Every time I've came to Ultra Bar I've had somewhat of a good experience. However, last night was the worst experience I've EVER had at a club in my entire life. First I'm going to say the staff and the owner have no customer service what so ever and ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY NOT THE CUSTOMERS!!!! I went to this club last night for a friend's birthday. My boyfriend paid for my ticket to get into vip, which I was unaware of... so we paid $60 total ($20 each person). When my boyfriend saw I was in the card line and already paid he asked me why I did that since he paid for me already. It was a simple misunderstanding. We then went to the person who had accepted his cash tickets and said he only had one ticket to get in so there was nothing he could do. The guy saw everything that happened and didn't even stick of for my boyfriend. He lied in front of his face and to everyone else including the owner. This situation ruined our mood while we were in the club and I said I was going to go outside to try to straighten this situation out. I talked to multiple people including the owner and they said there was nothing they could do because there was no proof. WHEN THE GUY WHO TOOK MY BOYFRIEND'S MONEY WAS THE PROOF!!! Not worth a visit. At all. The place is small and gets more overcrowded than any club I've ever been. If you want to be crushed and bumped around all night with no room to even grind a random stranger let alone get a drink with friends, maybe you'll have fun. Plus, you might melt at how uncomfortably hot they let the place get. Then, no water unless you want to pony up $5. How is that even legal when you're serving alcohol and refuse to turn on the A/C? What a miserable experience. Randomly, even though I was here less than 30 minutes, I was offered drugs by two different, unaffiliated strangers. If that sounds like where it's at for you, then maybe Ultra is your kind of place. Otherwise, I can't imagine why anyone over 21 (or someone under 21 but with a fake ID) would ever want to come here. I was lucky enough to come with a meetup.com group that got us in past the line, but if you don't have a hookup, be prepared to wait. They advertise no cover before midnight if you like them on facebook, but it'll take you at least an hour in line if you don't show up before 8:30. Every Washingtonian has an Ultrabar story. Many go like this: I went there when I was 18 or 19 because it's 18+ for ladies and I was so excited to go out to a club and dance. Then I got hit on by a plethora of creepy older men and had to have my older sister rescue me. Never again. They have all sorts of early bird promos because no one gets there early and it's filled with creepy men who come up to you on the dance floor. The line is always out the door and yes the dancing is fun, which is why people go back here. Something to do once for the experience and that's it. read more

I came here because my girlfriend wanted to celebrate her bday. She is 22 years old. I guess I understand why she picked this place. There were so many kids. Also I found out later that this place is over 18 years old. i am in 30s. When I got here around 11PM, I saw the huge line. I seriously thought that I could not get in before midnight. But I got in before midnight. So I didn't need to pay the cover charge. But my husband had to pay $15. He was bitching about that as soon as he got in. When I entered the place, wow this was a nice place. a few dancing girls were wearing tiny clothes and dancing on the stage. But the first floor was packed. When I stood there, some guy grabbed my ass. I did not like it. Also there were four different floor and each floor has the different scene. When I went to the second floor, the entire floor was smelled like a bathroom. WTF. The music was okay. I danced with it. I think if I was much younger, I might like this place. I had not visited Ultrabar since it changed hands. The space was great, there were multiple stories of entertainment. I was invited to the 20-30s Asian meetup group's CNY celebration. Along with lion dancing on the dance floor it was crazy! I'd not seen that many asian people in Washington DC all at once. The bar reminded me of Muse but less cheese. No scantily-clad waitresses running around. At the top floor where the event was held it was packed with Asian people. The music was exactly the same as the night before at BlackFinn, but better synced. It was a fun event with many Asian and other Mandarin-speaking friends. College Night. You want to hate this place. It just imbues that "look I've got a fake-ID from Arizona" vibe. But you know what, I can complain. Drinks are mysteriously strong. And at least the 30 something bartender downstairs was very attentive despite the volume of orders. That blond may be more fun to order from, but I can tell you for sure she doesn't garner any Miss Congeniality votes. The alleged "VIP" dance floor is uncrowded, has better music, multiple private bathrooms, and MUCH better A/C. *But for some reason the bar doesn't stock the same assortment of beer and liquor as the downstairs bar, kinda disappointing if you don't like to change horses in mid-stream, but still a relatively small bump on the road to your next DUI. To get up there, just be marginally well dressed, or make sure one of your dates wears a J-Lo'esque top, that seems to work too. Probably the best part, they don't start kicking you out at last call. they just have you finish your drink and keep dancing. If you are under 21, expect them to give you the classy double-X on your hands. Easy solution. Bring that Goof-Off (TM) stuff, and a set of those colored snap-on bracelet things they always give you at these sorts of places. then just wash off in the bathroom and slap the appropriately colored bracelet on your wrist. (we were all under 21 once) Actually, it's a good idea to carry those heavy duty vinyl snap on bands and the Tyvek wristbands (the papery onese which stick on) in several colors too. Sort of the under-21 survival kit. They don't have to be perfect, just close enough, the lighting is never that good in these places. read more

I take my under-21 friends to this place because it's the most tolerable out of the rest of the 18+ clubs in DC on a Saturday night. I've been twice, and I have to say, I didn't mind it either time. My gripe is that they hold the line for long periods of time, and though the valet at the small restaurant next door was $12, this valet was a whopping $20 (for an 18+ club come ON). So darn right, I'm getting in free. Be prepared to pay up if you're an 18+ male at $25. If you're an 18+ female, $15-20 for you. While you're standing in line, the staff is very easy and fun to chat up. Coat check is in the boonies, but is more affordable at $4. The four floors usually have some slight variety in the music the DJ plays (but not much). The only floor that I seem to like the most is the third floor (Latin floor). Overall though--lots of techno, top40, mash-ups, electronic/dance. Do you have a little exhibitionist in you? Dance on the platforms. Trust me, it's a LOT of fun and it makes the night better. Everyone's there to dance it up, celebrate and have a good time. Can't argue with that. All in all, decent spot for the not-yet-legal. Went on a Thursday night with a group of ten + it is free before 11 but after it was $20 per person even if 21+ that's fine cause we heard it was 3 floors but wrong on Thursday's they only open the first floor. which is the size of the a large hallway. we kept requesting Spanish/latin music, we got maybe two songs. there are no tables other then the vip table service and its wintertime in d.c. no signs anywhere about coat check other then security being pissy about us putting our things in the corner and yelling at us about coat check downstairs. it's 4 dollars. drink prices where ridiculously high and the min on a card was $25. expensive, rude staff, false advertisement, tiny place, shitty music. read more

Yup! Love this place! Why? Why am I giving five star? Cause we had an excellent Private Party here a while ago! And when the bartender confuse to choose which one she had to serve first from all this people in the front of her, the manager jump in to help out and giving me a privilege to get my drinks first and fast. It's all about the excellent skill of a customer service. And I want to say, the drink is not bad at all, the bartender know how to mix it. Good job! Apparently Ultra is a sister bar with Lima Lounge. Cool! This place is quite big, with two different side and levels. It's a quite adventure I may say, when I decide to go around to discover each part of the Ultra Bar. And the food is excellent! My favorite is the lamb chop! That night they have some Asian food too. Even though the Lo Mein seems it has been sitting for a while and taste less than it should. But, anything else is perfect! That is why I feel that Ultra Bar deserve to get a five star! Most disrespected night I've ever had. Go anywhere else if you don't want to get bullied! Bouncers are straight up dicks to guys. In the city for a week on vacation and decided to go to the club last night because I came across their ad and a free pass inside. When I tried to leave the club by like 1:30am through the front and there was a very short rope guide I could easily step over to leave that the door is right next to. This bouncer inside stops me and tells me to go around the same way I entered to exit, the SAME EXACT DOOR that is legit 1 foot away from me rn. There's only 1 door in and out. I ask him all I'm doing is trying to leave. He tells me no one is getting past this rope, I was like the door is right there wym. Then these ppl were being kicked out and they unhooked the same rope guide I was trying to leave through. I simply then tried to follow them out and I was forcibly pushed back inside by the bouncer stopping me from leaving! He clicked the rope guide back and yelled at me to go around the wall all so he could get the dumbest satisfaction out of it and watch me follow his dumb order. It's legit easier to leave when you are getting kicked out, had to hold myself back from fighting him and ruining my vacation! This dude wanted to feel so entitled by having me walk the long way around this wall only to end up right where he is standing on the other side of this dumb rope guide, same door I could reach out and touch from where I was standing before. Dumb bouncers who look for ways to feel empowered. Bouncers outside will pick on your clothing regardless of it's allowed in or not. They went around saying no "athletic wear" while everyone was in line outside saying you need a belt, but nowhere online lists any dress code. Going up to ppl and not denying them but simply telling them uhhh "idk about those pants man" "gotta have a belt" telling them the rule on athletic wear but still letting them in (then why even confront them about the clothing in the first place). Luckily I had board shorts with a belt even, but that didn't stop bouncers from picking on me for wearing shorts in 90 DEGREE HUMID weather when I was getting in. Also I have California's newest issue of ID, they have more things on it making it harder to fake. So I've been went to Ultrabar about 3 to 4 times now and the first time it was pretty interesting it was cool multiple floors different music was a decent experience from a regular club that just play's Hispanic music no hate to those clubs btw. Here is where the bad begins when I went the other few times, they play the same music EVERY FREAKING TIME main floor basic white girl shit same remix's it's boring same from the 3rd floor same Hispanic music every time 4th floor hip hop/ rap it's the worst of all it's the most noticeable one SAME DAMN MUSIC EVERY TIME is so repetitive it's fucking boring. Another thing it is always overcrowded you can barley move I mean barley people are coming in and out every second and it's very annoying I could barley dance every empty spot I found taken cant even dance. Another thing I've been yelled at by a security staff one time for mistaking him for someone who might of been random they were pushing to go downstairs because there was a problem going on outside so I was like hey I'm sorry there's no space to move and the security move the fuck out my way screaming I'm my face the embarrassment I felt I wanted to lose it right there but thank god I'm patient.drinks I can't drink because I'm under 21 I usually get regular drinks and it's good tbh bar tenders are actually nice to me they make all my drinks free never had to pay and there quite good looking so that's a plus. Didn't know what I was getting into when I stepped through the doors. Music was just okay. It was underwhelming and the staff was mediocre. One bartender had an ego the size of the multiple floor club. She demanded for people to say please and wouldn't give service to those who wouldn't do as she asked. A disgusting portrayal of customer service. And what's worse is that I and other people of color were targeted by her. She was a total racist and she should be fired. Been here a couple times now, and both times have been incredibly disappointing. The bouncers are incredibly rude and condescending. They searched our bags before going in (which was fine) but then proceeded to comment on everything in them, making snarky comments and acting like children. The club goers are a weird mix of high school seniors and 50 year old men, which made the general atmosphere extremely unsettling. The drinks are overpriced and are essentially a mixture of soda and seltzer water, with maybe two drops of actual liquor. Overall, would not recommend this bar and will not be returning. read more

I had a lot of fun here with some friend this past Saturday night! It's a fun club atmosphere, but it isn't for the mild or clostrophobic! There was a line when I got there, but it moved pretty quickly and the staff who managed the line kept everything under control and moving smoothly. I did not like the fact that there was a $20 cover charge, I know they have some specials if you check on lime to get a reduced fee or some get in for free, but it was after midnight so we had to pay full charge. This was especially sad for me because at home girls don't pay to get in anywhere, but I guess that's just something to expect in a city and a nicer venue! My friends and I went to dance and celebrate a birthday, so it was perfect for us, we even got on the platform and danced. It was a lot of fun for a Saturday night! I wish I could go back! read more

Went for an event, first bouncer let us walk through a practical obstacle course just to tell us to go to the other side. Already a yuck vibe. We go to the other side where another bouncer and presumably the owner were standing talking. Bouncer asks for ID's, we show and they clear us. My boyfriend had just left work so he had his briefcase with him. Understandably they wouldn't let him in with it. The problem was how this person that presented himself as the owner or at least the manager conducted himself. Considering his position you'd think he wouldn't talk down to us like he did. The place had an obstacle course of ropes but no line. Literally no one was trying to get in..on a Friday night. I can totally understand their rating. I guess if you have a club, a lone club in the middle of nowhere near Chinatown you'd be a bit bitter too. Packed and overpriced... but at least the music is good! Went here for New Years Eve. They offered admission plus a one-hour open bar for $40 a person. The "one-hour open bar" is actually a 45 minute mosh pit. They don't actually start letting people in until 15 minutes into the open bar time. They only have one bar open and pushing your way to the bar, getting the bartender's attention and actually getting a drink required divine intervention. After the open bar period expired, it got a lot easier to get drinks since there is one bar open on each of the three floors and a well drink costs $11. This place has three different floors which each sports a different style of music. I really enjoyed the music. It was great dancing music. However, half of each "floor", which was really just a long hallway, was roped off for VIP tables (they were virtually empty the whole night). This meant that every floor was packed with people who were constantly pushing past one another and it was very hard to actually dance without getting repeatedly shoved. My recommendations for management: Make the drinks reasonably affordable, actually honor "one-hour open bar" promotions and don't reserve half of the club for VIP areas that are never going to be occupied. read more

i would give this place 3.5 stars Yes clubs get better after you turn 21! It does get rowdy and prices of drinks are high. and security can get fiesty . But it's all about how you handle yourself and the crowd and situation. My friend DjChespi on the Latin floor Saturday nights, he is it !! I love his Djing ! My experience at this club has overall been well. Good drinks kind bartenders , chilling in the DJ booth , dancing on stage , good times with friends. But don't get me wrong i've had the bad stuff too from the first paragraph but you live and learn.
