This club is too packed to have a good time. I agree there are mostly 'fuglies'. The bouncers are absolutely disgusting especially on the first floor. I had an incident occur where one of them was shoving a drunk guy into my friend and I and telling him to 'go get those b******'. Seriously. The only thing I didn't like was the fact you had to pay extra for soap and paper towels in the bathroom to wash your hands. The 3 stars are because this is DC. By NYC standards it would be lower, but again, what can you expect here in yuppieville? The bartenders are fast with the drinks and they aren't dive bar overpoured. That means a good time lasts longer. When I've gone the music has been great. Crowd? Yuppie, but then what do you expect, this is DC. Unfortunately the yuppie crowd doesn't exactly pump energy into the room with the cookie-cutter Nordstrom stuffy seasonal lineup. I originally came here to have a drink after a film screening, there was a free drink before 10pm or so, then as I was thinking about leaving, music started pumping and people started coming in, I realized they where also going to other floors and so I followed. The first floor has the biggest dancefloor, it gets very crowded and the music is loud, there are two other floors, one that has a latino feel with percussions and a VIP floor at the top with a 'special' bar and hotter girls (turns out the best dancers work for the bar). Although the different groups don't mingle that much, the atmosphere was rather warm, sometimes even hot (yes, there will be girls doing the horizontal mambo dance against your groin that seems to be so famous in the States)...I ended up staying almost until they closed and remember stealing (ok borrowing really) the percussions at a certain point in the night, and someone giving me their card to play the drums for their band...I was rather intoxicated when I left, and the next day my hands where blue...I must have played one long and sweet rythm on the dance floor. read more

The bar has one real dance floor instead of the 5 it boasts on its website. The VIP area isn't worth the $400 b/c its only 2 seats. The music is every song that has a techno mix to it. Went to Ultrabar this past Friday with a group of friends and was pleasantly surprised. Although the line was long, we printed the passes off their website beforehand and got in for free before 11. Once inside, the main level dance floor was good; there were plenty of attractive girls and the music bumpin'. Ultra Disappointment!! They ruined my Birthday Party!! We first reserved a table( for Saturday) on Tuesday. We got a call from one of their promoters Thursday telling us that we lost our reservation but they have another table on the mezzanine floor. I vividly remember when I booked the table there was only one other table reserved for that day. Clearly they gave away our table probably to someone they know. I know that should have been a red flag but we had faith and we said okay. We get to ultrabar they tell us we have to wait in the the "Table" line for about 45 minutes. We said okay. The douche bag promoter/bouncer they had at the door was extremely rude and condescending. After 45 minutes of waiting and seeing a whole lot of people who came after us being admitted right in front of our eyes the promoter/bouncer/douche bag comes back only to tell us that we are 30 minutes late and he doesn't have a table for us anymore. And that we have to do bottle service at the bar. It was quite embarrassing to be treated that way in front of your guests. There was absolutely NO WAY that I would spend my money to be treated that way. I took my business elsewhere. read more

My daughter had her first experience going to a club yesterday to celebrate a friend's birthday and she went to this place. She is 19. At the door, her hands were marked with an X meaning that she is a minor, therefore she cannot drink alcohol. She went to the first floor bar and she asked for a Shirley Temple which is granadine and sprite. She paid $4 and when she started drinking, she noticed the drink had something else. The bartender poured vodka in it. She complained and told him about it and he said he did not do that, that he put sprite. Her friend's drink had no alcohol in it, she tasted it, but hers did. It is illegal to serve alcohol to a minor, and worse to lie to her face when she knows darn well what the drink tastes like. She then went to a female bartender and told her about it, and she gave her a bottle of water. I'm glad I raised my daughter right and she knew right from wrong. She went to the bathroom and got rid of the drink, drank her water and she will not go back there again. Total disappointment. read more

I'm new to DC but not the club scene. I went with a group of my friends, waited in a unmoving line for quite a while. Then some time after, My group of friends were checked in by far the rudest bouncer I've ever encountered. Fair warning that for the guys, a certain 'dress code' has to be met for this joke of a club. Once paying (overpriced for entrance fee), we went inside to find it being a small, overcrowded area with what looked like high schoolers/ frat boys partying. We all got a table which was ok but of course the service had to suck.... Overall, this 'club' is a major joke and is the lamest one I've ever stepped foot in. read more

My friends and I paid for a table (which is supposed to include free admission and two bottles) and we were charged double the amount we were originally told! The staff intentionally misrepresented what we were getting for our money. We ended up being charged more than $800. To add insult to injury, I was sexually harassed by the men who work here! Once my friends and I got inside, I was greeted with a fun and friendly crowd filled with a diversity of sexy, beautiful people on every floor. some friends and i went to ultra bar on Friday the 24th and we had a good time. cover was a little steep but that's clubs these days. drinks were good, we were on the main floor and the 2nd of i believe four floors most of the time. ultra bar has its good and its bad points. its had good music and a very diverse crowd of people, but its crowed at times and the bathroom situation can be a little difficult sometimes. the security at the front was very nice to me, the bouncer, a black guy that looked like rick ross lol, explained to us what the "X's" meant, even though we already knew, but he was very nice and professional as he explained the do's and donts of the club, then he complimented me on my dress. it was actually very nice, not creepy at all as u might expect from allot of the security at clubs these days. AND then there was the guy directing people going in and out of the club . OMG he was so delicious, gorgeous, handsome.....he was very sexy lol. as we stood there waiting to go inside he came over and in a very polite and charming way he let us know we were in the way and needed to make our way inside lol. i didn't feel hurried or rushed but the urgency was communicated. once we got inside, we were dancing and having a good time, good mix of music. allot of old creepy dudes though. we stayed on the main floor for a while and then we were in the bedroom or the Latin floor. and that's when i saw more man candy. i was like damn the bouncers here are sexy, but it turned out to be the same guy from before! except this time he didn't have his jacket on and i nearly knocked some guys drink outta his hand starring at him. tall, buff light skinned guy, so i went over to talk to him. i asked him to dance and he said he couldn't because he didn't want to get in trouble. we chatted for a couple minutes and then he had to go. he was very nice to me and very handsome, ill be back to club we had fun good music, good atmosphere. read more

I went there for my 18th birthday this mid July with a group of friends. After printing out the passes on their facebook page, we all got into the club really quickly because we went pretty early. We were the first to get in there, but they gave us re entry stamps. it's a good idea for anybody who wants to avoid the hassle of a line, go have some fun in DC somewhere else and get in later. The employees were all really friendly and the music was great. Guys tried to pick us up yeah, but what else can you expect from guys who see newbie clubbers without dates? So we was outside about to go in and when I was getting ID'd the security was such a douche cursing at customers. And the Latin floor bartender was very rude. Went to Ultra Bar DC for NYE 2008(12/31/2008). Had a group of 25 people with me. I had made reservation and reserved 2 VIP Tables on the Bedroom level for a their minimum spend of $1200 plus 20% gratuity but this only covered 12 people, ther other 13 people had to buy general admission and I was fine with that. My big thing was that we had to have two table side by side on the VIP area. When we get there around 10pm, after dinner, they tell us that they sold one of our tables to a group who had already bought 4 tables and wanted another so gave this other party 5 tables in a row which booted us out. They brought a bouncer to talk to us and said there is nothing to fix, and that the VIP coordinator just messed up and they couldn't fix it. They offered us three options: OPTION 1 was to split the party up and take 2 tables which were on different parts of the floor. which made obviously no sense to us OPTION 2 was to take the one table and shrink our party to 6 people on the table. and OPTION 3 was to leave the club and lose our deposit of $600. It was absolutely ridiculous. We took option 2 and dealt with the situation as it was NYE and we had no choice at that point. They decided to comp a bottle of Smirnoff which is the cheapest vodka ever, cheaper than absolut which is listed at $195 in their menu. The only good thing I can say about the club is that their music was not too bad but their service and setup was horrible. and they nevevr came around to refill our mixers/sodas/red bulls. it was pretty bad. stay away if possible. you will be sure the DJ's that work for me and the production companies that I am involved with will hear about this.... read more

The worst place! They charge high & if they don't like you inside your kicked out! If you dicied to get out for a smoke, well coming back is not as easy because they will look for a problem to tell you you can't come back in, or go pay again if you want to get it! The stuff is also very rude & automatically consider you us someone who is trying to harm them or something. I seriously came out to have a good time & it was the worst night! Seriously! I was left in 25 degree cold outside after I paid $30 to get in and was told you don't have the mark on you when you can clearly see it but they were saying we can't see it clearly! My phone was dead and my friends were inside and there was no way I can communicate with them, so I had to wait for hr and half for them to get out! I went to the hospital the next day as well. They don't even was to let me use there phone, I mean I didn't know any of my friends number but still I asked to see if they would offer. Came here Jan 14 to celebrate my sisters birthday, we were honestly just trying to have a good time as it was also her first club experience. We got there at 11:30 pm. As soon as we got past the ID checks, we went to the other bouncer to pay the cover charge. I had the VIP pass on my phone which gave me free entry as I am 24 year old female before 12:30 am. The pass also said any female 18+ can get a reduced cover charge. I showed the bouncer my phone to get the reduced cover charge for my sister and he rudely said "She needs to show the VIP pass on her phone not your phone." So I sent the link quickly to my sister so she could show it to him and then he said "hurry it doesn't take long to open up a link, you're holding up the line". I was beyond annoyed. He was being so rude towards my sister and I. After we got in it was just too crowded and the bartenders don't allow credit card purchases unless they're 20$ and up. We were only there for maybe two hours or so. Music was really wack. This place is just so bad now. Never ever coming here again. read more

My friends and I made a reservation for a table at Ultra for a bachelorette party. We had difficulty getting in (in spite of our reservation) and our waitress was unaware that we had pre-ordered alcohol. The floor in both the VIP and regular areas was absolutely soaked throughout the night, and one member of our party needed x-rays the following day after slipping in a spilled drink. A drunk individual at the next table over vomited all over our table and belongings. The vomit was never cleaned up, and while the vomit-er and her friends were being removed from the bar, the I.D. and credit card used to reserve OUR table was mistakenly given to the party being kicked-out. We were told we were not going to be charged for the evening by our waitress (who was very sweet), but charges have since shown up on the credit card which the staff at Ultra gave to another patron. My experience at Ultra was so bad, I am unlikely to go to ANY club in the future. read more

I've been to many bars in D.C. and this was definitely in the top 3 worst bars. Lets start at the door. It was ladies night, but for some reason the three girls that were with us paid full price. What kind of ladies night is that? It's impossible to get a drink on the dance floors so have fun walking up their 80 degree steep stairs to get to the other bars. The torn up two person love seat (which is actually the VIP table) was 300 dollars and they didn't even rope off the area; meaning, anyone could come in and go out as they please; meaning, you just paid 300 dollars to sit down on a chair. When I got back to my table, four people were there sitting. I didn't want to bother them resting on my seat, so I just nicely asked them for my jacket back that they were sitting on. There is no room to dance (people keep bumping into you), and God forbid you bring a girl there, she will get attacked like a group of hyenas on an innocent zebra. I'm not here to advertise the other clubs, and tell you where I had the most fun. I just want people to know what to expect before they spend 8 dollars on a rum and coke, hold the rum. Overall, very unsatisfied. Do yourself a favor and spend the twenty dollar entrance fee on a box of hot pockets, or maybe some bird seed, or whatever.... read more

I went there last night for my brothers 21st birthday. We got there kinda early so we Didn't have to wait in line, but we were on the guest list and got there before 11. Which I was told I'd get in for reduced price yet the dumb guy at the door charge me as regular. oh and the people they have outside are sooo rude! you cant ask them anything without them catching an attitude! and the girls they have outside are constantly staring people down and rolling their eyes.The 3rd floor was popping! the Latin room was ehhh. I didn't like the fact that one of the security guys kept asking me if I was drunk. I know how to control my liquor and I don't need someone constantly asking me if I'm okay, it seemed like he was just trying to kick me out. 2:15AM 12/01/13 Horrible experience! Worst club ever!!! Staff was extremely rude! Got there late and they wanted a $20 cover each for my date and myself! $40 for being treated like dirt. I went here for the first time last night, I really wasn't expecting much of anything due to all the negative reviews this place gets. I was surprised, It was actually an awesome place! Yes the drinks get a little pricey after midnight or whenever the specials end, but I have definitely seen worse. I thought they were pretty strong, every bartender is different, if your getting a crappy drink, try a different floor, I had no problems at all. The multiple levels to this place is awesome, there's something for everyone. For those that want to complain about the $20 cover, you can find free passes every night on their website, takes 30 seconds to print one off. Yes is you go after midnight or whenever that is over, your going to have to pay, but easy fix, go before midnight. Yes its an 18+ club, but if that really bothers you, there are plenty of other clubs around. I would recommend you at least give it a shot and go one time. read more

I visited Ultra Bar for NYE 2013 and overall I liked the place. The drinks were good (they serve them in hard plastic cups that look sort of like whiskey glasses which was nice) and poured at the right amount of strength. As far as ordering from the bartenders, the top level was my favorite because we could actually hear each other speaking and the girls working were very friendly. The walk-in level DJ was super loud so the bartender and I on that floor had to do a lot of screaming and hand motions to communicate. I thought the music was good because I like current rap/hip hop/pop and there was some interesting stuff going on with the lights. There is supposed to be a bunch of floors but I only found three of them and on this particular night (NYE) they had almost every bench turned into bottle service with reserved tables so there was NO PLACE to sit down except one random bench with no tables on the bottom floor. On the NYE invitation it said 21+ which was nice because I'm not sure I would go to a club that was 18+. The crowd was diverse with mostly cool people mixed in with the traditional creepers. The bathroom is on the bottom floor that is led to by a tiny spiral staircase so be warned. If I had the chance for a do over, I'd ditch the heels for the night. read more
