This store's description needs updating as it does not carry general hobby items, only items pertaining to and related to RC cars or model cars and planes (and gundams for some reason). No idea what they mean by "tools" or "full service hobby shop" because it's not true. Today was my first time visiting Ultimate Hobbies with my wife and 6 year old. My son is really into RC trucks and we went in to just window shop and get info. Jacob was very helpful and knowledgeable from the beginning. He was very kind and provided me with plenty of information to make the best possible decision on getting a R/C truck for my son. I ended up holding off on purchasing a new RC truck today and just purchased a part I needed. The prices are reasonable and Jacob informed me they have better prices then going on line. Jacob displayed no sales pressure at all. Jacob provided excellent customer service and is an asset to Ultimate Hobbies. I will definitely return to make my purchase from Jacob and will definitely recommend anyone in the market to visit and support the shop. In recommend Ultimate hobbies have more displays and R/C's out for kids & people to see and hold. This would separate you guys from customers going through on line way of purchasing. Or have select R/C's people/ kids could try out on a small track in the store to give the new hobbiest a more hands on feel would all boost sales in your store. After browsing various online shops for Tamiya hobby paints and being disappointed by needing to place several orders to get all the paints i needed, I decided to make the drive and checked this place out. Upon arriving, i was excited to find a wide selection of tamiya paints/supplies in stock, plus a ton of model cars and a huge selection of gundam models from HG to PG. A wonderful selection of RC planes, boats, crawlers, drifter you name it! All at a fair price. Even having niche things such as Mini-Z and having a track for them. Not stopping they have basically any upgrade you could think of. To top it all off the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and EXTREMELY helpful. sucks to write this as I try and make it a point to try and support local owned business before going online. purchased a $1k+ RC truck and it shorted out day 1. went in the next day to look into warranty. got the run around about warranty and manufacturer etc etc etc. after spending another $400 to replace the warranty parts so my car was back up and running. they kept telling me when my stuff came back from the manufacturer they would work something out with me. over a week later I get a call about my parts, come down and pick them up and ask about the parts that I was charged for. was told to sell them on offer up and they weren't going to work with me. I can get the same crap customer service buying on Amazon and ultimately pay less as well. I guess that's what I get for trying to support local family owned business. sadly I won't be spending money with them again. the same time I was dealing with them on my parts that failed the first day, my co worker was in the store also purchasing a $1k+ buggy. not only did they lose my business but his as well...... all over a $150. which i would have spent in the store anyways. read more

They have a decent selection, but their staff isn't that friendly. I have been here a number of times and each time there is this underlying superiority complex from their staff. They do their best to make the shopper feel uneducated about RC. Sly comments and very little actually cusotmer service are common place. They often actually don't even know what they are talking about as they have sold me the wrong parts 2 times and wasted my time and money. Which is why I'm taking the time to write this review. I'd love to support small business and it leave a good review typically but after a few visits, they have put a bad taste in my mouth. I'll drive a bit further and find a shop who values the cusotmer and is willing to share their passion with others instead of trying to increase their own status to themselves. I recently found myself with an interest in the RC hobby space, more so from a reselling perspective. First time I came into the store I was slightly intimidated being that I had no knowledge of the RC space and didn't know the lingo. I was greeted by a younger gentleman, he was able to answer my questions on a vintage RC truck I came across. The gentleman sitting at the cash register, (not sure if he was the manager) was also very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions and gave me suggestions on where to find parts I needed that they didn't carry. The staff was friendly and very professional. On my second visit I showed up with a different RC car, a car mind you that they do not carry and don't have parts for. Regardless of that, they were still able to suggest parts that I needed and sell me a couple items that I thought I needed. Again, they were very polite about the fact that I did not know what I was talking about, and I asked a lot of questions that may have seemed like common sense to someone in the know. When I got home I realized that the parts that I bought did not work since my battery was dead and needed to be replaced. I called in and spoke to the manager/owner and he asked me to come back in and he would check the battery for me. When I came in the gentleman told me he thought the battery might be dead and he'd be happy to attempt to jump start it to see if it was usable. He attempted to jump start the battery to no avail, I was not charged for this process. After we figured out that my battery was dead and I had spent about $50 on parts that I pretty much didn't need at this point, I was offered a store credit. I let the manager know that I would much prefer a refund and there was no argument and they complied with my request in a very friendly manner. All in all I'm happy to say that this hobby store is just the kind of place that people with this kind of interest would be more than happy to find locally. It's a very large store with a lot of items and usually three to four people on staff that are happy to help and are quick to assist any customer that walks in the door. If I ever have any needs for any RC parts, questions, or suggestions this will be my go-to spot. read more

Don't know why I waited so long write a review. I have been coming here's for 2 years. All the staff are very helpful! I have purchased 2 Traxxas Slash RC cars and a Traxxas Mini Erevo from them. They are my go to place for my RC needs. They are kind of like Costco but in a good way-you won't leave without spending $100+ even if you tell yourself that you are just going in for a spur gear because of their selection and cool stuff! This review is based on their Tamiya 4wd Mini Car races. Pros: - Lots of stock - Good prizes - Nice sized track Cons: - Very disorganized - Expects customers to police themselves (So many obnoxiously loud adults yelling in Tagalog. Yes, I'm also Filipino, and I understood the vulgar language that the adults were exchanging with kids around) - Rude race host - Complacent with how they run things - NOT WELCOMING Cliff, the person in charge of Mini 4wd races, was open to feedback on how to improve the experience at his store. I gave him some ideas. For example: - Keep the center of the track clear so ppl testing cars can see where their cars are going - Have staff make regular announcements to keep walkways clear - Make each category have first priority for testing their cars if they're up soon. Other categories can wait for the second half of the practice session. Cliff seemed open to the ideas and feedback. Sadly, it was the race host that was rude and closed-minded. I was shocked to hear from my husband and my roommate who came with me to the races that the race host had given the three of us dirty looks. Not sure why, but we assume that it's because we're openly gay (dirty looks came before I spoke to Cliff). My message to the owner and to Cliff: Please invest in more staff for the races, not prizes. The quality and the experience is more important than just catering to your regulars. Be welcoming to new guests. You don't know how beneficial they may be to the future of your business. Please get rid of the raffle because it's illegal for a for-profit company to do raffles in California. Have your race host, Brian, take a class in basic customer service. If he can ask about his lunch break, then that tells me he is a paid employee that should be held to higher standards. He represents Ultimate Hobbies at these events, and being professional while at the events does not require physical effort. Being told that this activity is not for me by Brian was very rude and insulting. Always encourage your customers to come back, never discourage them. Be empathic and listen to concerns. Unfortunately, Ultimate Hobbies lost our business. We live locally, and have frequented the store for kits and parts (spent a lot of money). This was our first race, and the impression was not good. Not only do they have staff that has been around for years in the industry, but they were really friendly and helpful.
