I've never bought a Suit before. Right when I walked in I was greeted and treated with the utmost respect. I came in at around 5:30PM. I needed a suit to fit by the next day 8AM. Umberto and his staff urgently got me fitted with a Wool 2 piece (tailored to fit), silk shirt, a tie, and hankie for only $1,900. In less than 2 hours I walked out with all of my problems solved. Mind you I have never bought a suit so I don't know if this is a good price, but considering the rush job i asked for, the great customer service, and a great looking suit I'm sure they could have gotten me for $3,000 if they were dishonest. Umberto's is a local institution, they've built a name in themselves in the community, and the service is good, the quality of their suits and dress shirts are top notch. The main thing is their pricing. I can't speak for how they might have been in years past, this is just what I observed in my recent visit. There are places in downtown Los Angeles that carry the same Mattarazi brand for about 1/4 of the price. Often times the fabric all comes from the same mill and the suits carry diffrent labels. Once upon a time everyone wore suits to work, every day. And back in those days there were men's stores that carried many sizes and styles. And they were numerous and nearby. Suits are now usually for only special occasions. I needed a new suit and had an upcoming event. I'd tried the large chains and found them lacking. Some large department stores still offer suits but the service is poor, tailoring leaves a lot to be desired, and selection is pitiful. I'd always wanted to try Umberto's and it was amazing. The prices are higher than you'd pay at a men's chain store but you get marvelous service, tremendous variety, and amazing service. Umberto himself was there to oversee the operation and David helped select the correct size and color, along with accessories. It was all then fitted and impeccably tailored. Spend your money elsewhere! Came here to get suits tailored for a wedding where we are the "padrinos". Umberto was warm and welcoming and chatted up a storm. Made us feel special and welcome while he marked up our suits to be custom tailored. When we went to check out we were shocked that tailoring of 2 suits would cost over $700. We were going to walk out but Umberto had made such a good impression and with 60 years of experience we were sure the custom tailoring would be perfect. We ultimately paid a bit over $500 and were told to come back in 2 weeks. When we came back to pick up nobody even remembered our names and that special feeling was no longer there. The tailoring was far from perfect. jacket didn't hang right (Umberto said it was perfect), one pair of pants was too tight one pair of pants was inches too long. No problem, they said they'd fix come back next week. All good. On the third visit, one suit was good and on the second the pants still didn't hang properly. They told me it was perfect. Showed the tailor the problem how one leg hung differently that the other. He said that his tailoring is perfect and that my body must be different between my two legs. Ok no problem so fix it. He asked me what I'd like him to do and I said you are the professional tailor what would you recommend? He raised his voice almost yelling and said I wouldn't do anything because my work is perfect. When he started yelling I grabbed my stuff and walked out. So now I'll attend a wedding wearing an oddly tailored suit from a "professional custom tailor." Don't get me wrong. The work was not horrible but horrible customer service and unwillingness to make it right. A place that charges $700+ to tailor 2 suits should have you walking out happy and feeling like you'll look like a million bucks at a wedding. Don't get drawn in to their European Tailor Experience and exorbitant prices because the work won't be done properly and they'll just tell you repeatedly that their work is perfect once they have your money. read more

I got a tux for my sons formal before COVID at some other very popular tux shop in Lakewood. Not even close in suit quality and fit. My son is 6' 180. A slim to athletic fit. And The tux my son was fitted for at Umberto's for his senior prom is WAY BeTTER that other one. For an important occasion like a prom, wedding or even a nice suit go to Umberto's. I recently bought a new suit from Hugo Boss, and although you can get free alterations from a Hugo Boss location, there aren't any close by places. I decided to get my suit and my old suit tailored here and boy was I surprised. I put on some covid weight and my old suit could no longer fit, hence the new suit. Upon arriving, I kind of felt like that john wick scene where he gets a new suit. I literally just stood there and they read my mind. They made it so my old suit fits perfectly now and just what I wanted the new suit to be a little bigger on the waist just in case. I've been to Umberto's a few times to have my suits tailored and they always do a great job with stitching & taking proper measurements. The turnaround time is a few days, fairly quickly! The prices for tailoring is a bit higher, but they don't take any shortcuts and you pay for the experience and expertise. I'm ok paying the extra, and supporting a local business that's been around for several years here in Long Beach. I used to go to Downtown LA fashion district on Los Angeles street & get my suits tailored there for less expensive, but if your from the area and Ok with paying a bit extra, this is the place to come. I definitely did not expect to have a King's Man experience in Long Beach today. A friend of mine recommended this location and when I first walked in I could see why- their selection was large and of high quality. Before I continue- let me say that my review isn't about their products at all, it's solely based on my poor experience last week. My future wife and I walked in and were greeted almost immediately. The woman who greeted us seemed a bit confused when I said I was looking for a suit for myself. (I'm pretty sure I'm not the first woman to request a suit) Then a man named David began to assist us. I mentioned that we were getting married early next year and I wanted a colorful suit for our brunch wedding. I also mentioned that I was looking for possibly something in blue and am not opposed to patterns. David asked to take a quick measurement since I didn't know my size in Men's formal wear. As soon as he got the measurement he grabbed two jackets ,1 light grey and 1 dark grey. He proceeded to set them down on the table, said they both would look good with brown shoes, and that he would order one of these for me. He rushed away to get a card to write down my contact info. My fiancé and I were perplexed because I hadn't tried on either of these jackets, they weren't anything like what I had asked for ( colorful/pattern/Sunday brunch vibes), and I never said I was wearing brown shoes. It was as if he completely ignored anything we had requested. In fact, my gal asked if she could see this one particular purple jacket that was hanging near him and his response was " Oh, you don't want that one" and then kept looking through the coats. As soon as I wrote down my name and number he shook my hand, said he'd call me within a day or two and then rushed out the door. I'm still unsure where he ran off to. My fiancé and I looked at each other in confusion. What had just happened? We were there no longer than 10 minutes total. The last time I checked it takes a lot longer than 10 minutes to pick out, try on, and get measurements for a suit. The man "helping" us seemed like he just wanted to sell a suit and be on with his day. This isn't the first suit shop I've visited on my journey for our big day. But it's the only one that left a poor taste in my mouth. Not once did anyone say "congratulations" or ask questions about the wedding in order to help us find options. I brought in a few pairs of brand new dress pants to be altered. The pants were marked and told to come back two weeks later. I did and went to try the pants on and couldn't even button them. They were supposed to be taken in about 1 1/2" to 2". They were taken in 4"! I was told we will make it right and come back in another two weeks. I did and the pants were let back out to the original size so they were too big again. I brought the pants in to be altered in April, it's now September and the pants still aren't wearable. They go from too big to too small and can't seem to mark them correctly. Also the length is now 1" above my shoes. I like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but this has been going on for over 4 months and I've gone in almost a dozen times. The last time I was told I'd be charged again if they needed to alter them again. I wouldn't suggest bringing anything here. I spent $100 a pair to have them altered and the pants are worthless at this point and need to be taken elsewhere to get properly fixed. Don't waste your time or money. Employees are super nice but otherwise stay away. read more
