This is my first time here and I couldn't be more pleased. I had an ultrasound done and it was the best care I've had. The specialist was gentle and calm. She spoke clearly and answered any questions I had while attending to my needs and doing her job exceptionally well. Upon coming here, I always seem to smell something delicious. The cafeteria's mouth watering food travels through the halls! I'm so glad I found it and stopped in. I had a fantastic bacon cheese burger with fresh fries and I feel so overwhelmed with comfort and a full stomach. 5 stars for the hospital and 5 stars for James and his team in the cafe. Marlborough Hospital staff on first floor Geiger killed my husband. He got choked and I offered to do Heimlich but was told by the nurses that they would do suction. They could not find the suction tube for 5 minutes while my husband was choking! By the time they got the suction tube, they could not suction anything out. The next morning, I was told my husband's oxygen was very low and I should get there asap. My husband died from these incapable nurses. They should not be allowed to work! Beyond that, the security company they use (securitas) is a waste of money. Four loud men hanging out and talking very loudly about religion and "laying hands on women" , and the security staff are the first people you interact with at this hospital. I recant my 2012 review. I RECANT. They have fallen out of grace. In a ball of fire. Exploding and splattering all over the place... If it weren't for John in Triage, and Gabby at imaging, I would say this is a hospital that has to be put out to pasture. Which is a pity, as it used to be a top-notch hospital, back in the day when the (rest in peace) AMAZING Dr. Ernesto Jose roamed the hallways. ER's are no fun. End of story. And I LOVE NURSES! Except for the ones last night. WHAT AN INCOMPETENT, UNCARING, USELESS bunch of burned-out, understaffed and overworked people. Was everyone sour? No, of course not. But the wait, the dehydration mode they left my husband (the patient) and me (the chauffer/advocate), the abandonment with little to NO information (other than THANK GOODNESS, the virtual reports that showed up delivered on the back of a turtle waking up from a nap... sloooooooooooooooooooowwwwww). What poor, POOR, POOREST service (actually, WHAT SERVICE?). Stretchers of sick people all over the place, rotting away in depression waiting for that caring doctor or nurse to give them some hope of escaping alcatraz intact... I don't blame the flunky nurse. Whomever manages the hospital does not deserve their paycheck and should be doing a more honorable job like cleaning septic tanks - because how they manage a hospital is a bunch of crap. At least cleaning sewers and septic tanks, they will NOT depress others, just themselves for having such pitiful service providing activities. EMBARASSING. I thought your mother raised you better than that! Actually, lets send your MOM in, incognito, so that she is serviced as poorly as everyone else. I bet YOU will detest it. Please if you need a hospital stay away from all UMASS locations. They will target you, especially if they think you have no one, they will tag your medical record, mychart, and insurance with a DV tag even if it doesnt apply to you. They will infect you with diseases and parasites (in the name of science? Or maybe because they're just sick and twisted) not tell you and watch. They won't help you with anything unless you specifically say whats wrong with you. They will gaslight you and try to destroy you so you cant come forward or are seen as not credible. DO NOT GO TO UMASS! You wont be able to get care anywhere that accepts insurance after they put the tag on your record. Its happened to me and I'm finding more and more people its happening to. I went to the Marlborough Hospital emergency room because I was experiencing extreme dizziness while driving and thought it was a good idea to get off the road and be seen. I literally stumbled into the emergency room, dropped my pocketbook on the floor and was bent over holding onto a chair for a good solid minute or two directly in front of the triage window not one single person looked up and asked if I was OK if I needed a wheelchair There was literally nobody in the waiting room and I sat there for over an hour. Finally got up and said I was leaving and at this point you think somebody considering the fact that I was complaining of extreme dizziness would say that's not a good idea. We don't want you to drive instead. Their response was well that's your prerogative. I haven't been to this emergency room in 25 years. They were a joke then and they are a joke now. Left with the following... complaint: -Metabolic encephalopathy - Sepsis - Aspiration pneumonia - UTI - Dementia He presents today 1 day after discharge to SNF with altered mental status and has sepsis, right lower lobe pneumonia, UTI with Foley, acute hypoxic respiratory failure with pulse ox 89%, hypotension with low 86/40, positive COVID test (first known positive 8/15), metabolic encephalopathy and decubitus ulcer. From the woman who checked me in at the ER to the aide who wheeled me out of the hospital 6 days later all I can say are good things! Everyone was very professional and when I needed help someone was always there. The nurses and aides were all very friendly and helpful. Honestly, if I could give this place a zero star review, I would. From the second you walk into this hospital, you can feel the negative work culture. From the nurses that I encountered to the doctor, no one actually seemed to care or even have an understanding of what had been done, what had not been done, and what needed to be done. I spent some time here last week and, during that week, I have five star moments, three star moments, and one star moments. I'm going to highlight the highs and the lows. Highs: The folks in the radiology department are great. Friendly and helpful and went out of their way to do things for me outside of their jobs paramenters (like delivering a disc to my room or all my xrays, mris, and ctscans...). Five start for radiology. The food isn't that great, but, if you're admitted, you actually get some menu options. Getting to choose was a definitely plus. I avoided as much of the unhealthy crap as I could. The nursing staff, as a whole, were very capable and friendly. Also, I have stuck and prodded a LOT, yet there are no bruises or even little scabs from all the needles and IVs I had in my arms over my 3 days stint. (Special thanks to Ivelyn for helping me walk a little.) The accommodations didn't suck. No, it;s wasn't a five star hotel, but the rooms were cleans and the bathrooms were kept clean and every bad has a personal tv. Also, one the ER staff got to me, there are a couple of folks down there that were super attention and helpful (Esp Hector and Francis). Lows: The ER: While there were many nice helpful people in the ER once I got attention, it took 20 minutes for my to get any attention after I was brought in my ambulance. I know, because I counted. The counting kept be focusing on something other than the pain, however, pain killers would have been much for effective than counting. Although my attending was super nice, I only saw her twice, maybe three times and it was very clear that her goal wasn't to get me recovered, but, rather, to get me out of the hospital. Now, I realize the two aren't necessarily mutually exclusive but but I felt like the focus was in the wrong place. I didn't expect to stay in the hospital until I was completely pain free and recovered, but I was made to feel like the needs of the insurance company superseded my own needs. My roommate came to those same conclusion about my care, and felt bad for my situation. The sent a PT therapist to work with me. I was under the impression that there was actually going to be a bit of therapy to help me move better. but all the therapist did was asses that I could get out of of bed and into the bathroom (which was literally NEXT to my bed) by myself (and I was screaming and crying the whole way) and then recommended that this meant I was self sufficient and could be sent home alone. The therapist did not actually work with me in any way to see what hurt and what didn't and left me with the impression he would come back and help after the MRI. But never came back. Food: I gave kudos for the choices. But why are there so many processed high fact, high sugar, carby options on the menu? This might sound crazy, but... would it make some sense for a hospital to serve more HEALTHY meals? Nurses aids: Some were okay, one stood out as being really great but she was rarely one that helped in my room, and one, in particular, treated me as if I was a burden and a chore. Actually knocked over some of my stuff and then blamed me for it. And shouted told a Janitor not to help me and that she wouldn't help me when I was screaming for help because I did not pull the pull cord for help myself (a thing I did not do because I couldn't turn to reach it). I would like to make it clear that I am a PERSON, and not just some chore. And expect to be treated as such. If I could rate her services separately it would be a scathing review, and, even now, thinking back on it, I feel worthless and less than human. Even if you look at the hospital as a business and her job as just a job.. aren't I, in that scenario, the client? I cried three times while I was in the hospital, and all three times were because of how I was treated and not because of my pain (which was intense but I tended to bite that down as best I could, plus, tears didn't help with my muscle spasms so I had incentive to fight them). For the record, my roommate also cried twice over her own treatment, on separate occasions, but that is her experience and not mine. So you see, there were some shining moments with my care at Marlborough Hospital and some tarnished ones. Personally, I would recommend some sensitivity training. Is it possible I overreacted a little, I don't know, maybe, but I would argue that the staff should also know how to deal with folks who are hurt and feeling exposed and helpless, and, I don't know, maybe treat them more like fellow humans instead of troublesome chores. read more

My mom fell down the stairs and cut her head open. Blood everywhere. We took her to the ER and they kicked me out of because my 13-year-old son was with us and they have a "no kids" policy for "their protection." He was literally just standing there. Thankfully my brother was able to come to stay with my mom. The ER nurse was rude and annoying. That hospital sucks but it's the only option. Awful! read more

How do I put this without putting too much information out there. A family member had something very frightful and painful. UMass affiliated clinic recommended going to Marlborough ER. Arrived and after several hours waiting, had a second issue present itself which was more life threatening. Doctor essentially said it was no big deal and that there wasn't anything wrong. All the while, recorded incorrect notes about the incident and wrote down wrong medications. Wrong notes (no, the family member wasn't sleeping. They were having an f'n seizure). The incident lasted for about two hours. Staff thought nothing of it. Left after eight hours with a medical bill in the thousands of dollars for nothing. Primary care diagnosed the issue in a very short time and it is being taken care of, but we are never, EVER going back to this ER. Or any ER in the UMASS system. read more

I've been there twice. Once for day surgery, and once for the ER. It's definitely smaller than most hospitals, but both times I went there was literally not a single person I encountered who was not cheerful and attentive. Everyone seemed to know what they were doing, and I have experienced no complications. Obviously needing surgery or the ER is not a positive experience, but the staff at this hospital made both cases as pleasant as they could be. read more

I was very impressed by my experience today in the Day Surgery department. They were all very proactive about scheduling; I was determined to need this procedure only yesterday, and got it today! Wow! Everyone from check-in on was very friendly, informative, kind, and professional. I have to give a special shout-out to the nurses- many of them were nearing the end of emergency overtime shifts, and because of low staffing were not even able to get time to eat lunch! And yet, they were all engaged and dedicated, and also informative. I have accompanied my husband to day surgery a couple of times at other places, and while their staff was excellent, Marlboro Hospital staff went the extra yard. I will certainly speak positively about my experience in the Day Surgery, especially about their wonderful nurses and techs! read more

It's been over two years since I wrote my last review, and I'm genuinely saddened by the fact that they haven't even improved the slightest bit. The nurses in the ER are extremely rude and mock their patients. Extremely discriminating against those with mental illness, obsessive compulsive disorder especially. They all seem like they hate their jobs and I'm completely convinced of that after this visit. We asked when a psychiatrist would see us, and they told us that their psychiatrists "get their when they want", most likely between 9:00am and 12:00pm, and we still haven't seen one! It's already 2:00pm and we have been here, sitting on a cot in the hallway, since 11:00pm! Seriously? The lack of help for mental health here is embarrassing! If you want to be taken seriously, please do yourself a favor, do not go to this excuse of a hospital if you are mentally ill! Go anywhere but here! read more

Worst experience..sent here for covid test for my daughter..it was a shit show..after 45 min said i could not get her tested because no order was placed by her doctor..registration is extremely rude..after calls to her pediatrician and back and forth between whoever they having running the drive thru testing turns out there was no paper in their fax machine from the day before and sure enough the order came through once it was Replaced..no apologies nothing..a two hour experience of total unprofessional and incompetence... luckily this is not a hospital i would ever need to go to again only one doing salvia testing as Norwood is closed at the moment. read more

This hospital is quite literally the reason my healthy 58 year old father almost passed away. Developed a severe case of C Diff after a knee replacement. Simple monitoring could have prevented this. He was delirious from the day before he was discharged to the day I brought him back to this ER, as I was worried something was seriously wrong with him. They sent him home post-op while he was delirious, forgot to do a myriad of things they should have, and we not helpful at all when I called the hospital worried about his worsening condition while we were at home. He wound up in an ICU for 2 weeks and we're incredibly lucky he's still alive today. This whole ordeal could have been prevented with closer monitoring. See an older patient still not making sense even when their anesthesia should have worn off? Ask a family member if this is how they normally behave. If the family says "no", there's probably a problem. Simple as that. Honest to god. Just don't go here. read more

I am a severe asthmatic that was rushed here by ambulance yesterday. The whole staff of this hospital was stellar. I was having fainting spells which brought on my asthma attack. It was very scary to me, because I did not know what was going on beyond my asthma. Let me just say that from the first minute so last-minute I was here I was impressed with how the hospital was random. I have been admitted to many hospitals for my asthma and have never been treated so well. Here is a list of the characters that played a vital role in saving my life: Kim my RN. Totally on the ball on the whole floor. She was amazing with every single patient she was dealing with. She didn't even get to sit down and have lunch. Alessandro/Alex my assigned Doc. Many doctors delay you and brush you off and don't listen. I was impressed with his bedside manner, his attention to detail, and his complete understanding on what was going on with me and my symptoms. He took every precaution every measure to make sure that I was not seriously ill beyond my asthma. Thank you Doc. David Who I assumed was an orderly of sorts. He was basically my driver of my hospital bed since I was a fall risk. He was pleasant, he was funny, he entertained me when I was very pre-occupied and worried. Keep smiling David. Stephanie who was the administrative tech. She literally almost Peed her pants because she was trying to get me discharged quickly because she knew I'd had a long day in the hospital. I told her to go the bathroom, and she said no I'm just trying to get you out here. She was a very nice person and a good egg. Jenn another adminstrative tech. Chan was there from the beginning and the end. She literally cleaned up my blood, ripped off my EKG stickers, and help me put more guys on my bleeding or after the IV was taken out. She was sweet. Thanks Jenn. No it was a long day, and you were tired, and you were still very nice to me. David: Who took my chest x-rays. He was very professional, very thoughtful, And he seemed very good at his job. Thanks for giving me a clean bill of health on my chest x-rays David. Micah my catscan officianado. I honestly don't know what his official title was, but he explained the CAT scan process to me with kid gloves. He was very nice, he was very detail oriented, and he made me feel very at ease with something that was very scary to me. Thank you very much Micah. And thanks for telling me that I really didn't Pee my pants. Louise. Who I didn't talk to that much, but got to watch a lot in that it's 7 hours I was there. Louise didn't stop all day, she assisted all the nurses in their jobs. And she did it with a smile. Thank you Louise for continuously getting Kim for me when I needed her. I apologize if there's anyone on this life-saving roster that I forgot. I just wanted to give a shout out to all the peeps at this hospital. I have heard many people give this hospital a bad rap, and I completely disagree. I've never seen such hard-working people in my life. They save lives when they're tired themselves. I got bit by a cat. No big deal, right? Apparently it is a big deal and so I ended up in the Emergency Room late on a Sunday night after noticing my arm had turned a very nasty red. It took a while to get treated, but since I wasn't a high priority case that is about what I expected. The admitting staff was very professional and kind once they got to me. I waited a little while longer in the ER with my husband until a Doctor saw me. I honestly felt silly going to the ER with a cat bite. The lady next to me was clearly suffering much more, but I'll come back to that. Turns out a nasty infection had spread very quickly up my arm from the bites, she sank all 4 of her razor sharp teeth into my wrist, and I was lucky to come in when I did. I was put on a potent antibiotic drip while they prepped me for a trip to the x-Ray room. They got the x-Rays done very efficiently. Good news, I was going to hurt and be uncomfortable for awhile but permanent nerve or tissue damage wasn't likely. It had been very close though. They wanted to keep me overnight, but I refused and opted to stay put until the drip was empty and go home. They tried very hard to talk me out of this, but I asked for the waiver for liability and had my way. They did insist I come back the next day to do another round of antibiotics via the drip. I came back as promised and was set up after a short wait. It took what seemed like forever for a Doctor to see me. While I was waiting, a very kind older gentleman, who is a volunteer to help make patients comfortable, brought me a magazine to read and asked how I was feeling. He said he saw me the night before. He was with his wife in the next bed over...she had come in with abdominal pain and she found out she had cancer. Yet he was still there with a smile to comfort silly cat bite people like me. I just wanted to hug him. Other than the wait times, I have no complaints and felt well cared for in terms of treatment and how I was treated. On august 27 2014 by 3:00pm, I was in Marlboro Hospital, I brought a friend of mine victim of a motorcycle accident to MARLBORO HOSPITAL the woman on front desk ( light hair caucasian ) told him to seat and wait to be called and registered, after a few minutes I spoke to this attendant and "remind" her the possibilities and risks of someone who was involved in a motorcycle accident, brain bleeding, internal organ bleeding etc she clearly showed me SHE DOES NOT CARE and repeated the same sentence totally CARELESS. We had a Horrendous, Horrible, nightmarish experience there!! My husband was only 45 when he had a stroke. He had all the typical symptoms, so I frantically called for an ambulance. Upon arrival at Marlboro Umass, without even doing an exam yet the ER doctor said that he was probably "drunk" (even though I insisted that was not and assumption is crazy) and so they just left my husband at the nurses station on a gurney before they would even do any type of tests! As the hours passed I kept insisting that the only thing he had to drink that morning was his coffee (it was a Sunday at 9 a.m. and my husband has no history of drinking or of being a drunk)!! I continued to keep telling them that this is NOT how he acts, this is not him, he is not acting like himself, and PLEASE just do a CT scan or please just do something! So after FOUR hours of lying at the nurses station (no exaggeration - 4 hours), the doctor said he'll "humor me" and do the scan. Well wouldn't you know, when they returned, that doctor came to me all 'funny-faced' and said, "we need to life flight your husband to Mass General, he has a massive brain bleed. Oh, and it's a good thing you insisted we do a scan." It turned out that my husband DID have a stroke! And he had to have emergency brain surgery at MGH! He spent two weeks in the hospital, and two months at Whittier rehab learning how to walk and talk again!! I freaking hate Marlboro hospital and the entire UMass hospital systems! I found not one employee that really cares, they all seem like they hate their jobs, no bedside manner whatsoever, everyone there seems to be mad and sad. read more
