I normally do not write negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share our experience so that prospective students can make an informed decision. I was actually the one who encouraged my boyfriend to enroll in the UMass Teaching Credential and Master's program because of its flexibility. At the time, it seemed like a great option for a working adult who needed a program that could fit around life's responsibilities. Looking back, I feel awful because my recommendation led him into an experience that has been far more frustrating and stressful than either of us expected. The biggest issue has been the lack of communication and support. It often feels like no one knows exactly who is responsible for helping students. When you call for assistance, you are frequently told that someone will get back to you, but follow-up is inconsistent or never happens. Students are often passed from one person to another without receiving clear answers. The academic advising has been especially disappointing. There is very little guidance regarding schedules, program requirements, deadlines, student teaching, internships, and the steps students need to complete to stay on track. Advisors do not proactively communicate, send reminders, or help students navigate the process. Instead, students are often left to figure things out on their own. Unfortunately, the lack of support has had real consequences. My boyfriend became so frustrated with the process that he missed opportunities related to student teaching. He was not enrolled for a semester due to confusion and lack of guidance, and he is now struggling to secure an internship placement. These are critical parts of a credential program, and students should not have to navigate them without meaningful support. The student dashboard and website are also among the most difficult systems we have encountered. Finding important information can be confusing and time-consuming, which only adds to the frustration. What makes this experience even harder to understand is that I am also currently enrolled in a Master's program at California Baptist University. The difference is night and day. At CBU, faculty and staff are supportive, responsive, professional, and respectful. Advisors communicate regularly, provide reminders, answer questions promptly, and help students stay on track. My professors and program staff have even helped students find internship placements. There is a genuine commitment to student success. No university is perfect, and I understand that mistakes happen. However, students invest thousands of dollars, countless hours, and a tremendous amount of trust in their education. They deserve clear communication, guidance, and support. I recommended UMass because I believed it would provide those things. Instead, I have watched someone I care about become discouraged, frustrated, and delayed in reaching his professional goals. That is why I feel obligated to share this experience. I sincerely hope UMass improves its advising, communication, and student support services because students deserve much better than what we experienced. read more

Sadly I cannot recommend this school. My program was a Masters in Counseling with a PPS credential to be a school counselor. Silly me I thought a masters in counseling would count for something! The program only qualifies me to work as a school counselor and not continue on in any way to get licensed. This is the same as just doing the PPS credential program program without the masters! If I want to get licensed I have to do another masters in counseling. Which sucks because schools hire and prefer Licensed counselors. So I would have been better off doing the LPCC or MFT program instead of their B.S. made up "Masters in Counseling." The school says it's my fault because I chose the wrong progem. I say no it's your fault for making a program not have the proper amount of units to qualify as a masters in counseling. They say on their website if you want to do the PPS program you have to already be licensed as a therapist to do the credential program. So they are covering their ass and screwing over the select few of us that want to be school counselors from the start with no path to licensure. I have worked as a school counselor for four years now and while yes it allows me to work in schools it isn't helping me in the long run due to federal funding of education programs. School counseling is a dying profession now that schools hire licensed counselors. So this program is futile for my future. School counseling positions across the state are being cut and I am down 60,000 dollars and this school doesn't care that they did this to me. They just say spend more money on another masters. Which I can't take more loans out because I spent it all on your fake masters program!! I highly suggest not doing this program and not going to this school. read more

Worst decision you will ever make is spending a dime on this place. Honestly I can't believe what they do is legal. At 21 years old I dumped 11 grand, my entire savings account on what I thought was going to set me up for the future. I was assured by a woman named Marilyn, and a few others who's names I unfortunately don't recall, that this program was a quicker, more hands on and less expensive alternative to a 4 year degree. Their Cyber Security program is advertised both online and by academic recruiters as an alternative to a four year school and they will swear up and down that it qualifies you to get a job once you complete the program-that in fact, it's PREFERRED over a traditional degree in this industry. Completely predatory and wrong and I was told soon after completing this program that actually, there are no shortcuts and you DO need a real degree. Well, I was young and naive and they took advantage of that. The level of defeat I felt for YEARS because of this place is unacceptable. This experience with UMass Global has felt like a classic case of bait and switch. During the admissions process, I was assured that the MSW program offered flexible scheduling. I was extremely upfront about my situation: this is my second master's program, and I'm transitioning from teaching to becoming a school social worker. I clearly explained that I needed to complete my internship during the Fall and Spring terms since schools in my area are closed during the summer. UMass Global's admissions team was very convincing, emphasizing their flexibility and even highlighting how their programs attract military members due to their accommodating schedules and 8-week block terms. They assured me I could do my internships during the academic year and still graduate on time. However, after spending countless hours on the application process--paying fees, sending transcripts, and consulting with admissions and financial aid--I was informed much later, and only after pressing the issue, that I couldn't complete my internship outside of the summer term and still graduate on schedule. It's frustrating that I wasn't allowed to speak with an MSW advisor early in the application process. Instead, I only received clarity a month before classes were set to begin. This miscommunication wasted valuable time and effort on my part. I'd avoid this school unless you can have all questions answered by the program advising team before spending money and time on the application process. read more

The website says the self-paced MyPath program accepts CLEP exams as credit. But after spending the time and money to send the transcript, the academic coach said MyPath does not accept CLEP as credit. It's in their policy that they post online that they do!!! Does not seem legal.... read more

Beware! This school lied to me and told me before beginning Spring 1 2025 that they would transfer in 3 classes from my previous MS program. Towards the end of my 1st course, I get an email from my advisor that the classes were not approved. On top of that, I had to do all the footwork by researching what classes I previously took, and compare with classes in the MFT/PCC curriculum. The other colleges I've been to have a department who goes through previous courses to see if any will transfer. This came across very dishonest. The main faculty director gave a lame reasoning behind the dept. not accepting previous courses taken. As a school counselor, many of my classes are the same courses LPC's take. The BBS CA approves these same courses for School Counselors to bridge to LPC. The courses, I submitted for review, should've all transferred in. After going back and forth, I came to the conclusion they did not want to credit any of my previous courses for monetary purposes. I also read up on many of the new laws in place by the CA BBS, and as of 2022 students pursuing and obtaining LPCC license, are now able to treat couples and families without additional MFT courses here in CA. If you are a School Counselor looking into private practice or MFT/LPC Licensure, please stay far away from this dishonest money hungry school. They were trying to get me to take roughly 23 classes. Thank God, I transferred into a program that is willing to accept 7 previous courses from my MS in School Counseling. I'm already 35% finished with my program and I just started. This will save me time and $$. A true God send. Also, the first advisor that was assigned to me was lazy and knew nothing. He was unwilling to help. I had to request a new advisor, who was helpful and could not understand why the three classes I requested for transfer credit were not approved. One of the employees from the One-stop Dept was very helpful and kind to me as well. As stated in other reviews, classic "bait and switch". I would NOT recommend this program (MFT/LPCC dual license) to anyone. read more

UMass Global, definitely one of the worst schools I've ever attended. I absolutely DO NOT recommend. I emailed my academic advisor in October of 2023 asking her for an update regarding my courses. She NEVER replied. Comes January 2024 and I receive an email from her stating how I'm missing 1 class. Please ask me, how professional this sounds? I understand academic advisors get busy but THAT'S YOUR JOB! To answer student emails when it comes to their academics. To top it all off, this class was only offered from October to December meaning I had to wait 9 months to take this 1 class when I could have taken it when the email was first sent! I requested the school pay for the course as this was their fault it coming down to the academic advisor doing her ONE AND ONLY JOB but they refused to pay for it. If you're willing to work with people who do NOT CARE about your job status (I lost wages in my job due to this incident) then I recommend attending this school. Not only are they very unprofessional but very unsympathetic and only care about $$. A student's job, mental health nor their own employees not doing their job are important to them. read more

I have been calling and calling Brandman now umass because due to having to move out of state , I couldn't student teach in California but I did all of my coursework except student teaching. I got licensed in Arizona after doing a program here at Grand Canyon and I have taught for two years. My catalog year said 2 yrs teaching experience or student teaching. I got told I couldn't student teach in Arizona so I've waited 2 years and want my masters degree I'm paying on. But no one calls me back. I'm seriously thinking about filing a complaint with the department of education because no one will let me talk to the dean, certification, and no one will return my calls in counseling either. I was told before I got my license here that I can take more classes which was more $$ to get a degree. For a school that caters to veterans and military, moving happens. I was not going to be homeless to finish teaching which was what was recommended to me back in 2019. Seems like a diploma mill. read more

One of the worst schooling experiences I have ever gone through. I have somehow successfully finished my credential program (however, I thought I did) but they make it nearly impossible to obtain your recommendation for your credential after you take all the classes necessary, after you student teach for 4 months, and after you pass all of your tests. I have missed out on many job opportunities because of the professors' miscommunication about state requirements. They are money hungry and do not care about your education what so ever. I am currently in the Special Ed Teaching Credential program at it absolutely has been the worse education experience of my life. I was told I only needed 5 classes - THAT WAS A LIE. I was told they had an agreement with my school district - THAT WAS A LIE. I wish I could drop my classes, because I am paying out of pocket. I will probably never know how good or bad this school's professors are because of its One Stop. I still cannot believe how unprofessional the One Stop staff are. 1. The One Stop staff NEVER respond to emails. I will always need to call to follow up the issues with them. The problem is that the same people that I talked to might not be in the office everyday. I find myself in a situation where I need to repeat the same issue again and again to different One Stop staff. 2. Some of them are clueless. They simply tell me that they would forward the issues to somebody else, and then I never hear from them again. 3. I am paying for my education out of my pocket, and I am just not going to put up with this. 4. I honestly don't know how Brandman University's One Stop is run so badly. I received unprofessional service from Janna after informing her I was no longer interested in their school. She rushed off the phone with a, "no problem, bye" -click- hanging up in my face the first call. I had to set their number to "reject call" because they called 3 more times. After the 3rd call was rejected I called them and lo and behold, who answers? Janna. I tell her I keep receiving calls after I've expressed disinterest. Again she says "no problem, thank you, bye" -click- and hangs up again. So I call back because she didn't even ask for my name, so quick to hang up in someone's face, nincompoop! She answers with attitude and I told her she hung up on me without asking for my name. She says "yah, the file comes up when you call". Whoever is training these little kids to run big business ought to be ashamed. The disrespect and lack of professionalism is unacceptable. I'm glad I read the reviews before getting sucked into their charade. I chose Brandman University because it is WASC accredited, offers flexible classes and I was able to finish my coursework in half the time than at a typical Cal State or UC School. Of course, UC and Cal State schools are excellent too, but I found that Brandman's programs are comparable to what Cal State offers. I started Brandman at the Ontario, CA campus in July of 2013. I took two classes every eight weeks and in less than four weeks, I will be done with my coursework necessary to obtain my BA in Sociology. It took me a little less than two years and I transferred to Brandman with 70 credits. I think the instructors are fantastic. If anyone ever has a chance to take a class with Dr. Paul at the Ontario campus, E. George or M. Vitale, you will have a great experience. I also have a great academic advisor, Alan Dumke. All of the staff genuinely want the best for their students. I honestly can't think of one instructor that I didn't care for. Don't get me wrong...taking classes, working full time and raising children can lead you to burnout, but Brandman is a great choice for those who want to take on the responsibility of getting a higher education. I would say that 95% of the time, I finished my assignments and submitted them timely, but on the few occasions that family emergencies, personal sickness and work obligations prevented me from doing so, my professors were understanding and always allowed me to submit my assignments at a later time. They realize that life happens. I have found that most instructors are accommodating when you communicate with them. I never had a problem with the OneStop staff and always find that any emails I send to them, with questions concerning financial aid, are answered in less than 24 hours. It was so easy to finish at Brandman. All I had to do was apply for admission, get my financial aid, show up for class and complete the assignments. I didn't even have to register...Susan and Rebecca in the OneStop office did that for me when I asked. Brandman was really the best choice for me. I am pleased I made the decision to go back to school and I am glad that my co-worker, who got her degree at Chapman, recommended Brandman. It's basically Chapman for working adults and every California resident knows that you can't go wrong with Chapman. I plan on getting my MPA at Brandman. I really don't have anything bad to say about Brandman...and no....my glowing review does not mean I work here and am writing rave reviews undercover. I am just a very pleased student. By the way..this is not a diploma mill, as some other universities for working adults are. I earned my degree, fair and square and am proud that I have finally done so after almost fifteen years. The absolute WORST. All was well at Brandman (yes, I agree with everyone, OneStop is THE WORST and so unhelpful. Everyone I ever talked to there had no idea what they were doing). I was set up easily enough and my first few classes were mediocre, at best, but I was here to get a degree, so who cares. At some point during the year my financial aid changed and was no longer covering my classes. Was this anywhere online for me to see? No. Was I notified of this in any way by Brandman? No. But all of a sudden I have a $8,000 bill for a year and a half worth of schooling that was supposed to be covered by financial aid. Now, if I had known that Brandman had removed my financial aid I was now not being covered for classes don't you think I would have paused to figure something else out? And now they have a hold on my transcripts and I am unable to register anywhere else until I pay them because "I should have checked my Brandman email". Guess what, NOTHING in my Brandman email either. The people running the financial aid department are the worst and have no idea what is going on and are so unorganized. I should have been done with my degree two years ago but because of their lack of communication and refusal to work with you, I am unable to complete my degree. read more

Although I am halfway through my MBA program, I am not really satisfied with the professors and help I am receiving. The professor's are unprofessional and can take up to a week to respond to emails, even when assignments are due within a few days. When I asked my counselor, she provided me with the policy of "they are supposed to respond weekly" to emails...Makes sense when assignments are due almost daily and you cant get feedback for a week. Also, grades are generally delayed a few weeks online, so you can be almost complete with the class and have no idea where you are standing. Very little feedback is provided on the papers. You essentially teach yourself, which I am okay with, but when you ask for feedback and they just give you an answer, I wouldn't call that much of teaching. My "scholarship" (it's a corporate discount that my company has because they are partners with Brandman but they refer to it as a scholarship) changes quite often, and they usually don't get around to posting it until you are halfway through the class (which is like a month). More or less just frustrated with the school, sad to say I still have till the end of next year to deal with it as well. read more

Poor service and ignorant staff. For almost a year they have screwed up my financial aid. They lost or failed to process applications on line stating it was due to financial aid. MY FA package repeated screw ups they state were from a new system being implemented and should be fixed soon...1 year later. My intern eligibility was just postponed until late spring instead of now because my advisor gave me the wrong information. This resulted in my employment with a local school district to also be dropped. I filed a complaint with her supervisor at the Victorville campus. The supervisor stated that I must have had a communication error and she would discuss with the advisor and get back to me. This was two weeks ago. For the amount this costs there is no room for such poor customer service. This university is a complete disappointment. Do not attend here. read more

I was really impressed with some reviews on this school and decided to pursue my Masters in Healthcare with them. Chapman has a great reputation and so I thought that Brandman, being he online component of Chapman, would be excellent. I could not have been more wrong. The One-stop system is horrific. Thank you to Audrey the only person who even tried to be helpful. Most of the support staff sound uneducated so I don't know how they work for an academic institution. The academics may very well be good but I don't know because I never got that far. I give this place an F for unprofessional conduct. If the staff is any indication of the quality I wouldn't send my dog to school at Brandman. By the way, they have separated from Chapman. I wonder if Chapman gave them the boot? read more

I attended Brandman for 2 1/2 years and it changed my life. I loved my experience here at the Ontario campus as well as the staff and teachers. Due to the classes being not more than 15 students a class you are able to fully engage in the lesson and meet your classmates. I also appreciated how amazing the staff was here at Brandman Alan, Suzanne and Audrey made me feel like I had a team with me, my entire time here at Brandman. I called a lot, and had questions about my financial aid, classes, some errors with the system and even though at the time it was frustrating the staff always made sure to get back to me ASAP and we stayed in constant communication. As a student here you cannot allow yourself to fall off track and feel that you can let everything just work itself out. If you want a great experience here make sure you know whats going on, do not make room for surprises for yourself and that is with any school not just Brandman & because of that I was always aware of what was going on. All in all I graduated on time with my BA in Psychology, I had great teachers, classmates and a wonderful experience!!! read more

I read quite a few of the reviews for Brandman and I am surprised! I've had nothing but really pleasant experiences with this university. My counselor, Rebecca (in Irvine), is awesome! She is so supportive of me completing my undergrad degree in Organizational Leadership and helped me transfer my credits from OCC and other colleges (no issues). I've attended the Irvine campus since 2012 (I usually only take one class per semester because I work full-time) and have taken classes on campus and also online. I have only had a few minor issues (like maybe the link to the library was temporarily down). Nothing major! If you are the type of person that wants/needs a lot of feedback, an online class may not be the best option for you (as the professors tend to not be as engaged), however, if you have questions/concerns, they always get back to you (at least in my experience). I've never had to wait more than a day (which I think is fair)! The school is costly (that is true), but, many schools are these days. I like the flexibility Brandman offers, I was able to take a year off (and not have to re-register). When I knew I would be traveling a lot for work (or personal trips), I had the flexibility of taking an online class and/or skipping a term. I am very thankful for this college and that I, as a working adult, am able to finish my BA. I've learned a lot during my time at Brandman and have been using it in the "real world" since I started classes. read more

I cannot believe how unprofessional the administrative staff is for the Teaching Credential program. I only needed to take one single class to graduate, but Brandman cancelled it just before the term started. This lead to an un-necessary expense of over six thousand dollars to repeat seminars and observations over 2 terms. This delayed my graduation by 16 weeks. When I asked to enroll in classes from other universities to cover the cancelled class, the administrative staff refused to even answer my emails. I reached out the the chancellors office for guidance, and received no answer. I even followed up with another email asking enrolment questions- no answer. Unless you are willing to gamble with your money and time, I would find a different option for your education. read more

Brandman Cancelled classes for nursing RN-BSN Friday before classes start (8/30/2019 cancellation of classes, 09/03/2019 classes start). Then I received an email from DR Horz giving special privileges to 1 student named Michelle by accident. That student was going to receive 1 on 1 instruction, and special course. While I take a gamble to wait for spring 2020, when I was told I would start in May of 2019. Talk about BS. I bought my books and was ready for school, don't know if I can return them now. I bought them a month in advance! The Disney Aspire program was paying for this program 100%. read more

Can you imagine a group how a small group of diverse, thought leaders were able to start a program capable of creating tomorrow's leaders in business, education and government in Irvine, CA in 2012? Now, in 2015, the first group of graduates has completed the program. I am a very proud graduate of the Doctor of Education program at Brandman University. There are not enough good or kind words to say about the School of Education or the leadership of the university as a whole. It s not possible to change anyone or anything on the outside of ourselves until we change what is on the inside. The ability to implement long term, sustainable change depends on our ability to change on the inside first. Subsequently, we can begin to change the exterior. We study change and organizational leadership in the doctorate program. This program is delivered by high minded, caring professionals. The professors care for the students and want us to succeed. It is evident in their level of professionalism. When I find find myself upset at someone or something like a professor or a school, I find it is helpful ask, is there another way to look at this? In general, a glance on the inside first changes the world or at least the world view on the outside. As a Brandman University fan, I want to extend my sincere appreciation for the opportunity to achieve my lifelong dream of becoming a Doctor of Education. read more

Horrible school WASC needs to pull the accreditation from this University. They need to be under investigation. People are making fake Brandman Degrees online and selling them. The enrollment coaches are rude. I spoke to three coaches, Alyssa, Cameron, and Megan, all whom are very unprofessional and rude. Go to an accredited University because before you know it, Brandman might get there accreditation pulled. Heald and ITT got their accreditation pulled. Brandman will be next. Chapman University and Brandman are two separate entities. Don't invest into this school. They are fake and only want your money! read more

I received my BA from Brandman and I'm now getting my Masters. I love the school but mostly because of the professors. The professors are there for one reason, the students. I agree the front office mostly finical add, is awful. But then again if you are an adult and take care of your paperwork without someone holding your hand you're fine. You also get an enrollment coach and another coach for the first set of classes to make sure you're okay. It's a great school! read more

I wish there was zero stars, or even negative. Is that even possible? The biggest problem with this school is customer service. Let it be known that when you're signing up, that is the best (and only) customer service you will see. Once you have committed to the program, good luck on getting anything that resembles customer service. My story goes like this. I was baited. I wanted to sign up for a Masters in Public Administration. When I spoke to a councilor, I asked if my credits from CSUF in a related subject would count. Their response is most likely and that I would need to enroll before they made a final decision. Long story short, I enrolled, they didn't count any of the classes for anything. After I enrolled, I couldn't even get someone on the phone. I decided that I couldn't in good conscience write a check every session to this company, so I decided to quit their program. Just tried to get in touch with their career services office, in order to extend some job opportunities to students (because our office is across the street from Brandman), and was greeted with the most uninterested, unhelpful people I have heard from in a long time. In addition, their domain brandman.edu errors out to some ungraceful SharePoint diagnostic message. Is this a real university? I'm not impressed. read more

I do not like this school for several reasons: 1.) One Stop staff come and go. The turnover rate is quite high. Therefore, as expected, many of them are not familiar with the way things work. It's very frustrating to deal with them. Sigh. 2.) The professors are often part-time lecturers. As expected, some of them are not exactly familiar with the class format and course materials. If you can get federal aid, I guess this school would be OK (maybe). However, if you're paying out of pocket, seriously, there're public colleges out there that offer better options. Some students have withdrawn and transferred to other colleges. Sigh. read more

What is fascinating to me is that in its attempt to come across as though sincerely trying to help, do not be fooled. Look at the dates of the posted complaints and issues vs. the date of the Brandman "business owner" representatives' response. Some of the dates are a year apart! What makes Brandman admin. even remotely think that a public response to a complied posted over a year ago is a positive reflection of their organization, their administration or their business model? Really; this school was such a contender for me, but now, I'm back to looking. Thanks to those of you who courageously posted your issues.
