it isn't possible at this locale as everyone is stuck at the register or cleaning or there is nowhere to be found. The Ulta Beauty section can be trashed, but I will say it seems they are making more of an effort lately to make it look nice, though it still has a way to go. I do love all of the sales, the displays, and things that are available to me. If I could rate the Benefit Beauty Bar alone, I would give it four stars, as the person who did mine does a really good job. My main issue is just the lack of sales clerks to help you with selection. This Ulta is more of a go there, grab what you need, and go. If you need actual help in finding a product, currently the one on Kirby is your best bet. read more

This used to be my default cosmetic stop before I discovered MAC and Sephora. Ulta is a nice meeting of both words - drugstore and high end brands shoved into one store - with hair services (and possibly other salon services like nail?). I will say that the drugstore items here tend to run higher in price than Target, Walmart, and the like and it's not really worth perusing unless there's a sales event going on. Fortunately there often is and they issue $3.50, $5, 20% off coupons pretty frequently through the weekend papers or mailers (if you're an Ulta card member). This Ulta does carry NYX, which I haven't find readily available elsewhere in Sugar Land. The higher end products are their usual set price, but Ulta does sometimes have exclusive free items deals and special packs that Sephora and department stores may not be privy to. I kind of prefer the Sephora a few hundred yards away - better sample displays and better layout. I will say that this Ulta used to feel pretty darn bleak, but I think they've remodeled in the last few years and it does feel more Sephora-like. I've never patronized any of the salon services, but they seem reasonably priced. I've never heard anything positive about the services so I think I'll steer clear for now . . . However, I'm pretty aghast at the review below. I've never witnessed something of that caliber occur at this Ulta and hopefully they've cycled out those particular jerkoff employees. Sugar Land is a pretty conservative neck of the woods, but man . . . pretty ridiculously rude. Anyway Ulta is not terrible if one of the sales happens to showcase a staple or favorite product of yours, but I'm pretty content with going to Sephora for higher end items and Target and CVS for my drugstore stuff. read more

I was surprised I'd never done a review on this ULTA location......clearly I've done quick tips years ago, and looking back at them I don't seem very pleasant......But that can only be for 1 reason, lol. I will say this ULTA has done a full 360! It's nice to see the same faces each time I've gone in over the past 2 years now! Everyone is extremely friendly & greets all customers as they walk in. Now, aside from this location having everything you can imagine......they are the largest, I'd like to suggest Jessica for Brows!!! I recently had microblading done elsewhere & then went to Jessica to have her clean me up. She sat me down at the brow bar, explained everything she was doing, knew exactly what color would be best.....since its not time for my touch up, & had my brows on point! Love her!!!! So be sure to ask for Jessica!!!!! For hair......The One & Only Lena will be sure to take care of you!!!! She was able to make my color perfect & when I took my 9 year old in to get 5 inches cut off last week, she had her cut & styled exactly as she requested!!!! My baby looks so adorable!!!!! I can't Thank Every One that works at the Sugarland ULTA enough for everything they've done for us!!!! I will update as soon as I have the women's name that did my makeup the other day. I kept hoping to have a positive experience at this location, but the only good thing here was Jerry at the Lancôme counter. I started this review in February 2017 and apparently it was never posted. Recently I visited in December 2017 and I instantly felt welcomed when I walked in the door and any questions I had were addressed. Before I upgrade my review from a two star to higher I want to visit again to ensure my recent visit was just a case of a couple good employees. Previously it was a 1 star so I want to acknowledge the improvement. In february 2017 I came in looking for a foundation that showed it was in stock via the Ulta website- and when I did not see any on the shelf I asked could they check the back and the manager on duty at that time stated they do not put product out on the weekend. She just did not want to get me the product from the back in my opinion. Came to this location for their free tote bags (if you buy over $40 of perfume) and my experience was amazing. The staff never fails to greet you when you come in and of course the perfume section was disorganized from their free tote bag offer (I assume this was the fault of multiple customers before me) but that didn't stop the staff from helping me at all. They gave me their undivided attention, knowledgable recommendations, and really went out of their way to help me. I wanted this specific perfume after trying out their samples and asked them if they had anything similar since the one i initially wanted was sold out. I'd consider myself 99% a girly girl- I love pink, flowers, and shopping. I will probably never fulfill that remaining 1% because I don't wear much makeup, and I don't even own a hair brush. My excuse is that I want to minimize the difference between my morning face and my dolled up appearance, but secretly, it's because I know nothing about makeup and hair. If I KNEW, I would totally take that extra hour to get ready every day. But despite watching numerous YouTube tutorials, I can't make myself look good to save my life. I'd gotten by for a quarter of a century with my best friends primping me. To mourn the death of my youth, and welcome the onset of my wisdom, I decided to get my hair and makeup done professionally before my birthday dinner. The 20% off coupon from Ulta Salon offered an extra incentive. I booked an appointment and showed up on time. The lady I was scheduled with was running behind, so I waited 15 minutes, and ultimately, two different people filled in to help me instead. I trusted them with free artistic reign, only expressing a few concerns: 1. I have thick hair, so the curls needed to be LOOSE so that I didn't look like a bobble head figure. 2. If they use liquid foundation, not to pile it on or else it'll look cakey. PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME LOOK CAKEY. It's as if they did exactly what I said NOT to. My hair was puffy, and she assured me that the curls would quickly fall and flatten out. They did not (at least not for several hours). My face was caked on with makeup. I was very vocal throughout the process, and I had to ask her several times to use less eyeshadow. I mean, I guess I'm glad they're so generous given the price I'm paying, but this was just excessive. She needs to get better glasses because my eyeliner was drawn on unevenly, and I had to point it out for her to fix. The mascara was very clumpy, so it made my eyelashes stick together and left little black speckles all over my cheeks, which she could not see so I cleaned up myself. I was repeatedly complimented by the staff about how "pretty" I looked. The first time was fine, but after the seventh time, it starts to feel a bit disingenuous and scripted. They also kept trying to upsell. "I really wish you'd get the fake eyelashes. It'd really complete your look!" No, I will not pay $10 just for the APPLICATION of the lashes. No, my answer has not changed since the last time you asked me minutes ago. No, I don't believe my Asian eyes were meant to be curtained by such heavy, thick lashes. It was a frustrating experience. I felt like a clown until I went home to wipe off the excess layers. Fellas, I hope you appreciate the trouble your women go through just to look a certain way for you. For me? I booked a hair and color appointment at this Ulta Salon on Friday afternoon. I was hoping for a Sunday afternoon appointment. They confirmed me for 12:00 PM that Sunday. On Sunday morning around 10:30 I got a strange call from the Ulta Salon asking if I still wanted to keep my noon appointment. I obviously did because I hadn't called them to cancel. As I was driving to the store at 11:45 AM, I got another call asking if I could come is an hour later. I said no, that this would not be convenient. She mumbled something about maybe she could get another stylist to assist me. Apparently the stylist who I was going to see would be an hour late. I'm assuming because of the time change? But they didn't say why. And I they knew she was going to be late, I'm guessing they knew at 10:30 that this was going to be an issue. I didn't get another call from them. When I arrived I stood there and waited for about 5 minutes before anyone even asked if I needed assistance. When they finally did they asked me to take a seat. That yes, the stylist was still going to be an hour late, but that another stylist was going to try to "fit me in". Baloney, my time is very valuable and I think if I would have called them 15 minutes before my appointment and said I'd be an hour late, they would probably not accommodate me. Never going back.
