I appreciate the assistance I've received each and every time I need to address the accounts of my minor grandchildren. ***I want to reiterate the 4 star rating is due to their app, it needs work, often when attempting to complete a 'remote deposit' the image is backwards/upside down/inverted, which means the user has to manipulate the actual check, turning it until the image is reflected as it should be, a true nuisance. I have personally never had these many issues with a banks app before. I had 5 loans , 25 000, with 4 different creditors, from 16 to 35% APR, totall monthly payment roughly 1200 ....Now I have a single payment of 533 d. whit 16% APR ( my credit score was 640) ... All the process was very fast and straightforward, in one day Blanca ( Burbank office) made all my paperwork and after one week I started getting zero balances in my accounts. My review isn't particularly about my banking needs because I'm not a UME customer. However, I admire what they do for the community whether they have an account or not. They participate in a lot of community activities like Holiday in the Park where they have a free portrait session with Mr & Mrs Santa Claus. You also get a free copy of pics but expect a long wait. I get a free salted caramel apple each year. No bank accounts required. Also during this occasion, they have Ferris wheel in their parking lot. Again, this is free to the public. They also hold movie nights. At this moment that I'm writing this review, they're having a New Year celebration. They questioned my docs I submitted and said it is questionable then questioned the business location saying its suspicious, they cannot see it on google maps. We've been with Ume for years, but I have done the majority of my banking with TD Bank because it's directly linked to TD Canada Trust. The main problem I have with TD Bank is that there are no branches in California, so everything I do is online. This is fine for bill payments and Venmo but when it came time to secure a loan, they couldn't help me because I live in California. I needed a loan for my car, so I went to Ume and Robert Lopez offered me an incredible rate as well as great terms. I can't believe I was even considering TD Bank. Robert took the time to walk me through all of the options (including a HELOC) and I was so impressed, I opened a NEW checking and savings account and will be transferring my assets from TD Bank to Ume over the next few months. If you want exemplary customer service and great rates, Ume Credit Union is the place to go. I feel like I'm more than just a username and password. I feel like the team at Ume Credit Union has my back. Case in point when I was transferring money over from TD, they called me to confirm the account and transfer and then immediately wired the money. This review is specifically for the HELOC loans offered at UMe. I received excellent service from their banker; highly responsive and informative. However, their appraisal process was terribly inadequate. I paid several hundred to have an appraiser from Santa Clarita appraise my home for less than what I paid for in 2021. I was completely appalled. I countered the appraisal and they increased it by 20K. Absolutely pathetic; I'm in Highland Park. It's shameful that UMe only works with one appraiser and they're completely unaware of the Los Angeles real estate market. The next week I began working with another credit union that offered an even better promotion. They appraised my home at 200K+ more than UMe and their appraiser was more affordable. I was over the moon! Unless they get a better appraiser, I would NEVER recommend UMe to anyone looking for a HELOC, especially if you had to overpay to get into the extremely competitive market of Los Angeles. This is one of the hottest markets in the country and it's exasperating when anyone associated with a lender is beyond uninformed. read more

I opened my account last year and it's been nothing but headache after headache after headache!!! I rely on Zelle a lot since March of 2020. I pay my rent this way among other things and found out the hard way that UMe has a $750/day limit with a $500 limit per transaction. So to pay my rent I would need to make over half a dozen transactions over the course of a week just to pay my rent in full and not be able to use zelle on anything else after that for that week since I would be capped. $500+$250 and then the next day...$500+$250 and then the next day... $500+$250 and then the next day...$500+$250 etc. An inconvenience I should have been informed of when opening my account but I let it slide. Then I go to use Cash App to transfer money since that shouldn't have any sort of limit and they flag it as fraud and block my account! I try to pay a credit card - DENIED I try it again - DENIED I try to buy food - DENIED I try to pump gas - DENIED I try to transfer money to myself via Cash App - DENIED Then my information becomes allegedly, potentially, compromised so they completely lock me out of my account along with countless other members and the ATM kept my card when I tried pulling money at UMe leaving me stranded with no way to access my funds to feed my kids, pump gas, buy food for my dogs, etc! They just marked my card as LOST without notice! Ok, it happened once, shouldn't happen again, right? They should find a better solution that doesn't greatly inconvenience their members, correct? WRONG! Like a fooI, I deposit money in my account yesterday and the second that I go to use it they mark it as fraud, AGAIN! BLOCK MY CARD AND AGAIN I AM LEFT STRANDED WITH ZERO ACCESS TO MY MONEY! Because God forbid you want to use YOUR OWN MONEY!!! I couldn't even zelle it. UMe,"Hey this guy has money in his account and wants to use it.... MUST BE FRAUD!!! BLOCK HIS CARD AND FORGET ABOUT HIM UNTIL WE WAKE UP THE NEXT DAY AND MAKE IT IN TO WORK" I will be taking my business back to BofA down the street. If you love limits, denied transactions, getting locked out of your account multiple times without notice, absolutely zero access to your money and adore being inconvenienced - this is the place for you! read more

What a disaster of a bank. Use CashApp? You're clearly committing fraud. A FinTech app owned by Block Inc, a publicly traded U.S. company with a $42.99B valuation. A company that provides key infrastructure to most small businesses in America... An app that lets customers pay taxes with no added fees, invest in stocks, earn high yield interest on an FDIC insured account, etc... clearly FRAUD (there is major sarcasm there). So let's set the above aside and discuss other interesting things about this bank... If you open their banking app "too many times" that is both tracked and considered suspicious. Why would someone open an app multiple times during the first days of having their account? Well for starters, getting account and routing numbers to add to external bill accounts. Also, they claim to be tech-forward, the app is admittedly slick, and some of us like exploring UI. Being told I was "opening the app too much" is laughable. I can all but assure you, "Growth Marketing" teams at next generation banks would kill for high usage app statistics... stickiness, retention, etc. NEXT - apparently turning on their Bill Pay feature is a big red flag.. or so I was told. Even though I'm not sure why anyone would use it vs. adding account info on the external sites for bill processing... it's an offered feature and I was curious what it was, turned it on and was told that was "suspicious"... that's right, this bank thinks showing interest in PAYING BILLs is suspicious. I could go on and on about the condescending attitude I got ("you changed your phone number!" .. "did I? what did I change it from?" "oh never mind you didn't do that") ... regardless of being treated in such a rude manner, I tried to be respectful and answer questions (all met with a dismissive attitude, borderline sociopathic in tone). Ultimately they locked me out of account completely, with really no firm timeline or resolution process detailed. I was testing the bank to see how a smaller traditional bank would function in the current economy (which is rapidly moving toward my use-cases above... digital usage/digital currency/fintech reliance), and my advice to any younger person who uses FinTech apps like CashApp, uses tech a bit more aggressively (ex: opening apps a lot and testing features), has any interest in doing business with Coinbase, Kraken, etc (any regulated Crypto businesses), just AVOID this bank. I mean really if you want to be treated with respect, you can ignore everything above and just take this TL;DR... this is a bank that doesn't respect you, and doesn't understand the world we live in. read more

Terrible wait times and slow for no reason. This is the second time this has happened. I was told a credit card would take 5 minutes to make. I got here at 4:30, checked in, and waited 35 minutes. When I was finally called, I assumed the card was ready. But this was just to collect my information in order to make the card. What was happening during the 35 minutes I was waiting? This was after I had already stopped by just a few hours before for the card but was told their card machine wasn't working. I asked if they could make the card and I pick it up when it's ready, no that's not an option you have to be there in person or wait 7-10 days for them to mail it to you. I'm just wondering why it took 40+ minutes to make a card I was told would take 5 minutes. This also happened with my debit card. After waiting 40 minutes, I was then told it would be another 10 minutes. I ended up leaving without the card. Very inconvenient and inconsiderate of other people's time. read more

I opened my first account at UMe 50 years ago (when it was BFCU). I really liked the bank, the location is good, they always matched the CD interest rate of other banks (they no longer do this), and I got good service. Well, all that has changed. A few weeks ago, I needed to send an international wire transfer. I had researched several sites and had a pretty good idea of how much it would be in US dollars. I was told that the wire transfer would be $45 with NO other fees. But they could not give me any idea of what the conversion rate would be. I get that, the rate changes constantly, but only by a few dollars. Well, guess what. When I got the email notification of the wire transfer, UMe charged $500 above all the other sites I had been checking on throughout the week, and also on that particular day. I called the bank, and spoke to both a supervisor and a manager. Their response was basically a shoulder shrug and "oh well, the rates change all the time". NOT BY $500! I told them both that I wanted to know how the bank was going to take care of this. The supervisor finally said that the CFO would contact me. I never heard from anyone, other than to get a form letter from the supervisor stating the ridiculously high conversion rate they charged me. I have a CD maturing in 2 weeks and at that time I will be taking all of my money out of this bank. There are plenty of credit unions in Burbank that want my business. I don't understand how this credit union has so many likes. Like most things in Burbank this bank is catered to people that are very well off. If you're a regular person, there is not much this bank will do for you. You cannot make a debit purchase of more than $500 per day, the bank is closed on Saturday, and just recently their customer information was compromised. My debit number was stolen and used by someone in another county. I had to wait over 10 days to get a replacement card since the bank is closed on Saturday. Everything is a struggle. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! read more

Honestly kinda of yes or no. Because when getting a loan is good ,the other etc things they offer is NO. IT took them 3 or 4 weeks to find me a car at the end I found it myself. Reason I am UNHAPPY WITH them is because I had a few hundred $$$ just because no activity I was told the acct will be closing unless I fill out a form. Which I did waited 4 days then nobody knows anything . I get a call from B LADY claiming she doesn't know anything about the acct and the money will be going to the state, I ask her why no activity. Ok I filled out a form well the to whom well I don't see anything according to her . UNTILL I GAVE THEN MY PIECE OF MIND, THEY decided to mail me a ck.
