Came in on a Sunday night 15 minutes before close. Ordered "the best" which was quite good but, it was not flavored all the way through. There were about 3 bites of flavor then the rest was all shaved ice. I tried to go back in and see if I could get it remade but the worker locked the door on me and wouldn't talk to me. The two people before me had to get their order remade because the same thing happened. We came during their soft opening and was greeted with the warm welcomes. We ordered the "Haleakala" with mochi and the "sunset beach" with vanilla ice cream. The Haleakala was delicious and creamy and I would recommend it. The sunset was pretty good and had a more fruity taste. The site was very clean and nicely themed. read more

I took my son and his friend to Ululani's, and we all loved it! They have something for everyone, with tons of flavor options and sizes to choose from. The line was out the door, but the wait was absolutely worth it. The staff were friendly, helpful, and really knew their stuff. Definitely crave worthy! Each time I have gone there has been a long time which is expected being that it's new and sooo good! Everyone has been working hard while being super kind and patient all while having a good attitude. They definitely do take a while perfecting each order which i didnt understand but obviously they know what they are doing. So excited that Ululani's is finally in San Diego! The shave ice tasted just like it does in Hawaii -- super refreshing and the softest ice. My only downside (which seems to be a common theme in other reviews) was how slow the line moved. We arrived at 11:45am on a Saturday -- they open at 12pm -- and there were about 10 people ahead of us. I didn't get my shave ice until 12:45pm. I get that it's a new spot and they're probably still working out the kinks, but the wait felt too long for something like shave ice. I'd love to come back regularly because the shave ice is amazing, but realistically, I just can't commit to waiting that long every time. read more

If you've had Ululani's on Hawai'i, you'll be disappointed in this location. After first having Ululani's on Maui, and then on O'ahu I was super excited that they were opening up a location near San Diego. Went there today and of course there was a line out the door as expected. We got in line just past the restaurant next door, still it took 2hrs to get to the front of the line to order. The inside was busy, lots of kids, the music was a bit too loud for my liking especially with all the kids... my son and I found it annoying but we powered through. My nephew is on the spectrum & has noise sensitivity so unfortunately this would not be a friendly space for him especially considering the wait. My usual order is double pineapple coconut w non dairy Haupia ice cream and Haupia cream drizzle. I was disappointed that the non dairy Haupia ice cream was not available at this location, they did have mango sorbet but I don't prefer that. At least they do have a non dairy option. My son ordered blue raspberry, watermelon & pink lemonade with vanilla ice cream and Haupia drizzle. Once our order was in we waited about 10 min for my son's to be ready and then another 4-5 minutes for mine. Now for the taste test. My last trip to O'ahu was in April-May 2025. I was there for 3 weeks and had Ululanis at least 3-4 times while I was there. I've never had Ululani's that was less than a 9/10... until today. Just based on taste alone I had to give it a 7/10. There was something notably off about the taste from what I'm used to. Something had a bit of an after taste... like it had been in a freezer too long. It was hard to pinpoint what it was. The only thing I got that wasn't just syrup & ice was the Haupia drizzle. Overall it was disappointing, especially after 2 hours of eagerly and patiently waiting in line. Add the lack of non dairy Haupia ice cream and I chose to give my experience a sad 6.5/10. My son gave his experience a 7/10 because of the weird taste and the wait. In summary, maybe if I hadn't had Ululani's on Hawai'i I might think this location was great, but because I know better I thought it was just ok. Sadly I don't think I'll be visiting this location again anytime soon (except maybe to get the Cali location t-shirt). They need a bit more time to get more efficient to handle the demand before I'd try it again here. And since I travel to Hawai'i frequently for work I'd rather wait to go back there for 10/10 than wait 2 hours for 6.5/10. read more

Let me start by saying I would have rated this location 3.5 stars. But can't so 4 stars it is... I'm basing this on my comparison of this location to my 5 start shave ice locations - Baltimore Snowball (no longer in business :-( ) and Ululani's in Waimānalo. Let's start with the positives: - Shave Ice texture - Perfect. 'Nuff said! - Syrups - are flavorful, lots of options, and they apply enough (no shave ice goes without syrup). Sometimes the workers may overdo it, but I'd rather have too much than not enough - Decor. good blend of SD and Hawaii and it immediately reminded me of the shop in Waimānalo Now the shortcomings: - Ice Cream. I appreciate that they use Lappert's Ice cream. It's good but it doesn't compare to Roselani's ice cream that is used at the Ululani's in Hawaii. Also, the amount of ice cream that they give you is miniscule. I'd appreciate a scoop of ice cream, not a dollop. - Service. The team preparing the shave ice orders were more interested in chatting each other up versus getting the orders to the customers. Mine arrived pretty quickly once they started working on it, but my wife's took forever and was already melting by the time I got it and so the liquid was overflowing out of the cup and making a mess. No bueno. Get the ice cream/shave ice ratio right and have the team working on orders be a little more diligent and then you're definitely in the 4+ star range. If you're wondering why I didn't rate it a 3. To me Kona Shave Ice is a 3. And this place is defnitely better than them. Also, went here on a sunday evening and the line was long but it moved relatively quickly. And was expecting this given my positive experience at the Ululani's in Waimānalo. On a Wednesday evening, line was out the door. Thank you for not cutting us off from the line ordering although it was close to closing (8pm). We arrived an hour before closing and as the line moved we were still not in the store. This establishment has brought a lot of people wanting to try their shave ice. Inside decor was nice, welcoming, clean, with a restroom available. We could see the care each staff member took from taking our order with good customer service, to putting care and attention to each shave ice order. They never lost their cool. I commend the staff and management for showing the Aloha spirit while creating a delicious product. Summer is going to be a treat with this establishment in the neighborhood. Maybe the lines will not be as long in the winter. Time will tell. Happy that there is great shave ice with the Aloha spirit in the South Bay! read more

We were super excited to try this spot based on some recommendations from family who frequent the Maui location. When we arrived the line was pretty long but I told my daughter that long lines mean that it's worth. We did wait 2 hours but it was definitely worth it. This place is in a category of its own for shaved ice, it's so fluffy and perfect and their flavors are so unique and delicious. They are made with real cane sugar so they don't taste overly sweet and gross. The ice cream was also delicious on the bottom and we tried vanilla and Mac nut. The inside of the shop is decorated well and has a solid island vibe. They were playing some mellow reggae and it seemed like the workers were all enjoying it. The cashier was super sweet and I even watched the owner handing out waters to those in line which was a good touch. I suggest if you do want to try this place out either come right at opening or maybe wait a few weeks to come as it just recently opened so it's pretty busy. But overall shave ice is nice and soft, we got a snow cap and vanilla ice cream with it which is so good! But the mochi is too soft in my opinion, I wish it was more chewy. Overall good shave ice spot but maybe wait till a month later to try it when it's not as busy unless you want to wait 2 hrs for this. TL;DR - Shave ice? Incredible. Vibes? Immaculate. Recommend? 10/10. This is truly the best shave ice I've ever had! Everyone working was so kind and helpful. I went opening weekend so there was a line out the door, so staff were handing out umbrellas for people to use while they waited in the areas in the sun, and they brought out menus and samples. It made the wait go by super quickly, and the shave ice was definitely worth it! I have been to a few of their Maui locations and was so excited to hear they were coming to San Diego! I live about 20-30 minutes away but plan to be back soon, it's worth the drive. I got vanilla, cotton candy, and watermelon, which in my opinion is an elite combo (no one seems to agree with that) but I think you should give it a shot! Amazing shaved ice! The service regardless of what others say is amazing and for the volume of people that are there nonstop from opening to close, you have to give the workers credit. They are working their butts off the entire time. Music and lighting make the ambiance a great experience. Again, the wait may be long, but look at it this way, when you go to a theme park and ride the newest roller coaster or go to the newest attraction that everybody is wanting to go to, guess what, you're gonna be waiting in line for that experience. Let me get straight to the point for those who don't want to read my long breakdown. This place is SO good and the service is immaculate. We went today for their grand opening and even with a long line and thunderstorms I have no complaints. Their team passed out waters and umbrellas and constantly checked on us and thanked us for being so patient. They handed out menus to us in line which helped give us something to look forward to. The owner I presume made everyone feel seen, going around and asking everyone if we knew what we were gonna get and thanking us for being patient as some of his team was still training. Now to the good stuff the ice melted in ur mouth from how fine it was and yet was so densely packed that it didn't melt in seconds. They poked holes in the shaved ice to get the flavoring dispersed and it was great. Even so when handed our order they made sure to tell us to let them know if it needed more syrup. I got the guava, passion fruit and coconut with macadamia nut ice cream and haupia cream. Let me tell you the flavors were SO good. They all tasted exactly like what they claimed to be without being sickly sweet and artificial. But the ice cream... game changing. Never have I had macadamia ice cream WITH macadamia nuts in it. I would definitely eat that by the tub. Next time I would definitely get only one flavor in my shaved ice just because I kept feeling like my tongue was going through a rollercoaster jumping from the light flavor of coconut and the bright passion fruit but regardless all three flavors were so good and I'd get any of them again. read more
