First off, I came during the highschool lunch rush, yet my food didn't take that long to get to me, which is pretty cool considering how busy it was. It's crazy how the mood of the place changed so quickly in the span of 15 - 20 minutes after the highschool students left. I loved it! It went from being chaotic, hip, and loud to a chill, laid back environment with good music. It's the best of both worlds in one sitting. I had the Chef's special: cranberry goat cheese salad. It was HUGE and filling. Great fresh ingredients. The candied walnuts are delectable. They put on just enough vinegrette to be flavorful without drenching the salad. It was a good balance. I always hate it when all the tasty tidbits of a salad get eaten up with the first few bites, and that did NOT happen! I still had cranberries, goat cheese, and walnuts at my very last bite. I also had a teryaki chicken skewer. I loved the sesame flavor. It was unexpected (even though it's sprinkled with sesame seeds, my taste buds were still surprised) and delicious. I love how the teryaki sauce was a carmelized glaze over the chicken. Yum! It also came with spicy cucumbers. They are briny (they're pickled but not a pickle, if that makes sense) and spicy. If you are high risk for Covid DO NOT COME HERE. I don't typically post negative reviews- in fact, I think this is my first. But here we go... I watched an employee who was only wearing their mask to barely cover their mouth (nose exposed) wipe her nose with her bare hand, and then proceed to grab raw salad greens with the same hand and put it into a to-go container, without washing her hands once. Normally this would be a "whatever," situation, but we are in a global pandemic and I'm fairly certain this person this was a manager of some type. I immediately tossed the food upon receiving it because giving it to a homeless person would have been cruel, and eating it myself would have posed a huge health risk. I am completely disgusted and never eating here again, which is a shame because the food itself is generally pretty great. read more

Ume is still good and crave-able sometimes but they've changed some things for the worse, and I'm not smitten in love like I was previously. It's no longer a good place to sit and eat, but take out is good. It's super cold and the music is loud and obnoxious. I was looking forward to sipping a hot tea, but there's no hot or bubble tea options any more. the udon has a much sweeter and pepperier tasting than it used to be, which is not my favorite. The odd menu faux pas we accidentally stumbled on was the "tuna furikake plate" is actually TUNA SALAD, like mayonnaise and canned tuna. That was a super unpleasant surprise! read more

5 stars! The kimchee bacon fried rice was perfect. Salty, spicy fried rice with some smokiness from the bacon. The miso butter salmon was delicate and subtle served with a colorful salad with boiled egg and a delicious dressing. I'd come back to try the rice balls and grilled yakitori..... soon! read more

Delicious! I got a Brussels sprouts skewer, spicy pork onigiri, chicken and veg potstickers, chicken yakisoba, and sesame balls. Delivery was quick and everything tasted so good. The Brussels were small, but made up in flavor. The onigir was supposed to be spicy, but it was more like a spiced BBQ, and that was my preference anyway. Potstickers had a really nice sear, tasty filling, and good dipping sauce. The red bean filling in the sesame balls was just a delight. And the chicken yakisoba, which I had the next day, reheated like a charm. Wish I'd know about this place prior to the lockdown! I'll definitely go there once the restrictions are lifted! I've been meaning to try this place for years, and I finally did tonight. I ordered a teriyaki chicken plate and miso soup, my partner got two different skewers and a side of rice, and we split an order of sesame balls. The food was really tasty. And it was all so fresh--no stale oil taste or watery soup or overcooked rice, or wilted vegetables! I also appreciated variety of the veggies in the salad, and I loved the pickled cukes. We placed a to-go on a random weekday night and our food was ready very quickly and it was easy to pop in and grab it. The portions and prices are both really reasonable. Ume grill used to be an amazing place for well made food. They've been slowly cutting corners for about 6 months, and the quality has suffered greatly. The chicken teriyaki plate I got today was the final straw. Jelly like sauce, poorly cooked rubbery chicken and a salad that just didn't taste good. I am obsessed with their teriyaki chicken plate that comes with rice and salad. That tahini sauce they provide is so damn good. I have visited this location several times and without doubt its always have been a wonderful experience. The server's and chef's are super nice and friendly and it takes around 10-15 mins to get the food out. You can see how they are prepping your meal and take comfort in knowing its prepared in a hygienic place. Teriyaki chicken is just delicious and I keep coming back for this same dish. I have used take out and ate at the restaurant as well, and its been great either ways. The ambience of the restaurant is good and pretty chill. There is limited parking space though. Definitely recommend this location over other ones. The price for the amount of food offered is a definite steal :) read more

We called in for a delivery order during the COVID stay home order, because their website said free delivery if over $40. The person that took our order and address, when asking about a receipt to be text to me, did not take our phone number down when I offered it, apparently my contact info is saved with my card information in their point of sale system, because I automatically received the receipt. They said it would be 40 minutes. We gave it over an hour before we called to check on our food, and that was when we found out that they couldn't deliver out to us (River Road area). And since they didn't take our number down, they couldn't call us to let us know we'd have to pick it up. So we drove down to pick it up, meaning our food had been sitting ready for almost an hour. They were very apologetic and refunded us. But I can't believe we are the only ones that had this issue. Delivery zone should have been stated on the website, aside from not checking the address before we ordered and also keeping a contact number for each order. Aside from this issue, we did try the food we ordered: spicy pork skewer, fried brussel sprouts, ahi avocado sushi burrito, teriyaki chicken plate and chicken yakisoba and pot stickers. I felt that most of these dishes were fairly bland. They were healthy servings, and the best one I felt was the sushi burrito. It's an interesting mix, I'd call it fusion. So on the food side, it was middle of the road. But the experience was disappointing. We understand that everything is funky now and businesses are trying these new things but I was bummed that this wasn't a better first impression. read more

We've loved Ume since they opened their first food cart however the Pearl St location has been super inconsistent with their quality especially over the last year. Sometimes the onigiri is barely grilled so the yummy miso glaze just runs thru without getting a chance to get "glazy" and sometimes they're way overgrilled. Sometimes they dump wayyyy too much furikake on the top and sometimes there is the teeniest pinch. If they could get a streamlined way of grilling and garnishing I'd give it 4 stars. The cart on 24th is always pretty consistent and bonus; the crew there is really friendly. read more

Great service and QUICK. I was "that" customer who shows up at 4:30 with 9 to-go orders and had to be somewhere by 5pm....they made it happen without skipping a beat. I still love this place- it's close to a lot of cool stores and they have great food and customer service, they've even added some dishes since they opened!- but I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in my most recent experience. The size of the sushi burritos has decreased drastically, which is something that doesn't seem to be just a fluke. They've also increased in price. They're still tasty, though. The truly disappointing part of my experience today was that the skewers I ordered- my beloved favorite brussels sprouts skewers- tasted like tragedy on a stick. They were mushy, wilted, shrunken... The outside-normally so crispy and cooked to perfection- felt like tissue paper between my teeth. I'm just really sad that I spent time, effort, and $3.50 on what is essentially just some compost. We ordered this on a whim from GrubHub. It was phenomenal. Some of the best food we've had in a while. We ordered 4 types of skewers: Thai peanut, teriyaki, Brussels sprouts, and spicy pork. My boyfriend got the Spicy Pork plate (and he wouldn't stop talking about how good it was). I got the beef bulgolgi tacos (AMAZING). Highly recommend. read more

The food is really yummy. Large portions good for two servings easy. The salad mix they give is actually delicious and not half assed. The only "criticism" I have is that the bulgogi is super sweet and Americanized. Still very yummy tho. The skewers were juicy and very well flavored, and the Katsu was quite yum. Ordered via door dash. Ordered a variety of the skewers. I Got peanut chicken, Indian curry chicken, and spicy pork skewers. They are $3.99 each which a bit pricey but they all came in cardboard containers instead of awful styrofoam so the higher cost worth it. Meat skewers get 5 stars for being seasoned well, tender and a full skewer. Very tasty and the spicy pork definitely has a kick. Enjoyed very much. I also got sides of terriaki edamame and pot stickers. Terriaki Edamame gets 3 stars (not much terriaki flavor) but the whole roasted garlic mixed in with pods was good. Soybean was tender. Then potstickers. I wish I could give those zero stars. They are same manufactured ones I buy in freezer section. The meat skewers shined so gave 4 stars overall. This was a Togo order...They only give you one skewer per item ordered even though the menu says "skewers" as if you get more then one but you don't. The meats were over cooked not impressive at all for a restaurant. The yakisoba noodles were vile and smelled and taste of char like something had burnt and they decided to serve and sell the plate anyways. I don't like to give bad reviews but I just can't even believe... I was looking forward to eating here. Inedible food my friend and I couldn't eat any of it. She was visibly bored and/or disgruntled with having to interact with us. It was highly uncomfortable and downright distracting! Personally their teriyaki is not especially to my liking as I like it with more char - others may find theirs perfect. Service is excellent. Quite frankly, a negative experience. With the rude greetings as soon as we walked in, to the incompetent staff, and overall overrated food. When our food was done being prepared the cook proceeded to yell at us to come grab the food. Then a server who eventually grabbed our food and dropped it off, rudely said "you should probably go grab utensils". After she said that, she proceeded to go and hangout with her boyfriend, who was also in the restaurant. Let alone, the other server was also with her boyfriend it seemed, hugging and talking at the cash register. Making us feel very unconformable and unwelcome .
