The New Orleans roll on the other band was good but would have been great without the flying fish roe. I've never had it before so it's partly my fault. They barely had flavor but it was a texture problem for me. They were a bobba consistency but crunchier. The "special sweet sauce" was good but definitely can be used as a side sauce instead of on the roll. Wahada is a Japanese restaurant that is located on Nicholson near Brightside. This restaurant is my go-to for good sushi and good food for a moderate price. You can get a bento box that is really filling for around 10 dollars. You can get a big plate of fried rice for 7 dollars. You can get some ramen or some other noodles for 7-10 dollars. I think the price for these specific items are pretty worth it for the quality of the food that you get. The service is really good as well. The waiter or waitress are usually really nice and accommodating. They would bring you the food relatively quickly, and they would refill your drink pretty quickly as well. They also have worked hard to make sure that the area is clear and that the customers are well and happy. The food is really good. I always enjoy it. The taste of everything is very well seasoned and very hearty. The ramen soup is hot and has a deep flavor to it. The fried rice always has the burn of the pan on it which gives it a umami taste. The sushi always tastes fresh and packs a nice taste with it. The ginger and wasabi is pretty fresh and adds even more flavor to the sushi. I think this sushi place does a lot to provide the customer with quality food at a decent price. I would definitely recommend coming here, but I might be biased as I go here a lot. read more

This evening I decided to try Wahada for the first time. I've lived 2 minutes from Wahada for 4 years now but I've never been brought to try it. I've heard mixed reviews, mostly good, but I always go for my regular places like Umami, Ichiban, Rock n Sake, which is why I've never tried. Let's just say I'm super glad I finally tried it! I ordered the Amanda Roll and the Salmon Avocado Roll. The Amanda Roll was huge and phenomenal. The Salmon Avocado Roll was delicious as well and pretty fresh and decently sized. Both rolls together were $21. That's a good deal when many special rolls from restaurants in BR are that alone or more. I love my regular sushi places, but this was cheap AND good! I ordered my sushi on the phone and it was ready within ten minutes and the worker was very friendly and it was a smooth process. I ordered take out and realized when I went in that it didn't seem like a place to sit down/that many people sit down to eat. There were tables, but it was dimly lit and completely empty. I don't even understand how this passes FDA standards. It looks like they just drizzled sauce over unseasoned chicken. It is so unsatisfactory. I've been eating at Wahada for the past 7 years so I figured I'd update my 2013 review. I eat here about once a week and typically get the same things: Vegetable tempura, veggie rolls, avocado rolls, and a custom sweet potato tempura roll (just ask and they'll make it!). My husband and I are both vegan and we love how accommodating the staff is. They make me a custom tempura fried sweet potato roll that is delicious. The prices are extremely reasonable - I almost took off a star because the dining area could be cleaner, but the price makes up for it. For 2 people eating an appetizer, 4 rolls, and a jug of hot sake- the price comes out to less than $30. read more

"WAHADA - it's to CRY for!!! After one taste, it will leave you with tears of joy!" Or so states Wahada's website. In any case, these boasts are a slight exaggeration. Wahada is actually a by-the-numbers Japanese and sushi restaurant that, despite its rather staid ambience and plain sea-blue decor, appears to be quite popular with the kids from nearby LSU. While Wahada is not bad, it's not really anything to get terribly excited about. It's pretty generic. The sushi was OK, but nothing to write home about. Compared to my favorite sushi places in New Orleans, I didn't think the freshness measured up, at least not on the Sunday evening we were there. (And yeah, maybe that's not the best night to get fish, anywhere...) The menu has the standard-issue rolls you see all over the place, and the choices of fish for nigiri and sashimi were somewhat limited. The sushi chefs' knife and assembly skills aren't a problem. Wahada is certainly not bad, and the prices are quite reasonable. Seaweed salad comes in a giant portion (one $4.95 order is probably enough for two), but it was strangely sweet. Beer selection is rather limited, too, but then that's the fault in part of Louisiana distributors, who at this late date still haven't fully gotten with the craft- and micro-brew program. Service was competent and friendly. All in all, a fair-to-middling sushi experience. I shouldn't complain too much, because my current landlocked town sucks for sushi, but then my expectations get raised for places closer to the coasts. read more

I was craving sushi and Wahada hit the spot! I came here twice in a week if that tells you anything. The first time I came with 5 people so we were able to order a lot of food. We started with the fried oysters, fried calamari (which was off menu but when we asked they were able to make it for us) and a shrimp tempura entree as an appetizer. The shrimp tenpura here is HUGE!! We got chicken and shrimp fried rice, rainbow roll sashimi deluxe, box sushi with salmon and salmon, a baked roll with scallops, another baked roll with shrimp tempura and crab meat, dynamite roll, crunchy roll, spider roll amongst some others. Everything was fresh and scrumptious. The prices were definitely way more affordable than anything I have in Houston. Next time that I go back to Baton Rouge I will definitely be visiting this establishment again. One modification that I made to my box sushi is that I asked them to add crunchies on top and that just put it wayyyyyy over the top and took it to a whole new level. Ugggghhhh such great sushi!! I am almost a regular here. I visit this restaurant at least 4 times in a month. This is my favorite visit thus far! My girlfriend and I just went around 5, and it was surprisingly empty for a Saturday night. We were promptly greeted by our waiter who took our drink order. My usual choice here is to start with a snow crab salad, then a Jerry Roll with Eel Nigiri. This time I decided to go a different route. My girlfriend ordered the snow crab salad while I ordered edamame (always a great choice!). She also ordered Kani Naruto and Salmon Sashimi as her meal while I went with the Sarah Roll, an Eel roll w/ avocado, a salmon avocado roll, and a smoked salmon sashimi. The food was SO delicious, it probably took less time for us to eat it than how fast it was prepared and served (The food came out very quickly! It seemed that there were more takeout orders than in-house tonight.). I recommend anything that Wahada has to offer.
